9 Days of Solomon: Day 9 - Humanity
Okay I have just enough time to post this today. Happy birthday Solomon, you old sorcerer. I don't know what it is about your cheeky lil laugh, but I love it and your stupid face.
Since we were talking about other characters mentioning that Solomon is a little less than human, I kinda took that idea and ran with it.
Anyway, thank you to @/impish-ivy for hosting this event! I had fun with all of the prompts and I loved writing about Solomon.
Tumblr media
GN!MC x Solomon
Warnings: bed sharing but nothing sexy (if you want sexy, go read the one I wrote for the "pact" prompt lol)
Tumblr media
Most of the time, you were admiring the way the starlight of the Devildom sparkled across Solomon's hair, making it look like shining silver. But the way it looked in the human world, with the sun's rays bringing out the warmth and making it look almost gold was just as captivating.
You had come to the human world for a little while with everyone in tow. It was a getaway hosted by Diavolo, a time for you to take a break from school work and enjoy the world you so rarely inhabited these days.
And while everyone else enjoyed their time there, it was undeniable that you and Solomon had a different experience. It was something you mentioned, about being in the world that had been your home for most of your life, the nuances about it that you understood better than those of the Devildom.
When Solomon agreed with you, someone else brought up the fact that he himself was practically a demon. They had said it before, of course. But for some reason, it was on your mind today. Perhaps because you were here with Solomon in the world you both originally came from - the world where you belonged and yet did not belong at the same time.
The two of you had gone for a little coffee break at a nearby cafe. You were sitting together outside at one of the small tables, soaking in the bright sunlight of afternoon.
There was a moment of comfortable silence between you before you said, "Do you ever feel that you're no longer human?"
Solomon blinked, clearly not expecting you to ask such a heavy question. He put down his coffee to think about it for a moment, seriously considering it.
"Sometimes," he said. "But in the end, no matter how I've changed, I am still human. Are you feeling that way, MC?"
You sighed. "Not exactly," you said. "But being back here in the human world makes me realize how different I've become. You must have been dealing with that feeling for a long time now."
Solomon sat back and looked out at the street, the passing people, the sunlight in the trees. "It's a unique experience. Even humans that become sorcerers or witches still have their short lifespan. In that sense, I'm more like the demons and angels - living far longer than any human normally would."
"How do you deal with that?" you asked.
Solomon looked back at you and smiled brightly. "It's easier now than it's ever been."
You frowned. "How so?"
Solomon leaned on the table toward you. "Because every time I look at you, I see my own humanity reflected back at me."
Your eyes widened a little before you laughed and looked away. "You're so ridiculous."
Solomon laughed, too, leaning back in his chair again.
Perhaps you didn't believe him. It seemed so silly to think that Solomon's understanding of his own identity was profoundly affected by your very presence. You were sure he was only saying that to make you feel better. He was always looking out for you and minimizing his own pain to make things easier for you. It wasn't like you didn't notice.
That night, your thoughts were churning as you stared up at the dark ceiling of the hotel room that Diavolo had procured for you. A few doors down, you hoped Solomon was peacefully asleep in his.
As for yourself, you couldn't stop thinking about the conversation you had with him earlier. The implications of everything he had said, about his life and what it meant to be human, were weighing heavily upon your heart. You wanted him to be happy. If he found himself in you, what would he do when you were gone?
There was a soft knock on your hotel room door. Puzzled, you got out of bed to open it.
Your stomach twisted when you saw Solomon on the other side. He looked terrible, like he had been tossing and turning all night. There were dark circles under his eyes, his hair was mussed, and his pajamas were askew.
"MC," he said, his voice sounding strained and hoarse. "I'm sorry, did I wake you?"
"No," you said. "I was still awake. Is everything okay?"
Solomon's eyes met yours. In those shades of grey, brown, and a hint of blue, you saw a depth of pain you had never seen in him before. Only for a moment did it linger before everything seemed to clear, before it was all replaced with something else. Fondness? Love?
No. It was belonging.
Solomon looked at you like he had finally found himself.
"I couldn't sleep," Solomon said simply. "And I wanted to see you."
He didn't really need to tell you this. Understanding shivered between you, like two lost souls resonating at the same vibration.
You reached out and took his hand, pulling him into your room. You closed the door behind him. You didn't let go of him as you went back to your bed.
