Hello all! This is the first fic I'm posting here, called Concerning Prussians! Also on ao3 under the same name :D
Set in Nationverse in the 90's, human and nation names used
A sleepless Prussia finds himself in the guest bedroom of his home, where Canada is also still awake. A late-night chat turns into possibly the sweetest way to fall asleep.
The stuccoed ceiling above Prussia’s head held infinite shapes he was quite bored of finding. Sleep had never come easy to the nation, even before the half-century of torture at the hands of Russia. His incredibly sharp memory had a bad habit of bringing up past traumas and memories as soon as the lights were out. Some he could dismiss easily. Silly mistakes he’d made as a child nearly five hundred years ago were simply passing thoughts. Memories of the glorified walk-in closet he’d stayed in at Russia’s house, however, were much fresher. Five years had passed since the Wall fell and the albino was reunited with the rest of the world. Five years was hardly any time to process anything.
Gilbert sighed and sat up in bed. The red glow of his digital clock told him it was just about midnight. His internal clock would wake him up at six in the morning, without fail. The sandman would have to smack him over the head with a brick to get him to sleep at this point. Oh well… maybe a midnight snack was in order. Prussia fumbled through the dark until he found the door and opened it silently. His crimson irises were immediately drawn to the light pouring out from under the guest bedroom door. Perhaps he wasn’t the only one unable to sleep?
The first time Germany forgot to book Canada a hotel was excusable. The Wall had just fallen, after all, and the normally well-organised man was in shambles. Gilbert felt a small measure of relief as the memory of the North American staying for a few days drove away the phantom smell of vodka and blood. Canada had brought his guitar with him then, and had played for Prussia for hours. It was the first time he’d heard music in decades.
Gilbert chuckled to himself as he walked down the hall and further into his memories. He’d been weary of Canada at first. All he knew of the maple-loving nation was the brutality with which he slayed his enemies in both World Wars. Canada’s Hundred Days was a string of defeats the albino would probably never forget. If he’d had the words to protest, he was sure he would never have allowed the man in his home so soon after regaining his freedom. He would have foolishly denied himself the chance to get to know Canada.
The blond was incredible in battle, yes, but he was so much more than his past glories. He was a breath of fresh air among the stale haze of Europe. He was quiet, until one got to know him and his particular brand of chaos a little better. He smelled of sweet syrup and pine trees, and his arms were surprisingly strong. The hug he’d given Prussia before heading back home was a memory the albino often revisited when he needed something to banish the darkness in his mind.
Perhaps Germany had noticed that Canada had walked past his brother’s walls as if they weren’t ever there during that stay. Maybe that’s why, once again, he’d forgotten to book Canada a hotel. Prussia silently thanked his dear relative as he stopped at the guest bedroom door. He knocked on it in three sharp raps, expecting at least some movement in the room. His silver brows furrowed in confusion as he heard no answer. Had the man fallen asleep with the light on? The albino decided to take a peek in the room. No point in waking Matthew up if he were asleep. There was a fridge to raid anyways. Prussia just barely opened the door, enough to see what was going on. He felt his heart skip a beat as he took in the sight.
Canada was, in fact, awake. The chunky black headphones he wore that were connected to his Walkman explained why he hadn’t heard the Prussian knock. His wavy blond hair was tied back in a low ponytail, more than likely so it wouldn’t get in the way as he read his book. Gilbert thought the strands that hadn’t made it into the elastic framed the man’s face almost as nicely as his circular glasses did. He recalled how Canada’s purple eyes had scared him, at first. They reminded him far too much of Russia’s. But he’d quickly learned that there was a kindness in them that was unlike anything he’d seen in anyone else. They were beautiful. Matthew was beautiful.
Prussia steeled his sudden, strange nerve and opened the door all the way. He knocked once more and smirked as the motion finally caught Canada’s attention. The man slipped his headphones off his ears and rested them around his neck in one fluid motion. He kept his music playing, but set his book on his lap to give his full attention to his unexpected guest.
“Oh! Good evening, Prussia. Do you need something?”
The concern with which the blond asked his question brought a softer smile to Gilbert’s lips. He walked into the room and shut the door behind him. Violet eyes followed him curiously as he sat on the edge of the smallish bed. He could just barely hear the sounds of Guns n’ Roses coming from the headphones that sat on Canada’s freckled collarbone. Not that he was looking, of course.
“Can’t sleep. I guess I’m just too awesome for the sandman to visit, hm? He must be afraid of me!”
Canada chuckled and stopped his music. Clearly, the albino intended on staying for at least a little while. “That must be it. I’m sorry didn’t bring my guitar this time, or I would play for you again.”
“Ah, that’s okay. I suppose I’ll survive without hearing you play for another five years. What are you doing still awake, though?”
“Oh, I’m just reading Fellowship of the Ring again. I always have trouble sleeping when I come to Europe.”
“Fellowship of the Ring, huh? Never heard of it.”
Matthew seemed a little surprised by this revelation, but quickly remembered why that might have been the case. The Iron Curtain had been brutally effective in keeping its prisoners isolated, after all.
“The author wrote it after the Great War. This is a terrible summary, but it’s a fantasy series about this Hobbit named Frodo who has to take a ring to a volcano and throw it in to save the world from being completely overrun by evil! It’s my favourite series of all time.”
Gilbert couldn’t help but laugh a little. The premise seemed… childish. Melting a ring couldn’t possibly save the world. “So what you’re telling me is that you’re a huge nerd. Do you play that Dungeons and Dragons game, too?”
Canada’s cheeks flushed pink. He rolled his eyes at his guest, who’s smirk threatened to split his face. “No, I’m not that much of a nerd. It’s a good series though, I promise. I think everyone should try to read it.”
“Not me! I’m way too awesome to be caught reading about Bobbitses and volcanoes, or whatever.”
“You’re not even going to give it a chance?”
“Nein. You can stick with your dorky literature, I’ll keep reading…. Er, something else. Something way cooler!”
“Hm. I didn’t want to have to resort to this, but you’ve left me with no choice. I have a fact about the author, Tolkien, that might interest you.”
“I’m listening. Though I don’t know what could possibly interest me enough to get me to read this book.”
The blond leaned a little closer with a smirk of his own, fully aware that this little tidbit of information was an ace in the hole. “Tolkien was from England. But, I’ve heard that his family was from Kreuzberg in East Prussia.”
Gilbert sat in stunned silence for a few moments, before he finally sighed and accepted defeat. He almost felt obligated to read the works of someone who’s family came from his formerly great nation. Even if the subject matter sounded a little silly. “...Alright, move over. If you’re going to drag me kicking and screaming into your weird nerd story, the least you can do is flip the pages for me.”
