Concerning that last ask asking about if there were any snakes in nature that had colors like the nonbinary or trans flag, that Trans Pecos Rat Snake you used as an example has absolutely no thoughts in its head. It just looks like all that there is going on up there is the mii channel theme. XD
I'm delighted to let you know that Trans Pecos rats just Look Like That. All the time. Always. Every single one.

When my own Trans Pecos ratsnake, Stede, was a baby he was a bit pissy (he grew out of that fast) and it was absolutely hilarious because he was like "hey! Don't you trifle me! I'll bite you, I mean it!"
But he looked exactly like this
Tumblr media
Absolutely zero difference between these pictures

Trans Pecos rats are great, they're sweethearts and such curious, goofy little snakes. Stede makes me laugh every single day.

3 and 62, for your wip hc
3!
So this was inspired through a conversation with my friend and a prompt and of course its S & S!
So its very much similar to many of my other fics 😂.
But 5 headcanons:
It starts normally and one night at Barton Park before October, someone feels them being observes and makes a funny face when no one is paying attention.
It becomes a way to say much without words as the story goes on.
Lies happen because everyone's hearts are engaged elsewhere or so they assume
Sisterly matchmaking happens when it becomes known there are returned affections.
Mrs Jennings gets the props she deserves! As she should!
62!
So 62 is not a fic, or really it has a little drabble attached to it but I digress, it is a drawing that I drew/colored myself but it does have a story attached to it.
Here
My bestie @lesbians-love-samwilson loves Taylor Swift and she likes Medusa though Persephone is her favorite.
Anyway so I decided as a belated birthday gift and a Christmas gift to draw Taylor Swift as Medusa and the result I'm really fucking pleased with it!
So 5 facts:
The snakes are all Nonvenomous: Hognose (Diggs using its nose), Ball Python (selective breeding for the color), Reticulated Python (ambush predetor) & Trans Pecos Rat Snake (Breeding season is May and June)
The background is composed of lyrics from her past 6ish albums: 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore & Midnights. Some of them from songs that I recall that my friend and I have talked about.
I decided midway with coloring to make her have more snake like qualities (fangs & hognose snout), the dress faintly has a texture on it to mimic scales but uploaded the wrong file, but it works lol
I had fun trying to figure out how to combine the two.
There are different sources that I used to create it not including the lyrics: here, here, here, plus the color palette.
5 headcanons:
Taylor was a young woman from a prominent family but she fell in love with the wrong guy
For her wrong chose slowly she starts turning into a Gorgon.
Her hands became rougher than usual (but that makes it easier to play the harp),her eyes started to lose color definition before they changed shape. Her teeth started to fall out but new ones came in but they retract! Her diet became more snake like though she tried to hide it. Her nose flatten but it still has the cuve it used to have.
She can turn people to stone and boy that really changed "I've got a blank space baby" because there might be a "long list of ex lovers" hidden in a room on the grounds.
She is very lonely but music as always is something she loves, almost as much as she came to love her new self.

(Loss of a pet)
Now that I know I have narcolepsy, perhaps I can finally forgive myself.
I had a beautiful Trans Pecos rat snake named Momo. He was my pride and joy. If you think it's impossible to truly love a snake, you're wrong. He was my baby boy.
And that's why it happened. Because I loved him so much, I took him out of his enclosure while I was sleep walking. I remember very briefly standing at the sink with him in my hands. Why though? What did I think I was doing?
That's all I could remember. It was like a dream. I don't remember taking him out, or letting him go. But that's what I did in my sleep. I could never explain why. My subconscious mind took me to him. I'm so sorry I didn't do better, Momo. If I had known I was sleep walking, I would have put a key lock on the enclosure instead of a latch. I would have had ten steps to get to the key. Fucking narcolepsy.

