2017: Goals & Resolutions
New year, new list of shit I promise myself I’d do. To tell you the truth, I am getting too old for the whole ambiguous, far-fetched and redundant intentions which we have all tried to resolve year after year. So this year, I decided to be hella realistic. Without further ado, here are 5 goals and 5 resolutions that I will surely attain by the end of the year!
Tumblr media
GOALS:
1. Create content on this blog and on every other creative platform consistently this year. - I have officially hit my quota of disappearing and reappearing on the interweb. I am now back for good, I promise. I will do my best to post at least two blog entries every week on IAMVV.
2. Be fit enough to do something extraordinary. - I like working out but I love food. Yup. A never ending conundrum. This year I am not making any excuses anymore. I will get fit and do something I have always wanted to but couldn’t! Maybe run a marathon or idk, climb Mt. Fuji?
3. Actually save money (and not spend it at the end of the year). - Yes, I do save, but I also spend a lot. As part of my adulting initiative for myself, I have to be financially practical and secure (or at least try to be) this year. I have to have savings not only for my material and immediate needs but as well as for my long-term plans.
Tumblr media
4. Be able to naturally converse in Nihongo. - As some of you may know, I currently live in Tokyo. So far, I can perform basic conversations like ordering food (duh) and expressing some of my thoughts but I have yet to find the confidence nor have I acquired enough Nihongo skills to have an actual conversation in the language. By the end of this year I should be able to express myself in the language without stuttering or pulling out my jisho.
5. Learn how to cook 5 things like a pro. - Fun fact! I grew up in the restaurant industry but due to medieval provincial beliefs, I never learned how to cook. It sucks, I know. But I currently live alone and I have an extremely tiny kitchen where I plan to make magic and burn tons of shit this year. Hopefully by the end of 2017, I can share photos of incredibly delicious and edible plates of food.
RESOLUTIONS:
1. Be nicer. - I can be quite mean at times especially when I’m pissed. I will do my best to be more aware of what comes out of my mouth from now on (no matter how true it may be).
2. Learn to see the good in people, things and situations. - I am an extreme pessimist and over-thinker. I live by Murphy’s Law but I know I overdo it at times. Time to be more positive!
3. Get out more. Live more. - With all the shit that went down in 2016, staying home was basically all I did. This year I shall go out and live more which means more adventures!
Tumblr media
4. Be less vengeful. - I like doing karma’s job but I think I should just sit back, relax and let her do her thing this time.
5. Be happy about something everyday (if possible). - I’m not crazy. I don’t want to be ecstatic 24/7 but I would love to smile about something everyday instead of sulking about everything.
That’s it, guys! What do you think? I’m feeling pretty confident about this year’s list! How about you? What are your goals and resolutions?

I’M BAAACK (AGAIN)!
Tumblr media
2016 WAS A FCKING BTCH. LEMME TELL YA. BUT, it also raked in a lot of great things and pushed me to get out of my comfort zone. Now that it’s 2017 and I have officially slapped some sense into me, I am back! Now with a more focused blog, better content, and more adventures! I guess you guys must be wondering where I have been during the latter half of 2016 so here’s a quick update! :)
August: I moved to Tokyo! I am taking a postgrad program on language and culture in Waseda University. I will be here for about a year and a half. Lived in a cute airbnb and lived off of crepes and famima chicken.
Tumblr media
September: I meant to update my blog by this time (and I was even supposed to start a vlog!) but so much shit went down and a lot of adulting was required so obviously I failed to post any content. And oh, I celebrated my first month living in Tokyo by going to Ultra Japan with the gorgeous woo girls of Tokyo (hihi)! #winningatadulting
Tumblr media
October: To say that halloween in Japan is crazy would be an understatement. Partied at WOMB and took lots of photos with my IJ girls at Shibuya. Definitely one for the books!
Tumblr media
November: A lot of shopping and eating and hauls that never made it to this blog. That one’s on me. (Yes, those are real LVs piled up on a long table. ILY JAPAN.)
Tumblr media
December: Been living in Tokyo for 3 months now but I’m only starting to become touristy all because of bubba’s Christmas visit.
Tumblr media
That’s pretty much it. Obviously a lot more went down in between but those were the highlights that I can still vividly remember today. Sorry for being gone for so long. This year will be better. I promise!