Solomon didn't protest. He allowed you to guide him, finding his way beneath the blankets beside you in the plush hotel linens.
You snuggled into his side, wrapping one arm around him. The other hand held his still, clutched against your chest.
You gently kissed the back of his hand. "I couldn't sleep, either. So I'm glad you're here."
Solomon huffed a small laugh that ruffled against your hair. "You were thinking about my humanity, weren't you?"
You wiggled against him a little bit, but didn't say anything.
Solomon kissed the top of your head. "I've learned that it isn't very helpful to worry about the future, MC," he said. "And I've never felt more human than I have right now, right here, with you."
Maybe things would change in the future. You couldn't predict the way the tides would turn. But Solomon was right. In a world of magic, demons, and angels, the two of you would always find your humanity in each other. And for now, that was all that mattered.

Goggles and Rider with the prompt: "You can admit you're hurting, you know? It's okay to not be okay."
GORAI <3 as a note, i think the way i write goggles is... different than how people usually write him? mine is more down to earth so uh. lol, be aware of that.
-
He found Rider sitting on the railings outside the Squid Sisters' studio, up on the second floor viewing platform in the plaza.
It was overcast and hazy grey. It was supposed to rain, and most inkfish weren't willing to risk being caught outside. The few who remained outside walked around with umbrellas hooked over their arms. When Goggles stopped to look, Rider didn't have one.
"Hey Rider," Goggles greeted as he drew closer, offering a small smile. Without waiting for a response, he sat down on the platform, letting his legs hang freely off the side of it and resting his arms on the railings Rider was sitting on. "We missed you in turf today."
Rider grunted, but said nothing. He wasn't a talkative person by any means, but he always had at least something to say. The silence now felt wrong.
Goggles looked up at him, taking in the sight of him. Rider wouldn't even look at him, and wasn't even making any efforts to be his usual standoffish self. He just looked upset, in a way that only he could be.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Goggles asked.
Rider huffed out a deep sigh from his nose, and finally, turned his head to look down at Goggles.
"Nothing to talk about," he said, a terse edge in his voice.
Goggles stayed silent at that, looking out over Inkopolis plaza. He wouldn't hesitate to be his usual silly self if Rider wasn't so off. Somehow, he knew acting like everything was fine would serve to tip this delicate situation into something worse.
"That's okay," he said instead. "I can just... stay here with you."
"Do what you want," Rider grumbled, which was about as close to a yes as he was going to get.
Goggles smiled again, scooting a little closer and resting his chin on the fold of his arms. He let his feet swing idle and free over the edge of the platform and gazed down at the plaza. There was hardly an inkfish in sight by now, which probably meant it was going to rain soon. Sliding his phone out of his pocket, he checked the forecast.
"It's about to storm," he said, pocketing his phone and lifting his head. "Specs told me it would before I left home this morning but I forgot so I didn't bring an umbrella."
Rider grunted again, and said nothing.
"Hey," Goggles said, scooting closer again. Gently, he nudged his head against Rider's leg. "If something's hurting you, I won't judge. It's okay to not be okay."
Rider lifted his head to look down at Goggles again. The stoic expression on his face was cracking, but Goggles didn't point it out.
"Just... had a shitty morning," Rider finally said, his voice quiet. "Didn't feel like being around a lot of other people after that."
Goggles nodded, but didn't press for any more details. Instead, he let his head rest against Rider's leg, staring down at the plaza. "I get it. We all have bad days. But, I've always got my friends to get me through it, because I know they care more about me being okay than anything else."
"You suck at being subtle," Rider said, and Goggles shocked himself with a laugh. The yellow-green inkling huffed out a sound that might have been amused, shaking his head. "I'm surprised you even tried."
"Well, I thought you wouldn't like it if I just said stuff the way I normally do," Goggles protested, still giggling despite everything. "I can be blunt if you want."
"I thought being blunt was the only thing you knew how to do," Rider said dryly, and Goggles laughed harder.
"Sorry," the blue inkling wheezed, wiping at his eyes and grinning up at Rider. "I just care about you a lot."
Rider's face twisted up into something funny, and he quickly turned his face away. Goggles had already seen the yellow-green tint in his dark cheeks, though.
"I care about you," Goggles nearly sang, and watched the pointed tips of Rider's ears turn that same yellow-green color too. He nudged the other inkling with a grin and a giggle. "And I'm totally here for you if you're ever feeling not okay."
