Also Ik the request says female reader but uh- as I was writing it I had no indication of a specific gender, so I hope gender neutral will do

• The concept of marriage existed in Inazuma way before Ei made the decision to isolate herself in her Plane of Euthymia. So she knew what it was and the action between two humans sealing each other together forever. Did she understand the feelings and desire for marriage though? No. 

• Even when she was roaming Inazuma freely again without the fear of erosion, she didn’t understand. Everything was happier, there was no constant war, and humans could exist freely, but she still didn’t understand the feeling overwhelming feeling of love required to engage in ‘marriage’. 

• Of course she’s loved before, she loved her twin sister Makoto, her friends, even Yae Miko. But she’s never loved another where she feels ultimate comfort and security. That was until she met you, a mere human. Not even a god, tengu, oni, or envoy. Just human.

• It took a while for her to adjust, especially after being completely secluded for 500 years. She, an archon with little understanding of human nature and emotions, had to adjust to loving a human. A creature driven by emotion. After a couple of years of being together, you felt you were ready to pop the question.

A common pastime in Inazuma was going to Narukami Shrine to draw fortune slips, that’s where you met Ei. She was having tea one hopeful afternoon with the shrine Guuji, and you had drawn a peculiar fortune. Normally you were average and got a modest fortune, but that day you had drawn a great fortune, reading, ‘the clouds disperse, revealing the moon in the sky. Whoever draws this slip will receive great fortune. With clarity in your heart, what you wish for will come true.’ Feeling specifically optimistic about the fortune you decided to talk to the nearest pretty girl, who happened to be the Shogun. Clutching your fortune to your chest you had mustered up the courage to romance your country’s leader. 

Reminiscing on that extraordinary day, you took a deep breath. Miko had already agreed to have her shrine maidens help you on your endeavor to propose to Ei.  The plan was to propose to her exactly where you met, underneath the Sacred Sakura tree beside the fortune slips. It wasn’t exactly all that fancy, especially for the Shogun, but it was a place that held special meaning for you two. 

You walked all the countless steps that wrapped around Mt. Yougou, hand-in-hand with Ei. A domesticated fox may surround you asking for pets or food that you may have. The moonlight shined on you two, when you had reached the summit you led her to the fortune slip box. “Remember this?” You asked Ei. “We should draw one today, maybe we’ll get a great fortune.”

The Shrine Maiden had a smirk on her face, knowing exactly what to do. You drew a bamboo slip, and so did Ei curiously. She had a poker face on like always, but knowing her that could’ve signified any emotion. You drew an average fortune once again. “Hmm I got a modest fortune,” you feigned disappointment. “What’d you get?” You asked, knowing exactly what type of fortune she got.

She read the big bold letter carefully, “I got a great fortune,” She said with slight surprise.

“Ah~ how lucky. What does it say?” You inquired. The letter should’ve been tampered to automatically draw a specific fortune.

“Today, what was lost will be found,” She began mumbling the letter allowed, still reading it carefully. It was an average great fortune, but you believed this one applied to Ei greater than any other fortune. As she reached the end, you got on your knee with a large diamond ring you had bought from the city. Ei read out the remaining letter. “Today is the day to reclaim what was lost,” 

She analyzed the letter for a little longer. For her, this great fortune symbolized the initial loss of the companionship she had in her past, but as you appeared before her, she had felt emotions of happiness she thought she had forgotten long ago. Essentially, reclaiming what was lost. She lowered the letter, revealing kneeling before her. 

She had seen this scene before as described as marriage, but she was doubtful still. Doubtful that out of all people, someone would want to take her hand in marriage? She mentally scoffed at the thought. That was until you dropped the big question. “Ei, as a human- I am incapable of living a long life. But I want to fill the remaining years I have with memories of being together with you. If I remember you through my death, we’ll live together forever, and I’ll serve as your escape from erosion. Will you marry me?” 

You’ve never seen so much life in Ei’s eyes. They glistened unlike ever before, it was the first time she’s felt such overwhelming emotion. “Is this what you humans call love?” she asked, her voice trembling from a mixture of uncertainty and excitement. She wanted to run away from this foreign feeling because it symbolized a change in her daily routines, but she didn’t because she knew this would’ve been a positive change for her. “I humbly accept,” she said meekly.
