#and cares about vlad from a personal standpoint
Note
Hello! Sorry if my English is not as good 😅, but I really love your insightful thoughts about the characters and how you describe Comte 😍. If it's not an annoyance, I wanted to ask something about Charles (I know his route is not out yet and there is not much information about him). I've been seeing in some posts that Vlad did something to him in Dazai's route (i'm not sure what really happened) and i'm really curious about it, because even though it's known that Vlad uses his powers against his people, i can't really picture it due to the way Charles acts towards him with so much affection ?🤔 or admiration... (I guess it's because of his personality or trauma, behavior that it's different from Faust, who acts cautiously with Vlad) So it's something i'm truly curious about. Sorry for bothering you and Thank you!
Welcome welcome! Please don’t worry, I had no trouble at all understanding you, your English is great! ❤️❤️❤️ As for what I know about Charles, my information is limited due to the nature of his content so far--I haven’t seen a ton about him quite yet. But in Dazai’s route we get a glimpse into his situation due to his increased screentime there.
I’m just going to put a spoilers warning here for Dazai’s JPN rt, since that’s where I’ve learned the most about Charles:
Charles is indeed a very affectionate and generally genki boy as far as interpretations go, but there are heavy implications that Vlad is manipulating him on a profound psychological level. I say this only because there is plenty of evidence that Charles’ behavior isn’t quite his own at points, and because Dazai himself proves it to be true.
One piece of information that is necessary before delving too deep is that Charles finds MC’s handkerchief at one point early on and develops a sudden curiosity/desire to see her. While a person could just assume he was curious, I don’t personally believe that curiosity went without surveillance or intervention--since Vlad was there the whole time.
My best guess is that Vlad wanted to find out more about MC and perhaps use her as bait to manipulate Dazai (or threaten Comte), but Dazai already offered him something interesting in wanting to warp the flow of time--so Charles’ relationship with her was only collateral in the end. While Charles did have some level of sincere feeling for MC, it’s later revealed that it was ostensibly an obsession and did not operate on a normal level of personable feeling.
The way Dazai further proves that Charles’ mind has been manipulated is that, when Dazai begins to suggest that Vlad is essentially a con-man that intends to use Charles for murder no matter the cost to his mental health, Charles reacts with unnatural distress. It’s not the kind of refusal a person would normally have at the suggestion of someone’s betrayal of their loyalty, where they reject it and are uneasy but otherwise aren’t physically controlled by the emotion. Charles seems unable to mentally handle the suggestion that Vlad’s intentions aren’t good at all--that he’s lying--to the point where Charles nearly collapses from the intensity of the dissonance between his own mind and the parts Vlad is forcing into obedience.
There is also a scene following Charles’ intense mental distress where Vlad essentially interrogates Charles as to his loyalty, and gives the overtone that any kind of disobedience will be swiftly destroyed if he sees it. Faust tries to protect Charles as best he can, but his power is limited compared to Vlad’s.
Furthermore, Vlad is Charles’ sire (aka Charles’ creator as a vampire)--if he can command and manipulate Shakespeare as well as people extraneous to him so easily, I really doubt Charles would be beyond his control. The only reason Faust seems to have more agency and stability is that Faust is highly attached to his own internal emotional compass and what he believes in. (The keyword here is “seems”, if I’m honest I’m not 100% sure if Vlad isn’t still there in his mind, subtly manipulating him to the darker sides of his nature.) Charles, as much as I love him, seems even more susceptible to the emotional/motivational overtones of others around him. I mean Faust even uses a similar tactic to help Charles, in that he slowly walks him through to the solution, and Charles never once questions his judgement or thought process because it feels right to him. If you think about it Shakespeare is much the same way; he’s so obsessed with the creation of his plays and public reception to them that he is easily manipulated because he lacks personal grounding. Vincent, despite his gentle nature, is not half so susceptible to this manipulation because he is immovable at his core. There are moral lengths he will not go to no matter the intentionality, and his inspirations come from deep within. Even Dazai is too mentally strong to be controlled due to his immense love for other people. Vlad also cannot control him because he loves MC so deeply he would never betray that trust, the only single time he betrays it is when he seeks suicide (which is more about fighting his mental illness and self-harm than it is about hurting MC).
