Byler Analysis: Mike’s phone calls.
This analysis is going over why Mike’s phone calls were, without a doubt, for Will. Bylers have been talking about this for months now, but I’ve compiled all the evidence I could find.
So, to start us off...
Hawkin’s Lab is owned by the ‘Department of Energy’, which according to Mike, Ted has said is Government/The Military.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In S1, the main antagonists in regard to Hawkins Lab were Connie Frazier and Dr. Brenner. However, by the season finale, Connie was killed by Eleven and Dr. Brenner’s status was unknown.
With the two of them out of the way, we are introduced to Dr. Sam Owens in S2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, whether or not Owens is truly trustworthy or not is a whole other can of worms, but for the sake of this analysis, we will follow his introduction as an ally to the Byers-Hoppers. He was the primary doctor looking after Will and investigating what was going on with him when he was possessed by the Mindflayer. S2 concludes by letting us know that Owens has pulled some strings to give Eleven a new identity and thus a new life: that of JANE HOPPER.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Owens recommends to Hopper that Eleven should lay low for about a year before living freely, as a PRECAUTION (since, like he said before, ‘those people’ aka the bad ones, are gone), but overall, things are safe enough that Owens even approves of Hopper letting Eleven go to the Snow Ball.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S3 starts in June 1985, about six months after S2, which means Eleven’s year of laying low isn’t done yet. But since Owens is in charge of the lab, Eleven and Mike can call on the phone. We also see them using walkie-talkies, so I’m assuming that they don’t call that often as a precaution as well, but they can do it as long as it’s not too frequent.
It is important to note that the lab was not the main antagonist in neither S2 nor S3 (It was the Mindflayer & Russians respectively).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eleven can even afford to go out a couple of times to the mall with Max without consequence at all. It isn’t until things get bad enough with the ‘flesh flayer’ that the military immediately steps in to cover it all up (and despite their best efforts, the town is still suspicious).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Owens is FIRED at the end of S3 as a consequence of the mall “fire”. This is significant because it means that he no longer holds the power to protect Eleven. Still, he managed to use his contacts (which include allies like Ellen, Wallace, and Hamon) to relocate Eleven + the Byers to Lenora and look after them very discretely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because of this plan, Eleven is safe in Lenora enough to go out and have a life as Jane Hopper. However, that plan does NOT include calling Hawkins as that would be FAR TOO RISKY.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She cannot call or be called from Hawkins as it is no longer just a precaution, like when Owens recommended Eleven to lay low for a year, just in case. Now, her staying away from Hawkins (which includes calling there since the phone-lines are tapped) is a NECESSITY for her long-term survival since the cover story is that ‘Eleven is dead’.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Powell’s call about Chrissy’s murder is enough to immediately summon Sullivan to investigate and pin the murders on Eleven. He even tells Owens that there are rumors of her being alive and receiving help from the ‘inside’ aka Owens. WHICH IS TRUE. So, they’re onto Owens and ALL OF THEM require to be extra careful with calling to Hawkins.
Mike was likely not able to talk about Eleven/Jane much during his calls with Will either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS is likely why we see a walkie-talkie on Eleven’s Mike box and why Mike spoke about stealing Cerebro from Dustin at the end of S3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HOWEVER, because the mail system isn’t under surveillance like phone lines are, LETTERS were established as Mike and El’s primary method of communication.
Whether or not Mike truly did steal Cerebro from Dustin to call El a few times, we see Cerebro at the top of Dustin’s house in what seems to be a very permanent set-up. I personally think this implies Cerebro hasn’t been moved, and their communication happened solely through letters.
But even if, say, Mike went to visit Dustin to use Cerebro (which wasn’t established, but is within the realm of possibilities) it doesn’t change the fact that phone calls were off the table, and thus, those were for Will and Will alone.
So, as Will himself explained, the letters were for Eleven, and phone calls were for HIM.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which means ... this was all about Mike being unable to reach WILL.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Byler is endgame

So I'm gonna say the kinda mean/exasperated thing because I keep seeing a lot of comments lately where people think Mike and El are going to be BFFs next season and they are all excited about it. People have made this relationship into more than it is.
Having headcanons is fine but some people are genuinely convinced they have a friendship and it's coming solely from fan fiction and not the narrative. Next season isn't going to show them suddenly working together and communicating. It isn't realistic and it's never been their story.
If Mike and El were friends they wouldn't be having the following problems:
El wouldn't feel insecure in their relationship in S4 because Mike didn't tell her he loved her. She would feel like they have a bond even if it's platonic. But instead she feels neglected and like he's pulling away.
Mike wouldn't feel insecure in S4 and tell Will several times that he doesn't feel like he has a place in her life because they fought. If they had a friendship as the basis of their relationship, it wouldn't matter if they fought. He'd still feel bad but he wouldn't worry she doesn't need him. He would know their friendship is still there and that they can talk it through.
They would have shown them bonding over something in S3. Instead all we get is them making out. They make a point to go out of their way and show they have nothing in common and they don't bond over things. They don't have shopping and sleepovers like El and Max and they don't have D&D and the arcade like Mike, Will, Lucas, and Dustin. They don't have anything that they share besides trauma. They could have easily given us a moment here where they were playing board games, watching movies, or talking and they don't. And it's implied by Hopper and everyone else that those moments don't exist.
Mike wouldn't have been jealous she was hanging out with Max. He is upset Max became instant friends with her and bonded with her. It's a relationship that he wants - a plantonic one - and one that they can't manage to have.
Mike brings up very platonic things at the end of S3 when they move out. He wants her and Will to visit. It's a conversation about friendship. El quickly shifts the conversation to something romantic and it halts any friendship they could have established at this point. It's clearly something Mike would prefer to have and he's confused she pushes for romance instead.
S1 doesn't give them time to bond over anything. They are in danger and focused on saving Will. They don't talk about anything else except bullying for 1 min. Mike tries to bring up this brief moment of connection in S4 and gets shut down immediately by El. Bullying is not a conversation that brought them closer.
Mike also spends 1 day at home with her when they first find her. He shows her around the house and it's one of the few times this season we see them acting like kids. But bonding over how to work a La-z-boy isn't the foundation of a friendship. It's a very small moment. And it's tied to El's introduction to the real world. It's the bsy trope which doesn't represent healthy relationships.
They are apart for most of S2 and the only moment of potential bonding is the Snow Ball. We don't see much of this. Only Mike being upset that Will is dancing with someone and him looking pretty despondent even after El arrives. Since these two never talk I doubt they suddenly did here. What's more likely is the group hung out. Even though it's established they stop hanging out with them later, it's made clear by Will they were only getting ditched for the summer. The Snow Ball is never referenced by either of them again. They don't bring up that it was fun or reminisce or anything like that. They don't seem to have pictures either besides the one really awkward one that may just be of Finn and Millie behind the scenes and not meant to be them as a couple. They have very little time together and very little screen time. if they wanted to establish a close relationship they would have written it differently. Instead we get a very superficial relationship built off of their shared trauma. And this trauma could have been something that bonded them and gave them a deeper understanding of each other. Instead it's in stark contrast to the way the Nancy and Jonathan, and Mike and Will, and Lucas and Max respond to trauma together. They help each other through these moments and understand each other. Mike and El don't. So season 5 isn't suddenly going to show them bonding. They aren't going to be hanging out and watching movies just the two of them. Because it's established they don't have anything in common. The time for that in the narrative is passed. This doesn't mean they don't care about each other. They do. But you can care about people and not be close with them. Their character arcs have been about them learning how to exist without each other and be true to themselves. Mike uses her to hide his true feelings for Will and his sexuality, and El uses Mike to hide and be like the other kids. They use each other to feel normal. The whole point is that they find themselves and stop pretending and they can't do that with each other. Now at some point in the future it's possible for them to build some kind of friendship. But at this point their entire character development relies on them being separate from each other. They can't find independence when they are together. It causes them both to regress. Right now they basically forced a romantic relationship and coexist because of trauma. It's not a healthy foundation for any relationship. Having them be separated at this point in their development/character arc is the only way each of them will manage to progress. After they get some space from each other it's possible for them to form a friendship, but they can't do that when they don't establish a stronger sense of self because they end up creating codependency between them. It's the healthiest thing for them to be apart. They share the same friend group so it's not like they won't interact. But we aren't going to suddenly see them being close and being BFFs especially one on one. I'd be surprised if we even get a scene of just the two of them post-breakup. They'll likely be with the group. Their paths are different now and they don't need each other to fulfill a sense of normalcy the way they once did. And this is ok. It's good even. Mike's identity and character development involves Will and his friendships with Lucas and Dustin. I would also like to see him establish stronger familial bonds with Nancy and his mother specifically. And El's character arc has always been about finding family so it's much more important to see her with Will, Jonathan, Hopper, and Joyce. Her forming healthy friendships and actually hanging out and having fun with Max, Lucas, and Dustin in particular is so important for her character development. But they have more than established the Mike and El hold each other back. That's been the whole point.