Rider sighed, lifting a hand to rub at his cheek. He still wasn't looking at Goggles, but Goggles could imagine the flustered expression on his face.
"Thanks," Rider murmured, the tension in his shoulders fading away. He didn't say anything else, but this time, the silence felt right.
Goggles pulled himself up to stand, offering a hand to Rider. "C'mon, we should probably get inside somewhere before it starts raining."
The yellow-green inkling looked at him, a tint of ink lingering in his cheeks. It made the hearts in Goggles' chest flutter.
Rider reached out.

HERE'S THE WHOLE "PUTTING YOUR COLD HANDS ON OBI-WAN'S NECK" PROMPT I THOUGHT OF FOR STAR WARS MONTH WOO. Also I'm definitely going to have the Star Wars month event thingy go into next month, because this month has been busy and tiring so I haven't really gotten out the amount of fanfiction I wanted to. So we're gonna have two Star Wars months here LOL
Up next is the prompt where the reader washes Anakin's hair 🥺
Obi-Wan is so done help him please. I just wanted to get this silly short mini-oneshot out, it's full of dumbassery :D
~Enjoy~

Obi-Wan looked so done.
A few days ago, you had put your cold hands on his neck just to get on his nerves, and the reaction you got embarrassed him to no end. He gave a tiny shiver and dodged forward, shouting your name in disapproval. You laughed, he had a chuckle, of course, because he had figured it was a one time surprise.
He had underestimated how annoying you could be.
It was repetitive, now, putting your cold hands on his neck to warm up and make him sigh in annoyance or tell you firmly to stop.
Today, you were quite horribly bored. Why not go bother him again? It's not like you had anything else to do today. No missions, in fact, it was oddly quiet, which was quite rare.
The joke would certainly get old quite fast, and you did have the feeling Obi-Wan was already sick of it. It's not like he had a say in the matter, of course.
After going out of your way to grab a couple ice cubes from the mini-fridge in your quarters, you left to find the Jedi, for no reason other than to bother the poor man.
Trotting down the halls of the Temple, you at last spotted Obi-Wan. His arms were crossed, his back turned to you, and he was looking up at his Padawan. Whatever Anakin had done this time wasn't your focus, although you took note of his expression, he seemed tired and humiliated with himself. A laugh ought to do the poor thing a bit of good, you thought sympathetically at the sight of Anakin's frown.
You walked silently behind Obi-Wan, although he knew already of your presence and began to turn towards you, while Anakin gave you a mumble of a greeting.
"Surprise." You stated, putting your cold and wet hand on Obi-Wan's neck, making him tense up and shut his eyes. The deep sigh of exasperation was heard, and Anakin knew better to laugh, although he was unable to hold it in after seeing his Master so exasperated.
It wasn't until you cut off Obi-Wan's sentence with a, "Wait!" and made the Jedi look at you like you were crazy that Anakin began to laugh. You had tugged back Obi-Wan's robes and put the melting ice cubes down his bare back, and he immediately yelled your name in protest.
"(Y/N)!" Obi-Wan shouted, looking shocked and almost panicked for a moment as the cold ice hit his back and slid down.
"Stop doing that!" He said sternly, giving you a sharp look of disapproval as he tried to remain composed, like there weren't freezing ice cubes going down his back. Obi-Wan quickly tried removing his robe to get to his first layer of clothing to remove the cubes before they melted even further.
The poor man looked completely annoyed as he saw both you and Anakin laughing together like you'd just seen the best circus show in the galaxy.
Obi-Wan paused, his eyes looking to the side as he thought for a moment. At last, a huff of a chuckle escaped him. How ridiculous was this situation? He'd definitely have to have a talk with you later about pushing his limits. But, for now, he simply let you enjoy your laugh.
The Jedi sighed and shook his head fondly, standing there cold and slightly annoyed but amused, and fond of seeing you and Anakin having a genuine laugh. He rolled his eyes.
"Why am I here, just to suffer?"
~~~~~~~~~~
I was going to do something more romantic at first but I realized that the only correct way to write this was to push Obi-Wan's buttons
Our Songs | pt. 6 | Wendy x F!Reader SM!AU
Tumblr media
Word Count: 2.7k
A/N: I hope the word count marginally makes up for the fact this series has been on a three month hiatus lol, don't worry though it'll finish soon!