Canada was more than happy to make room for the Prussian to sit beside him. He set his Walkman and headphones on the nightstand while his new reading buddy got comfortable under the blankets. “Just let me know when I can turn the page.”
It quickly became obvious that Prussia was struggling with the reading material. He leaned closer to get a better look at the words on the page and try to sound them out in his head. Whole sections had to be reread as he tried so hard to understand what was written. As such, the pace was painfully slow for Matthew. They got about five pages in before the blond set the book down and looked at the frustrated albino.
“Having some trouble?”
“Ja. It’s not my fault English is a stupid language when it’s written, though.”
“...Do you want me to read to you?”
Gilbert searched the taller one’s face for any hint of pity or malice. Instead, he found the gentle, kind eyes that had a knack for tearing down his walls. There were no expectations behind the question. Just a quiet desire to share a story that clearly meant a lot to Canada. Prussia nodded, and the soft smile he received in return found itself a loving home in his long memory.
“Get comfortable, then.”
Nothing would be more comfortable than to be in Matthew’s arms. Gilbert slid down enough to rest his head over the man’s heart. He wrapped his arm around the blond’s waist, and tangled their legs together. Crimson eyes closed with a sigh of contentment as, at last, he felt strong arms wrap around him once more. He felt the corner of the book on his hip and simply snuggled in closer. Canada smelled like pine trees and maple syrup. His embrace felt like a heaven Prussia didn’t think he would be allowed into. His voice, as he started reading, was a gentle river that carried the albino far from the troubles of the world and into the land of Middle Earth.
Gilbert found himself quite invested in the tale of Frodo. The emotion with which he was told the story truly made it come to life in his imagination. Canada’s voice had an almost musical quality to it that lent itself well to describing the fantastic landscapes and peoples of Tolkien’s world. The heart he put into every syllable was not lost on the albino in his arms. As he listened, Prussia came to realise that the summary he’d been given earlier was indeed terrible. This wasn’t just a story about Frodo, or the ring, or even the quest to save the world. This was a story about hope. Hope in the face of impossible odds, hope for a future that seemed so desperately far away. Prussia found it quite easy to relate.
The rumble of Matthew’s voice in his chest proved an effective lullaby for Gilbert. He tried so hard to stay awake, to hear how the Battle for Helm’s Deep would turn out. But the hour was late, and the sandman had arrived at last. The last thing he remembered before sleep claimed him was a softly whispered wish for sweet dreams from Canada.
In the morning, Germany was quite confused to see his brother’s room both open and empty. His confusion was alleviated as he opened the other bedroom door to check on the guest. He found Prussia and Canada still in each other’s arms, fast asleep, and a book on the bed beside them. Neither stirred as Germany quietly closed the door to give them a little more time to rest. The tall man smiled softly to himself as he made his way downstairs to start breakfast. His brother looked so content, so… safe, in Canada’s arms. Perhaps forgetting to book Matthew a hotel was something Germany would have to remember to do more often.

At Vauxhall Gardens, [...] giant paintings were erected in the “Pillared Saloon” of seemingly geographically opposed colonial wars: one painting of The Battle of Plassey (1757), which secured Bengal for the British East India Company, hung next to another symmetrical work that portrayed the British capture of Montreal and, later, Canada itself. That these and other sizable aesthetic works were “designed to be an immersive virtual-reality experience” testifies to Cohen’s larger claim in The Global Indies that 18th-century fashion, rank, sociability, and class were intimately bound up with race and colonialism, particularly through the period’s joint imaginary of the  “Indies.” The Indies describes a shared fantasy - and unquestionable material reality - of wealth accumulation that yoked together the “West” (the Caribbean and North America) and “East” (the Indian subcontinent) Indies in late 18th-century British culture, a conceptual proximity so thorough and unrelenting that its effects reverberate throughout the contemporary  [...].
---
The prelude to Ashley L. Cohen’s The Global Indies opens in a pleasure garden - not just any such garden, but the largest and most spectacular of these 18th-century sites of fashionable culture [...]: London’s Vauxhall Garden. At Vauxhall, Londoners who could afford the entrance fee were treated to an array of wonders and excesses. A well-known chapter entitled “Vauxhall” in William Makepeace Thackeray’s Vanity Fair (1847–’48), for example, finds Jos Sedley, an “indolent” officer of the East India Company recently returned to London, drunk off the garden’s signature “rack punch.”  “Everybody had rack punch at Vauxhall,” [...]. Lest a reader mistake punch for a mere artifact of the pleasure garden or a one-off comedic incident, “that bowl of rack punch was the cause of all this history,” the narrator stresses about his unfolding novel. [...]
Punch, an alcoholic drink popular with colonial officers of the East India Company, was usually made with a combination of five ingredients including sugar cane and spices, and probably derives from the Sanskrit word “pancha,” meaning five (and  invites an etymological link with the Persian panj and with Bengali five-spice mix, panch phoreen). Rack punch’s association with Vauxhall, with India, and with Vanity Fair’s narrative construction was hardly a stretch for Thackeray’s Victorian readers, and probably registered as quite natural, though it carried more than a whiff of the unseemly. But then again, to 18th-century Britons, “natural and a little unseemly” could easily describe the “worldwide empire that stretched from the East to the West Indies” [...].
---
It’s tricky business to think seriously inside of the 18th-century’s analytic tools, but The Global Indies pulls it off, not least because Cohen is appropriately blunt [...], reminding readers of the everyday racism of the Georgians and their fashionable sociability. [...] [T]he “Indies mentality” enters a critical landscape that has lately taken up the connections between geographically far-flung events in modernity: North American settler colonialism, Atlantic slavery, colonialism in India, and the migration of Chinese and South Asian indentured labor.
Lest these all seem like separate histories that have produced separate discursive notions of race, critics like Lisa Lowe, Jodi Byrd, Tao Leigh Goffe, and now Cohen assure us that they are not, and that our modern ideas about race are intimately shaped by the interconnected and forced movements of Black and brown people across the world. [...] Cohen spells out how British liberal reformers and abolitionists found a solution to ending West Indian slavery in the continuation of so-called “free” wage labor in Bengal. Sugar produced by Bengali peasants laboring under the threat of starvation came to replace sugar produced on West Indian plantations well into the 19th and 20th centuries. One only has to look up the multiple Bengal famines (1769–1770, and 1943) to calculate its effects. [...] [T]he architects of the [American transcontinental] railroad “imagined a new era of US hegemony in a mold cast by the imaginative geographies of British imperialism.”