Note
I have the headcanon that Leslie lived until 11, even if he had not super good scores, because he was a little genius of music.
Not everyone can create a song, not everyone can learn super quickly to play a music. I don't remember which song he wanted to learn before his deparature, but i think that it was a difficult one (we don't see him train a lot in the story too) and he plays it before going to the gate, without any partition to help him and without doing any mistake.
I headcanon that she demons keep all the little genius, even if they not have good scores and are genius in other ways, because they think that it worth to keep them.
A kid has not good scores but it a genius with drawing and creates super beautiful things? It's worth to keep him until the age limit.
Leslie is super good in music, learn quickly song and has not need of a partition when he plays? it's worth to wait until he's 11 (close of 12). It could also be a kid who has a beautiful voice ansd sings super well for exemple.
etc....
Norman was a genius in studies and stuff so they keep him beyond 12 by sending him to lambda but people can be genius in other ways that in studies. A genius can be super good in something but kinda bad in another things.
I feel like this is essentially canon, no?
The only birthdays mentioned in "The Starry Sky and Leslie’s List" are Isabella's twelfth birthday and Ray's sixth birthday, so contrary to what the wiki currently says, it doesn't look like Leslie was shipped out exactly on his twelfth since they don't celebrate or even mention it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Leslie's page on the TPN Wiki | TPN Light Novel 2: Moms’ Song of Remembrance - “The Starry Sky and Leslie’s List” Chapter 1)
They are among the oldest though since Isabella turns twelve within a year of his shipment while not being physically able to jump atop the wall as we see her do in chapter 37/S1 episode 12 yet due to the sprained ankle she sustains over the course of the light novel, in addition to spending weeks to months writing him letters that never received a response and what finalized her decision to make the jump in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(TPN Light Novel 2: Moms’ Song of Remembrance - “The Starry Sky and Leslie’s List” Chapter 8 | Chapter 9)
But it's still soon enough that she discovers the truth of the house during the night of the first snowfall of the year, which could be anywhere from late October 2025 to January 2026 (since the full score trio deduces in chapter 5 that Grace Field is located in [the demon world equivalent of] the northern hemisphere, in addition to "The Guiding Star" short story mentioning them planning on using Polaris to find each other again after they go off to foster homes, winter would be during this time of the year).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm inclined to go with January 2026 since we don't see snow on the night of January 15, 2046, and also because I feel there's some poignancy in what would have been Leslie's twelfth birthday month getting to Isabella as the final push to make her seek him out. He surely would have written her in response to the birthday wishes she mailed him. (This is also why I feel his shipment was after September 9, 2025 because him not sending her any birthday well wishes would have tipped her off sooner, too).
Tumblr media
(TPN Light Novel 2: Moms’ Song of Remembrance - “The Starry Sky and Leslie’s List” Chapter 9)
This could be an oddity in the translation, but Isabella also mentions how her her twelfth birthday was close enough that they could mark it on the calendar while the snow was piling up outside. Assuming they put up a new calendar at the start of January, she discovered the truth only in 2026, and then spent over half a year trying to come up with some sort of plan to escape (and isn't there a wealth of potential there, thinking of the adversarial atmosphere between her and Sarah during those few months and how that would be replicated in the next generation between her and Ray, although not 1:1.)
I don't remember which song he wanted to learn before his departure, but i think that it was a difficult one (we don't see him train a lot in the story too) and he plays it before going to the gate, without any partition to help him and without doing any mistake.
He learned to play Nocturne No.2! Though c72684, who translated the light novel, wasn't entirely certain the larger body of work it belonged to.

Theory: the car crash in the winter of 1976 (Part I)
You can read Part II here
I've been working a lot on this theory, and I keep finding things lol. In this post I focus on '76. In Part II I'll talk about the cars.
I think there are many hints that there might've been a car crash in the past (for example, the wheelbarrows) and that that's the event that separated El from her family, Joyce, Hopper and her brothers.
Basically, the theory is that she wasn't abducted at birth. The lab helped her parents to have her and Will (I think Jon is Lonnie's kid) because of Agent Orange. And maybe Brenner was waiting for El to be old enough to test her abilities, or maybe it's something else. Anyway, I think she lived five years with her family, then there was a car crash and powers/a time loop saved her. Or she was brought to the hospital and it was there that powers made her "crawl backwards", like Steve says to Nancy in S4 (here)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And "be swapped in the hospital (to tell you the truth)" like Karen says in S3. I have also a theory about Karen, but that's for another post. It's interesting that she says at the hospital, and not at birth, and in S4 Brenner calls the lab hospital.
I think that from that moment in 1976 it was like El was never part of the family and she became "Terry's kid" and a lab kid. "One's kid." The flashback of Sara's death could be an altered memory of what happened to Will and El after the accident. Or maybe there's even a bigger twist about Sara, but I won't talk about it here. This post is long already, lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@chirpsythismorning noticed something interesting. When El saves Max, the camera rotates counterclockwise. And her arm reminds me of the hand of a clock. Same counterclockwise rotation when Brenner dies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why in winter and why in 1976
There are many references to ice, feeling cold, frozen. The snow, connected to Hopper and El.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
El saying that she comes from a bad place, and the boys saying that it's Sweden, a cold sub-zero place. Imo, the frozen lake, the reason she ended up in the other bad place, the lab.
Tumblr media
The song California dreamin' playing the day before Will's birthday
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the last line in S4: 'It's snowing' while Max is in the hospital and Lucas and Erica, brother and sister, are with her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are also many hints that something bad happened in 1976.
S1: The reporter says that the authorities suspect that Will was victim of foul play and that seven years before ('76) another person drowned in the quarry (*) S2: Lucas tells Max that a very decomposed body was found there. The truth hidden in a fake story
Tumblr media
Castle Byers flashback. Will doesn't get too scared anymore. Joyce jokes about her witch and he says that he's not five anymore ('76). Joyce's witch could be a reference to the Witch of the West. In S1 Hopper calls the lab Emerald City. Also, in Castle Byers there are a rainbow, a stuffed lion and a microscope -> connection to the lab.
Tumblr media
Possible hint at Lonnie's involvement in the "accident" (I'll talk about the trunk in Part II) When Jon was nine/ten he made him kill a rabbit, an animal associated with El and Alice/Henry. Jon was born in 1967, so the rabbit (El?) died in '76. I also think it's not a coincidence that it's Jon, a boy worried about his brother, who sees Barb disappear in a pool. Jon says he cried for a week. He mourned that little rabbit...
Also. When he tells Nancy about the rabbit, he says that he's a fan of Thumper. And in the Nancy and Steve dialogue about crawling backwards, Steve says that what he needed was a thump on his head, to finally start crawl forward
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First day of kindergarten ('76) Will was swinging by himself. Swing sets are associated with both Willel and the Creels, and one of the swings is always broken or missing. If I'm right, this is brilliant: this beautiful Byler moment could also be a hint that Will shouldn't have been alone that day. His sister should've been swinging with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The lifeguard at the pool: 'No one in the water until 30 minutes after the last strike. You wanna get electrocuted, go climb a tree'. A very specific line and another possible hint that someone ended up in the water (a lake) and that powers (the strike) saved them. Behind him a poster with the date '76 and the word Happy Birthday.
Tumblr media
In 4x01, El says that they're all time travellers and that it feels like it's been ten years since she saw Mike. 1986-10 = 1976.
Tumblr media
There's also the poster of the Salizburger Festpiele of 1976- Der Talisman. We see it as Murray and Joyce are talking about Russia and Murray is preparing his ice bath (and he was the one who thought El was a russian spy, so this is about her). Once again, connection between cold and 1976. Plus, The Talisman. Lucas read Stephen King's novel, The Talisman, a story about parallel worlds and Twinners.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
EDIT 2/3/24: Ross posted a photo of A Wrinkle in Time. The book was published in 1962, but this is the cover of the 1976 paperback edition (here)
(*) In the quarry scene there's also a cool parallel with Fringe, one of my favorite shows. Mike wears the same shirt Peter wears in episode 3x15, Subject 13 (my post about Number 13 and Polivia-Byler parallel)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In that episode, Peter almost drowns in the same frozen lake where Walter opened a portal to the other universe.
Tumblr media
And it is revealed that Olivia can travel to the other universe when she's scared. The trigger? Her violent stepfather (looking at you, Lonnie) Why would he hurt the kids? Jealousy, money, or both. A possible parallel with Billy's father, who was jealous of his wife and in Billy's memory asks her: Did you see him again?

