OTAL One Ton Amphibious Land Rover, 1965. A prototype built for the Australian army based on a Land Rover One Ton with a six cylinder petrol engine. The cab, wings and rear body are aluminium watertight compartments and all possible space was stuffed with expanded foam for buoyancy. Propulsion and steering was by the tyres. The vehicle went to Australia for trials but was never accepted and returned to the UK. More recently it was fully restored and forms part of the Dunsfold Collection

I kind of like this fishy car: Amphicar 770 (1961–1968), the little man's whimsical yacht, constructed by Hans Trippel. A bowl of grease has always belonged on board. After every trip on the water, 13 nipples had to be lubricated. On solid ground, an estimated 120 km/h was the reward, in the water up to 6.5 knots.

All I want for Christmas: Part 7 – Colani Sea Ranger, 1979. An amphibious one-off concept by aerodynamicist Luigi Colani that was based on Unimog parts and built by Thyssen in Germany. Presented at the Hanover Trade Fair, the centre brochure pic shows Colani's original model for the concept. Features included a rear fisherman's perch and ladders to provide access to the roof. It now resides in Colani's museum
