Characters of TTK ~ Hasdrubal
As usual Hasdrubal has only one thing to say to an invitation as that. He reaches up to snatch a peach off the tree and drops it at Philip's feet with an audible splat on the pink marble.
"I shall take that as a yes."

Off again - this time to Italy
Mark and I are almost packed and if ONLY Mark felt well, we would be raring to take on our newest adventure - 7 weeks exploring Italy.  But alas, the bug that took me to my knees (and Urgent Care) and has been bothering too many people this holiday season has it’s claws in Mark.  Hopefully, he will be on the road to recovery and will be able to use the long flight to Rome to rest and recover.  :(
Our first adventure will begin in Sicily, where we will start in a B&B owned by a cousin of a dear friend and then join a new group of travel mates on another OAT (Overseas Adventure Travel) tour.  We had the opportunity to speak to our guide, Guiseppe, a week ago and we already know this is going to be a great trip.  To sweeten the pot we taking this tour with very long-time close friends, so a good time is guaranteed.
Our eldest Grandson Kepler is taking an AP World History Class and has been very excited - and amazingly well-informed - about Sicily. (I confess to not being pleased to be the student instead of the teacher - but I’m dealing and pretty proud too.) He will be supplying us with a “must - take” photo list and I can’t wait to share with him what we will see and learn, which will turn out to be a mere supplement to what he already knows, I’m sure.  Carthage and Punic War and Hannibal. Oh my!  And more excitement to come!  So much to see and learn - so little time!!

We will be in Sicily for 2 and 1/2 weeks and then we will head to the mainland and meet up with our nephew and his wife to explore Tuscany and Umbria for 2 weeks.  We will have 2 more weeks on our own after that and we will end up in Rome where we will try to see the Sistine Chapel one more time.
This is NOT the peak season for tourism in Italy - but that is OK with us.  Temps will be in the mid 50s and after the miserable few days of  -2 to 11 F temps in Michigan, the 50s seems glorious to us!  I can always do with less people and cheaper prices.
I have been practicing, practicing and practicing my Italian and while I know that will help, I also know I couldn’t carry on a conversation with even one native speaker.  However, I do know many helpful phrases and - oddly enough - many not so helpful phrases like “My elephant eats rice.” and “My cat is in the shower.” Hmmmm.
So time to finish up the packing and get ready for our next adventure.  I will continue to write letter’s to classrooms sharing our trips and our love of travel and trying to stay connected to our grandkids while we are away.  I will keep my eyes, ears and heart open as we explore another region and culture.
I close entry #1 with my favorite quote from Mark Twain: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”  I wish you all the gift of travel.
Arrivederci