My ranking of young royals seasons (how much I like them) is this
1- Season 1
2- Season 2
3 - Season 3
“Isn’t that the literal order they were made in” “why that order” Let me explain
Season 3 is the third, because while the last chapter was absolutely perfect, amazing, groundbreaking, the whole season had a completely different vibe to the other two. This is not a bad thing, in fact it makes total sense. In s1 is when most of the action happens and in s2 we have all the reactions to these actions and the consequences etc. In s3, the characters have already reacted to what happened, what else is there to do? It’s realistic, you’ve already come out to he world, you’ve already stopped being friends with your best friend, everybody finally knows the truth in all aspects (Simon about Sara, the world about the video, etc). Now you just have to live. You’ve done what you had to do, you know what you had to know, now what? Season 3 is just the characters dealing with everything than happened during s1 and s2. Aside from the school shutting down, nothing really happens. “What about wilmon breakup” “what about Sara staying with her dad” “what about-” those are not things that happen, but reactions to things that happened before. Of course wilmon breaks up, if Simon didn’t even have privacy being with wille before they were even out (the video being leaked), why would he have privacy now? Of course he can’t deal with it, of course it’s a huge change, of course he hates monarchy. They get back together, sure, but the break up needed to happen. Simon had to put himself first. It’s what Sara tells him in s1, that he lets people walk all over him. He puts himself first for once, this is a reaction to everything that happened the other seasons. Of course sara stays with her dad, after what happened in s2 it just makes sense. Everything that happens (except school shutting down, and you could argue about that too) is simply a reaction to things than already happened.
Season 2. Season 2 is the aftermath of season 1. While s1 is all about contrasts, about introducing all the key elements (wilmon’s relationship, the leak, the break up, august and Sara, the drugs, Erik’s death, august, etc), s2 is about dealing with the key elements. Simon dating Marcus, Wille taking revenge and being rightfully angry, the development of August and Sara’s relationship, wille being angry with the monarchy for having to hide, the frog snow globe breaking, wille’s last speech, Sara calling the police. All those things are direct reactions to what happened during s1. Of course Simon tries to date another, non famous, guy. Of course sara tries to do the right thing at the end. Of course wille is angry and fed up. Of course he tells the truth at the end. Of course wille tries to kiss Felice to see if he would feel the same way he did with Simon.
Season 1 is the first, the best one, but it’s also the start, and when everything happens. Season 1 is dramatic, it has all the key moments. The video being taken and leaked, wilmon getting together and breaking up for the first time, Erik’s death, wille having to lie about he video, Sara getting with august, Simon stealing and selling his father’s pills, wille’s initiation, the “but I like you and that’s not fake” scene. This season is a whole masterpiece, everything is stablished during s1. There’s not a single thing than happens later in the series than wasn’t already stablished in s1. Wille abdicating? We know since wille talked to his mother about how he wanted to live a normal life in s1. There being possible legal action involved? We know since the video was leaked and Simon sold the drugs, since both of these things are illegal. Sara getting slowly further from Simon until s2 when he discovers and s3 when he forgives her? We see it in the way that not only she knows about the video and didn’t say anything, but the way that she dresses up for dinner, and wants to be like her (richer) classmates / friends. Simon being against monarchy and this causing a problem in s3? Literally the first wilmon meeting in class. S1 is all about contrasts, happy wilmon moments and Simon breaking up with wille. Their first time, how soft it was, the lighting, their expressions, and august recording all of it and uploading it. Erik being a good brother to wille and Erik dying. Erik saying than august will protect wille and august doing the complete opposite. Simon having happy moments with his family (with his mom, with his sister) and bad moments (when his dad found out about the pills).
Season 1 is before, season 2 is during, and season 3 is after.
My ranking is based on my own personal enjoyment, but also how good I think they are. Season 1 is the best one, cannot be topped, but s2 also has my beloved gun scene, Simon hitting wille with a ball, the last speech. But just like in s3, nothing exactly happens, instead everything is a reaction.
This one only makes sense to me, but season 1 and 2 are the iliad and season 3 is the odyssey

I think, however, while we can talk about how Japanese society sees things differently in the West due to different cultural values, this also ignores the current state of Japan. Or at least, the political state of Japan during the time of Houses' release, when Japan's Prime Minister was Shinzo Abe.
Abe, who was considered a Japanese nationalist with a revisionist view of Japan's history. He wanted to make Japan great again. Who unsuccessfully sought to amend article 9 of Japan's constitution, the part that renounces war, in order to remilitarize. People argue his economic policies were a failure, or that he incited hate towards South Koreans, minorities and people in poverty. He was also involved with the Moonie church, which got him assassinated.
It's not like Japanese media isn't afraid of him either. When Tomino made Reconguista in G, part of it was in response to the administrations attempts to remilitarize, especially considering the reason why Tomino started calling out the mecha genre even before Gundam with Zambot 3. The plot of IBO s1 the following year also saw the protagonists putting a corrupt politician back into office after he was forced to leave due to a corruption scandal, much like Abe's first time as PM, but there's more to it than that as the protagonists end up being seen as the bad guys, their memorial monument defaced by those seeking justice, after they tried to take over the world (with the director's faction of the staff saying they were punished for their crimes). Persona 5 was meant to reflect Japanese social issues, and Shido is often seen as being based on Abe. Likewise, Yakuze Like a Dragon's Ryo Aoki's Bleach Japan movement has a lot of the same energy. Senator Armstrong in Metal Gear Rising wants to reinvigorate the war economy to MAGA.
I mean, when Hopes dropped people in Asia were saying it must have been written by a guy with right-leaning tenancies because of how more pro-Edelgard it came off as. She's the most hated character in the Korean fanbase, the Chinese fanbase treat her supporters as “those fans,” and Japan itself saw her as the villain of Houses. Then you look at Hopes, where the guy in charge of the BE route said he picked them because they looked like they would reunify Fodlan.
So I think there might be something to this theory, but it's a context lost in the West because Abe had a better image over here.
And, look, I'm not going to go so far as to say that the creators of Hopes are on the Japanese right. Hopes is supposed to be a game of bad endings for Fodlan in comparison to Houses, it's a sideshow not the main attraction, only you'd have to be intimately familiar with Houses to get this. Silver Snow is, and always will be, the only good route for the Black Eagles class of the four options. But taken on it's own? In a game that's supposed to be fanservice for Houses' fans? It does come across that way.