Date: 6/10/21
Series Masterlist
Ever since you and Wendy exchanged numbers you find your hand unconsciously reaching out to your phone throughout the day. You hope to find a notification from her when you turn it on. Thankfully she always seemed to respond back, but even when she didn't you'd put your phone down to repeat the loop. You tried your best to make sure it didn't interfere with your work, but still, your day was marked by Wendy. Although she wasn't there physically your conversations always carried through day and night.
You've known her to be a warm person, always friendly and comforting. You hope you're not reading into things too much, but sometimes you read her messages and your heart skips a beat. The way she would talk about you would make you flustered. It would force you to put your phone down for a second, unable to comprehend the positivity. Then the thought that maybe she was flirting would creep into your head.
The idea that you're just imagining things always comes back to fight it though.
Shaking your head you decide not to contemplate the idea further. After all she was going to come over soon and you needed to focus on finishing your songs. Thinking about any possible romantic feelings was the last thing you wanted to do. Especially with her in front of you.
Luckily the thoughts dissipate as you zone into the work in front of you, scrutinizing every detail you possibly could. You let yourself sink into the feeling of the songs, letting it help guide your decisions in mixing. As quickly as you get focused though, you're broken out of your zone when you hear knocking on the door. Before answering you run to the mirror and take a quick look while trying to make sure you look presentable. When you rush up to the door to open it you act like nothing happened.
"H-hello! Welcome again to my humble abode!" You say it with a smile, trying to suppress the sudden fluttering feeling in your stomach.
"Hey!" She says while looking up and down at you. "Looks like we're accidentally matching today, huh?" Wendy walks past the door and you close it behind her. You take a moment to look at her outfit and then at yours. The both of you had a very blue color palette.
"Well, way to steal the spotlight. You look way cuter than me." You don't sound as confident as you'd like, your voice bordering on the softer and quieter side. You realize you haven't felt this nervous in a while.
"As if that could ever be possible!" Wendy turns her head back at you as she walks towards your room. She rolls her eyes and sticks her tongue at you, only to quickly smile at your remark. "Now stop being silly and let's work."
You follow her into your bedroom and sit down in front of your computer. She sits on a familiar stool and the two of you immediately start working. You share what you have so far, all you do is record some more vocals, including harmonies and adlibs. You polish things with Wendy by your side to help make some stylistic choices. It took a few hours that only felt like mere minutes.
The sun is still out, unlike the first time the two of you had worked together. This leads you to ask Wendy something before she would leave.
"While we're here we should just record the collab video, yeah?" Wendy's eyes light up in recollection of your previous conversation.
"That sounds good, how about we do the Q&A type video today? I can just message Yeri for some questions."
"Sure, I'll ask Seulgi to make up some interesting things for us to answer too."
The two of you didn't have to wait long as both of your friends replied fast, excited to help out and excited to have some questions answered. You situate yourself next to Wendy in a comfortable position and get the camera ready. After getting the camera in position you take the time to fix the lighting in your room, making sure to have a soft and natural feeling with the lights.
Finally, the red light begins to blink on your camera and you wave. Wendy follows along and flashes the camera a friendly look. You give a quick introduction for the video.
"Hey everybody! I'm here with Wendy today to do a little Q&A type video for you guys! We've both gotten some questions from our friends and it's just to share a little about us, how we feel about our collaboration, behind the scenes type of stuff, you know?" Wendy tilts her head and looks at you as you talk, nodding to your words.
"I really can't wait to answer these questions with you." She says with a smile. She looks back at the camera as she pulls her phone out and looks at her messages with Yeri. "Neither of us have prepared any script or anything. We've barely even looked at the questions they've sent us!" You nudge Wendy with your elbow and laugh at a thought.
"What if they sent us something inappropriate?"
"Oh god, Yeri totally would." You both giggle before Wendy prompts you to start reading questions first.
"Alright we'll stop wasting our audience's precious time now. My dear Seulgi's first question is… "what were your first impressions?" Wendy doesn't hesitate to answer the question as soon as it was asked.
"Oh! Whenever Y/N entered the café we were meeting in I was kind of surprised! She doesn't post a lot of pics of herself so to see someone as talented as her in real life was an honor. She's really cute, right?" She reaches out to pinch the cheek of your so-called cute face. You strain a smile of embarrassment at her antics.
