Tw rape man how do I trigger warning this. Mention of “Kys” people being dumb as fuck 🗿
So I was invited to this discord server right and it was meant to be satire and i didn’t touch it after the first day of joining. And I got a Ping from there and today some dumb fuck was saying shit like “please don’t tell people to kill themselves but rape is okay” and I’m PRAYING that nigga was joking. Even if he wasn’t that isn’t something to joke about??? And a bunch of people were taking about rape in a joking way and making kys jokes and just being stupid but what really made me snap was when some nigga wrote a paragraph about how rape jokes were okay AND I QUOTE “putting light on a dark situation” and calling it dark humor. Rape jokes isn’t dark humor and if you I think so fucking block me and go to a mental hospital 😂😂😂😐. So I replied and said “I’m PRAYING that you’re joking” and he replied with a “ur mom” so that nigga was most definitely 12 😕 and then he said “kys” and just as I was about to say “I will if you will 🥺” (yes I know I shouldn’t have said that but I was mad) I GOT BANNED FROM THE SERVER?
Again rape jokes aren’t okay. Telling people to kill themselves isn’t okay. Do you really want to be responsible for someone ending their own life? And if the answer is yes stay three planets away from me 😖
Let me give you some context tho because I realize I make no sense 💀 the server I was invited to was a “dreamsexual” one. You know the one from dream smp. The server was supposed to be satire. A joke. There was barely any people in it. I come back a few weeks later and the first thing I notice is this dude with his nickname set to “proud dream raper” or some shit. And that’s so wrong?? Me and some other people were commenting on it and then all of that shit happened. Then when someone said rape was illegal someone else said “So is jaywalking” those two things are on completely different scales. How you gonna compare rape to walking across the road without using e crosswalks. It sounds like mental illness to me buddy 😕. If you’re gonna ban someone from the server because they tell you that you’re wrong and shouldn’t be joking or even talking about (who knows maybe shawty was serious) rape like that then seek help 😟
And poor dream for having horrible stans 😔

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
"'I'm not a pirate. I'm a wild girl from a cursed line of women. I paw at the ground and run under the moon. I like the feel of my own body. I'm not a slut or a nympho or someone who's just asking for it. And if I talk too loud it's just that I'm trying to be heard.'"
Year Read: 2020
Rating: 4/5
About: Fifty beauty queens are ready to compete on camera for the title of Miss Teen Dream, but only a handful of them survive when their plane crashes on a desert island. The survivors are left with little food and water and the choice of whether to put their considerable talents toward survival or continue their pageant training for their almost certain rescue. But as the days pass, it becomes more obvious that the girls won't be rescued any time soon--and the island may not be as deserted as it first appears. Government conspiracy, political intrigue, consumerism, and feminism combine to make a sharply satirical novel about what it means to be a girl under constant scrutiny--and what happens when that scrutiny is suddenly lifted. Trigger warnings: racism (some countered, some not), transphobia (same), misgendering, sexism, guns, violence, explosions, plane crash (obvi), mild body horror, bugs, snakes.
Thoughts: Can you believe it? Libba Bray really just went: I'm going to rewrite a classic with an all-girl cast, and while I'm at it, I'm going to tackle pretty much every feminist issue alongside a blatant critique of consumerism in one fell swoop. AND I'm going to include characters of color, trans representation, characters with disabilities, and a wlw romance. What a queen. If that sounds like something you'd like, then there's no reason to read the rest of this review. It's mostly just quibbles. Overall, I think this novel is a huge success, and I would have been obsessed with it in high school.
While reading, half of me was like "I know this is a satire," and the other half was like, "Where's the lie, tho?" It's spot on in its critiques of consumerism and the raging market of beauty products for women, most of which subtly (or not so subtly, in the book's case) point out that there are things Wrong with our appearances that society will never accept. It's quite heavy-handed, and the many product inserts or commercial breaks started to wear on me, as I imagine they're supposed to. Ads are so ubiquitous we often don't even notice them in day to day life. This ties in with the sheer number of feminist issues the book touches on, from the ways we expect girls to be pretty and quiet to expecting girls to be sexy but shaming them for showing any kind of sexuality. There isn't time to dig deep on all these issues, and there's no subtlety on the bigger ones, but I think it works for what it's doing.
The characters are a little hard to keep track of at first, and I found it especially difficult when they were referred to by their states instead of their names. I like the way the novel takes time to get to know the main group of girls though, and a handful of them get good development arcs. It explores characters who are trans, lesbian, black, Indian, or deaf, as well as the "archetypal" southern belle and the too-smart-for-pageants girl. While I like most of the characters individually, it's as a whole that they really make a statement. These girls aren't just beautiful and shallowly talented; they're smart and resourceful, and rather than come apart and start killing each other, Lord of the Flies style, they grow closer together and start supporting each other. These girls don't break down without society watching; they come alive for the first time and are able to truly be themselves. It's a great novel for self-discovery and female friendships.
But it's not all perfect. Like a lot of other readers, I found including the pirates to be pretty pointless in all but one case (one embraces cross-dressing, and I like normalizing men dressing how they want). I was hoping that by including the pirates Bray would show how feminism is great for all genders, not just women, but it doesn't really play out that way. It feels like a missed opportunity that's squandered on some rather pointless romances (pointless because they don't matter to the plot or the book's agenda, not because romances can't be feminist--they totally could be, given more attention). There's also some unaddressed racism with a character continually calling Shanti "Bollywood," despite her asking numerous times to stop. The character (caricature, really) of MoMo B. ChaCha is also extremely racist, and that whole political intrigue subplot waves its America Is Best flag pretty hard even while it's critiquing American consumerism and politics. Despite a couple obvious failures, I think it means well, and it's still quite relevant for being almost ten years old.