This summer, a Vancouver car mechanic named Max got a perplexing ping on his phone: Betty White was in Ukraine and needed his help. This was surprising because she had died on a Canadian highway back in January.
When Max last saw Betty White, his nickname for his Tesla Model Y Performance, they were both in rough shape after getting sideswiped on the highway. Max’s rotator cuff was torn in several places. The small SUV had bounced off multiple concrete barriers at high speed and was bashed in on all four corners, its wheels ripped to pieces. Coolant appeared to be leaking into the battery chamber. From his own work on EVs in the garage, Max knew that Betty was done for. “No auto shop would put a repair person at risk with that kind of damage,” says Max, whose last name isn’t being used out of doxing concerns. A damaged EV battery can become dangerous due to the risk of shocks, fire, and toxic fumes. His insurer agreed, and Betty was written off and sent to a salvage yard.
Months after he had last seen the car, Max’s Tesla app was now telling him that Betty needed a software update. It showed the car with an extra 200 kilometers on the odometer, fully charged, and parked in Uman, a town in Ukraine’s Cherkasy Oblast, midway between Kyiv and the front line with Russia’s invasion force. Minutes after that first ping, the app showed the car in service mode, suggesting Betty was undergoing repairs. “I thought it must be a mistake,” Max says.
There was no mistake. WIRED tracked Betty down to a Ukrainian auto auction website, looking good as new, maybe even better, with newly tinted windows and rearview mirrors wrapped in black. Betty 2.0 was being sold by “Mikhailo,” who wrote that the car had suffered “a small blow” in Canada and been repaired with original Tesla parts. The price, $55,000, was roughly the same as a new Model Y Performance costs in the US.
Betty White’s intercontinental resurrection was impressive but not unusual. For a long time, cars written off in North America have found their way to Eastern European repair shops willing to take on damage that US and Canadian mechanics won’t touch. In 2021, the most recent data available, Ukraine was a top-three destination for used US passenger vehicles sent overseas, close behind Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. And Ukraine’s wreck importers and repairers are particularly known for their ingenuity. Some have made fixing EVs written off across the Atlantic into a specialty, helping to drive a surge in the number of electric vehicles on the country’s roads, even as the war with Russia rages.
Though few automakers sell new EVs in Ukraine, the share of newly registered vehicles that are fully electric, 9 percent, is about the same as in the US and nearly double that of neighboring Poland and the Czech Republic. Most of Ukraine’s refurbished EVs come from North America, and many arrive with major damage.
There’s a ready supply of crashed North American EVs in part because electrics are becoming more common, and also because in recent years, relatively new EVs with low mileage have been written off at a higher rate than their gas-powered equivalents, according to data from insurers. US and Canadian repair shops and insurers see them as more dangerous and difficult to fix. Scrapyards find it hard to make money from their parts and instead ship them abroad.
Ivan Malakhovsky is not afraid to work on cases like Betty White. His five-year-old repair business in Dnipro, in eastern Ukraine, fixes about 100 Teslas a month, roughly a fifth of them from overseas, and employs a staff that varies between six to 10 people. He’s currently away from home, serving with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but he manages his workers, and sometimes makes software-mediated repairs, remotely. “We have problems in our lives and can fix them, whether a battery or a full-scale invasion,” says Malakhovsky. “Electric cars, electric car batteries—it’s no problem.”
An electric vehicle battery is made up of thousands of individual cells, which store and release energy. Sometimes, Malakhovsky says, he and his coworkers will break up large EV batteries damaged beyond repair and repurpose the cells to power electric scooters or even drones for the war effort. He says the vast majority of Teslas on Ukrainian roads were once involved in wrecks in North America.
The war has even boosted Ukraine’s EV resurrection business at times, by driving up gas prices and making electrics more attractive to drivers. Ukraine has a public charging network of some 11,000 chargers, according to Volodymyr Ivanov, the head of communications at Nissan Motor Ukraine—that’s more than the state of New York, and double the number in neighboring Poland. Since 2018, Ukraine’s government has removed most taxes and customs duties on used EV imports. In the US, electric vehicles tend to be expensive, and the average EV driver is still a high-income male homeowner. North American wrecks, Ukraine’s EV incentives, and its relatively low electricity prices have created a different picture. “There is a joke here that all poor people are driving electric cars, and all the rich people are driving petrol cars,” says Malakhovsky. “Tesla is a common-people, popular car because it’s very cheap in maintenance.”
That’s a relatively recent development, says Hans Eric Melin, head of Circular Energy Storage, a UK-based consultancy that tracks the international flows of used EVs and batteries. He began watching the Ukraine market in particular a few years ago, after he noticed more ads for Nissan Leafs on auction sites listed in Ukrainian than in English. At the time, the Leaf, a pioneer among EVs, was essentially the only one that had been around long enough to develop a healthy used market. Over time, Ukraine’s electric fleet grew to encompass the full range of EVs sold around the world, including Teslas, as more cars hit the roads and aged or got into crashes.
Melin had suspected Ukraine’s EV boom would end with the war. “I was completely wrong,” he says. By this summer, Ukraine’s EV fleet had doubled since July 2021, to 64,312, according to data compiled by the Automotive Market Research Institute, a Ukrainian research and advocacy group.
Tumblr media
Roman Tyschenko, a 25-year-old IT worker who lives in Kyiv, decided last September that he was sick of his Jeep’s $400-a-month gas bill. Friends had purchased used, damaged electric cars on an online auction website called Copart, a US-based public auto reseller with 200 locations around the world. He logged on and spent $24,000 on a gray 2021 Tesla Model Y that had taken a solid blow to its passenger side in Dallas, Texas. Its bumper was almost fully detached; its hood was tented; some of its airbags had deployed.
That Texan Model Y was likely declared totaled by an insurer. From there, it probably moved to a salvage auction in the US, where licensed exporters, salvage shops, and repairers tried to figure out how much value they could squeeze out of the wreck. The winner, or perhaps the insurer itself, listed the car on Copart, which made it available to anyone around the world who wanted a smashed-up Tesla and was willing to pay for shipping.
If Tyschenko hadn’t brought the Texan Tesla to Ukraine himself, it had a good chance of being shipped there anyway by someone who professionally flips cars to countries like Ukraine. These exporters look for wrecks potentially worth more than their scrap value, but little enough that an expensive US repair and resale wouldn’t make sense. Some ship vehicles directly to Ukrainian repairers and pay for the fix, while others import damaged cars and relist them for sale to Ukrainian buyers who can figure it out for themselves.