"Yeah yeah, I don't record myself a lot." When she stops her assault on your face you follow-up with your opinion. "For Wendy… I was also really surprised… I think I'm really lucky. You guys should know that a camera really doesn't do her justice! When I first met her she certainly gave off a very approachable demeanor too."
"Why do you think that?"
"I don't know? I was really nervous meeting you, yet when I saw you and when we got to talk the atmosphere turned into something really comfortable fast. Let's just move on to the next question." You take a look at your phone again to see Seulgi's question. "What's your favorite thing about the other? Well, Wendy has always been so sweet, it's been wonderful working with her. I appreciate the care and dedication to her work that she has shown me. Her musicality really helped pull everything together, and when I was stuck she was always there to give me a fresh perspective."
"Aww, that's so sweet of you." Wendy says with a blush on her face, her hand covering her face as she laughs a bit. "It's strange to be talking to you like this, I feel like. I think you're a really straightforward person but we haven't really talked about our opinions to this extent! Especially to a camera. Ah… well I think I could really say everything the same for Y/N." Wendy nods a bit in thought before continuing on. "To add to it though, I think Y/N has just always been so considerate to me. Like, beyond being a great musician she has been a good person to me. I think if you've seen some of our interactions on Twitter you'll know that she ended up cooking a wonderful meal for me on our first meeting. I think that if she wasn't as nice as she is, we wouldn't have had this much fun together… wait, this has been fun for you too, right?"
"Oh my god, yes it has. How could you doubt that?" You punch her arm with a fake upset face. You turn back to the camera. "Guys, we've hung out and have talked soooo much outside of our collab. I literally don't understand how she can have a single doubt in her mind about us having fun."
"It doesn't hurt to clarify! Anyways, next question now! And stop punching so hard!"
"Oh hush, it wasn't that hard. Oh hmm, to go along with that Seulgi wonders what our least favorite thing about each other is."
"That's an easy one!" Wendy says all too excitedly. You make a shocked expression, worry flooding your system as Wendy points at you with a smile. "I hate how you're absolutely brimming with talent! Your work is impeccable! Musical genius!"
You groan as your body crumples. "You nearly gave me a heart attack…" Your voice is muffled between your knees.
"It's true though!" Wendy says in a sing-song voice, her face smug in satisfaction to see your scared reaction. "Otherwise there's nothing I can really say."
You gather the strength to get back up and face the camera, then Wendy. Your face is still filled with disappointment but you take your time to stare at Wendy. As you stare at her she seems to come undone as she nervously looks away.
"What are you doing?" A red color subtly creeps up her neck.
"I'm just thinking. I'm thinking that… You also have nothing wrong with you." Wendy can't help but to roll her eyes at your comment. "Except for being awfully cheesy. It makes me wanna go bury myself in a ditch so I won't have to hear your stupid cheesiness again."
"Whatever, whatever. It's my turn to read the questions. Now… this is a good one, "what has the work process been like?"
"Well that's obvious, I do all the work and Wendy leeches off of me like a parasite."
"Hey! Just because it's true doesn't mean you have to say it to the world!" Her response throws you into a fit of laughter, turning you into a mess.
"Oh my, no no! It's really not like that. I would say we have an equal workload, or a workload that makes sense between our respective positions." Wendy shakes her head in disagreement.
"I don't feel so. I feel like Y/N always does so much work, and she does it so quickly too. It makes me feel kind of bad when I sit beside her and see her work her magic. When she's focused and working so hard it's quite amazing."
"Ah geez." You shyly scratch the back of your neck. "Wendy's always like this, complimenting me. Like I said earlier though, she really helps bring me new perspective when I'm stuck and her musicality is like nothing else. She always takes the time to sit next to me and monitor things too. It's not like she's a third party to the process. Not only that," You take the time to send Wendy a smile in an attempt to reassure her that you're not burdened with work. You want her to know that you appreciate her part of the creative process, "but nothing really feels like hard work when I'm with you."
Wendy has a hard time processing your words, so instead of addressing it she decides to just further elaborate her answer to the question.
"Well, I'll just lay down the process for everyone. Obviously, Y/N produces and I sing. Although after enough convincing from me you'll hear her singing on the tracks as well, so say thank you! It all started when Y/N took the time to reach out to me, which I was really excited about by the way, and then we both agreed to meet up at a local place. We just talked about concepts and our availability. We both ended up writing songs and worked together on what we wanted to keep or change. Everything productive happens here," Wendy opens her arms to gesture to the area around her, "at Y/N's place. Even though I have audio equipment at my place too we just record things here."
