i need to talk about laenor for a minute
"he was happy!" "ha wanted to leave his family!"
mmmm are you sure?
because in ep 6 he wants to leave KL, yeah, but he def does not want to disappear. he wants to join his family in the stepstones. he's tired, he's done. he has "played his part". was he really that happy with his modern family in KL? because it sure didn't sound like it when rhaenyra has to command him to stay by her side because she needs him to keep covering up for her.
when rhaenyra and daemon had that convo in ep 6 when rhaenyra wanted to have laenor killed and daemon convinced her to give him a choice.
the choice was go away or we'll kill you.
they actually went to laenor on his sister's funeral, when his family needed him the most and made him leave. laenor wanted to leave KL to join his family in the stepstones. he never wanted his family to think he's dead, especially not when they've just lost laena.
and that plot makes 0 sense because if laenor ever comes back rhaenyra and daemon will be branded as liars and traitors & their children will be declared as illegitimate. not to mention, if rhaenys and corlys ever find out about what they did their alliance is over. like rhaenys will literally burn them. the fact that they knew how much corlys and rhaenys suffered and still chose not to tell them about laenor is so messed up.

Being  Corlys’ Bastard Daughter in a  Secret Relationship with Rhaenyra Would Include...
Tumblr media
I started writing this weeks ago and recently finished. Kinda went ham on it, sorry if it got too long! I’m also working on fics about this concept so stay tuned. Also spoilers for House of The Dragon up to episode 7, Driftmark. Hope ya’ll enjoy!
• You were Laenor and Laena’s half sister, since you were Corlys’ bastard daughter but you were legitimized in his eyes once you came into adulthood.
• Rhaenys accepted you with open arms, seeing you as a daughter just as she saw Laena and Laenor as her children respectfully.
• You didn’t care much for lady-like duties, choosing to chase behind Laenor and the other knights of your house to train in sword and shield. Corlys had his issues with it of course, but as long as you did what you could to keep up appearances, he was fine. Rhaenys was there to teach you all about being a lady, while sharing much of the fierceness a Targaryen could hold.
• Like Laenor, you had different tastes to what was expected of you.
• You much preferred the company of the ladies of court as your father frequented Kings Landing as King Viserys’s master of ships. Being around other ladies of court wasn’t frown upon much, you were safe from rumors, unlike your brother Laenor, it was easy to navigate yourself through your specific tastes since close bonds between women of the court were common.
• It remained common as you could keep them, a few lingering smiles here and a few compliments there, until you met the crowned Princess herself, Rhaenyra Targaryen.
• She was betrothed to your brother Laenor but he didn’t see her like that, yet you did. The Princess noticed you, and complimented you accordingly:
“You’re just as pretty as your brother, Lady Y/N,” Rhaenyra said before kissing your hand.
• Laenor may have been her betrothed, but Rhaenyra spent much time with you: listening of your tales amongst the sea with your father while Rhaenyra told you stories of dragons, even mentioning that she’d like to take you on the back of Syrax if you’d like to.
• During Laenor and the Princess’s wedding, the both of you kept running into each other on the dance floor. Her eyes tracing your body as she moved from man to man, attention on the way the music took you.
• Kept a close eye on you until the violence began, going straight towards you, keeping you safe through all of chaos.
“I need to find my brother!” you said.
Rhaenyra shook her head, hands still holding yours.
“I must protect you for him, my lady.”
• You knew you had feelings for the Princess after she married Laenor. The ten years away from her while she was in Kings Landing and you on Driftmark made you crave for her presence again. So you wrote to her, along with Laenor and Laena, respectively as she was in Essos.
• Rhaenyra oft wrote back, telling of her children and how much she missed you. She detailed your beauty in her letters, joking about how she’d rather be the wife of another Velaryon than your brother.
• You gushed at the letter once it got to you, thinking over a fortnight of what to say back to the Princess. It was treason and down right wrong to think of Rhaenyra in a nonplatonic way yet the Princess’s words drew you with so much tenderness inside.
• Rhaenyra’s letters kept arriving, wondering when you’d get back to her: both physically and by letter. You didn’t mean to leave her in the dark, but after hearing about her relations with Harwin and how she adored him saddened you. You wished to be the sole love she adored.
