To those complaining that the word ‘dracarys’ is being used to much in the show, I’d like to point out that the word literally means ‘dragon-fire’ in Valyrian. It is the word they use to tell their dragons to breathe fire lol. We’re going to have a BUNCH of dragons in this show -- so, you’re going to hear it multiple times in the future.

The first time Allicent felt anything besides hatred towards one of Rhaenyra's bastards was when she noticed Lucerys picking at his fingers.

She's so focused on Lucerys that she didn't realize he had company until someone took his hands.

Aemond was there.

He said something to Lucerys that seemed to calm him down and then went back to reading their books quietly.

They continued holding hands.

GENERAL THOUGHTS AFTER HOTD EPISODE 5

Rip Rhea Royce I just know that you were not hetero and tbh you showed up, insulted daemon’s virility, and immediately died and that was a pretty iconic character arc if you ask me

Laenor and Rhaenyra agreeing to have an open relationship and becoming friends and allies! We love to see it!

Joffrey talking about seeing the tournaments when Rhaenyra becomes Queen… oh my sweet summer child you shall never see them for so many reasons

But also I love that we got a little of his and Laenor’s relationship before his death

Ser Criston- bro?!?! Did you really think she was going to marry you?! What drug is this man on and where can I get some

Allicent sweetheart wtf was that skirting around the question? Just ask if Rhaenyra fucks!

But also I was very confused like did she understand that Criston and not Daemon slept with Rhaenyra? Because if so, why was she so pissed?? Like either its just a miscommunication situation, which is so dumb, or she understood that Rhaenyra didn’t lie to her so like… is she just jealous that Rhae slept with anyone?! So many questions.

The entrances. Good GOD they all slayed. The Velaryons win for having a whole ass routine and theme going on, Daemon wins for never listening to his weak ass brother and just showing up to cause chaos, and Alicent wins for badass moment and prettiest dress (well tied with Laena) because I just love that color green okay??

Rhaenyra and Laenor would definitely come across like they are a little in love to anyone who doesn’t realize because their shared excitement over their agreement and future plans was so cute. Like they seemed genuinely excited to be partners in secrets.

The dancing was SO FUN and Harwin just very subtly being the one dancing with Rhaenyra the most was great. She always seemed to be smiling or laughing in the brief scenes of them dancing together, and I’m just so glad she has him!!

The set up for Daemon and Laena was also great! Him clearly still prioritizing Rhaenyra but also noticing and being very much interested in Laena is fantastic development imo

THAT GRIP THOUGH. Like my Queen really taunted him and basically begged him to whisk her away and marry her and the way he gripped her face did not need to be so hot. I said it and I meant it.

HARWIN STRONG I LOVE YOU ugh him literally fighting his way over to Rhaenyra then throwing her over her shoulder like it was nothing was just chefs kiss

Rip Joffrey, you deserved to get to live your dreams of being in tournaments and fucking the king consort. Gone too soon

Fuck Ser Criston Cole. I do like that they made it about his “honor” or whatever as well, but it really mostly gave off the vibes of him throwing a temper tantrum just because he didn’t get what he wanted

I did love that Laena was also fighting to get to Laenor. Their bond is great and I hope we get to see them and Rhaenyra and Daemon grow closer!

Poor Laenor. The gays did not do well this episode methinks

Allicent Hightower

She married the King, gave him a bunch of kids, and usurped the throne for her eldest son causing a massive conflict throughout the kingdom and leading to the death of the dragons and destruction of the royal family in the next 100 years. God forbid women do anything. Seriously though, her husband didn’t respect her and she had been given reason to believe that the original heir would murder her kids so she made the decisions she made out of love and fear after being forced into a shitty position by her father and her husband. She gets involved with some not great people and does some not great things in the name of securing allies and support for her faction but I adore her and I’m tired of seeing people treat her like scum of the earth and a devil. Her husband is right there and her murdered his first wife and then married his daughter’s best friend and his cowardly neglect of his family is the real start of the conflict over the throne. Literally nothing Alicent does can top that.

Second wife of the King of Westeros, who is old enough to be her father. She prioritizes the safety of her children over everything else and because of this she attacks and usurps the heir (2 separate events). She is scrambling for stability for her family in a succession crisis that began the second her dumbass husband decided to marry her. The amount of gross misogynistic comments people make about her simply because she is a woman in one of the more misogynistic societies in mainstream media doing her best to conform and survive is sickening. Not to mention the hate she gets for working against the fandoms favorite “feminist girlboss” character. Her actions are always getting misrepresented and exaggerated to make her seem worse. Anything good she does is ignored and anything bad she does is twisted and manipulated. Free my girl she didn’t do any of that. She did do other stuff though. And she looked good doing it.

Apple White

everyone shut up about her being evil and selfish she is a teenage girl who has been raised HER WHOLE LIFE with this ideology, she can’t unlearn her entire belief system overnight especially when it’s so deeply tied to her identity as a person. also she literally does let go of it eventually, because she’s not a static character, she has an arc. apple is my favorite because she’s complex, not in spite of it. on the flipside there’s the people who act like she didn’t do anything wrong. i’ve seen people call raven the selfish one? this show was made for 5 years olds. how do you have less media comprehension that a 5 year old. and also, you’re loving apple the wrong ways!! she makes mistakes. she fucks up so much, and it’s awesome. i get overcompensating because the haters are so loud or whatever, but saying she’s perfect is erasing what makes her interesting. this propaganda is not very good because I’m guessing a lot of propaganda looks identical (edelgard and vriska have similar issues in fandom spaces) so here is my final pitch. vote for apple because she’s a lesbian (her canon soulmate was a girl). vote for apple because she’s a protagonist in a kids cartoon who was a lesbian way back in jan 2016. vote for apple because mattel let the face of their new franchise be a girl who likes girls (still feels surreal)

Lucerys "Pretty Boy" Velaryon stopped the Dance of the Dragons by annoying, flirting and then marrying Aemond Targaryen.

He gave his Uncle Aegon love and attention, reminding him of all the fun times they had as children. Lucerys became a soft spot for his Uncle Aeg.

He easily won over Queen Allicent once she realized that all her children were happy. All of them shined whenever Lucerys was involved and let the Seven help whoever hurts or makes Lucerys cry.

He didn't need to win over Heleana, they've been friends since they were children. Heleana liked having Lucerys help watch her children with her. Plus she loves seeing that funny look on Aemond's face whenever he sees Lucerys with children.

The three Targaryen children were a united front when it came to Lucerys Velaryon. Something that no one saw coming. Except for Heleana.

man as much as i'm team black in this, the show runners are doing a great job of making alicent a sympathetic character. even as time has passed, she's clearly still in love with rhaenyra. her life as queen is so dreary and loveless, and her marriage has none of the intimacy she had with rhaenyra. and her anger and jealousy when confronting rhaenyra about daemon? it was a lot less 'but your honor' and a lot more 'i waited for you and you took someone else'.