"Yeah, everything she said is true. I have a little set-up here in my room. I don't think I've ever really shown you guys it? I mean, I've shown my guitar collection before but not all my other equipment yet. I'll film that another time though. Next question?"
"Oh this is kind of interesting to think about, "what do you think the reception of your mini-album will be?" The both of you take a moment to think about it. Recalling many of the things you've read on social media you decided to speak first.
"Well, I think it'll be extremely beneficial to the both of us in multiple ways. I mean first off, I guess by our genre of music we have a lot of overlap between fans. There's been an overwhelming amount of support from fans who are excited to see the both of us collaborate and interact. I have no doubt that it'll do well since it's so highly anticipated by our fans. It'll be even better if you guys manage to stream and share it!" Throughout your explanation you begin to give Wendy shy glances. "I think that even if we drop our music and it doesn't meet much success, I would've gained a lot. I think working together with Wendy has helped me grow as a musician and anything that I learn here I will utilize in the future."
At your last comment Wendy seemed to get excited and she quickly added on.
"Exactly! If anything the most important part about all of this is the fact that I have gained skills as a musician and gained a friend. That greatly outweighs any potential of success." Wendy has a bright smile on her face, happy to be able to call you a friend.
"That doesn't mean we don't want you guys to go ahead and share our music by the way." You joke light-heartedly. "It would mean a lot if you did."
"Now final question for this video! We've been talking too much." Wendy looks at her phone, unlike before she takes a couple seconds before reading the question aloud. "Uh, I think this should be fun to answer. "What do you want to do in the future together?" I think that obvious answer is to make more music!"
You chuckle at her answer before responding as well. "Going to each other's places to have a jam session doesn't sound bad, but hanging out in general is good. We'll definitely continue being friends, and if the reception for our collab is really good we might do another one? That is, of course, if Wendy is okay with that."
"I would be more than happy to do that. I was also thinking of forcing you to binge watch more shows and movies with me."
"Only if you stop hogging the popcorn. Anyways, I think this should be the end of our video. I highly encourage all of you to check-out Wendy's channel in a couple days. The day right before release we're going to be dropping one more video together! Bye-bye!" You wave a goodbye to the camera with a smile. Wendy joins you in your outro.
"See you guys soon!"
You go to turn your camera off as Wendy goes to gather her things. After turning off your lights you go to sit back down on your seat, importing the recently filmed footage to your computer. Wendy takes this moment to sit down next to you again.
"Again, thank you for your hard work!" She says it with a smile as she brings her hand on your arm. "I'm always amazed with the quality of your work and how quickly you can do it."
"No problem, I'll send the songs to you later for your feedback. We'll be able to post everything soon." You smile back at her and give her hand a comforting squeeze. A part of you wishes you could keep your hand there forever.
"Alright, well see you at my place soon!"
When you finally hear the click of your door closing you let out a sigh. You don't want to think about it. You don't want to face it.
You don't want to face the possibility that you've fallen.
Thought up another one! How about Shiro teaching Keith how to drive and freaking out in the most hilarious way possible? And Keith is all like, "You went to war! GET A GRIP MAN!" And when it's over Shiro tries to play it off as if he wasn't worried at all. "I wasn't screaming, I was cheering you on there's a difference." But Keith recorded the whole thing because Lance told him he should, having already been there with his own parents. And you can bet he'll be showing it to all of their friends.
Lol, nonny this was so beautiful to read. It had me laughing for a long time before I could even begin writing. Then I was giggling the whole time. I hope my sense of humor is still funny! I think many of us can relate to parents freaking out over new drivers (whether we are the parent or the new driver!). This was great and thank you so much for the prompt! I love you all sending them in! Thanks and I hope you enjoy!
              “Dad,are you ready to go?”
              Shirolooked up from the tablet he was reading on. Red was snoring across his legs;the poor girl was worn out already due to her age and often spent time sleepingon Shiro or Keith. The glasses slid down the bridge of Shiro’s nose when helooked up at his fifteen-year-old son.
              “Forwhat?” Shiro frowned. He didn’t remember making any plans with Keith, not thatit would stop him from making sudden plans now, but usually Keith made plansahead of time. Last minute deals weren’t his style.