 • You didn’t write her back until Laena’s death, pouring out everything you thought for her and the hate you felt for Laena going off with Daemon to Pentos, for making Rhaenys a wreck and making your father quiet, so much so that he didn’t talk much until the funeral.
• You and Laena weren’t the closest, yet she always made an effort to understand you the most, boasting that the blood of old Valyria was still strong in you, whether you weren’t full Velaryon or not. She never looked down or joked about your preferences, encouraging it along with Laenor.
• Laenor took Laena’s death the hardest though. You tried sticking by his side during the funeral, trying not to crack under your uncle Vaemond’s words of Velaryon blood, glancing at Rhaenyra’s own boys and you. It made it hard for you to handle your grief when anger bubbled inside, forcing you to clutch your hands tightly that red nail marks carved at your palms.
• Rhaenyra noticed however, prompting her youngest son there, Lucerys to comfort you in some way. The boy reluctantly looked to his mother, than to you before bounding over (thanks to a stern, yet easygoing nod from Rhaenyra) and taking one of your clasped hands into his tiny one.
• Your wall of rage tumbled just a bit, breaking your intense focus to see your nephew staring with wide eyes, steady and ready to bolt back to his mother and father if things grew awry. All you wanted was some one there who understood your pain, your rage, your heartbreak. You knew of the rumors, you may have been away from court but the gossip always ran throughout the seven kingdoms. The words bastard and Strong thrown around carelessly of Rhaenyra’s boys so much so that you felt terrible for them or even considering the truth that they weren’t Laenor’s boys.
•Whether they truly had the “saltiest and thickest Velaryon blood” didn’t matter, even though  you were a Velaryon in Corlys’ eyes, yet in other members of the house’s eyes you were still the Sea Snake’s bastard daughter. A title you could never escape from. You didn’t know what Lucerys went though but you held his hand anyway, pulling him close for a hug. You may not know what the boy went through but it had to be something similar to your own strive.
•The boy hesitated but returned it immediately, clutching onto you for the rest of your uncle’s speech. You felt loved, you may have only met your nephew but you could tell Rhaenyra and Laenor loved and raised him decently so far.
“I-Is aunt Y/N all right?” Jacaerys asked as he approached you and Luke, holding his mother and father’s hands.
Luke glanced up at you expectantly, hugging into your side, as if asking his brother’s question a second time.
“Y-Yeah,” you said. Your voice rough but you tried your best in sounding all right. “T-Thank you for worrying about me, boys.”
Rhaenyra met your eye as you ruffled the boys’ hair, totally not buying your words at all.
“Laenor, take the boys to bed, please?” Rhaenyra said. She patted your brother’s arm before continuing. “I’ll be along shortly.”
Laenor seemed just as worn out as you, doing what his wife told was simple yet he still was rather sluggish in taking Jace and Luke’s hands, leaving you and Rhaenyra alone.
 • Rhaenyra drew closer and like her son, she was cautious of touching you.
“Alicent, and her father have been watching me,” she said as she glanced past and beyond you discreetly. “Walk with me to the beach?”
“Have I some how entered your circle of rumors, Princess?” you said.
Rhaenyra smiled weakly. “Something like that, my lady.”
  • Once you walked enough of the beach and nightfall began to cover you both thanks to the decline of the sun, Rheanyra took you into her arms, wrapping you close by the waist.
• Her touch. Finally feeling her skin, her warmth for over ten years made the emotions bubble up in you yet again as tears flowed from you.
“I’m here,” Rhaenyra whispered. She pressed a hand to the back of your head. “I-I’m so sorry, Y/N”
You held onto her, crying into her chest, babbling about everything you held against you for the past ten years.
“I-I don’t know what to do,” you sobbed. “With Laenor being your king consort and Laena dead, I possibly couldn’t be Lady of Driftmark or Lady of the Tides as a--”
Rhaenyra took your face before you could even say the word bastard. Through your tear stained eyes you saw her own crestfallen expression, water clinging to her own eyes.
