Do you have an OC with a funny/weird/unusual creation story? (not the story of the character itself, but the way the character happened / you suddenly got attached; any character you didnt plan on keeping around, but then kinda did?) Tell the story!

There is actually no OC of mine whose creation story I would consider especially funny/weird/unusual. But I do have some OCs, who I didn’t really plan to create and then they got a bigger role than intended.

One example for this would in fact be Winfried.

When my medieval headworld was freshly created, I needed some basic characters running around, especially at the royal court (where the story starts). One was a teacher for the young prince. I soon had the basics for it in mind and created Walter, a simple lizard. Then, I thought that a royal court would have more than one teacher around, and it would probably be a sign of prestige to have scholars from other kingdoms around to teach the young prince. So, I created Letizia, a simple wolf. Keep in mind, they were just created as minor characters mainly for the first part of the main story. After I created those two, I thought it would actually not be far off, if those two were a couple, they work in the same position, see each other often…

And suddenly Winfried existed! :'D

All three of them where still minor characters, I never planned for Winfried to exist anyways, he just kind of happened. But soon I grew a liking in Winfried and used him for more and more things, and before I knew, he is one of the most important characters to the story and essential for some important plot points.

In the meanwhile, he also is one of my most important OCs for me personally, even outside my headworld. :)

I mention another example, so I can talk a bit about one of my lesser (or not at all) known OC. :)

Not quite the same, but also an OC who got a bigger role than intended is Wasim.

I just needed a random insect character for a short scene, to show how different two of the more important characters think about the enemy (and act accordingly). I actually drew this scene many years ago, haha. :'D

And that was it for a long time, he didn’t even have a name. Over the years I created more and more details of the story and at one point I needed some insect characters who appear in the background. Since I’m a fan of random characters appearing several times throughout a story, I actually remembered that random wasp dude from that one scene. So now he could be sometimes seen in the background at this specific place. Which also made complete sense for him to appear there, since it is a secret tavern in the lizard kingdom (no insects allowed in the kingdom at this point in time), which is totally in accordance with him being caught earlier trespassing into the lizard territory.

Even later, I created a part of the story, where I needed an insect character who guides two important characters (insects) to this secret tavern in the lizard kingdom. It just made so much sense to use that one wasp dude for this! :'D

But this time, I gave him a proper design, a name, a personality, and an own little background story.

Wasim went from a random one-shot character without a name, to a character, who actually does have an important role (yes, minor characters can also help with the big events). Him guiding those two to the tavern is an act, which later helps to lead to the main event of the story (peace between lizards and insects). He even does briefly meet the two lizard guys again, who captured him all these years ago.