              “Todrive? Remember, you said you’d start teaching me on the 11th.That’s today.” Keith resisted the urge to roll his eyes at his father. Of course, he would forget. Silly old man.
              Shiro’seyes widened at Keith’s explanation and suddenly he saw the keys in Keith’shands. Oh. Right. Now Shiro didremember telling Keith that he would help Keith practice his since Keithalready had a permit and knew all the basics.
              Admittedly,Shiro had been putting off actually drivingwith Keith for a few weeks now. But there was only so many excuses Shiro couldkeep giving Keith, every time that he couldn’t drive with his son. Shiro didn’tknow why he was so nervous to drive with Keith. Keith had never given himreason to believe he would be a baddriver, and Shiro knew that his son was one of the most responsible people onthe planet. Though, there was a teeny-tiny bit of influence towards Keith’sdriving, judging by his Mario Kart and racing game skills. Keith wasn’t exactlythe best driver in those games.
              But ofcourse, that had nothing to do with Keith driving in the real world.
              No;absolutely not.
              Thatwould be ridiculous.
              “Ah, ohyeah.” Shiro chuckled nervously and scratched the scar on his nose. He set thetablet down and shifted, causing Red to whine and move into a better positionoff Shiro. Shiro immediately wished the dog had tried to make him stay.
              “Right.Let’s go!” Keith said, eyes bright with excitement and Shiro almost felt guiltyabout his hesitance for letting Keith drive. If he could keep that look ofexcitement on Keith’s face forever, then Shiro would drive with Keith athousand times over. Keith turned out the door and ran to the car in theirdriveway, with Shiro lingering behind wearing a gentle smile.
              Maybe this won’t be so bad.
              Correction: This is bad. This was so bad.
              “Keith,Keith slow down.” Shiro felt his grip on the handle on the roof, tighten untilhis knuckles were white. His entire back was stiff as a board against the seatand his other hand was digging into the material of his jeans.
              “Dad,I’m literally going the speed limit.” Keith huffed from the driver’s seat butslowed down once they came to a stop sign.
              “That’sthe fastest you should be going.”Shiro whispered tightly. “There’s no shame in going slower. Why you go even goabout ten to fifteen below - oh sweet lord!” Shiro’s entire body tensedwhen the car turned sharply to the right and onto a busier road. Keith grinnedfrom where he was seating when he had easily maneuvered into the other lane.
              “Car.Car. There is a car right next to you!” Shiro’s eyes widened when he tried toinform Keith of the car beside their own, when Shiro heard the dreaded noise ofthe blinker being signaled on. That could only mean one dreaded thing.
              Keithwas going to change lanes.
              “I know.I have mirrors.” Keith did, in fact, roll his eyes this time. He waited untilthe car passed by them and switched over in the next lane.
              “Are youchecking all of them? Every three seconds? Make sure you look in the rear-viewmirror.” Shiro swallowed thickly and when he tried to let go of the handle onthe roof, he found that he could not. Instead, his grip tightened once morewhen the speed of the car began to go up.
              “Rememberwhat I said about going below the speed limit? That’s a thing and you can dothat. No shame in it. Keith!” Shirocould feel his heart racing in his chest. He was sure that it was about to jumpout of his throat and out of his body. Shiro didn’t know if he could livewithout his heart. Would Keith have todrive him to the hospital if he had a heart attack right now?
              Would Keith even be able to getto the hospital?
              “Redlights. Keith there are red lights.” Shiro suddenly said, leaning back in hisseat. Instinctively his foot went down to the floorboard as if he wereattempting to hit an imaginary brake. “Red lights!”
              “I cansee dad. And if you could too, you would see we are slowing down to a stop.”Keith muttered under his breath but the car did stop behind another car, with agood distance between them. This didn’t help Shiro to calm down or for hisheart to stop racing in his chest.
              What if this is it? I’d have to make mywill. Make sure Keith doesn’t get this car. Or any car for the matter.
              “Dad I’mturning left here right.”
              “Useyour blinker – holy shit Keith slow down –yes. Stay in your lane. For the loveof god Keith, the furthest lane.” Shiro almost whined and he prayed toanyone listening. I’d leave the house andall of my old belongings to Keith of course. He’d live with mom and dad untilhe was at least 18, but knowing them they’ll keep him around forever.