New year, new beginnings! May the months of hiatus, research and revamp work in my favor. Cheers to 2017 and all of its amazing surprises!

Faves: February 2016
Yeah, yeah. I know, I know. This is a week late but here it is anyway! A short list of what I loved in February. The last one’s for you!
Tumblr media
Before I start with product faves, I have to share my current monthly-until-it-fades-oh-so-help-me favorite! I’m back with purple hair!!! It’s so good to see some color back in my locks. Only this time, it’s so much better! My blue and violet balayage was artistically created by Louis Phillip Kee of Lifestyle Salon. (Will talk more about my hair and my experience on another post.)
Tumblr media
To maintain the shade as much as I can, I needed to revamp my shower essentials. I threw out my sulfate filled hair products and got safer ones for my purple locks. My favorites among all of my hair color protectors are these two babies! Marc Anthony’s Volumizing Collagen Bamboo Sulfate Free Shampoo doesn’t only help keep my hair color on point but it has kicked my flathead problem away! Since it was recommended that I refrain from washing my hair for the first three days, I had to scout for the best dry shampoo in my area. Coz you know, I ain’t nasty. Eva Nye’s Dry Shampoo helped keep my no-wash freshly dyed hair smelling fresh and oil free. Unlike other dry shampoos, this won’t leave white stains on your hair and scalp and it gives your hair a bit of umf!
Tumblr media
Now let’s move on to other shower essentials! Yup. I’m not yet over it, guys. I raved about the Winter Candy Apple scent from Bath & Body Works in my January faves and, well, I meant what I said about how much I loved it. I got the hand soap from the same line (Thanks, mum!). It seriously smells so good!
Tumblr media
Speaking of smelling good, check out this golden scent box from Estee Lauder. I have always used the brand’s Signature scent but I believe it is time to move up and grow up. The brand’s Beautiful line elevates their classic perfume to a more sophisticated level.
Tumblr media
Another favorite brand of mine is Bobbi Brown and I recently purchased two of the most amazing products from them. I am always on the lookout for the perfect non-creasing perfect coverage concealer. Since Anton, my make-up artist, always uses this concealer shade on me, I decided to get myself one! This set came with a creamy concealer in the shade of Natural Tan and a sheer finish powder in Pale Yellow.
Tumblr media
But of course, there are some things that concealers can’t cover up so I make it a point to take care of my skin. I decided to purchase Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Face Base to keep my make-up intact while protecting and nourishing my skin. Plus! The shea butter in it makes my face smell and feel like I just got out of the spa.
Tumblr media
Since we’re on the topic of looking good, here’s one of the best faves I have ever posted on this blog! I wanted to be selfish about this but, you know what! You guys deserve all the fun that I’m having. IMHO, this is the best fitness app in-store right now. KFIT is basically a subscription that allows you to go to a bunch of random classes that you can choose from in your area. From yoga to HIIT, they’ve got flexible schedules for you. This is perfect for people like me who can’t commit to just one fitness track or one area. KFIT gives you the chance to book classes depending on your schedule, area and preference. Monthly subscription is P999. Check it out!
Tumblr media
A bonus fave for this month is this hit counter which I finally found the time to install late last month. This way, I can see how often you guys drop by Virtual Vikki! Thanks for visiting. Talk to you guys soon!

FAVES: January 2016
Is it just me or did this month go way too fast? Seriously. Where did my January go?! Anyway, before we get too excited about hopping onto love month, here’s a rundown of my faves during the first month of the year!
Tumblr media
First thing on the list is my planner! If you know me personally then you probably know that I can’t survive without one of these babies. I am literally the most forgetful person I know. Simply trying to remember deadlines, tasks and whatnot has never worked out too well for me. Instead of going for the Starbucks planner like I have for the past 5 years, I decided to get the 2016 Focus Journal for a change.
Tumblr media
The planner is of great quality, it’s lightweight, has enough space for both its daily and monthly outlines and it helps me get shit done. The journal has three core principles which are namely: practice, express and reflect. I especially love how you can put weekly tasks which helps me keep my priorities in check. Plus! It’s locally made! #SupportLocal y’all. So far, I am happy with my purchase. Job well done, Viviamo! Inc. And of course, with a pretty planner I needed a nice pen to go with it.
