You know…
… The more I think about it, it’s cool on multiple levels that Nate threatens Moreau w/ Hardison.
There’s the fact that he considers Hardison an impressive, powerful asset, enough to be on par w/ Moreau’s influence over a country. Additionally, Hardison’s skills were instrumental in overthrowing Moreau—Hardison, who Moreau wrote off and had kicked into a pool
But I also kinda find it interesting how he doesn’t mention Eliot at all. The Moreau plot is the only time we see Nate doubt Eliot, something they ultimately power through stronger than ever, but Eliot’s previous service to Moreau is a source of tension. Meanwhile, while he’s not exactly getting personal w/ it bc he has no clue who the rest of the team is initially, Moreau’s attitude towards Eliot does read (to me, at least) as looking down on him, and sorta like he’s still treating him like an underling. Like he thinks of Eliot as a weapon that’s lost its edge since leaving his service, and even just from his indirect comment about ‘white hats,’ I can see him wanting to sort of. Clash w/ Nate over Eliot’s loyalty—esp bc what comes out in these eps is that Eliot is way more loyal to Nate than he ever was to Moreau, that he chooses Nate when he didn’t choose Moreau, and effectively chooses Nate over all old ties or opinions about Moreau. And I can see Moreau, as arrogant as he is, taking issue w/ that almost? Or even just trying to flex his knowledge/power of/over Eliot to imply Nate isn’t ‘using’ him properly or something. It’d be very easy to make that moment about Eliot, treat Eliot as a weapon that they lord over each other or something.
But Nate never gives him the chance. Nate never mentions Eliot, doesn’t threaten Moreau w/ Eliot, doesn’t treat Eliot like some commodity he’s ‘stolen’ from Moreau/Moreau’s influence. Instead, he talks about Hardison, who Moreau has never met before, who Moreau hasn’t exactly been taking seriously. It’s probably not intended in that way, but I just love the implications of that. Bc for one thing Nate’s over that, he and Eliot already reconciled, there’s no reason to bring it up, and it’s a very understated power move, to defy the way it’s implied Moreau saw Eliot, as a super special cool weapon he had to wave around. Bc it’s not about that.
It’s such a… Well, specifically a Crime Dad moment where he’s coming in clutch for both his boys; credit where it’s due to Hardison, and personal respect to Eliot w/ the added bonus of not giving Moreau the satisfaction.

The thing about Nathan Ford is that he is just so very mediocre.
Yeah he's smart or whatever, but despite Leverage really trying to push him as a leading man, he is just Some Guy. He is so startlingly average in every single way, partially due to Timothy Huttons 'Guy who just woke up' looks and partially because his top character traits are: alcoholic, kind of an asshole, divorced, and Plays Chess
He's the most Guy I've ever seen in my life. Truly just unremarkable. His name is Nathan for gods' sakes

i was thinking about how i wished leverage had a birthday episode for some of the characters cause that would be sweet, but then i realised something and basically…. okay here’s my thoughts in quotes form, just for fun
hardison: so when’s your birthday? i could plan something for us and the team to do and-
parker: i dont know
hardison: you don’t know… your own birthday?
parker: no, how would i know? pshh, cmon, you’re telling me you remember EXACTLY when you were born? watch this - hey, eliot, do you know your exact birth date?
eliot, innocently passing by, who was canonically anonymously dropped off at a hospital as an infant: no, how would i know?
parker: that’s what i said!
hardison: excuse me?? what is going on right now
sophie, walking into the apartment: whats wrong?
hardison: parker and eliot- well, okay, when’s your birthday? i just have to prove something.
sophie: …….july 12th
hardison: why did you pause? wait, is that your birthday or sophie devereaux’s birthday?
sophie: ………… (guilty silence)
parker: see, no one knows their real birthday! haha you’re so weird sometimes, hardison
hardison:
hardison: what the fuck guys

Always lowkey simmering a Leverage AU in the back of my head hear me out:
Ted is an ex-insurance investigator who was able to get his son life-saving medical treatment because his first, original Crime Pal Beard was like ‘Ted if your company doesn’t come through with the coverage, we’re doing things my way.’
The company did not come through. The company did let him go due to suspicion of Ted’s involvement in the incident, but Ted will happily remind folks that no charges were formally pressed. Henry is alive and healthy and living with Michelle, who divorced Ted shortly thereafter (not just because of pre-existing marital problems, but because Ted wouldn’t tell her anything about why the doctors “””suddenly decided to do the procedure for free”””). Shortly thereafter, Ted fled the country.
What Ted learned from the whole experience is that there’s a lot of people out there, good people just trying to live by the rules, but sometimes things happen that are just out of their control. And well- if we’ve got the means to help the good people out when no one else will, then shouldn’t we try?
“We’ve got means,” Beard agrees. “And motives.”
They do things Beard’s way now.

the particular bad guy of this episode, a little apprehensively: the audience wants to see me die?

Daily excerpt from Underline the Blue 10:
'Nate,' Temsen said softly, 'you've been taught by your alpha that things have to go a certain way, but if that certain way was going to magically turn you into what he thinks you should be, then it would have worked by now. I know this situation is extremely hard for you, but will you try it our way for a little while? We have no protocol in place that would ever make us give you to a meaner alpha. We just don't work that way. Christian's no idiot, he could have chosen any rehabilitation centre for you, he chose Hillview. He must have been able to see for himself that it was going to be different here.'
Nate didn't take his face away from Janusz' belly and felt like a child.
'You said I'm traumatising Janusz,' Nate said weakly.
'No, sweetheart,' Janusz said. 'It's not like that. The situation is difficult.'
'I don't want to be difficult. And I talk back too much. And I'm too mean. I don't respect anyone's authority enough. Maybe you don't have anyone mean enough.'
A hand resting gently on the top of his head, and Janusz' fingers scratching gently, mussing up his hair.
Temsen took a breath. 'You have one job, Nate, over the next few weeks. And that job is just to...settle in. You're going to have time with Janusz, time to yourself, you'll have your own room, you can ask for things if you need them, and Janusz is going to take you out so you can explore Hillview together. The weather's still warm enough to enjoy the beach, the forests, and I think you could grow to like it here, Nate.'

and yet another thing I'm still not over is kendall's "maybe the poison drips through" bit in the election episode. so.
I know it was meant as kendall's admission that he's not a good father, but I like to think of it as a general showing of how like a lot of things our parents do are going to inevitably become things we ourselves do, whether we're really aware of that or not. logan's uncle beat him, so he beats his kids, etc. etc. but in terms of romantic relationships, the poison absolutely drips through, and it's a terribly addictive one.
I don't know if any of the women who loved logan genuinely loved him. he was a brute, as kendall said. and as I would say, he was a monster. and I'm not sure if any of those women saw any good part of him, or maybe they just wanted to believe they saw something good in him. and of course, I believe the same of stewy. that there's too much affection involved for him to not think it's love, to not think kendall is good in some way. and I think that's why both marcia and caroline seem to like stewy, they can spot it a mile away. he's the child weaned on poison. he's the one that picks kendall over and over again. he's the kicked dog. he's the one in love with someone who will break their heart and replace them the next day.
and kendall kicks him! he breaks his heart! he says he'd kill stewy if he fucked him over, and stewy said he'd do the same! they kick each other! because that's how kendall shows love. that's how he saw love between his parents. and it's what he does to stewy, but stewy comes back. rava doesn't come back, naomi doesn't come back. and I don't know if stewy recognized that it was just some stupid test or not, but he passed it!