              “Keith,stop. Oh, my god. You need to goslower, Keith there could be children!”
              “Do yousee any children dad? I’m not even going that fast. Relax.”
              Antok can have my old bike. Ulaz can havethe guns; Keith doesn’t need them. My old bed set can go to Allura. I know she’sbeen eyeing those Egyptian cotton sheets.
              “Children!Keith think of the children. How did you end up like this? I am a goodperson.” Shiro hadn’t even realized that he was slipping back into hisnative language in his panic when Keith took another sharp turn into anotherneighborhood. There weren’t any other cars on the road, but that did nothing toease Shiro’s panic and worry.
              “Doyou see any children? Stupid old man.” Keith muttered back in Japaneseand Shiro gasped loudly.
              “Howdare you insult your father? After risking my life like this?” Shirogripped the handle even tighter when their stop was a bit jerky. Keith snorted,his own hands nearly white as they held onto the steering wheel.
              Keith doesn’t deserve my makeup kits then.Maybe Lance wants them. Or Hunk. They wouldn’t kill me driving. Hopefully.
              “Make aleft here. Keith, I said make a left. Oh lord. You can’t just make asudden turn like that.” Shiro felt his heart slowing. Was this what a heart attack felt like?
              “You can’tjust tell me to turn at the last minute!” Keith argued back and the speed ofthe car increased.
              “I ama good person? At least, I think I am. I know I’ve done wrong but please, I donot deserve this.”
              “Get agrip! You went to war. You were in the army!”Keith shot back when his dad muttered a prayer under his breath. He would laughat how comical the whole situation with his dad was if driving wasn’t stressfulenough. He’d save the laughter for once they got home. Keith looked through thewindow and could see the familiar color of their house just in the distance.When he looked at his dad, Keith saw that his dad’s eyes were shut and didn’tknow how close to the house they were and Keith smirked.
              “Heydad, how about we try the highway! I can get off right here.” Keith joked andShiro’s eyes flew open.
              “KEITHAKIRA SHIROGANE DON’T YOU DARE GET ON THAT HIGHWAY – oh.” Shiro blinkedwhen he realized that they were not getting onto the highway but had parkedright outside their house. He ignored his son, trying to stifle his gigglesafter he put the car in park and turned off the engine.
              For afew more minutes, Shiro sat in silence, waiting for his racing heart to finally calm down while Keith snickered.Shiro eventually, pulled down his hand, only to realize that the handle was inhis hand. He had torn the handle offthe roof. He stared at the broken handle in his hand before looking at Keith,who was silently staring at the handle too.
              Until heburst into uncontrollable laughter.
              “Oh, mygod, you broke the handle?!”
              Shiropouted at his son’s laughter, cheeks dusted red with embarrassment.
              “It wasloose anyway. I needed to fix it. I wasn’t worried at all.” Shiro said cooly,pretending as if he wasn’t having a mental breakdown mere minutes ago. Keithcontinued to laugh even harder and ignored his dad.
              “Youwere practically screaming the whole time.” Keith managed through his gigglesand Shiro huffed before crossing his arms over his chest. He would not be embarrassedby his son.
              “I wasnot, I was simply cheering you on. There is a very big difference.” Shiro saidpointedly and Keith snorted but managed to not burst into giggles again. Hegrabbed his phone which had been sitting in a cup holder between them beforetapping a few buttons on the screen. Shiro frowned and tried to speak only tobe cut off by the sound of his own voice.
              “Useyour blinker – holy shit Keith slow down –yes. Stay in your lane. For the loveof god Keith, the furthest lane.”
              Shiro’sentire face went red and he spluttered in his seat.
              “Youwere recording me?!”
              “Ohyeah.” Keith grinned cheekily and Shiro almost wanted to strangle his son. “Lancetold me to do so, after his parents freaked out when they started teaching himand it was worth it. Wait until everyone hears that the big, bad, fearsomeTakashi Shirogane screamed when he tried to teach his son how to drive.” Keithlaughed and exited the car. Shiro was frozen for a split second as theimplication of the words actually sunk in and his heart raced again.”
              “Oh noyou don’t!” He raced out of the car and after his laughing son. “You give meback that phone! Keith, I am serious; give it to me! Don’t you dare run awayfrom me! Keith! I will ground you until your 80! Keith!”