If I’m honest, I think Charles may want to believe in the best of Vlad. But I don’t think that necessarily means that Vlad is not manipulating him to his own ends, or that he isn’t causing Charles significant psychological distress/dissonance throughout the game. Charles seems like the type to want to believe in people even if he knows that belief might be misplaced. As for Vlad, I have little to no reason to believe he is not hurting Charles. He does not consider Charles his son in any capacity, and openly treats both Charles and Faust like tools to a greater end. With Vlad, only the results matter--the means are irrelevant.

Vlad trying to woo smol!fem!human reader
Understandable... I didn’t really know what standpoint to do this from. I ended up deciding on one where the reader takes the position of Lisa when she first meets Vlad. I hope that’s okay, I personally just can’t see Vlad falling in love with anyone else after Lisa. Anyways...

"The Ultimate Enemy" has the best pre-opening-titles scene in all of "Danny Phantom". Discuss.
False. For this statement assumes that this is fact rather than opinion. Yet there are opening scenes with fewer flaws and inconsistencies, as well as those that others might simply find more enjoyable.
Remember, TUE doesn’t really build on anything seen in the episodes before it. In fact, the opening scene throws a ton of information at us out of nowhere. We’re left with a ton of questions, some of which are never answered. The Fright Knight appears, but then he’s never seen again in the entire episode.
It’s effective. It’s grabs the audiences attention. It’s suspenseful. It has superb animation. However, it fails in other aspects, and if the merits aren’t what you’re looking for, it’s far from the best.
Plus, the first thing we see is a cockroach, and that’s hardly a good first impression.
From a subjective standpoint, I can absolutely see why someone would like it the most. There’s no opening scene that leaves people on the edge of their seat as much. I doubt any phan would want to turn off the TV after seeing that. They’d have to know what happens!
Personally, though, I like D-Stabilized’s opening scene the best. Instead of introducing new things that we don’t understand, it brings back something we’re already familiar with. We know Danielle, but we don’t know what happened to her. And since she’s one of my favorite characters, she’s someone I want to see come back. Not only that, but we knew she was unstable, and now we see she’s more of a mess. I’m excited to see a previous story continue, and I’m worried about what’ll happen to Danielle. She also doesn’t know Vlad’s in Amity Park, and he finds out immediately that she’s there. Then Valerie shows up!
There are a lot of stakes that I feel personally invested in, and rather than questioning everything that’s going on, I just want to see what happens to the characters I already care about. I understand the stakes, I just need to find out how the characters will react to them. Will Valerie become an antagonist or not in this episode? Will Danielle reach Danny first, or will Vlad and Valerie find her?
You’re allowed to like TUE’s opening scene more, but it’s not very high up there for me.

Vitalik's Serious Joke: The Case for Ending Ethereum Inflation
New Post has been published on https://cryptnus.com/2018/04/vitaliks-serious-joke-the-case-for-ending-ethereum-inflation/
Vitalik's Serious Joke: The Case for Ending Ethereum Inflation
It turns out, Vitalik wasn’t exactly joking.
Sure, that might be what most people thought when ethereum’s creator published a controversial proposal on April Fool’s Day, but the post has prompted a very real, very serious conversation about whether the underlying economics of the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency should be altered.
In fact, in the weeks since the concept was first floated, dialogue has only gotten more heated about the idea that a limit could be placed on the total number of ether, ethereum’s cryptocurrency, that could ever be created. And while it’s long been a contentious topic (there isn’t currently a cap), the rate at which new coins are being introduced into the market has been growing.
Buterin appears aware of the concern, citing “economic sustainability” as the reason he wants to stop creating new ether when 120 million are introduced. In fact, he believes limiting the market supply to exactly that figure, twice the number of ether sold in the platform’s 2014 ethereum fundraising, could help long term.
In a developer meeting last week, Buterin outlined his rationale further, and while his comments were initially greeted with giggles from other core developers, the atmosphere quickly gave way to serious reflection.
From a technical standpoint, the change would be easy to implement, and pending sufficient community support, it could be executed with a simple code fix as part of ethereum’s next system-wide software update.
On one side, the concept has been applauded by ether investors. Lacking a formal stance on similar to say, bitcoin’s limited 21 million bitcoin supply, some investors have remained cautious, if not confused, about whether they should put their money in.
Nevertheless, the proposed issuance cap has also been the brunt of heavy criticism.
For one, critics cite ether’s role for the platform’s security and are warning that the introduction of a cap would make the cryptocurrency a pure speculative investment play, something that many developers worry will make updating the protocol more challenging. Others take offense with what they claim is a poorly timed, if not poorly researched issue.