I am now addicted to hearing about your sillies, what’s the goofiest reaction a snake has ever had to food it didn’t like?
Ooh, what a fun question!
I've talked about Bentley the boa constrictor's pickiness on here before, he's hilarious. Something about the smell of quail makes him so upset. He has literally spit out his rats before if he smells another snake getting quail.
Miriam the ball python - will happily eat solid white rats or solid black rats, but no bi-colored ones. Will just sit there and sniff it all night. Something about the way she does it is just very judgemental
Ed the Mexican black kingsnake - the pickiest kingsnake I've ever met, ever. Tried to give him a piece of raw chicken once and he spent an hour just circling it warily.
Fucking Fred the ball python: actually, legitimately wags his tail when I offer him a rat and he's not in the mood. I say "wag" because it's way too slow to look like a proper tail rattle. He only does this when he doesn't want to eat and he wants to make that very clear. He's one of like five ball pythons I've ever met who do that, it's very silly.
And honorable mention for a food-related goof-up:
Stede the Trans Pecos ratsnake: once traumatized himself by shooting right past his mouse trying to strike it, he bonked his nose into a climbing branch and he still refuses to eat on that side of the enclosure.

My Dodo:
(Snakes, pet loss)
Tumblr media
A Kenyan sand boa at a rennasaince festival is what made me fall in love with snakes. I didn't have a KSB right away. For several years, I kept other types of snakes. Years later, by total coincidence, I found my Dodo on Craig's List. She looked so much like the one I had held that one day. They weren't the same morph, but very similar colors.
Tumblr media
I named her Domino, but I came to know several people with pets called Domino, and eventually just started calling her Dodo. By that point, it was also in memory of my favorite snake, Momo. A trans-pecos rat snake, he was my precious boy. He was my whole life for a couple of years. My time with Momo and Dodo overlapped by several months.
Tumblr media
I was on an anxiety medication that was working well for several years, and then my brain slowly started having reactions to it. I got to this point where I was dissociating, bad. I was practically having out of body experiences. I was having full on delusions and false memories. I was blacking out. Nothing made sense. During this time, one night I removed Momo from his tank, and walked away with him. I don't know what happened after that. I never saw him again. The next morning, found his tank open, and he was gone. My heart will never fully heal.
I still didn't know it was the meds. I thought that whatever was going on, the meds would keep it from getting worse. I knew I couldn't take care of my snakes until I got better - if I got better.
I rehomed most of my snakes with a woman who was a volunteer reptile educater. I gave a very aggressive Texas rat snake to a trusted friend. This snake, Drax, I suspect had been wild caught, and was sick with parasites. I had to get him healthy, and my friend took it from there. She says he's still a spicy boy these days, but able to be handled.
Tumblr media
I just kept Dodo. I had nothing left in my heart, but I kept her out of guilt. She was my tiniest, youngest snake. She was so silly and fun. I felt that my husband could keep an eye on just this one snake. He could supervise me when I fed or handled her. He really stepped up.
Not too long after that, I was having dysphagia caused by the medication. It was terrifying. I don't really know what caused me to suspect the meds, but I quit cold turkey. Being able to swallow water again was amazing, but the mental effects were nearly unbearable. I was acting completely insane. I would scream and wail like a banshee. I felt like someone was trying to scratch their way out of my head. My wonderful husband stuck by me.
During this time, we were preparing for a move across the country. Something I had suggested in a lucid moment, because we really hated the sweltering heat and humid air of Georgia, and had been unhappy for a long time.
We drove out west on a two day road trip with five dogs, two rabbits, a hamster, and Dodo, who was just as docile and content as could be.
Tumblr media
Dodo. I didn't love her. I couldn't even think about snakes. I was too sad. I did the motions, taking care of her diligently, but it took a really long time to connect. Only recently did I start feeling like I could love a little snake again. And she is so worth my heart. I couldn't sleep last night so I took her out and sat with her for a little bit, and something inside me just clicked. This is my little scaly gal. I will always care for her. I love her.