“You are a true Velaryon,” Rhaenyra declared. “It may not be official but I promise as queen you will be. It will be my first act.”
• The Princess then kissed you, hard, fierce and fiery as kissing a Targaryen should be. You shivered in her arms thanks to the brisk air Driftmark held, especially close to the sea as night continued to crawl through the final peaks of sun.
  • Rhaenyra’s hands traveled over your waist, holding you as if you’d sail away at any moment, ship off for another ten years.
“Come with me, us to Dragonstone,” Rhaenyra said. Desperation written on her face as she panted from your previous make out. “Be my lady in waiting, my sworn sword, I don’t care I-I just need you with me!”
The words “sworn sword” hit you in a sour way.
“Like your former? He’s replaceable? W-Would I be?” you said.
Rhaenyra’s grip on your sides grew rough; you gasped at the slight pinch in pain as she pulled you to be inches from her lips again.
“I loved Harwin, he can never be replaced,” she said, solidifying your worries. “But he isn’t you. A-And what I feel for you isn’t quite the same as I had with him.”
You shook your head, speaking the truth of the rumors.
“You’d have children with me?” you said. “I-If we could?”
“I would and more, you’d be my Queen consort instead of your brother,” the Princess responded cheekily.
• The both of you shared more kisses, along with touches that lingered. Rhaenyra wanted to go further, you both did but the lost of loved ones sought you both against it for now.
• When you both found Jace, Luke, Baela and Rhaena bloodied from their scuffle with Aemond, you immediately formed a shield around all your nieces and nephews with Corlys, Rhaenys and Rhaenyra.
• Luke clung to you instantly as Alicent tried attacking the boy, almost cutting you if Rhaenyra didn’t stop the mad Queen first.
  • When Alicent cut Rhaenyra, you were at the Princess’s side but not before Luke scurried to her left, you to her right. You held her as she bled, immediately calling for a maester for not only Rhaenyra’s wounds but for that of your nephews and nieces as well.
• You stayed by her side as the maesters stitched her arm. Luke clung to you again, asking his mother if she was all right while Jace held your other hand. Rhaenyra reassured him with a kiss on the forehead before doing the same to Jace.
“You boys have cause a lot of trouble tonight. Now go off to bed, for real this time,” Rhaenyra said.
Her boys did what they were told but not before hugging Rhaenyra then you as well.
• Rhaenyra began to notice how much her boys got attached to you, especially Luke and deemed you as a second mother to them after your permanent stay on Dragonstone, and having them squire under you and Laenor.
• You became a quasi mentor to your nephew Luke, since he’d inherit Driftmark as Lord of the Tides. Of course he had trouble getting seasick but you still reassured him that he’d make a fine Lord of the Tides and helped him during short sea trips from Dragonstone to Kingslanding to help him adjust to life on the sea.
• Rhaenyra would always fly over with Syrax to ensure that the both of you arrived and departed safely.
• She always welcomed you with a tight embrace, checking over you as soon as she was done ensuring Luke was in one piece.
•  Rhaenyra always found time to be alone with you, always thanking you for being amazing with her boys and always made sure you felt all right here with this family she cultivated on Dragonstone.
“I hope you feel a part of this family as much as I believe you are,” Rhaenyra said while she held your hand. She cuddled next to you while she played with the braids of your silver hair. “Have ever I told you how beautiful your hair is?”
You grew sheepish at her words, especially at the mention of being her family, finally a part of her life and finally able to be with her.
“You really see me as your family?” you said as you tucked yourself against her chest. “What does that make me? Secret lover to the heir apparent?”
Rhaenyra shook her head and gave you a deep kiss.
“You will be my only sole lover, Y/N Velaryon, a true Lady of Driftmark right next to the Queen of the seven kingdoms.”

I really don't understand the writer's reasoning for race swapping the Velaryon's, when every Velaryon is mistreated or cast aside by the all white Targaryen's. Literally everyone of them.
• Corlys - Is apparently so selfish he's willing to disregard all of his blood related family to put a white boy that is no relation to him on his ancestral seat just because he carries his last name? Even though there's plenty of other actual Velaryon's that carry the Velaryon name.