“I don’t think that we have the understanding required to actually meaningfully know what we would be consenting to,” Vlad Zamfir, a leading developer behind ethereum’s upcoming proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, wrote in a blogpost. “The numbers seem completely arbitrary,” another critic wrote.
And a vocal opponent of the proposal, ethereum developer Nick Johnson tweeted:
“[The post] has degraded into a bunch of people arguing pseudo economics with each other, as if ethereum were designed first and foremost to be an economy and not a computing system.”
The arguments against
Sure enough, the critics seem particularly worried about what the economic incentives could mean for ether’s role as a “crypto fuel” for the network.
“Ether has a primary intrinsic purpose on the ethereum protocol, that is, to be consumed as a resource with which to run calculations upon a computational machine,” an independent ethereum developer, Darryl Morris, wrote in a blog post.
According to Morris, ether’s use as an investment tool shouldn’t be prioritized over its ability to secure and protect the protocol, something he thinks the proposal would do.
Speaking at a developer meeting Friday, Johnson echoed similar points. Because such a limit would, theoretically, cause the value of ether to rise, transactions that burn small amounts of ether would be disincentivized.
“Funding through transaction fees encourages holding and discourages an active ecosystem,” Johnson said. Continuing, Johnson said this would lead to a harmful spiral, where “costs go up because transactions are fewer and that leads to fewer transactions and so forth.”
And the opposition started some time before Buterin’s recent proposal. Zamfir, for example, has spoken out against putting a limit on the issuance of ether in the past. Speaking to CoinDesk in February, Zamfir described the discussion as “bikeshedding.”
He told CoinDesk:
“The entire cryptocurrency HODLer scene is apparently obsessed about issuance policies, even though issuance has very, very, very little to do with a cryptocurrency’s success.”
He further speculated that, should a cap be passed, miners might have reasons to inherently oppose the idea, since a hard cap could limit their future payouts.
“Hodlers and miners have obvious major conflicts of interests which makes it impossible to count on them to care about any notion of public good or even any kind of impartial truth about optimal parameters,” Zamfir said.
Speaking in a blog post, Zamfir continued to state that understanding of the matter is limited, and using scarcity as an investment value-add is “stupid and annoying at best.”
And finally, others have argued that an issuance cap would raise the cost of entry into the network, something that contradict the long-standing value proposition of keeping these costs low so that anyone can participate and in turn, make the network more decentralized.
Speaking to that, one Reddit user wrote: “Great if you want to maximize your personal wealth, but shit if you want to create a decentralized economy.”
The arguments in favor
But from Buterin’s research, none of these things hold true.
In the developer meeting last week, Buterin stressed that transaction fees are not proportional to the price of ether, but rather reflect demand for the ethereum platform. This means that irrespective of a price rise, if the numbers of transactions remain the same, fees on the platform would not increase.
Plus, according to him, it isn’t up to ethereum to provide an affordable entry into cryptocurrency, that instead, new cryptocurrencies will provide that onramp.
“Crypto can avoid being too inegalitarian through [the] emergence of new coins, not through any single coin being super-inflationary,” Buterin tweeted.
While the inflation rate on ethereum is currently quite low, Buterin contended that even small rates of inflation are a “huge deal” in the context of financial market returns.
With an unlimited supply, Buterin warned that ether could even be surpassed in market capitalization by one of the ERC-20 tokens that have been launched on top of ethereum. As tokens can be programmed without inflation, Buterin explained, “basically every ERC-20 token becomes a better store of value than ETH.”
And on the topic of miner payouts, Buterin argued at the meeting that rather than miners being paid with newly-created ether, miners could, in the future, be paid directly by transaction fees.
According to Buterin, that change would be simple to implement, since all the remaining ether could be locked into a smart contract, and dished out to miners via fees over time.
“It would set any rewards to be proportional to the balance remaining inside of the contract,” Buterin said.
And while rewards would decrease as the total ETH supply converges toward its limit – potentially disincentivizing miners – Buterin said that inflation poses a similar risk. “If we have a cryptocurrency which is inflationary then that could lead to its value dropping, which by itself leads to less capital securing the network,” Buterin said.
And though he admits that it’s a complicated thing to measure, Buterin said, “I personally do think that there’s evidence that basically transaction fee levels are capable of providing enough revenue to secure a blockchain.”
He added:
“And in the long run, if they’re not, then there’s the question of well, how valuable is the system that we’re building in the first place.”