When I was rage fic-ing post S1, I was thinking that the Council, given Scott being...SCOTT, had stopped talking to him as much bc tscs!Scott sucks so bad!! He 100% would've made comments that deffs did not sit well with ANY of the other Council Members, I mean, look at how he treated Cupid and Sandy! I'd hate to be on THAT Council during Covid, YIKES.
But like. GOD. @lmelodie you were SO RIGHT about Council stans being pissed bc I am MAD PISSED. ALSO, JUST LEARNT THAT I AM APPARENTLY A V BIG COUNCIL STAN!! (Checks out I suppose given my fic writing and reading habits, lol).
It's just so MADDENING and INFURIATING and SADDENING, IT'S ACTUALLY REALLY REALLY SAD TO SEE THAT T H I S IS HOW THEY'RE REACTING TO NOT BEING ABLE TO GET ALL THE COUNCIL MEMBERS BACK. Like, GOD, if you're unable to properly use them in the story JUST DON'T USE THEM AT ALL. I am once again REJOICING that the Millers have been left untouched, thank GOD for that!
AND ANOTHER THING (took a kitchen cleaning break and got all annoyed about loopholes). IF RESIGNING AS A LEGENDARY FIGURE ALLOWS YOUR POWERS TO WORK ON OTHERS, WHY WOULD THEY THREATEN JACK WITH THAT IN THE THIRD MOVIE? WOULDN'T YOU WANT HIM TO KEEP HIS TITLE SO THAT HIS POWERS WOULDN'T WORK ON THE REST OF YOU, INCLUDING SANTA?!?!?!?!?! THIS SHIT DOESN'T LINE UP! IT DOESN'T! LINE! UP! MY GOD! THIS SERIES IS MY VILLAIN ORIGIN STORY! THIS SERIES IS WHY PEOPLE NEED TO STOP REBOOTING OLD THINGS! 80% OF THE TIME IT'S A MISS! THAT'S TOO MUCH RISK! TOO MUCH!! AH!
I THINK I'M DONE YELLING ABOUT THE COUNCIL. PROBABLY NOT TBH. BUT FOR NOW I'LL CALL IT. GOD, I MEAN, I KNEW WHEN WE LEARNT WE'D BE SEEING SOME OF THEM THEY WOULD NOT MAKE IT OUT UNSCATHED BUT DAMN! DAMN! MORE RETCONNING LORE! DAMN!
eurhgjrbewhfnujqncwje nsdjk. GOD I'm EXHAUSTED. My brain itches. I was thinking of lobotomys today. I wonder why (/sarcasm)
(it was bc of a shitty patron at work but this just adds to the freudian slips)
UGH. Ick. Yuck. Moving on (impossible for me but we're gonna TRY!)
Elves vs Gnomes
So. The backstory thing. I just. It's cool lore but it leaves more questions than answers and just makes things SO CONFUSING. AS A DISCLAIMER: GO OFF BETTY, WE LOVE TO SEE HER BEING A BADASS. BETTY! HELL YEAH! WE HERE AT SAFYRESKY INDUSTRIES LOVE TO SEE BETTY THRIVING!
Now for the wank. From a LORE PERSPECTIVE. EURGH.
They drop that Mad Santa was a good Santa until he thought everyone was ungrateful and implemented coal and became buds with the gnomes, who apparently ran the coal mines. The gnomes get in his head and prey on his paranoia. Paranoia of WHAT. I've not done a second watch and I don't think I will because I don't actually want a lobotomy despite them being on my mind today a little too much tbh, so maybe i missed that bit, but like, come ON. We can do better in terms of giving antagonists a believable descent into villainy! GOD!
And the trap scene, that was so needlessly drawn out. They should have held him in the trap, Betty revealed her badass self, had Magnus taunt and THEN boom, Befana ALREADY THERE, and she nutcrackers his ass.
Also, calling it NOW. Not ONLY will Sandy un-nutcracker Cal, but she's deffs gonna re-nutcracker Magnus. I bet it'll be like a reversal spell or something lmao
BUT YEAH the lore for the elves around Mad Santa's reign is not quite hitting with me, I gotta say! I am not a fan of it and every time I see it (Betty and Noel aside bc they of course SHINE) it leaves me very :\. It just. Doesn't seem to hit? Or really work? It's just so convoluted to me and goes against everything they said NOT JUST in the movies but LAST SEASON AND ALSO IN INTERVIEWS ABOUT THE SERIES BEFORE TI CAME OUT! It's infuriating y'all. GOD. "A war we didn't see coming" wow, the gnomes and Pyros sure do have something in common, eh? 🤔🤔
Cal and Sandra
God, I love them. They're so funny. Cal is like destroying his room and Sandy is like BRO what the FUCK and HELPS HIM HUNT DOWN THE VEST WITH SANTA MAGIC!! USING HER BEFANA TRAINING! AND THEN HE HELPS HER MAKE UP WITH BEFANA! By lying, of course, so he can go be stupid and heroic and GET NUTCRACKER'D (they nutcrackered my boy ): BUT I LOVE THE WAY THEY SUPPORT EACH OTHER
And the almost hug that turned into punches, lol. That's so Toph coded. We love to see it!
We DON'T love to see Cal DOING THAT! THOUGH! I DID LOVE HIS SCENE WITH KRIS. I'm really hoping, given that he and Cal got duct tapped together and he knows Cal's been nutcrackered, that they give him more of a role, you know? Honestly, it'd be neat if they made Kris the next Santa! I think he'd fit the bill quite well! And then Cal could have his odd job montage and, you know, cross guard and sail on a cruise ship and such. I am VERY intrigued with this pairing, as an aside. Kris and Cal? There's potential. They're gonna fuck it up I'm sure, but we have some DANK POTENTIAL HERE
Sandra and Befana
I'M SO GLAD THEY CHATTED! I am still v much like Sandra did NOTHING wrong and Befana overacted, but I'm glad they talked. Interesting stuff about the magic taking a tole/consequences. Mad Santa really do be out here messing up the balance of things huh? And Mother Nature WON'T intervene. GOD. I know it's bc they probz couldn't get the rest of the ALIVE actors back but like. THEN WHY EVEN USE SOME OF THEM? YEESH. ANYWAY
I'm excited to see how Sandy and Befana manning home base goes! I'm glad they talked and hopefully they can un-lemon EB and just be general badasses around the Workshop, lol.
BUT YEAH. OVER ALL. ARGH. I AM ONCE AGAIN SEEING POTENTIAL, BUT KNOWING THAT IT WON'T BE REACHED IS ACTUALLY LIKE. DEVASTATING.
ALSO. I HATE THAT I WAS RIGHT ABOUT MAD SANTA GETTING TO THE POLE IN EPISODE 6. ARGH