• Vaemond - Gets murdered for telling the truth, and not wanting Driftmark to go to someone who isn't a true Velaryon. I think they only added him calling Rhaenyra a whore after calling her son's bastards to try and make his death justifiable, as if calling someone a bad name = off with his head.
• Laena - Is married to Daemon but knows that she isn't his first choice, and if he had his way he'd be with his (white) niece. Is stuck by his side in Pentos even though he knows she wants to return home. Supposedly dies a *badass* dragon rider death, but I just saw a pregnant black woman dying in agony. Like that doesn't already happen in real life when black women are four times more likely to die in childbirth.
• Laenor - The cuckold of all cuckolds. In almost every scene of adult Laenor he's completely miserable. And apparently he too is willing to disregard all his trueborn family to put a white boy that isn't his on the Driftmark throne. And I don't find Rhaenyra to be some great LGBTQ ally by "letting" Laenor run away and permanently leave his home and family behind so he can be with his partner and she can remarry.
• Baela and Rhaena - Have actual Velaryon blood through their mother, get passed over so another white boy can get something he has no entitlement too. Baela would have had a slim chance of ending up queen because even if Rhaenyra became queen, the lords of Westeros would have been very unlikely to accept an illegitimate son as her heir. Rhaena could become lady of Driftmark but only as a consort through Luke, meaning if he died her claim to Driftmark would die with him.
I'm all for diversity and representation, but was the family who consistently gets walked all over the best choice to make POC?
I think they were aiming for liberal and inclusive, but that doesn't really work when your white characters use and exploit the black characters you've purposely made black.

What if Luke took over Daenerys’ place, but make it HOTD?
****Like most of my stories/headcanons, this will be ABO!!!!
The Greens win the civil war, and all of the Blacks perish, except for three; Viserys II, Aegon III, and Lucerys. Unfortunately, they spend months trapped in the Red Keep, paraded around by the Greens for their own amusement and pride. Aemond had taken Luke’s dignity in front of the court in a mock bedding ceremony.
Lucerys gets pregnant, and long into his pregnancy, about five more weeks before the expected due date, he is attacked by guards under the orders of Aegon II, and lost the babe. Once again in front of the court, Luke is shamed and made fun for it with his brothers in his arms. Aemond, over and over for a year and a half, attempted to get the former prince of the Realm pregnant, but the stress and humiliation kept killing off the babes
However, Corlys was able to find a way to get them out, and directed them to a set of islands he once came across during his travels as a budding man, and advised them to escape and set a home for themselves there
Soon, the trio were able to flee to said abandoned archipelago far off from any other country, and take residence there. The islands were once great with ties to Old Valyria, and was a safe house - well, a castle carved deep into the island’s mountains - for dragon eggs and knowledge of Old Valyria which were all frozen and kept in (semi-)safe conditions by the ones who once guarded them
With Luke being a prodigy at Valyrian thanks for Rhaenyra and Daemon, he deciphers all he needs to know from the texts, and reads them as bedtime stories for his brothers. Thus, the siblings start to learn and conduct experiments from the books containing Old Valyria’s magic - the same magic Queen Visenya was said to have involved herself with before and in the reign of King Aegon Targaryen, First of His Name and even after his demise
Luke then finds three dragon eggs, and puts them over a fire in one of the many rooms in the castle carved within the island. Months have passed, and Luke was now nearing nineteen when the eggs hatched, with all three dragons immediately bonding with Lucerys.
Aegon the Younger, gonna call him Egg here to make it easier to tell which Aegon I’m talking about, and Viserys II, who I’m gonna call Vis for the same reason, aren’t jealous, and are rather ecstatic as it meant they had some protection.
The dragons consists of a silver-purple female named Silvermoon, another reddish female named Ruby, and a bronze scaled male named Ashe. While all three dragons are bonded with Lucerys, they do still find fondness over Egg and Vis. Egg and Ashe are close despite his initial distrust due to his witness of Sunfyre burning his mother. Vis and Ruby often nap and eat together, along with playing with one another to the joy of Lucerys. Silvermoon and Luke are each other’s anchors when their siblings are out playing or hunting.
