Honestly so thankful for my current job. Since January I’ve gotten to:

-give a man with Down’s syndrome his very first paycheck

-help a woman who had been out of work from a disabling injury find meaningful accommodated employment

-saw one of my people who fought the hardest to stay clean from heroin get his first driver’s license

-watch a young man fresh out of high school realize his career goals are reachable

-and met countless of other folks with a full spectrum of disabilities and worked with them towards independence goals like jobs, cars, ect.

I honestly don’t even think I could stand working in a bank/office/whatever business major bros do. This has been honestly transformational for me and my community.

Voc rehab says that there has been several unsuccessful attempts to contact me. They have not attempted to contact me, or perhaps they somehow got my phone number wrong? "In an effort to provide continued services, we have made several unsuccessful attempts to contact you. If we don not hear from you within ten working days the assumption will be made you are no longer interested in services and your cases will be closed."

Bitch what the fuck you completely fail to contact ME within ten business days without sending me a letter and you are putting it on ME? How about get your shit together. If I don't hear from them today, I won't be continuing services with them from now on.

I have come to the conclusion that Vocational Rehabilitation is a ploy for cheap labor. You get paid, but only minimum wage. I haven't learned much job skills at all. It's a scam.

New blog title in honor of my favorite new song from Chris Fleming…about luxury movie theaters, but I think it also applies to my powerchair. That thing is like 200 pounds of riding around campus Inspector Gadget style. It has giant wheels that could crush someone’s feet at 10 miles per hour AND a special cooling seat cover. (And adjustable seat height.)

A month ago, I got a new vocational rehabilitation agent. We've talked on the phone twice, but we've been communicating mostly via text. Last time we talked on the phone, she told me that I should contact her if my new job services provider hadn't called me in two weeks. Today, it's been two weeks, and I haven't heard from the new provider, so I texted my VR agent. She quickly sent this reply:

Good Afternoon ,

"Please let me know your name and will [sic] gladly look into your case. It is impossible for me to know each client by phone number."

I found this very terse. I also found it very confusing, as it implied that she hadn't saved my contact info in her phone and that she hadn't thought to scroll up in our text chain, which would've taken no effort. After this, I lost all faith in her. Admittedly, the bar was already low. Working with VR, I've encountered nothing but incompetence.

more context and stuff under the cut, i just don't want to make a long post on ppl's dashboards

my landlord has been cheating on his husband, and their relationship is rocky. he also has a massive spending addiction according to his husband. his spending addiction is making him not want to perform the actual duties of a landlord, because investment costs are cutting into his shopping spree funds

ex, he is illegally not fixing a leak in the shower of the upstairs tenants, and claims the costs are more than their rent. he told them to "figure it out, or get the fuck out." (verbatim.) he also told me it would be cheaper for him to not have tenants at all bc his utility bills would be smaller. he then left it to ME to inform another tenant to leave (then gaslit me and denied it in front of his husband when his husband questioned it)

in his words, we have 90 days to leave. i am disabled and a full time student and have been living on my fafsa returns, and the last job i had made one of my disabilities worse to the point i've had intensive physical therapy (several hours several times a week) and am likely going to have to undergo surgery

i'm also mi/nd, so even on a good day i'm not very well equipped to handle things, and the recent stress has also caused my therapist to see me several times a week in lieu of institutionalization

all that said, i'm not in a good spot physically or mentally, hence the best i can do right now is offer some of my skills on kofi

i'm currently working with my state's vocational rehab to try and find a suitable job until i can get my degree, but even then i simply would not be able to afford the costs of a sudden move in the timeframe i've got to work with

UPDATE MARCH 25, 2024: i want to invest in a scooter to do gig work like doordash. this will let me work at my own pace, and earn towards the move myself, then i'll have some more independence to continue doing that after as well

they require 50cc or under, which means i could get a scooter for under $1,000. i'd also need to cover fees to renew my license (i let it lapse since i haven't had a vehicle), get a helmet, and get insurance (roughly $100 annually)

i also made some amazon wishlists for folks who would like to help but prefer to know exactly where their money's going. i have one for housewarming stuff here, and one for necessities here

update as of april 5: my cat peed on my bed, and since it's a memory foam mattress it soaked all the way through and ruined it

update as of april 7: she did it again. this time there's blood in it

update as of april 14: i still haven't been able to take her to the vet, but i've been trying to do at home remedies

She is at her destination and now needs help paying for prorated and first months rent on an apartment she got approved for. I will update again as soon as possible. She is getting food help and has a job though is only holding one until she can get into vocational rehab.

my partner & i are both autistic, disabled & trans. i've been sufferin with mystery debilitatin fatigue & pain which i'm pretty sure cost me my last job last month, & my partner has been very sick almost the entire month of november missin work & school both. we're both workin with dept of vocational rehab to find more accessible jobs, but we have no income at the moment. we have about a week to ten days to come up with the $825 we're short for rent & we desperately need to keep a roof over our heads as it starts snowin in denver