It takes a damaged North American car between one and five months to reach a nearby port. Before the war, wrecked cars headed to Ukraine’s Port of Odessa on the Black Sea. Since Russia invaded in 2022, they come through Klaipėda in Lithuania on the Baltic Sea, or Koper in Slovenia on the Adriatic, and are brought to Ukraine by truck. A shop like Malakhovsky’s can fix a Tesla in somewhere between one week and one year, depending on the damage.
Tyschenko arranged for his Model Y to be shipped to a local repair shop in Kyiv, where it arrived in February 2023, five months after he hit the Buy button online. The technician sent him videos of the EV’s ongoing revamp every few weeks, and Tyschenko stopped by to visit a handful of times. By May, he had paid the technician some $25,000 for his work and was driving the Model Y around Kyiv.
Two months later, the battery died and Tyschenko spent another $4,000 to replace it—a demonstration of the risks of electric vehicle rescues. Still, he’s happy with how things worked out, and now pays just $10 to $100 a month to refuel his car, depending on whether he charges at home or at public stations.
Finding parts to repair Teslas and other EVs can be a challenge. On Facebook and Telegram, groups like “Renault Zoe Club Ukraine” host thousands of EV owners who barter with each other for spare parts. Oleksandr Perepelitsa, a 25-year-old electric vehicle repairer in Kyiv, says that when he first began his work three years ago, he and his business partners would buy two wrecked Teslas from overseas to create a single working vehicle to sell to local Ukranians. “Even that was profitable for us,” he says. Now, business connections can send Tesla parts from the US or Europe, or repairers buy cheaper Chinese reproductions.

The success of Ukraine’s EV resurrection industry is the flip side of the failure of insurers and manufacturers in North America to figure out what to do when a shiny new EV becomes roadkill.
US insurers are more willing to write off vehicles of all kinds that in the past may have been fixed. New vehicle repairs have gotten more expensive, in part due to vehicles getting more complex and computerized, as well as a shortage of vehicle technicians. In the past decade, the damaged cars up for auction “are better and less damaged,” Copart CEO Jeff Liaw told investors on an earnings call this year.
Industry-wide data is hard to come by, but numerous sources suggest that EVs are more likely to be written off than gas-powered cars, and can be declared unfixable after even minor crashes. A Reuters analysis this year found that a “large portion” of damaged EVs sold for scrap were low-mileage, nearly-new vehicles. While one in 10 new cars sold in the US and Canada this year are forecasted to be electric, the infrastructure and expertise needed to assess and fix damaged EVs can be patchy. “In an ideal world, electric vehicles are as easy to repair as internal combustion engine vehicles,” says Mark Fry, research manager at Thatcham Research, which crunches auto market data for insurers and other clients. It recently found British EVs get written off at disproportionately high rates.
The main reason EV repairs are so tricky comes down to a lack of agreement on how to handle EV batteries after a crash. Worldwide, there is no industry standard for measuring battery health. Vehicle manufacturers sometimes refuse to sanction battery repairs because of liability concerns. “If you repair the battery, what's it going to be like after another two, three years and another 50,000 miles?” Fry says. It’s easier to let nearly new vehicles be declared dead than to find out.
The North American scrap industry is also somewhat leery of EVs, says Megan Slattery, a researcher at UC Davis who studies what happens to damaged EV batteries. Scrap businesses generally make money by taking cars apart to extract the most valuable widgets to resell. But dismantling a battery takes dedicated workers, equipment, and—most important of all—space, due to the fire risks of storing lithium-ion cells. Many mom-and-pop dismantlers don’t have any of that.
Plus, EVs tend to have simpler drivetrains, with more plastic and large, prefabricated body components that can’t be easily pulled apart. In some electric vehicles, the battery is built directly into the car’s structure, making it especially difficult to dismantle or repair. All of that means that exporters looking to sell to eager buyers abroad have less competition when bidding on totaled cars.
In the US, there’s increasing pressure to keep broken EVs from heading overseas. Regulators are concerned about safety, hoping to better track broken batteries through shipping channels as fears rise of fires sparked by used EVs, including on cargo ships. Another is to avoid dumping e-waste on countries without the means to recycle or repurpose, and instead keep the valuable minerals inside batteries local. Battery recycling startups have received vast amounts of private and public investment—both in Western Europe and the US, with funds from the Inflation Reduction Act—with a promise to help shore up raw material supply chains. But so far, they have received only a trickle of used batteries.
Policies that wind up choking off the export of EV wrecks would in some ways be a shame, Slattery says. More stringent European Union export rules for used cars and EV batteries in particular are one reason why the supply of Teslas to Eastern Europe is so dependent on North American wrecks. Without them, the electric revolution would be much less advanced in places like Ukraine, where US and Canadian write-offs have helped support the emergence of charger networks, trained repair specialists, and a wide familiarity and acceptance that electric propulsion is not just green but also practical.
In North America, there's a widespread belief that “people don't want electric vehicles and that it's just laws and regulations that push us to buy them,” says Melin, the used EV analyst. “There are other markets that want to have electrics.” It’s a testament to a system that is working, Melin adds, that used EVs end up in places like Ukraine, where new models are difficult to come by.
For Max in Vancouver, Betty White’s reappearance overseas did cause some headaches. The car was still logged into his Google, Netflix, and Spotify accounts, potentially allowing the new owners to access his personal data. When he asked Tesla support, he was advised to change his passwords, Max says. (Tesla did not respond to WIRED’s questions.)
But looking back on the crash, and now driving a new Model Y—named Black Betty—Max says his old car’s resurrection is the best possible outcome. “I’m happy to see that Betty White has lived to see another day,” he says.

ALGERIA :
Name of the country : Algeria
Capital of the country : Alger
Human Name : Nasim Touati
Age : 23 years old
Gender : Male
Birthday : July 5 (Algeria's independence day)
Hair Color : Brown
Eye Color : Green
Height : 1m80
APPEARANCE :
Algeria is rather tall and has short, messy and curly brown hair with some little facial hair. He has green eyes, a lightly tanned skin and has big black eyebrows. He wears a Algerian military uniform with rectangular glasses. He's also considered to have a intimidating apparences.
PERSONALITY AND INTERESTS :
He is a calm, strong and hard-working man. Most often being called "scary guy" by the others (mostly Italy) but deep down, he is actually quite playful and cheerful (he like to dance and play derbouka a goblet- or hourglass-shaped hand drum having a single drumhead) but it's rarely shown because of his intimidating aura. He tends to be described has looking like an "old man", liking only old Arabic music and wearing old fashioned clothes. He also love naps and is often sleeping.
