SHERLOCK HOLMES (1984-1994) ♦︎ 40th Anniversary ♦︎
“To me, the Sherlock Holmes stories are about a great friendship. The two men are interdependent; without Watson, Holmes might well have burnt out on cocaine long ago. And Watson leads a pretty dull life, enlivened only by his adventures with Holmes. I hope the series shows how important friendship is.” – Jeremy Brett

For those who have never seen Jeremy Brett's depiction of Sherlock Holmes, the entire collection of his Sherlock Holmes episodes / movies (from 1984-1994) is available to watch for free on Youtube.
I highly recommend watching these if you are a fan of the original Sir. Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes stories. These are (in my opinion) the most faithful retellings and they are very well-acted.

Sherlock Holmes // Jeremy Brett Study - based on the scene from the series. "Sherlock Holmes was a series of adaptations of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories which were produced by Granada Television and originally broadcast by ITV in the United Kingdom in 1984–1994. The series starred Jeremy Brett as Holmes and David Burke (in the Adventures series) and later Edward Hardwicke as Dr. Watson." - wiki See - not Hellraiser! Just because that comment other day. :) 1980s fandoms are still alive, even when hidden from fancy popularity algorithms. I do at times feel a bit isolated here, not sure where to look and am always glad to hear about other fans of things that make me smile.

COMING SOON: Reviews of the Granada TV Sherlock Holmes series!
Tumblr media
In 2021, I've decided to attempt an extended series, more ambitions than anything else I've done on Baker Street Babble. I'm going to try reviewing the entire Granada TV Sherlock Holmes series, one review per week. I shall discuss the quality of each episode and how each one compares to the story upon which it was based. Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Holmes has always been close to my heart, as it was the first adaptation I watched as a teenager who had recently discovered the Sherlock Holmes stories. As much as I have enjoyed other portrayals of Holmes over the years (Benedict Cumberbatch, Jonny Lee Miller, Basil Rathbone, Peter Cushing, to name a few), I still find Brett's portrayal to be the most faithful to Arthur Conan Doyle's writing.
My intention is to begin this series of reviews on Saturday, January 2. There are 41 episodes in the Granada series, which aired from 1984 through 1994. The series was broadcast in four distinct series, as follows:
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984–1985)
The Return of Sherlock Holmes (1986–1988)
The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes (1991–1993)
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1994)
(For a complete list of episodes, the Wikipedia article on the subject is a helpful resource.)
Even though I have been a fan of the Granada series for quite some time, I don't believe I have ever gotten around to watching every single episode, so this should be an interesting experience. I look forward to sharing my thoughts on the series here.
The game, as always, is afoot!

The 100 Favorite Movies Challege
As a huge movie buff, I thought I'd try something fun on here. I have decided to launch a new internet challenge: "The 100 Favorite Movies Challenge". The rules are pretty simple and straight forward. You create a list of 100 of your personal favorite movies in alphabetical order, post the list on your home page, then nominate other people/users of your choosing to do the challenge.
There is no limit to what movies can be included on your list. Films within any medium (live action or animated), genre, and decade are more than welcome. Whether it's longtime favorites you were introduced to when you were younger, favorites that you've picked up over the years, or recent discoveries or releases that quickly became your favorites, anything and everything is on the table here.
I'll start off by sharing my list. To be clear, I have way more than 100 favorite movies, but to have the number be anything past that may be a bit much for some people. Please don't judge me if it seems like there might be a few noteworthy titles missing on here. I mainly put this list together just for fun. Alright, here we go!