As the years pass, the three surviving members of the Blacks continue to live in peace and happiness.
Back in Westeros, the Greens have found themselves in quite the predicament; With the dragon eggs soon going cold, their only living dragon being Vhagar, and with their increasing unpopularity with the townsfolk and pressure and claims of promises they must fulfill from the Lords of Houses who sided with them, they knew it was the start of their fall from grace. The Greens pretty much walked so the Lannisters from GOT could run.
About three or four years have passed since the Dance. And Luke is suddenly met with a fleet from House Greyjoy, led by the Red Kraken, Dalton Greyjoy himself.
The man was sailing his ships, raiding villages and taking treasure when he comes upon Luke and his brothers’ island home. When Luke comes to deal with him alone, Dalton threatens to finish what the Greens have started, before Luke calls for his dragons and brothers to spearhead a surprise attack on the Greyjoy Fleet.
Luke had seen the fleet from the horizon sailing for them, and immediately sprung himself, his brothers, and his dragons to action. With three medium sized dragons, not even fully done growing yet, and two extremely peeved and held back boys, who know Black Magic mind you, now allowed to go wild caused his men some arms and legs and even their lives, so Dalton halts his forces and attempts to broker a deal; If Luke lets the Greyjoy men safely go, he’ll make sure the island knows no suffering or pillaging or death.
Luke agrees, but when Dalton is about to board the ship, the former prince stops him, and says that the deal only secured the safety of the men under the Red Kraken’s command, and not the Kraken himself.
Amused by his trickery, Dalton surrenders to staying behind, but does make a small adjustment to allow him letters and occasional visits from his people to keep them in check.
A year passes, and the Red Kraken and Blue Dragon fall head over heels together, and marry in the ways of Old Valyria and of the Drowned God. They consummate their marriage in their own section of the castle, with the other sections lived in by the dragons, Egg, and Vis.
Nine months later, Luke pops out twins; an Omega girl named Rhaelys and an Alpha boy named Rhaemon.
The islands Luke had taken up residence over soon had a small port and villages containing wayward travelers, outcasts and those exiled start popping up, and the Greyjoy Fleet, and soon the Ironborn, named the place Dragonborne Islands - the Isles that Birthed Dragons.
House Stark and Arryn soon catches wind of Luke, Egg, and Vis’ existence, and secretly sail to meet with them. At first, the family of four, with the twins protected by Ruby, and two active dragons were prepared to burn the ships down, but it wasn’t long before they welcomed and brought inside for talks.
House Stark and Arryn still remember their oath to Rhaenyra Targaryen, and their promise to see a Black on the Iron Throne. They remember every slight against them by the Greens and their allies, and wish revenge for both their disgraced Houses and for Rhaenyra Targaryen and her line.
Lucerys, at first refuses, but after some prodding and convincing from Egg and Vis, who both do still feel bitter about their beloved mother’s harrowing and disgraceful death and the trauma the Greens inflicted on both them and their big brother, Lhke agrees to lead a charge to take back the Iron Throne.
Of course, his husband Dalton Greyjoy is most certainly happy to participate - the same could be said for House Stark and Arryn.
Corlys Velaryon hadn’t died yet, and was still living large, and when he was sent a letter by House Greyjoy, informing him of his grandson’s plans, he jumped to the chance to join them immediately. The man abandoned his Driftmark Throne, and sent his entire fleet to the aid of Prince Lucerys Velaryon of the Dragonborne Islands.
The same could be said for Nettles, whom sought revenge for the death of Daemon Targaryen by the hands of the cowardly and weak Greens.
Soon, the Greens are informed by Larys Strong of the uprising far off the shores of Westeros.
That Prince Lucerys Velaryon is alive and well, and is sailing and marching to take back his due.
With the support and backing of the great Houses of Velaryon, Greyjoy, Arryn, and Stark.
With the knowledge of old and ancient, powerful and dark, glorious magic and scriptures of Old Valyria.
And with the strength and might of three dangerous and prime dragons, whom laid an active clutch for Viserys II and the Twins of Lucerys, and the additional war-hardened dragon Sheepstealer with his bloodthirsty rider.