RELATIONSHIP :
Turkey : Algeria used to be under Turkey's rule as a child back when Turkey was the Ottoman Empire. Turkey is considered to be Algeria big brother and their relationship is mostly like this : Turkey annoyed him or embarrassed him and Algeria in result's ignore him and tell others him don't know him.
Tumblr media
France : France and Algeria, have been on bad terms since the beginning, a situation which may have been caused by the early days of colonization in Nasim's nation, with him hating Francis for taking over his country. The Algerian war just worsen it and made Algeria despite France even more. After gaining his independence Nasim didn't wanted to be involved with Francis anymore, so he would adamantly deny that the two of them had any sort of connection. Even nowadays he's still have some bitterness when he has to talk to France.
Tumblr media
Canada : Canada has a diplomatic, economic and cultural relationship with Algeria. Due to that, the two share friendly relations and are often seen together, Nasim being one of the only person who acknowledge Matthieu and never mistake him for Alfred. Canada being always forgotten and alone caused Algeria to go and talk to him, even telling him "I don't understand why nobody talk to you, you're quite interesting". Canada is one of the few, who's don't scared by Algeria intimidating apparences. Algeria really seems to enjoy spending time with him more than others.
Tumblr media
Russia : Despite their different personalities and ways of acting, the two get along quite well. The two, after all, are political ally and Russia is Algeria's main weapons supplier.
Tumblr media
Prussia : During the eighteenth century, Algeria and Prussia were fighting against each other in a big war caused by France. At first, Gilbert thought Nacim was a friend of Francis (and a rather scary friend) not realizing he was France's colony but after knowing the truth and loosing the war with France, he started to respect Algeria more, even saying that the two of them were now rivals. Prussia mentioned in his diary what a good warrior Algeria was and how being with France was wasting his big potential. Algeria claimed that he don't dislike Prussia, on the contrary he think he's quite funny and has a great respect for him. On the present day, Gilbert takes great pleasure in annoying in whatever way he can Nacim, just to start a fight with him like in the old time, mostly bothering him when he's doing important paperwork. He is sometime referring Algeria as being "awesome", which is a highly deemed title from Prussia. Algeria is quickly annoyed by his actions, but is shown to forgive Prussia despite his flaws and how he pushed his limits to a certain degree.
Tumblr media
Morocco : Morocco is Algeria's little brother. They were very close in the past and always helped each other in wars, but were split apart by France, who would eventually rule over North Africa. After Morocco being freed and Algeria forced to stay with France, their relationship became more and more distant, to a point where, for a long time the two of then stop talking to one another, even stop seeing each other but when Algeria gained his independence and made a party to celebrate it, he invited Morocco who did come but not the same as before. He had now a much more rebel attitude and was distant with his big brother, something that Algeria didn't like one bit. One time, the two had to talk to one another ended pretty badly, with Morocco insulting him And Algeria replying with something to hurt his pride. The whole thing start a huge fight. But even if the two of them always fight and argue, Morocco cares more about his brother than he admits and are even prone to becoming worried if it appears that the other is in danger.
Tunisia : After Tunisia was bring to the Ottoman Empire, she soon started making friend with Algeria, who was now her big brother, in which he tried to ignore at first and didn't reply when she was talking to him, until Tunisia start getting into trouble with the others country and Algeria stand up for her (his big bro instinct taking the better of him). Since then, their relationship increase. Nasim starting to react more to Tunisia jokes or conversation, they even had managed to bond over similar interests like food or music with times. After living the Ottoman Empire and being forced to be France's colony, much like Morocco they became more distant and stop talking to each other. But contrary to Morocco after everything, they stay as close as before, even more closer than in the old time and also much more important to one another. Algeria seemed overprotective of her, even if she could easily take care of or defend herself.
HISTORY :
After leaving the Ottoman Empire in 1830, Algeria and his siblings (Tunisia and Morocco) were finally free to be a country and live their life like others newly country. But from nowhere, France, in 1830, came to north Africa and found the tree new nation and asked them to be his wifes, despite the fact that the 3 refused, he forced them and became their husband forcing them to sigh a marriage certificate to become his. On 1956 he let Morocco and Tunisia gained there independence and get a divorce. Algeria, however, didn't get that chance and was forced to stay with him. Although Algeria demanded at multiple time to be free, Francis never accepted and always declined, forcing Nasim to started a revolution that cause France, with sadness to accept his request and in 1962 Algeria gained is independence and finally break up with Francis.

Taylor Swift Seattle concert generates seismic activity
Taylor Swift's concerts in the US city of Seattle generated seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake, a seismologist has said.
The data was recorded at Swift's sell-out Eras tour performances at Lumen Field on 22 and 23 July.
Seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach said the activity was caused by Swift's fans or the sound system.
The shows beat the previous record in Seattle, known as the city's "Beast Quake" in 2011.
That was generated by American football fans celebrating Marshawn Lynch's touchdown for the Seattle Seahawks during a game against the New Orleans Saints.
Dr Caplan-Auerbach, a geology professor at Western Washington University, told CNN the difference between the NFL game and Swift's recent concerts was just 0.3, but the "shaking was twice as strong" and "absolutely doubled it".
"I grabbed the data from both nights of the concert and quickly noticed they were clearly the same pattern of signals," she said. "If I overlay them on top of each other, they're nearly identical."
The Seattle concerts were played in front of a total of 144,000 fans over two nights.
Music concerts have been known to cause seismic activity before, for example during a 2011 Foo Fighters concert in New Zealand.