Conglomerate ST S5 Theory Parallels:
So, I wanted to make this post for Back to the Future parallels and what I’ve made of it.
(I grew up watching BTTF with my parents, so the trilogy holds a place in my heart. It’s a bit of a “Dad and me” movie, so, when I found out just how much Inspo the Duffers pulled from the movies, I was shocked but also very excited for S5.)
Anyways, here’s a bunch of parallels (and some interesting Will things I’ve found throughout S2 will be brought up, but that is getting it’s own post because it’s a LOT to dive into.)
First up, the Snow Ball and the Enchantment Under The Sea dance:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The color schemes are the exact same.
The one thing I noticed with the Snow Ball that was more interesting to me than anything else in that scene, is the fact that it’s ONLY the second time in S2 that Will and El are in the same building… and here, they are in the same space, but never meet.
After watching S4, we know that the Snow Ball is important. But for Max, the memory of the Snow Ball wasn’t enough to save her from Vecna. She may have been happy then, but ultimately, love saved Max.(platonic or not, no matter your take on it; love was the reason El was able to heal Max and bring her back to life. Now, if her memories are still intact is negotiable.)
Now, I thought about this, and I was wondering why Max’s happiest memory, (possibly being the Snow Ball), wasn’t enough to save her after she hid in the Snow Ball memory. . .
And I thought that, maybe the significance of the Snow Ball, thematically at least, had a few more underlying reasons for being emphasized, aside from possibly hinting at Elmax or Elumax (I’m still not sure if they will do that, but it’s Stranger Things - the subvert tropes show).
In BTTF, Marty’s parents have their first kiss at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance. . . But at the Snow Ball, we have Joyce and Hopper having a moment outside by Joyce’s car, and Will and El are at the dance - even if they never see one another. It’s interesting to me, that El knew Will wasn’t doing well, and she’s just so certain of it when talking to Joyce in the bedroom, but then, later, the kids all go to the dance. I think that the importance of the Snow Ball is that Will, El, Hopper, Joyce, and Jonathan are all there… and it’s very paralleled to BTTF because of the timeline alteration that split their family apart.
Next, we have the Clock Tower storm and The U.D. / the Storm in S2 & S4:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So… this one seems self explanatory.
There’s a storm on the night Marty travels back in time.
There’s a storm the morning after Will goes missing in S1.
We see the storm in S2 with bolts of red lightning, and then we see the storm again in S4. Something that I wanted to point out here though, is that everyone looking out of windows; Lucas and Erica, Dustin, Steve, Robin, Holly, and Karen - they all only see storm clouds… they don’t see the view that Will & the others see. The importance there is that Will is very likely in a Vecna vision… and I think it just culminates at the end. I honestly think that Will and El were Vecna’d at the same time (and I’ll do a post on the blue flannels later, because it’s very interesting, but I need to get the parallels down so then I can add Part 2 of the overall theory)
Additionally, this kind of hints at Will having time powers, because we see the storm following him throughout the seasons. Now, the clock tower is also important because that is a direct parallel to Vecna/Henry/001 and the clocks… but it also parallels Will because of the Williams clock.
Another pretty obvious parallel is Will having a dog in S1 that looks almost exactly like Einstein- Doc Brown’s dog, the dog seems to act as a way of pointing to the weirder happenings in the show in S1, but then the dog is just… gone after S1. I think this parallels BTTF part 2, because Einstein is missing in most of the ‘Bad Timeline’. I think that the tv blip in S1 is the start of the “bad timeline” for Stranger Things; and it only gets worse from there on out.
Because, in the Bad Timeline, Marty’s mom marries Biff. George dies because Biff shot him with a gun. Marty basically becomes Biff’s step son, and his siblings are financially dependent upon Biff to pay their debts.
And Marty has the seemingly impossible task of fixing everything Biff did, which puts us in line with BTTF part 3 where they have to go fix something in the old west (I haven’t rewatched that one yet for analysis.)
And, in Stranger Things, once the timeline is altered:
Joyce marries Lonnie Byers (like Lorraine marries Biff)
Joyce and Hopper can’t remember being married with a family
Hopper dies (just like George dies)
Marty comes to and finds himself in this strange new place, his mom is there, but he isn’t at home- he’s at Biff’s penthouse (this reminded me of Will waking up in S1 - and asking “Where am I?” Because Marty also asks “Mom? Where am I?”)
El is in the lab & then breaks out (compared to Marty’s siblings not being around in Part 2)
The last parallel I wanted to bring up here is the bubble vest/puffer jacket:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one seems like another obvious parallel… with Will wearing a vest very similar to Marty’s. But I’ve noticed that S2 is littered with extras wearing the same or similar vests, just the same way S1 is kind of littered with vests… I have to do some digging for S3 and S4, but I’ve found the vests most often in seasons 1 and 2. (I will post about this at some rate as well.)
But as far as BTTF parallels go, at least for parts 1 and 2, that’s sort of all have got at this point.

Going to keep this short because A. life and B. not a ton of progress made! :DDDD
Cat and Mouse
It’s an even richer reading experience now that I have faces and voices to put to each character. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Sam was the man killed in the episode Snow, right?
Nan’s extrapolations on Vincent being named after a saint makes me wonder if perhaps I did hit on a grain of an idea by drawing parallels between the injuries of Jacob from the biblical canon and  Jacob Wells/Father. At the very least, I’m going to pat myself very prematurely on the back. XDDD
Mitch, unlamented? Was he the criminal in S1? If so, great callback, Nan!
Nan’s notes on Cullen are really incredible, honestly-- she sets so much up already by going backwards in time. Great reread.
Cullen needing to be more cautious with the children around. Kanin not yet knowing all the ways of Below. Vincent telling Father but not telling him about Cullen's deal of silence. All interesting.
I prodded sis about her thoughts on Nan's "version" of Father. Sis: “I still think she does Father really funny.”
“Better to volunteer, he thought, than to wait for the inevitable to be forced, however courteously, upon him.”-- OOoooooh, like The Alchemist and The Outsiders. Cool stuff, Nan.
“Vincent slid his palm across, beyond the timber-reinforced doorway, were water-carved: this slightly tilted, tall cavern was a section of the channel of a lost subterranean river. No one knew why or when the river had stopped flowing.” Is that… is that a reference to the INCIDENT in Part III when Vincent lets the water loose? “Where a river had been, a river might suddenly return. The possibility of flood couldn't be ignored.” IT IS A REFERENCE.
“He ruefully slapped his bad hip—an old injury, aggravated by arthritis.” So, Sis relayed to me about Roy's story at con about the origin of Father’s injury coming about because of Roy’s back luck with hips and swimming pools-- which, that’s perversely hilarious and makes moments like the above hit a little bit different (aside from Nan’s backstory, of course.)
Btw, sis inhaled most of the con and has been telling me bits and pieces. Thus far, I’m hooked on Nan and she’s hooked on any BATB 1987 bts content.
“Accept my warm welcome to the ranks of the chronically uncertain.” What a hilarious line from Father-- and what weight this conversation has, especially with Nan’s backstories she will continue to unfurl in the coming chapters. LOVED it.
Father and his chess and Vincent’s “Sixty-two… if one happened to be counting” was exquisite.
Vincent pondering over the boy huddling in the dark, hungry and alone, for “reasons he could put no name to”-- incredible.
Gotta scuttle off! Be back soon with more~! :DDDDD
Hey! Sorry for the delay responding. I just pulled myself out of the rabbit hole.
Let's Talk about Cat and Mouse, one of my favorite "Young Vincent" stories.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but Sam was the man killed in the episode Snow, right?
I think that's safe to assume.
Mitch, unlamented? Was he the criminal in S1? If so, great callback, Nan!
Yep, Mitch Denton from the episode The Beast Within. He also plays a small but important role in my fic The Possibility of Being. Nan and I shared a certain curiosity about a few of the one-off characters on the show.
I prodded sis about her thoughts on Nan's "version" of Father. Sis: “I still think she does Father really funny.”
Like funny as in amusing, or funny as in not in character?
“Better to volunteer, he thought, than to wait for the inevitable to be forced, however courteously, upon him.”-- OOoooooh, like The Alchemist and The Outsiders. Cool stuff, Nan.
And on many other occasions over the years, I'm sure. There's just so much fodder for fanfic in the BATB universe, so many unanswered questions, so many missing years.
No one knew why or when the river had stopped flowing.” Is that… is that a reference to the INCIDENT in Part III when Vincent lets the water loose? “Where a river had been, a river might suddenly return. The possibility of flood couldn't be ignored.” IT IS A REFERENCE.
Another of the many seeds Nan planted from early on. She had a remarkable gift for that sort of thing. She was very much a gardener. I'll post a quote from GRRM when I'm finished here, where he distinguishes between two types of writers.
Btw, sis inhaled most of the con and has been telling me bits and pieces. Thus far, I’m hooked on Nan and she’s hooked on any BATB 1987 bts content.
I wish there was more video of Nan. She was a blast to hang out with. But your sister certainly has lots to discover and enjoy with all the con videos.
“Accept my warm welcome to the ranks of the chronically uncertain.” What a hilarious line from Father-- and what weight this conversation has, especially with Nan’s backstories she will continue to unfurl in the coming chapters.
I love Nan's Father. Yet another character that she absolutely nails. There are some fans who don't care for Father and I've never understood that. I always loved him as his own person, as well as the relationship he and Vincent have. You'd have to be blind not to see how much they love and respect each other. That's part of why the events of the trilogy was such a blow to Vincent's peace of mind.
Father and his chess and Vincent’s “Sixty-two… if one happened to be counting” was exquisite.
Though we don't see it often on screen, I'm convinced Vincent has a very wry sense of humor and he and Father likely took affectionate shots at each other all the time. Life Below couldn't possibly have been all drama and angst. These folks liked to have fun too.
Vincent pondering over the boy huddling in the dark, hungry and alone, for “reasons he could put no name to”-- incredible.
Perhaps a bit of Buster's memories of abandonment bleeding through to Vincent? That's what I've always thought anyway.
Okay, time to wrap this up. I've got to do one more read-through before I post my new V & D fic. 😁