Across the seas and across the lands, in uncharted territory and in front of his people, surrounded by relics of a past great Kingdom,
Lucerys Velaryon of House Targaryen, First of His Name - the Velaryon Pearl, the Mother of Dragons, the Blue Targaryen, Lord of Dragonborne, Wife of the Red Kraken, the Unbroken - named himself King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm on his throne of Old Valyria.

Thinking about Alicent and and Visery’s wedding day.
Everyone in the realm is set to attend the kings wedding. The expectation to put on a happy face is high, but everyone loved aemma and it hasn’t even been a full year since her death. Rhaenyra has to attend of course but she’s loathing every second of it and makes it known to everyone, especially Alicent. Corlys and Rhaenys don’t even attend and it’s a huge point of gossip. Even worse is that daemon *does* attend and makes things so much worse by the drinking and loud complaining he does. Viserys at first tries to curb his attitude but eventually gets worn down (and they later get so drunk together you’d think it was someone else’s wedding) and eventually just lets him run loose. The gossip between attendees is insane. Alicent is more alone and younger than she has ever felt in her life, wearing a wedding dress that is both too big and far too suffocating for her. When Otto sees her ready for the ceremony he’s painfully reminded of his own wife and has no words for his young daughter he’s about to give away. She holds her breath as if waiting for a final moment where he says she won’t have to go through with it, that he loves her, that it’s all a bad dream, but all he says as he offers his arm is ‘the kingdom is waiting’. Rhaenyra doesn’t look at her through the entire ceremony despite the desperate looks she sends her way. Alicent wears gloves to hide her bleeding fingers but speckles of red show through the fabric as she takes her new husband to be’s hand before the sept.
When it’s time to consummate the marriage later that night she bleeds and bleeds and bleeds on the marital bed and Viserys doesn’t stay the rest of the night

one of my fav scenes in F&B is corlys calling Rhaenyra out for not participating in any actual battle for her throne :
"When word reached Dragonstone that Princess Rhaenys had fallen, angry words were exchanged between the queen and Lord Velaryon, who blamed her for his wife’s death. “It should have been you,” the Sea Snake shouted at Her Grace. “Staunton sent to you, yet you left it to my wife to answer and forbade your sons to join her.”

Rhaenys & Corlys being physically in sync
a lovely gifset request by @youleavethetardisbrakeson I had fun making this and I remember about a week ago I had the scene in the third gif on a loop cause I thought it was so satisfying that they moved so in sync while looking in completely opposite directions. These are the three examples I could find so hopefully I didn’t miss one (if I did please let me know) and I might do a Steve & Eve on in the future since you mentioned it <3

You know what? I hate Viserys and Velaryons more than the Greens. The greens were Rhaenyra's enemies. She knew it, we knew it. And Viserys( her own father!) and Velaryons were supposed to be on her side! But they destroyed her life just like the Hightowers did! That's why I can't stand them.

I get the Otto hate, I do, he's like 88% cunt 12% bitch, but why is that same hatred not directed at Corlys as well? They're both politically minded, and offered up their daughters to the king, why is one better than the other?
They both wanted their young daughter to marry Viserys, a man old enough to be their father, so they could become Queen. They both had the Iron Throne in their sight, and Corlys actually had a low key tantrum when Viserys chose not to marry a 12 year old Laena.
Otto was a plotter and a schemer, he wanted his grandson on the throne no matter what, but if Viserys had married Laena, do people really think Corlys would have accepted a grandson of his being passed over in favour of Rhaenyra either?
Corlys, who has one of the biggest ego's in the whole show, who consistently brings up the fact his wife Rhaenys should have been Queen. Who went behind the kings back to involve Daemon in the war at the Stepstones after Viserys declared his intent to marry Alicent instead of Laena?
He would have done everything in his ability to get his grandson declared heir over Rhaenyra, just like Otto. But Corlys would have had a lot more power than Otto, as Lord of Driftmark, the husband of a dragon rider and commander of the Velaryon fleet.
Their actions and motives aren't that different, but they're viewed completely different for some reason.