Tumblr media
My go-to cheap thrill, M&G, was set aside for this month’s second favorite: my very own Parker pen! I’ve always wanted one of these but I guess I just never found the time to get myself one. So you can just imagine how happy I was when my friend, Daniel, gifted me this beautiful pen for Christmas! I love how he even had my name engraved on it. AHH! Thanks again, Luna! :)
Tumblr media
Now, let’s go to this month’s beauty faves! To start things off, I would like to holla at everyone behind Bath and Body Works because y’all never fail to make a girl smell so damn good! One of my students gave me the Winter Candy Apple lotion from B&BW. Girl, let me tell ya. This is definitely one of the best Christmas editions from the brand. You guys know how much I freaking love Lush but ever since I got this, I haven’t lathered on my Karma Kream and that’s a big deal coming from me! This lotion literally makes me smell like freaking candied apples.
Tumblr media
To make me smell even sweeter, my aunt gifted me these adorable products from my fave Korean brand, Tony Moly! I’m sure you guys have heard of the brand’s Banana line. Well, she got me the Banana hand lotion. I’ve tried the face mask (which was amazing btw) before so I knew this hand cream was going to be nothing but delicious (figure of speech ok don’t eat it if you get yourself one). And I was right! Like the face mask, it smelled exactly like mashed bananas (but in a good way). Not everyone may like it but I love it. To make things even better, my aunt got me their Peach lip balm which has been keeping my lips hydrated throughout the day. And oh! The packaging for both the hand cream and the balm are so cute!
Tumblr media
My last two beauty favorites are from my trip to Bangkok. I’m not a huge fan of shimmery shadow so when I found this Meet Matt(e) Nude Palette by The Balm Cosmetics I knew I had to have it! It comes with nine different colors which I have been using for both day and night looks for the past month.
Tumblr media
My next fave is this awesome dupe of the Artis Makeup Brush! Despite its plastic handle, the Melinda brush has extremely dense, fine and soft bristles which makes applying makeup so much easier. It’s may not be as great as the Artis brush but hey! Close enough, right?
Tumblr media
For the whole month of January, I was incredibly busy with adulting for work which bit off most of my month. Luckily, I was able to keep my cool because of Eddie Huang and his family. Yes, I survived falling in line for hours because of Fresh Off the Boat Season 2! I imported the whole season on my iPad and brought it with me to all of my appointments. It kept me entertained and sane throughout the month.
Tumblr media
For days when I had to do quick tasks, I’d whip my phone out and click on these three main apps while on queue: 1010! which is a new variation of the game tetris,
Tumblr media
Color Switch which is an incredibly annoying game where you have to match the ball’s color to the the spinning wheels,
Tumblr media
and the last and the best fave of them all, Neko Atsume! I’m pretty sure you guys have heard about this adorable game because, really? Who hasn’t?! The goal is to attract cats to come over to your yard or in your house (if you have expanded already) by purchasing and leaving toys, food and a bunch of other things that you think they might like.
Tumblr media
It’s so addicting and incredibly relaxing. If you don’t have this game yet, you should definitely download it. Like, now! I mean, look at how adorable my cats are. Chill AF.
Tumblr media
That ends my January faves! Wish I had more to show you guys but that’s pretty much it. I’ve been so busy working on a new project which I will hopefully be introducing here soon so stay tuned! I hope you all had a great month. Talk to you soon, my loves!

11 Things I learned in 2015
I can’t believe the new year is here! 2015 was one hell of a ride for me but I’m proud to say that I made it! Before I usher in 2016, let’s look back at how the past year made me an even better version of myself. Here are a few things that 2015 taught me.
Tumblr media
1. Hard work pays off.
From finishing my requirements in order to graduate to applying for a job, I realized that working your ass off will always be worth it in the end.
2. Spontaneous decisions make great memories.
A lot of unforgettable and fun memories that I made from the past year were all made possible by spur of the moment decisions. I colored my hair purple, I traveled a lot, and I got into a lot of different things!