Dress
Our secret moments in your crowded room They got no idea about me and you There is an indentation in the shape of you Made your mark on me, a golden tattoo
All of this silence and patience, pining in anticipation My hands are shaking from holding back from you (ah, ah, ah) All of this silence and patience, pining and desperately waiting My hands are shaking from all this (ah, ha, ha, ha)
Say my name and everything just stops I don't want you like a best friend Only bought this dress so you could take it off Take it off Carve your name into my bedpost 'Cause I don't want you like a best friend Only bought this dress so you could take it off Take it off
Inescapable, I'm not even gonna try And if I get burned, at least we were electrified I'm spilling wine in the bathtub You kiss my face and we're both drunk Everyone thinks that they know us But they know nothing about
All of this silence and patience, pining in anticipation My hands are shaking from holding back from you (ah, ah, ah) All of this silence and patience, pining and desperately waiting My hands are shaking from all this (ah, ha, ha, ha)
Say my name and everything just stops I don't want you like a best friend Only bought this dress so you could take it off Take it off Carve your name into my bedpost 'Cause I don't want you like a best friend Only bought this dress so you could take it off Take it off Only bought this dress so you could take it off Only bought this dress so you could take it off
Flashback when you met me Your buzzcut and my hair bleached Even in my worst times You could see the best of me Flashback to my mistakes My rebounds, my earthquakes Even in my worst lies You saw the truth in me And I woke up just in time Now I wake up by your side My one and only, my lifeline I woke up just in time Now I wake up by your side My hands shake, I can't explain this ah, ha, ha, ha

Name: Cole Foster
Age & Birthday: 44 years old, September 20th
Gender/Pronouns: Cis Man He/Him
Birthplace: NYC, New York
Time in Hollow Cove: Yet to Arrive
Species: Werewolf - Packless
Role: Trainer / Soldier
Positive personality traits: Disciplined, Resilient, Adaptable, Resourceful
Negative personality traits: Hyper-Vigilant, Detached, Traumatized, Distrustful
ABOUT
You didn't really think 2020 was the first time the CIA and intelligence agencies ever knew about the Supernatural, did you? There's theories that this isn't the first war between humans and the supernatural. Nor are the facilities rising through the country the first of their kind, documents and any proof of war and research long since buried. Your cute neighbors wouldn't know a thing about it, obviously. But, right at the top, specialized task forces and departments focused on investigating and managing supernatural threats for years.
A secret segment of the special forces formed within the U.S army. Warfare Operations and Logistics Force (WOLF) focused on training wolves to be highly skilled and volatile killers to use for human advantage. They would sweep through packs of wolves, staging the kills and attacks as hunters or vampires and taking children to shape their young brains prior to their first shift. It was where Cole's story began, barely even ten years old and suddenly being raised in a cold facility with endless training and programs that fine tuned his personality to become operational as a killing wolf.
To fix something into the perfect shape, it needs to be broken. That's the military way, and the wolves underwent years of training akin to torture. When strong enough, when broken enough, they were used in the most dangerous extraction or anti-terrorism forces unaware they were always the collateral damage in the eyes of the army. Living a life not too dissimilar to prisoners, mainly isolated from any other existence except living and breathing being agents and soldiers. But man never learned his lesson that the thing closest to him often turns against him. When the Supernatural war began in 2020, the army's perfect killing machines could sense there was something off from the declaration of a transfer to a new facility.
Without a word needed to one another, the wolves tore through the humans staying true to the act now, ask questions later training they were given since children. And questions were certainly answered when the wolves found documentation of abandoning the WOLF team and killing all agents within it. They also discovered documents depicting other teams similar, and the wolves decided to path their way to Canada in order to extract them and save them from their fate.
Survival has been easy and just second nature to the soldiers, remaining together through their journey to the first facility on the list and liberating it. They continued doing the same, numbers growing and sometimes lessening over the years. But the mission has always been the same, to gather together specially trained Supernaturals and ultimately combat against the army in whatever way they can. Since they're not afraid of being on the front line, it simply felt like another day at home.
Recently, some of the group were separated during a facility liberation but they had strict strategies in place for such occurrences. To reconvene at the next facility, which Cole has been traveling to by himself and surviving alone with no issues. Until he was almost captured by vigilantes when he tried to pick through an abandoned safetown. A mistake on their part truly, but the commotion led him into the path of two witches who arrived just as the last human was killed. Injured and in need, reluctantly, of assistance, Cole accepted their help and made a hesitant promise to help them find their missing witches in return.

BASICS
Name: Thea Sinclair
Age & Birthday: 40, September 14, 1983
Gender/Pronouns: cis woman she/her
Birthplace: Bakersfield, CA
Time in Hollow Cove: TBD
Species: Water-Witch - Sinclair Coven
Role: Medic / Mechanic
Positive personality traits: Analytical, Intuitive, Practical, Original
Negative personality traits: Caustic, Introverted, Irreverent, Pedantic
ABOUT
1983 - 2002
Thea grew up in a powerful family, both in the supernatural and human sense. Their coven was strong, numbers unifying them and growing their strength as witches. Their family was cunning, their prowess and business acumen strengthening their presence and foothold in the human world.
Growing up, Thea was accustomed to a certain lifestyle, but she wasn’t altogether interested in parties and extravagant trips. Still, she can’t deny that the Sinclair name opened doors and provided a path for her interests into medicine and medical research.
Of course, even the most ambitious students make mistakes and hers came in the form of a one night stand. She didn't think anything of it until she realized she was pregnant. Thea made the decision to have the kid, but at the urging of her family and her own common sense, she put the baby girl up for adoption. A child didn’t fit the idea she had for her life or career, nor her family’s. The decision was easy, perhaps too easy for her.
But her path was laid out before and so she focused on her academic career, attending Stanford for her undergraduate degree and then UPenn for medical school.
2002 – 2020
Despite being focused on her future, Thea couldn't ignore the pull of her past. And a few years after giving birth, she used her family’s resources to locate her daughter. She'd woken up in the middle of the night with an urge to keep tabs for reasons she couldn’t quite explain. But it felt better to know where the kid was than not and so she didn’t question it as she continued her studies.
The next years brought accomplishment after accomplishment. Doctor. Residency. Positions at prestigious research facilities abroad and domestic. In that time one of her younger cousins was cut off from the family, but Thea didn’t question it, wrapped up in her own endeavors. The Sinclair coven and family may have been stronger together, but make no mistake that everyone was out for themselves in some way, shape or form.
Over the years, hea positions increased in clout before she was working at a top secret research facility in Seattle alongside a few other members of her coven (involved in security and technology as well as medical research) who’d traveled north from California. They never revealed their abilities, save to each other and knew that the advantage of such a position was to gain more knowledge and insight, especially in their government contracts.
2020 – 2024
When the war broke out, Thea lost track of her daughter’s whereabouts, but remained where she was until the government came calling. They were pursuing a new partnership with scientists and researchers in Canada at various facilities and their lab and personnel were being moved to a research facility in Edmonton, Canada.
For the past four years, Thea has been working at this facility, conducting research alongside those coven members and other human scientists. They’ve taken the utmost care to keep their nature concealed, living each day in the belly of the beast. But she’s done what she can for the supernaturals who’ve come through her lab. Doing her best not to cause them undo harm or pain in the name of science. Giving them some rations here or there, making sure to leave names of weaker supernaturals off testing lists when she can. She realized that she could do more good here, gaining valuable information to funnel to her coven all over, as well as practically helping how she could along with others in her coven.
A few months ago, however, her priorities shifted when a shockingly familiar face crossed the threshold of her lab. The little girl was now grown, the young woman Thea had lost track of. Her daughter.