I am so frustrated that I am about to scream. I saw a poll about if Emma swan deserves hate right? And in the comments one person says 'I hate her ingernalozed misogyny and internalized homophobia'.
Basically says she adapted so that Snow wouldn't abandon her and that the writers wrote the perfect closeted lesbian relationship with her and Regina.
They also censored h00k and I'm just so pissed and annoyed I could loose my mind.
THEY HAVE A FUCKING LESBIAN COUPLE IN THE SHOW. TWO ACTUALLY.
If they wanted swanqueen to happen, they would have made it happen.
Someone also said they were iffy because of how she reacted towards Regina because Regina is a 'good' mother and Emma was like 'I don't know about that'.
I feel like I am losing my mind.
The hilarious thing is that Regina deserves nothing but hate and all she gets is love, sympathy and understanding from that crowd.
“Internalized misogyny and homophobia” are buzz phrases they throw around to back up their lack of valid arguments. All they have to do is claim something is "sooo bad it's this and that" and it justifies whatever else nonsense that comes out of their mouths.
How does Emma have internalized misogyny?
Because she is in love with a man who has done, pretty much nothing to her, compared to the woman they want to watch walk all over Emma? The examples they use are things Hook did or said while a villain & while they were enemies or when he consumed by darkness. To which we respond: and? That’s not the real Hook nor the Hook we ship Emma with nor the Hook that Emma is in love with! Regina Apologists refuse to acknowledge the change in Hook.
Tumblr media
So they claim that Emma lets Hook put her down which is just 100% false meanwhile they ignore the canon fact that Regina does put Emma down and has made Emma doubt herself. They claim that it’s just Regina’s “sass” or my favorite is “well, wifey deserved it” because yes Regina gets to abuse other characters but if a character upsets poor mass-murdering rapist Regigigig “that character bad, that character evil”. Well, Hook was consumed by evil so if Regina’s “sass” can be used as an excuse then being consumed by a literal evil entity should most definitely be a free pass for Hook. But alas we’re talking about double standard hypocrites here.
How does Emma have internalized homophobia?
Because she isn’t in love with the straight woman who held a male sex slave for 28 years? And yes, sorry loves, canon wise Regina is straight! What the actress says off camera doesn’t count! But somehow saying this stops them from her being bi/lesbian in their head canons? Oh the power that I wield!
Just because the writing didn’t go where they wanted it to go they have to pull out the homophobia card. It’s ridiculous. The writers were not writing “the perfect closeted lesbian relationship” which they outright say in a panel. Even if they were then it was far from perfect and more on the toxic side since the SwanQueen fandom claims that Regina was in love with Emma while actively trying to murder her and her parents. It would have been far from perfect since SwanQueen claim that Emma was in love with Regina while fighting against Regina purposefully hurting her and her son. But apparently they think all of this made Emma hot for Regina? Abuse is not love! Repeat after me: ABUSE. IS. NOT. LOVE.
Tumblr media
Regina apologists think that Regina abusing her son because she’s afraid makes her a good mother
The Regina Apologists will never acknowledge the abuse Regina heaped on Henry nor the fact that Emma was there to save Henry from her curse which was causing him emotional distress. That alone makes Regina a horrible mother and Emma the better one. Regina deserved everything she got in S1-2 and more.
But again we’re back to the fact that Regina apologists think that everything Regina does is someone else’s fault and that her abuse is really love.
What proof is there that Snow would abandon Emma if she weren’t straight?
Tumblr media
This is another pretty popular talking point and it’s based off a tweet by Ginny Goodwin. And she was 100% correct. I don’t know what the exact quote was but it boiled down to this: that Snow would have a problem with Emma being with REGINA because Regina is Snow’s step-mother. If they could use logic they would understand that from Snow’s perspective that would be strange, awkward and a little upsetting. I mean, come on, Regina sent men to murder Snow’s child, the same child they want Regina to get with. So this isn’t about any other woman being with Emma but it was specifically about Regina.
Snow is best friends with a bisexual woman and supported her relationship with Dorothy. But the RAs/SQs ignore this little fact and Regina’s history with Snow so that they can continue spewing their buzz phrases. Also, they like feeling like victims.
They like to claim that Emma had to choose Hook because that is what her parents wanted which is just not supported in canon anywhere and you can point to S3 pushing her toward Neal and their wanting Emma to let Hook go in S5 as clear examples. Snowing wanted Emma to be happy. That is it.
P.S. It makes me laugh when they still censor H00k years after the show ends. They started doing this so he wouldn’t trend on social media and thus make it look like he was popular because they have always, wrongly, believed that he wasn’t popular at all.

I need someone to go through the show and find all of Robin and Nancy’s autistic traits. That person might be me.
i can name a few off of the top of my head!
general nancy:
incredibly blunt speech patterns. says what she needs to say and calls it good
is noticeably less emotive than other characters
s1 nancy:
uber-fixation on barb's disappearance shows a one-track mind
(also a result of her losing her One Close Friend)
has expectations set for herself and becomes very upset when she doesn't live up to them
is a social outcast attempting to be someone she's not in order to fit in
sudden outbursts of emotions (fight with karen, fight with steve, fight with barb)
telling steve that she has to study (could be interpreted as her being a goody-two shoes but i'm choosing to interpret it as her aversion to an interruption in her routine/plan)
s2 nancy:
bottling up her emotions causes a large (but still private as she has to maintain a strong appearance) breakdown
dancing with dustin at the snow ball. she knows what it's like to be an outcast and wants him to know that there's someone who has his back (even though I this cannot fully explain it, this is an autistic moment)
s3 nancy:
one track mind makes an appearance once again! especially within the context of the rat investigation
getting fired doesn't stop her from still pursuing her interest
shuts down (goes nonverbal) when arguing with jonathan
s4 nancy:
implied that she lives by a tight schedule (introduction scene of telling mike he has a limited time to be ready)
hiiiii nancy's one track mind <3 she gets the idea to research at the library and then has to go infiltrate a maximum security mental hospital (obviously, what else would she do) to learn more about the topic of her interest
general robin:
viewers can see the her masking drop between s3 and s4 because of her comfort and familiarity around steve
very descriptive vocabulary
s3 robin:
fluent in four languages
learns russian because she's bored (and to crack the secret code)
s4 robin:
self-stated that she doesn't understand social cues
rambles <3
irrational fears
bad coordination!

