Growing up is weird

#silver rambles #vent #that post about the ‘how you knew someone else came from money’ is just. sticking with me #mostly cause as a kid I didn’t realize how bad off we were #like. I didn’t realize we got groceries from the food bank run by the church my dad worked at until I was a teen #it just. affected me subtly I guess #being worried about a $2 difference in shoes when I needed new ones because I liked the more expensive ones #and my mom having to convince me that it was fine #it still sticks with me #it’s really hard sometimes to not think about cost if my dad and I go get lunch or something #I’ve never been to another country #meanwhile my friends would go to Rome and Sweden and India and Greece and Mexico for their 12 year old trips #I stayed in the same state for the one with my mom and only went a state over for the one with my dad #but like #yeah. I always sorta knew #I just. couldn’t have told you that I knew #all the little things you didn’t know growing up #I didn’t know about the groceries thing until yeah. hearing about fully adult age difference discourse cracks me up for the very specific reason that when i was 24 i dated someone who was literally twice my age. now, this wasn't ultimately a great idea because it turns out people in different phases of life often want different things, and we ended up breaking up after my parents came to visit and i felt like i should sit at the kids' table, but before that. we got a few slightly-concerned jokes from people, you know, less of the "isn't that a little predatory" thing you'd see on tumblr and more "lol are you a gold-digger for older men" (my guy was living in a studio above the grocery store), but in both cases, no. no, we were actually both morons who each thought the other was in their mid-30s and didn't bother to check until we were like two months in and i said "let's do something fun for my 25th birthday!" and he was like "i'm sorry WHAT" and i said "what?" and he said "i'm turning 50 next month" so anyway,

#i ran out of story that's all there is #he wanted to give up all his worldly possessions and go on a pilgrimage to india #i was like actually i have no worldly possessions to give up yet and i would like to get some #we parted amicably. he was super nice and referred me to another job when i got laid off #it took me 20 minutes just now to remember his name

Thank you for the kind words!! <3 I'm a little flustered, because even with thousands of followers it sometimes feels like im blogging to a quiet room these days - the level of interaction and goofy inside jokes and comments and general friend antics has decreased significantly in the past decade. I think some of this is just us getting older, but tumblr certainly hasnt helped with getting rid of the comments for YEARS and continuously screwing with the tag system. I'm happy to be a postive and entertaining influence though ^_^ (i try to keep all my salty negativity to the messages LOL)

i know for some people, having a story jump from multiple povs, including relatively minor characters, is a bit much and unnecessary to them but i actually revel in it, like it’s one of my most favorite things ever in a book. just depends on the genre, i guess.

#❣️ #i first discovered my love for it in the skybound saga by alex london (that series is EPIC) #and then i fell in love with it even more in the greenbone saga by fonda lee #seeing it here with the nathaniel cade series is like such a huge rush because it just makes things so intense idk how else to explain it rn #it works a lot in fantasy/thriller type stories i think #tal bauer did a stellar job of it as well in ‘stars’ #then there’s also ‘the child thief’ by brom #a much more lighthearted example would definitely be the dangerous damsels series by india holton #all of these books listed here include such a range of different perspectives and #the way these authors utilize it adds even more to the chaos that is the plot #it’s amazing #booklr

I’m gonna scream. I’ve always said it will get to this point. And the time has come

#my mother has been financially irresponsible her whole life #by which I mean. never had a job. got her parents to buy her a house and pay all her bills #was on benefits somehow????? idk how she qualified cos the doctor nvr diagnosed her with anything #she’s the type of person to ask for 6k so she can go to India for half a year to train as a yoga instructor #and promises when she’s back she’ll be working and pay it back #but then asks for money to go to Peru for idk what #and the whole time binning her kids off on other people #like she couldn’t afford to feed me cos she was too busy spending fortunes on obscure medicines she was gonna force me to take instead #and she spent something insane like 60k on some machine that’s supposed to cure anything and everything #she blew through 120k in a few months. cos if she had anything over 16k her benefits got taken away #so rather than live off the money she got rid of it #then she fucked off to Costa Rica thank god cos I don’t risk bumping into her #BUT my family still pay her bills #and send her and my brother money #because my brother is the same #he’ll call up saying he hasn’t eaten for 2 days and has hardly anything for the kids #and then he’ll get sent money #and buy wagyu steak and £400 samurai swords #and then a few days later say “I’m hungry again #and is also committing benefit fraud by claiming he still lives here but lives in America instead #and is 29 and never worked a day #anyway the day has come. #start of this month my grandparents said help we have no money in our account because of paying your mothers bills #and I sent them £600 #which was my whole bonus #and I also had to pay the council £630 #and then my mother called up again. she’s gone on holiday somewhere but she’s fucked cos she had nothing in her account so cant eat #she’s bone thin as it is so my family wouldn’t risk not feeding her #and it’s the second time this month my apparently rich grandparents have asked for money #cos my mother and brother are entitled leeches