3. Take risks and learn from them.
I cannot count the number of times that I was pushed down and rejected in 2015 but not trying at all would be a greater disappointment. Doing a bunch of things like starting Style Market Manila, going into job interviews for positions that I could only dream of, and so on taught me so much.
4. Adulting can be fun.
Tumblr media
I whined about figuring out adult life the past year mainly because I felt so lost. After figuring my shit out (kinda), I am now able to enjoy my disposition right now. It’s nowhere near perfect but hey, I survived!
5. Everyone lies.
I hated facing and accepting this fact but being lied to countless times in my face the past year made it possible. Nothing hurts more than seeing someone tell you their version of the truth when you know it’s a lie.
6. Don’t regret the money you lose on experience.
Probably one of the best things I learned the past year. For the first time, I traveled using my own personal money and I have zero regrets! Every peso was worth it. The memories that I have made, the people that I have met and the fun that I’ve had are irreplaceable.
7. Love yourself.
Tumblr media
I suck at this but the past year taught me how to leave a little bit for myself. I learned to prioritize myself, my dreams, my goals and my happiness in 2015. This changed me the most.
8. Tough times don’t last.
I am a very realistic (err... pessimistic, at times) person so I’m not big on happily ever afters and all that rainbows and butterflies kind of stuff but the past year made me appreciate the yang to my yin. When there is bad, there is good. It’s only a matter of perspective.
9. Communication is key.
Simply saying what you truly feel could make a whole lot of difference.
10. Claim it and it shall be yours.
Believing in my capabilities, telling myself that I can, and putting action into it greatly improved my character the past year. If you think that you can, chances are you’ll get whatever it is that you want!
11. A better boss ass bitch.
Tumblr media
Stop being a pussy and have the balls to fight for what you want. I became bolder, braver and stronger the past year. With all the BS that life threw my way, I managed to deal with every single one of it without even breaking a nail. I totes owned it.
Thank you 2015 for making this a tough year. I wouldn’t have seen my real potential if you went easy on me. Now I can truly say that I am so ready to take the new year by the horns!
Happy New Year everyone! May this be our year for claiming success, reaching our goals and living life to the fullest. Bring it on, 2016!

Chill AF: Paincake Patrol
Back in the 90s and early 2000s, artists were celebrated for their creativity, wit and artistry in the music industry. It’s 2015 and I thought I have lost all faith in hopes of finding good local artists in the Philippines up until a friend of mine introduced me to Paincake Patrol. Eeman Bulotano, a one-man electronic music maestro, created Paincake Patrol in hopes of starting an ambient music pandemic. Oh let me tell ya, it sure as hell got to me.
Tumblr media
Music has played such a huge part in my life. Songs that may seem incredibly stupid, non-sensical and boring to you may be of importance to me. IMHO, that’s how it’s supposed to be.
Tumblr media
When people ask me what kind of music I’m into or what bands and which artists I like, I usually end up spitting out a bunch of randoms from opposite ends of the music sphere. I don’t like limiting myself in just one genre because honestly, my taste in music solely depends on my mood.
But if I had to choose, I’d choose music that’s meant to be felt rather than those with great beats but have dumb ass lyrics. You know what, I’m gonna shut up. Just listen to Paincake Patrol and you’ll get what I’m trying to say.
*CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO SOME PAINCAKE GOODNESS*
Yup. Awesome, right? You’re welcome.
Don’t forget to check out Paincake Patrol online for show details and new tracks:
FB: https://www.facebook.com/paincakepatrol/
Band Camp: http://paincakepatrol.bandcamp.com/
PS. Eeman, thank you. Your music is dope. I need to see you play live for *feels*.

Don’t date a law student.
I have been there from the start. From the moment he had his doubts about pushing through with it, to getting accepted, to his first day -- I was there. Entering a relationship with a man knowing that the next 5 years of his life will be dedicated to sleepless nights with his codal, writing hundreds of cases, time and stress management, and preparing for legal war in class was and still is hard. It gets harder everyday.
So, here’s why you should not date a law student.
Tumblr media
1. You will never come first. You have to understand, this is their dream they’re working for. Of course you don’t get to be top priority. If you’re one to crave for attention on the daily, look for someone else. Time is extremely precious for our law school babies. They don’t even sleep! But on days that their classes get suspended or the professor does not show up and there aren’t any cases to be read or laws to be memorized, you will be his or her world for that day. Be thankful.