She’s done her best to keep the truth from coming out, tampering with blood work, meticulously messing with paperwork. She hasn’t even told her fellow coven members. Her priority now is that neither of them be found out. But she’s faced with a real struggle about whether to continue doing her work and helping the supernaturals who come through, or to focus on getting her daughter out of the facility. Both choices are dangerous, and despite her resolve all those years ago not to let a child disrupt her plans or position, she realizes her daughter might disrupt do both after all.

Name: Asher 'Ash' Anderson
Age & Birthday: 29 years old, November 20th 1994
Gender/Pronouns: cis man he/him
Birthplace: Center Hill, GA
Time in Hollow Cove: tbd.
Species: Werewolf / Cross Pack
Role: Builder / Soldier
Positives: resourceful, protective, witty
Negatives: sarcastic, aggressive, moody
ABOUT
There's no other way to be if you're born into the Cross pack. Not to mention the hard shell required to survive the streets of Center Hill. Asher, for as long as he can remember, accepted the life he was given even if it left a lot to be desired. From Pete Anderson's iron fist to the strict and violent regime of the pack, Asher knew he had to toe the line if he was going to survive.
Unlike his twin brother, it takes a lot for Asher to reach a snapping point. His anger sizzles beneath the surface instead, usually unleashed with a sharp tongue or intimidation. Despite the brutal ways in which he was raised, Asher likes to think he has mastered his anger. Instead, he can fill a room with a black cloud and emit the most horrendous of vibes from a simple look. He usually found himself in trouble thanks to his mouth, and his fists were often the finishing touch if it really came to it.
Life was only made bearable by family. Specifically, the small gang of sister and brothers. Thanks to Kat, Oliver and Axel, Ash never felt alone in the world. All of them knew precisely what happened behind their closed doors, and all of them were equal victims to it. It shaped them, each in different ways, and Asher chose to harbor his pain deeply instead of making it everybody else's problem. Ash prefers isolation because of it, and the only Kat and Axel are able to get through to him.
The Atlanta Massacre isn't a day Ash will talk about. At first, the call to arms seemed everything the Cross pack could handle but it quickly became something much bigger than a fight in the streets. The whole city burned that day, destruction beyond anything he'd ever seen before. The three Anderson brothers were separated from the pack, fighting their way to rejoin them but this choice proved to be their worst mistake. Caught within a demolished building, Asher and Axel were separated further and driven out of Atlanta in order to protect themselves from capture.
Since that day in 2020, the twins have remained together. Hardly any land through America has been left untouched while they searched for their pack or any sign of surviving wolves. But, as the years drew on, Asher slowly lost hope. He kept going for the sake of Axel, but began suggestions of planting roots in a safe town for longer than a few months. It was this idea that saw the brothers reach Canada and also saw them captured, taken to a holding camp where they have been ever since.

HALF TERM REPORT: Williams Can they continue their 2023 progress after some encouraging signs?
The 2023 F1 campaign signalled the start of a new chapter for the illustrious Williams name, with James Vowles stepping in as Team Principal. Their goal was to make progress, having finished bottom of the pile last year – and so far, the signs are encouraging. Here’s their half term report… Best finish Alex Albon – 7th in Canada Williams know they have a car that will struggle at most circuits but be in contention for points at others, in particular layouts that include long straights where its slippery machine will shine. HALF TERM REPORT: Haas – qualifying promise but race day problems When that’s the case, you need a driver who will deliver when it matters – and in Alex Albon, Williams have just that. Canada was a great example, the Thai driver utilising a heavily updated car – and Montreal’s long straights – to start ninth and finish seventh to take six valuable points. That score alone accounts for more than half their tally for the entire first half of the season and played a huge role in putting them seventh in the constructors’ championship at the break. Alex Albon has excelled this season for Williams, particularly with his seventh-placed finish in Montreal Qualifying head-to-head Albon 12-0 Sargeant Albon comfortably had the beating of his previous team mate Nicholas Latifi – and that pattern has continued with rookie Logan Sargeant so far this year, the Thai driver unbeaten in the head-to-head after 12 rounds. Albon’s managed four Q3 appearances this year, including three on the bounce – Canada, Austria and Great Britain – and that strong speed over a single lap has opened the door for points on Sunday. HALF TERM REPORT: Alfa Romeo – Where do they stand after dropping down the pecking order in 2023? Race head-to-head Albon 10-1 Sargeant In race trim, Albon has had an impressive advantage over Sargeant, who continues to adjust to life in F1 and faces the additional challenge of having to learn a whole host of new tracks. When they have both crossed the line, Albon has always been ahead in 2023, the 27-year-old scoring on three occasions – the season opener in Bahrain and in the team’s home race at Silverstone in addition to that stunning Canadian GP result. Morale is high at Williams right now with some standout performances Going forward Morale is high in the team right now, the women and men in blue buoyed by some standout performances that are putting the team in the mix for their best constructors’ championship finish in years. Their target is simple – continue to make the most of their opportunities, particularly on tracks where their slippery Williams can excel on the straights. READ MORE: Our writers look back on 2023 so far and predict what's to come in the second half of the season Monza is their best shot for a big haul in the second half of the season. Albon was gutted to miss the race last year after being diagnosed with appendicitis – as he knew there was a chance of a huge score. If he and the team get everything right that weekend, a top-five finish wouldn’t be outside the realms of possibilities. Logan Sargeant is continuing to adjust to life in F1 Best moment Albon’s seventh place in Canada was Williams’ best result in two years and secured a haul of points that could be worth one or maybe two places in the constructors’ championship (and the prize money that goes with it) come the end of the season. He's made defensive driving one of his core skills in recent years – and they were on show for all to see at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He didn’t make a single mistake on a very demanding race track. Chapeau. HALF TERM REPORT: AlphaTauri – Can a mid-season driver change lift them off the bottom of the table? Worst moment Albon was in good shape to score what could have been Williams’ best performance of the season – or at the very least a comfortable top-10 finish – when he ran sixth in the early stages of the Australian Gand Prix. But he slid a little wide at Turn 6, lost control and spun into the barriers. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

Counterfeit Canadian Dollars: How to Spot Fake Bills
Counterfeit money is a major problem all over the world, and Canada is no exception. The Bank of Canada has been working hard to ensure that the security features of Canadian banknotes are as difficult to replicate as possible. However, counterfeiters are becoming more sophisticated, and fake bills are becoming increasingly difficult to detect. In this blog post, we’ll provide some key tips to help you identify counterfeit Canadian dollars and protect yourself from being scammed.