Actually, I've been thinking about the Trix's villain degradation and I thought up a little Au where the Trix literally degrade (along side their writing XD)
In s2, Darcy stays in light rock monastery. She refuses to leave. Darkar creeps her out, she genuinely cared about Riven and feels really bad about him jumping off of Cloud Tower, and she has completely ruined any chance of her being normal and having any kind of relationship for a plan that didn't even work. So she just stays, not going with Darkar and her sisters.
In s3, Stormy stays in the Omega Dimension. She's a lot more dedicated that Darcy was, so she helps Icy fight off the serpents and free Valtor, but that's it. She misses Darcy, and doesn't want to keep doing shit that wastes their time and energy for an unachievable goal. Especially not working under someone who could betray her again, no way.
Icy is with the Ancestral Witches in the first movie instead of Mandragora. More viscous, less in control, and just generally having a third act break down the entire movie before her final defeat. Final agni kai style.
Bonus scenes:
Darcy is well aware that the first movie is a trap and tries to warn Riven when he comes to visit her, but Liliss stops her with powerful mental pains.
Riven visits her...I wouldn't say often but more than every now and then. He visits mainly because he feels that she's more like him that she first came off as and he's low key hoping that she'd try to redeem herself like he's been working towards every since the s1 finale. Most of his hope comes from Darcy not leaving with the Trix, but she refuses to do anything that will get her let out from the monastery.
Darcy can't bring herself to get out because that would mean people would expect her to stand up to Icy and Stormy and she refuses under all circumstances. She also can't bring herself to commit more crimes so she's kinda in stasis for s2-3+m1.
Tecna and Stormy meet in the Omega Dimension. Tecna doesn't try to fight her, and just keeps her distance because "not actively a threat" doesn't mean "trustworthy". Stormy might of helped her for a price, but Tecna wouldn't make a deal with her.
Stormy has a little mafia going on in the Omega Dimension.
The Ice Serpent (that holds the Omega Dimension's magical core) recognizes Tecna as it's savior (because I think that would be cool) so the snow on the Omega Dimension tends to wisp around her because the magical core likes her. Stormy nicknames her the Princess of the Omega Dimension because of this. Tecna hates the nickname. Stormy doubles down.
Icy gets increasingly unstable as this goes on which lead to Stormy leaving because she couldn't deal with Icy lashing out at her constantly.
Half way though the final battle, Icy steals what's left of the Ancestral Witches power doing the super!Trix form but more.
Icy 2000% blames all of this on the Winx, and specifically Bloom, for stopping her first plan. The confrontation in the middle of Obsidian would be a lot more... brutal. No more boys with swords, no more scheming, no more next time they meet, Icy drags the Winx into a fight to death and loses.
I have no clue how Darcy and Stormy would react to this but due to their connected to Liliss, and Tharma, they are aware of Icy's fate.
On the bright side they don't have Liliss, and Tharma in their head 24/7 so that's fun.
Stormy and Darcy would be theoretically redeemable in this au, but it would take a lot (esp for Stormy) to actually be redeemed. You can't tell me that no one was killed in the s1 finale. Magix city looked like an apocalyptic wasteland, and Stormy just kept going lol. But it would be really funny if they were somehow redeemed tho bc that would not make Stormy any nicer of a person even a little bit.

Let's watch: Winx Nickelodeon Special I
Okay, I made the step and watched the nickelodeon Winx Special. And OMG it’s so bad lmao. But today I am not alone reviewing – my best friend H-chan succored me and I swear, her comments are comedy gold. Just like I she knows Winx from her childhood but is no fan of it anymore so I am even more glad, that she agreed to watch it with me! Okay, let’s start. (H is her and L is me)
H: What's this for a really stupid new opening? I want "Heller als Licht*"!!! *the original German opening song for s1 and s2
H: Gardenia looks like in a bad computer game, the trees are floating 😂
Tumblr media
H: she goes to bed with her clothes on
L: At least she takes off her shoes
H: other outfits? that's totally confusing (everyone wearing their s3 outfits)
H: And Bloom rides her bike without a helmet. A very bad example again for the children
H: what??? Stella doesn't even have her real scepter!! It used to look like a hubcap. now it looks like a virus
Tumblr media
.....i mean she's not wrong
Tumblr media
L: Icy has a new voice actress in this one....wait! it's the same voice as Mai from ATLA!
H: Die Bloom, die!
L: also why does knut look so scary?? Wtf
H: At least it's not Katara from ATLA
[Bloom+family+Stella attacked by Knut and Troll] L: Why doesn't Stella transform? 😂
[the specialists arrive] L: Oh right, Sky is Sky in this one.
H: But then the whole conflict is gone. nothing will happen anymore. then what reason does Bloom have to be mad at him???
H: I always thought they had cool laser swords, but they can't do anything
H: Oh yes, I will fight against it, that will certainly help 🙄
[Faragonda appears] H: GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR 😬
[Bloom steps on Floras plant] H: Yes Bloom, the first thing you do is killing your roommate's plant 🙄
H: NOOO Flora has a new voice too 😖 (actually her new one from s3 ongoing)
H I always thought her [Flora's] outfit was super cool
L: this or the old one?
H: no, this one, the top of the old one looked like lettuce
jdjflksjfdsfkkdsfö I almost died laughing. I actually liked the old one a lot and never saw a lettuce in it xD)
[Transformation and everyone shouting their things, like FLORA FAIRY OF NATURE ] H: Okay but if Flora is the fairy of nature, that should contain water too. So everything left for Layla is being the fairy of jelly
H: Yes, AlFEA the school for FAIRIES. Someone was very creative on this one (in Germany it's even more obvious because fairy means Fee)
H: Why does Griselda want to punish them now? For eating pizza or for being almost killed by three sexy witches?
L: For the plot I suppose. So they put one of the most boring episodes in (Friends in Need)
[Musa: We would be done sooner if you know who helped us] H: As if Voldemort would help you
L: Riven be like NOPE

L: Stormy has the same voice like Katara I think!
H: We know that when she says something with hope 🤣
H: Timmy has no laser sword. He has a flashlight 🤣
[Driven appears on screen]
Tumblr media
H: CUUUUUUUTE
Also they completely left the part with the Prince of Darkness out because not even Rainbow knew what it was about xD
L: And of course BLOOM hat the idea. 🙄
Tumblr media
H: like the scrap drummers 🤣🤣
H: They could have died for not transforming so as not to break the rules, but they break into the office simply because bloom wants to
H: riven only turned on the light so the trix could see the others😌
[Faragonda hopes that Griffin will punish the Trix] H: yes of course, noo! she'd totally celebrate it. Besides, they're bad witches and then they do something bad and it's not right either???
Daphne: Bloom, do you recognise my voice? H: No, it's different from the one in the show
[In the simulation room ]H: Why is there no snow on Domino??? (that always fucked me up too in the show ahahah)
L: Why do the Trix already guess that Bloom has the dragon flame? Where do they know it from?
H: Because they're mega smart 😌
[Paladium: We have to get her back] H: yeh, you could have done that sooner
H: oh those are supposed to be wings when she makes that finger movement? I always thought she just couldn't do a heart