2. Time is everything-- for them. Honestly, I hate this the most. Remember when he wasn’t in law school yet and you had all the time in the world to talk and hang out? Well, date a law student and you’ll realize how precious a 30 second phone call is. If you’re one to demand time (like me!), this won’t be the right fit for you. You need a certain level of patience when you are romantically involved with someone in law school. Time is of the essence especially with the amount of workload they have. Only understanding people can be with them.
3. Conversations will involve legal terms and situations. Yes. This happens. If you’re stupid, don’t date a law student because chances are you will not understand any of his legal ramblings. My law school baby would sometimes call me just to rant about how stupid a case or a current issue is. No. He doesn’t just say it like that. He discusses everything to me like how he probably would in court minus the cursing. So don’t date a law student if you’re the type to roll your eyes about people who talk too much and who you would claim as ‘know-it-alls’ because they are extremely proud of knowing it all about the law. If your intellectual capacity cannot take this kind of information, run.
4. They unknowingly shift to lawyer mode during fights. I cannot count the times that I have asked my law student baby to kick Atty. Grimares out because I needed to talk to my boyfriend, Derek. They will try to lawyer their way out of fights and if you’re not smart enough to retaliate, shoot down or find that loop hole in their argument, you will never win. Don’t date a law student because it is a fact that they don’t like losing, or at least going down without a fight. Sorry is never going to cut it. Believe me. So if you’re into guys who just bend over and take it, then a law student is not for you.
5. Vices on the daily. My relationship with my law school baby for the past 3 and a half years has been filled with amazing memories and bottles and bottles of beer. When they unwind, they do it with alcohol. It helps them relax and take the edge off for a bit. And no, this doesn’t happen during happy hour or the weekend. It usually happens after their exams, a bad recit, a good recit, or a fuck-this-shit moment. That usually happens around 10 in the evening or 2 in the morning. If you can’t tolerate people who smoke, drink or do some other recreational vice, then don’t date a law student. Only partners who know how to have fun like they do will last with these law school babies. If you can’t deal with an impromptu drinking spree, then shift your eyes elsewhere.
6. Law school is life. Even when they look like they are relaxing or maybe going on a Netflix-and-chill date with you, the probability that law school related stuff is running in their mind is very high. They overthink everything. They’re addicted to thinking about how they did on their recit, what their exam results will probably look like, how many points will they need to get through a certain professor’s class, and so on! If you can’t find it in your heart to make room for law school worries or recognize how he has made this his life, then don’t date a law student. Inconsideration on your part will not work out. Their worries will be your worries so if you can’t deal, stay away.
7. You are required to do damage control. Nervous breakdowns, uncontrolled caffeine intake, road-to-lung-cancer packs of cigarettes, throwing up -- stress will really get to them. Don’t be shocked if you walk in on him shaving his head or going on hobo mode by not shaving at all. It happens. Everything else other than the 200 cases he needs to digest is unimportant right now and he is on the brink of breaking down. That is where you come in. You need to snap him out of it and help him out because nobody will. If you’re not into taking care of someone beyond what is required of a person, then don’t date a law student. Because if you do, you will have to calm him down, you will have to write half of his digests for him just so he won’t go crazy, you will have to drive down to his house to make sure he eats and bathes, you have to take extra good care of him when he is sick because at this point, he doesn’t care anymore. If you can’t love someone greater than you love yourself, don’t go for a law student. You’re going to need a lot of love to deal with one.
If you’re impatient, cruel, insensitive, conceited, and don’t know how to have fun, don’t date a law student. Based on my experience, relationships don’t last. Law school is a curse for relationships. Only a few couples really make it through law school and it’s mostly because their non-law student partners cannot adapt to the situation. But if you’re strong, ruthless, patient, fun and loving, dating a law student will be great for you. Hell, that will be amazing for them!