How to Spot Counterfeit Canadian Dollars
Check the security features
The easiest way to detect counterfeit Canadian dollars is to check the security features of the banknote. Every genuine Canadian dollar has several security features that are difficult to replicate. For example, the polymer banknotes used in Canada have a transparent window that contains a metallic portrait of the Queen, as well as a hologram of the Parliament Buildings. The window should also contain a hidden number that matches the denomination of the bill.
Tumblr media
Feel the texture
Another way to detect counterfeit Canadian dollars is to feel the texture of the banknote. Genuine Canadian bills are made from polymer, which is a smooth and slightly waxy material that is difficult to tear. If the banknote feels too rough or too smooth, it could be a fake. You can also try crumpling the bill in your hand – a genuine Canadian dollar should bounce back into shape, while a counterfeit bill may stay crumpled.
Look for inconsistencies
Counterfeiters are getting better at replicating the security features of Canadian banknotes, but they often make mistakes when it comes to the overall design. Look for any inconsistencies in the printing, such as blurry lines or mismatched colors. You should also check that the text on the bill is spelled correctly and that the serial numbers are in the correct format.
Check for watermarks
Genuine Canadian banknotes have a watermark that is visible when you hold the bill up to the light. The watermark should match the portrait on the bill – for example, a watermark of the Queen’s head should be visible on the $20 bill. If the watermark is missing or does not match the portrait, it could be a fake.
Beware of deals that seem too good to be true
Counterfeiters often try to pass off fake bills as real by offering them at a discounted price. If someone is offering to sell you Canadian dollars for significantly less than their face value, it’s likely that the bills are fake. Always be wary of deals that seem too good to be true.
In conclusion, detecting counterfeit Canadian dollars can be a challenge, but it’s important to take the time to check the security features, feel the texture, look for inconsistencies, check for watermarks, and beware of deals that seem too good to be true. By following these tips, you can protect yourself from being scammed and help to keep counterfeit money out of circulation.
Penalties for Using Counterfeit Canadian Dollars
Using counterfeit Canadian dollars is a serious crime that can result in severe penalties. If you are caught using fake Canadian currency, you could face criminal charges and potentially significant fines or even imprisonment.
The penalties for using counterfeit Canadian dollars depend on the severity of the offense and the amount of money involved. If you are found with a small amount of fake currency, you may face a summary conviction and up to 18 months in jail, as well as fines of up to $5,000. For larger amounts of fake currency, or for repeat offenders, the penalties can be much more severe, including up to 14 years in jail and fines of up to $250,000.
In addition to these criminal penalties, using counterfeit money can also result in civil penalties. If you unknowingly pass on counterfeit money to someone else, you could be sued for damages or face other legal action.
It’s important to remember that using counterfeit money is not only illegal but also unethical. Counterfeiting harms the economy and can cause significant financial losses for individuals and businesses. If you suspect that you have been given fake Canadian currency, you should report it to the police immediately and turn it over to the authorities. By doing so, you can help prevent counterfeit money from circulating and potentially harming others.
When to use Counterfeit Canadian Dollars AKA Prop Money
Prop money, also known as fake money or play money, is typically used for entertainment purposes, such as in movies, TV shows, theatrical performances, or as a novelty item for personal use. It is not intended to be used as legal tender or for any fraudulent purposes. Prop money can be a helpful tool for filmmakers to create realistic scenes, and it can also be used as a teaching aid for children to learn about money and financial management. However, it’s important to use prop money responsibly and avoid using it in a way that could be mistaken for real currency.

Kitchen Renovation Mistakes to Avoid in Canada
Tumblr media
Kitchen renovation is a great way to add value to your home and improve its functionality. However, it can also be a complex and costly project.
Making mistakes during a kitchen renovation can result in a less than desirable outcome and lead to unnecessary expenses. In this blog post, we will discuss some common kitchen renovation mistakes to avoid in Canada.
Not having a realistic budget
One of the most common mistakes people make when renovating their kitchen is not having a realistic budget. Before starting any renovation project, it is essential to have a clear understanding of your finances and how much you can realistically spend.
This will help you prioritize your expenses and make informed decisions when it comes to materials and labor.
It is important to remember that unexpected costs can arise during a renovation, so it is best to have a buffer in your budget for any unforeseen expenses. A good rule of thumb is to set aside an additional 10-20% of your budget for contingencies.
Choosing the wrong layout
Another mistake people make during a kitchen renovation is choosing the wrong layout. The layout of your kitchen can significantly impact its functionality and flow.
You should consider the work triangle, which is the path between the stove, sink, and refrigerator. This triangle should be efficient, allowing for easy movement between the three points.
It is also essential to consider the size and shape of your kitchen. For example, if you have a small kitchen, you may want to consider a galley or L-shaped layout to maximize space.
On the other hand, if you have a large kitchen, an island can add additional counter space and storage.
Overlooking storage solutions
Storage is essential in any kitchen, and overlooking it during a renovation can lead to clutter and disorganization. It is important to consider your storage needs when planning your renovation. This includes cabinets, drawers, and pantry space.
There are many innovative storage solutions available, such as pull-out drawers, lazy susans, and built-in organizers. These can help maximize your storage space and make your kitchen more functional.
Neglecting lighting
Lighting is often overlooked during a renovation, but it can significantly impact the look and feel of your kitchen.
You should consider both task lighting, which provides ample lighting for cooking and food preparation, and ambient lighting, which sets the mood and creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.
LED lighting is an excellent option for kitchen renovations as it is energy-efficient and long-lasting.
You can also consider under-cabinet lighting, which provides additional task lighting and adds a decorative element to your kitchen.
Choosing the wrong materials
Choosing the wrong materials is another common mistake made during a kitchen renovation. You should choose materials that are durable, easy to clean, and fit your style and budget.
For example, granite and quartz countertops are popular choices as they are durable and easy to clean.
You should also consider the color and finish of your materials. Darker colors can make a small kitchen feel even smaller, while lighter colors can create a bright and airy atmosphere.
Not hiring a professional
Finally, not hiring a professional is a mistake that can lead to costly and time-consuming errors. A professional kitchen designer and contractor can help guide you through the renovation process and ensure that your project is completed on time and within budget.
They can also provide valuable advice and recommendations based on their experience and expertise. It is important to do your research and choose a reputable contractor with a proven track record of successful kitchen renovations.
In conclusion, a kitchen renovation is a significant investment that requires careful planning and consideration. By avoiding these common mistakes, you can ensure that your renovation project is a success, adding value to your home and improving your daily life.