Tech and Crosshair are my two favorite bois in the galaxy and I have something lighthearted to say about Crosshair's character arc.
Clone Wars
In Clone Wars he shows no affection to any of the clones. Not even his brothers, making sure to tease Wrecker whenever he can, and makes sure everyone knows how much he doesn't like Regs. He even gets into a fight with Rex about it.
TBB S1
Throughout the 1st Season of TBB Crosshair only really shows that he's a valuable member to The Batch, but has other desires because of the IChip. He then goes out of his way to try and hunt down his Squad for the empire and nearly killed Wrecker. Then has his chip removed in episode 3 and still wishes to serve the empire because he's commited to work in an orderly fashion and not as a mercenary barely scraping by. By the end of Season 1 of the Bad Batch Crosshair kills his troopers to give The Batch a chance to join his side. This shows that he means well and cares about his squad and doesn't want to see them dead, but if they don't want to follow him he is their enemy by proxy. He also feels abandoned by the Batch because they don't leave anyone behind and therefore seeks to destroy them throughout the first season. Also at the end of S1 Crosshair knew that working together would be the only way out of Tipoca City so he worked with the Batch to escape for his own benefit. He was hesitant to capture the batch after S1 because Omega is trying to show Crosshair that she cares about him and wants him to come back with the batch. Crosshair admires Omega because she saved him therefore not leaving him behind like he claims the rest of the batch did. It shows her commitment to keeping her squad safe even if they don't agree with eachother. Crosshair then saves her in exchange showing that he still cares about his squad too, especially Omega because of her affection towards him.
TBB S2
Next we see that he is very determined to commit himself to the Empire. This is where h starts to experience change within the empire that doesn't benefit him. He was left on Kamino for 32 rotations and still came back to serve the Empire. This starts to show how little the empire cares for the clones and would rather have regular people as soldiers because of the unhinged nature of clones. Throughout this season there are many trials thrown at Crosshair making him question his loyalty. He continues to lie to himself and clones by saying that they are just following orders. This makes a lot of clones around Crosshair start to question "the order", as Rampart puts it. They are mistreated and have started being replaced. Crosshair thinks that he's too important for the Empire to get rid of but soon learns that everyone can and will be replaced. Soon Crosshair starts to question his loyalty to the empire rather than where his old squad is hiding. Crosshair talkes to Howzer on Ryloth and he ends up turning away from the order. He talks to commander Cody and ends up going AWOL the next day. He talks to Mayday who is already questioning the order, because of his situation on the Outpost planet. Mayday loses several of his men because the empire was unwilling to give them more supplies and troops. Crosshair agrees that something should have been done about the situation which has started his respect for other clones besides Omega. He then gets sent on a mission on a planet with harsh weather with limited supplies and all he has is Mayday to look out for him. The two bond over their past and how the Empire has screwed over the Clones lately and this is where Crosshair really questions his loyalty to the empire. Realizing that their mission was to retrea armor for their replacements they both try to return empty-handed. Then after being tossed by an avalanche Crosshair digs through the snow to help Mayday. This is only the second time we really see him save anyone in this show. Crosshair, the guy who started off not giving a shit about anyone other than himself is now risking his life to save a Reg clone that he only met a few hours ago. It's so cute how they cuddled to stay warm but heartbreaking that Mayday ended up dying in the end. This breaks Crosshair so much that he kills his lieutenant finally cutting his ties with the Empire. He continues to show his loyalty to others by willing to undergo a tremendous amount of pain (im guessing) to not tell Dr Hemlock where his Squad or Omega is. He is now fully commited to them even if he's not with the batch at this time.
I know this was kind of a ramble but its crazy to see how much Crosshair has gained affection for people he previously hated and how much he has changed!

7, 12, 16, and 25 for the ouat ask game!
Hey, thanks for the ask!
7. Character you'd love to punch in the face
Oh boy. Well, that's a group project so Milah, Hook, Robin, Belle.
Hook and Milah are on a similar boat, as are Robin and Belle on different one. The difference is that the first two were presented as shitty people from the get go but got somewhat woobified by the writers later on while the other two were presented as almost perfect in their introductory episodes and slowly but surely ended up being shitty people without that fact being recognized by the writers, ending up in pure hypocrisy.
Milah and Hook bullying a disabled person who never harmed them will never sit well with me and on top of that Hook trully is a f*ck boi and we all know that his story wasn't organically changed so it genuinely does not count in my eyes, he'll always be an ass.
Robin is the character equivalent of "stay away from her, get a job". I trully despise his mere existence in the show, he should have never even been a part of it in the first place, especially by being connected to Regina in any way. A liar and a covert f*ck boi of his own which never even gets addressed and that's what's pissing me off with him and Belle as well, their awful behaviors always being swept under the rug.
Belle on the other hand could have been an absolute legend of a character if she actually, you know, was written as a character and not Rumple's shitty love interest. The way she absolutely didn't have a life of her own but her only purpose in the narrative was to change Rumple, blame him for everything, vilify him and emotionaly manipulate him by taking advantage of his self loathing tendencies under the disguise of "love", makes her an unsung villain in my eyes and I wish we were spared from that charade long ago. If you can't introduce Belle as a main character with her own story and you also can't write her as Rumple's love interest because her characterisation trully clashes with what Rumple's love interest is supposed to be, then don't write her at all ffs. On one hand she deserved better (by being the protagonist of her own story) but on the other hand I also deserved better (by not seeing her current canon bullshit and having my favorite character destroyed by her. Quite literally in the end, I haven't even touched the despicable s7 suicide plot. Like, f the writers and f her, that's my sentiment.)
12. A line/quote that you connected with the first time you heard it
Honestly all the lines I love are from s1 or s2 and that says a lot. When Regina said "I just wanted to win, for once" or "She makes me angry all the time, it's exhausting". When Rumple asked for "money... comfort..." in 1x02, especially considering his tone and then his backstory. Poverty gives a certain tone of bitterness and pain that's very distinct and hits you like a train.
16. Favorite moment between a platonic pairing
I'll go with Snow and Regina (the canon interpretation, don't @ me) and every single time they have a friendly snark moment between a heart to heart. Those little moments highlight so much their deep seated connection that it's endearing and funny. They have this familiarity that can be found in best friends and it's just beautiful to watch.
25. If you could give a message to any one character, what would you say?
Assuming I was a character in the show that he actually would listen, I'd tell Rumple not to let his idealized version of Belle and his vilified version of himself in his mind get a hold of him. Things are not as black and white and he doesn't deserve to be treated badly in a relationship nor being emotionally manipulated and blamed for everything. He doesn't deserve everything bad that's happened to him and the right person will love him for himself even if they have disagreements and they won't try to change him. The right person will have compassion above all, especially for his traumas and his fears over who he'd be without the Dark One if that ever happened, not holding a hero complex projector onto him. I'd tell him to remember to be just a little bit kinder to himself, even a tiny bit. (And basically open his eyes and realise that Regina trully loves him but that's a bonus)

how do you interpret Mike’s behavior in s2? it’s so intriguing to me because he was obviously hung up on El and called her every day after seeing her the night of the police questioning, but he also had a very close bond to Will even before his episodes got worse. i just wonder what was going through Mike’s mind and how he viewed both relationships. Especially at the Snow Ball, it felt like whiplash to see him so dejected after Will was asked to dance and then immediately afterwards his face lit up when he saw El. Do you think Mike realized his feelings for Will at any point in S2, or did El’s absence allow him to believe he still had feelings for her?
I mean regardless of Byler, Mike cares deeply for Eleven. He became seriously depressed after she died and misbehaved as a cry for help from his parents. Even if his feelings weren't romantic, a kid just watched a close friend of his die in front of his eyes, that's not something you stop caring about. So I don't think that him calling her has to be romantic nessecarily. Mike and Eleven clearly have a deep bond, deeper than Eleven with Mike's other friends, as well.
I joke about how he was just happy a girl wasn't repulsed by him but in all seriousness, Eleven had a huge impact on him and they have a very deep bond with each other. Like Will said in S4, they need each other, and I don't think that has to be a romantic thing. As you said, I think that Mike never felt these feelings with a girl before so over her absence he thought it had to be romantic. So that kiss at the end of the season was part of the excitement of Mike being able to hang out with one of his best friends again which he could've easily interpreted as romantic feelings.
In terms of him realizing his feelings for Will, I always headcanon it as him working it out around S3 when he was actually able to be with Eleven more and not when she was absent. Because when you look at their relationship after that point it feels kind of superficial to me. They just make out a bunch but they don't have that connection that stood out in S1 and S2. If not for Byler, I'd guess it's because puppy love loses its charm after you grow up and because their wasn't that tension of if they'll be able to be together anymore. That could be poor writing or it could be an intentional choice that Mike is starting to work out their relationship isn't going to work so he forces himself into it when it's actually more disingenuous now they're spending more time together.
In terms of the Snow Ball scene, if he was jealous of Will I don't think he'd think it was romantic, he'd probably rationalize it as jealousy he gets to be with someone in public when he can't be with Eleven. And because they're best friends and it's easy to muddle up strong platonic feelings for someone of the opposite sex and romantic and because he no longer felt as jealous because he was distracted by seeing Eleven, he was able to be happy and move on.
Obviously this is just my interpretation of events. I did think they (Mike and Eleven) were cute romantically in S2 I'm not going to lie but I think it's overshadowed by Byler that season and later seasons kind of changed my view on their relationship. I don't think S2 is bad relationship writing if megalovania is canon as it can be explained both platonically and romantically. I don't think if it's meant to be romantic that it was well written in S3 and S4. That's just my thoughts on the matter!
Thanks for the ask, anon.