If you’re dating a law student, the feels must be extremely strong right now. If you’re going through a rough patch with your law student SO, here’s a little advice from someone who has been at it for almost 4 years now: Yes. Our law school babies may be busy all the time and pre-occupied with their academic life, but don’t worry. They see everything we do for them. They feel all the love that we are trying to show them. From every comforting hug to the countless praises that we have given them, they feel it and it helps. They may not show it the way you want to, but they’re trying. Sometimes, it gets unbearable and it starts to hurt you on the inside but you have to understand, only you can love your law student. Despite their shortcomings, they try really hard.
And to my dearest law school babies: may you be in love, looking for love or forsaken by it, everything is going to be okay. Love and appreciate everyone around you and show them you’re thankful for what they do. Don’t be too selfish now, okay? Keep your eyes on the prize. Now stop reading this and go back to your cases!
PS. To my dearest law school baby, Derek: You’re a pain in the ass but I love you. Been here from the start, will be here when you cross the finish line. Please shave your hobo beard. Thanks.

Birthday Wish List 2015!
I am welcoming August with open arms as I prepare to celebrate my 22nd birthday this year!
Tumblr media
I am feeling incredibly old and struggling on a daily basis to look far from it. One of the many ways that I would like to do to celebrate my birth month is by indulging my personal wishes by writing about them. It’s the least I can do for myself, guys. So, please, don’t judge me. Without further ado, here is my 2015 birthday list that is filled with cheap, realistic, overpriced, superficial, weird, and downright that-is-so-Vikki wishes!
1. Urban Decay Naked Palette. No, I don’t care if it’s the first, second or the latest release. I just want one so bad. I hate doing my eye make-up but recently, I discovered that it could be more fun than frustrating! So, yes, I want a Naked Palette (or anything that is at par with its quality). Throwing in a few brushes won’t hurt too.
Tumblr media
2. MAC lipstick in MATTE or any good quality lippy that goes on MATTE. I hate non-matte lipsticks. Just, no. (Any color will do.) 3. LUSH Karma Kream Lotion. Ugh. Body cream sent down from heaven. I need it in my life. I just finished the one I got earlier this year and my skin is not happy about it.
Tumblr media
4. A charm for my Pandora bracelet. I need a reason to start wearing it. Adding more charms is reason enough. 5. Marble designed case for my 13” MacBook Pro to stylishly cover up the dents and scratches that clumsy me has made on it. 6. Let’s go out on a fancy date in a posh restaurant that serves good food that I haven’t been to and get me - 7. - a bottle of bubbly. Red, white or champagne. I don’t care. Just get me one ASAP. 8. Take me to Zalora’s pop-up store in Shangri-La and buy me the first three things I fall in love with. Please. 9. Anything from Aranaz or Aranaz TU! Even if it’s just a small notebook or a maybe a stylish bag. I don’t care. I just want something from Aranaz so bad! (They’re on sale this month, btw.)
Tumblr media
10. A shopping spree at Forever 21/H&M/Topshop/Zara please. Some of these stores are on sale too! wink wink 11. A scented candle that actually smells good! 12. Go thrift shopping with me at thrift shops, vintage stores or warehouse sales and don’t be whiney about it. I am addicted to cheap thrills but getting the best ones usually requires a whole lot of patience. Going on a thrift adventure with someone sounds fun!
Tumblr media
13. A paper shredder. All my close friends know how much I have always wanted one. 14. Tons of bubble wrap. One of my favorite stress relievers. I mean, who doesn’t like popping those, right? 15. Complete seasons and episodes of my favorite shows that have already ended: Gossip Girl, How I Met Your Mother, 90210, Lost, House, Supernatural (still ongoing). I don’t care if it’s the original set or if it is procured via Torrent. I need it for some major hermit days.
Tumblr media
16. A sick 90s mixtape. I don’t even need to explain this one.
Tumblr media
17. A roadtrip to somewhere I haven’t been to. 18. An adorable teacup or a whole tea set. Lola vibes. 19. Girl Boss book. For some reason, this book is always out of stock! But I really want to read it. Amoruso is #goals.
Tumblr media
20. Spa day! Yes. A massage sounds so good right now. 21. All the Korean barbecue and chapchae (only the legit kind please) in my favorite K-restos: Samgyup and Korean BBQ Restaurant. 22. A penguin onesie. How the hell do I not have one yet?
Tumblr media
That concludes this year’s birthday wish list. Hope August turns out better than I ought it to be! Cheers!