everyone is soo stressed out in the tk fandom rn.
things to keep in mind:
not everyone is going to react the same way
it’s a band we don’t actually know them
if some of us wanna shake a stick at god rn, you can shake a stick at god
If some people don’t mind at all, they like the bops, let em like their bops
If some people feel that LOTF was their statement and that they aren’t keeping up with social media, respect it
If some people are weirded out, uncomfortable and done, then they’re done. respect it
you’re supposed to have fun in a fandom
try to remember to laugh and have a sense of humor about your fandom
also Danielle commented a bunch of red heart emojis under the LOTF post (Ronnie wasn’t in it, it was the other beard guy that tours with them)
If any of my posts stressed you out, I’m just having fun and not dead serious about it. I love all you bitches, it’s okayyyy. 90% of the things I post are satirical melodrama trash. I have a lot of fun on this side blog as a result lol
I am worried about tana tho- in a semi serious way 😕
Also deadass raise your hand if you think they need to fire their social media manager and hire literally anyone

all im sayin is that i was on those boards ten years ago back when i did actually think it was a joke and because they assumed i was a straight white boy they actively did shit trying to induct me. the joke thing was one of the first ways they got me in and one of the first ways they taught me to normalize verbalizing my bigotry and hate. it was always just supposed to be a joke but then one day i realised it actually wasn't and never was and i was in danger and spiralling down into a really bad place of self hatred and internalized bigotry i'm still growing and healing from to this day. i was friends with and even dated those kinds of guys most of my teens. they're not all outright pure evil and a lot of them aren't actually violent or outwardly hateful if you're white and conservative enough for their liking. they can be very kind and when those people say it's just a joke, you tend to want to believe them. and that's why they're taught that. because they know no one will just assume they're racist (especially when they were hangin out with me). but there always comes a time when they have to admit it isn't a joke, even if they don't realize it. they always expose themselves in their actions or even in some of the "nice" things they say. we need to stop shrugging off these "jokes" because not everyone is making them for the edge-factor like when i was a kid and was introduced to the kinds of people who hurt me for existing and eagerly tried (and in the case of an ex, bragged about) making me a traitor, and the people who are going into those boards for the lulz not realizing it isn't a bunch of trolling edgelords but the real deal using that language and culture to thrive and indoctrinate young, lonely, and naive people. we cannot just let them make "jokes" anymore. satire without meaning is not satire, it's just punching down and being a dick for the sake of your own amusement and the amusement of sadistic warped minded fucks like you. and the rest of society got dragged into it cause deadass no one wanted to think little timmy down the street who likes to goosestep in the park to get a rise out of people is an actual nazi even after he tells his mixed race girlfriend to stop being such a n*gger in public. no one wants to assume that shit ever because it's scary and sad and we all want to believe people are inherently good and that bigots are a rare breed you hardly encounter in the modern age but i think it's high time we fuckin start jumping to conclusions more because i know too many people who got away with that shit for too goddamn long because it was "just a joke". we go on and on about how we fought a war to keep nazis out but then the majority of people encounter honest to god nazis and have no fucking clue how to even determine that because they're too busy coming up for other less gross reasons for why that person is saying those things. and for every edgelord who's just joking, a dozen fash bastards are jumping in and hiding behind them because "well she said it and she clearly isn't a nazi so idk why i can't joke like that too" and everyone goes "yeah that's fair" even if the person saying that escalated the conversation to a point where someone spoke up with concern.
listen i could go on and on about the joke thing. it's one of the most harmful things to come out of cybernazis because it's so fucking innocuous and impossible to argue without even the most decent and level headed person in the room telling you to just take the joke and move on with your life. they all tell you to let it go every time because most people don't notice. you only notice if you were on those boards or actively educated yourself on how they behave. and that's why it's so scary to me. i know for a fact it isn't just a joke but people won't even believe me because "well if they really were racists why did they hang out with you?" as if the token queer mixed dfab person isn't the IDEAL bigotry shield for teenagers and young adults trying to get away with their nazi bullshit when they know damn well their loved ones and authority figures won't stand for it. it's most likely why they all seem so normal until they hit their twenties and have more freedom even tho if you asked their peers or looked at their online presence, you'll see the warning signs were always there and they were actively taught to hide it. and i can never stress enough that one of the first things you learn when being inducted into cyberfascism is that it always needs to be "just a joke" even if it's not.

(For the writer ask thingy) 2, 5, 12, 22, 26 👀👀
Oh hello! These were fun and I accidentally wrote a few mini-essays. Hopefully, they are adequate answers 😅.
     2. Where is your favorite place to write?
I do about 90% of all writing on my phone since it means I can write anywhere. Catch me starfished on the floor while drafting out a super emotional scene. Or even throwing down a few lines while waiting for an Apex match to start. Even with that mobility I usually just hang out on my bed. (I often write before going to “Sleep.” You know, like a liar.)
     5. Top five formative books?
I feel kinda bad that I haven't really read much since Highschool since I would tear through books as a kid. I'm trying to get back into it but I struggle to find new ones. But my top ones have to be,
  1. The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick.
My friends and I were blown away by how the book was A) MASSIVE 600 PAGE BEAST, and B) Mostly pictures. We would bring magnifying glasses to look for hidden messages in all the drawings. It was probably one of the first books I owned and it's also great for flattening out bills. (Very handy during my restaurant years.)
  2. Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson
Not technically a book but my dad had a handful of compilations. Something about reading those with a stuffed animal was extra fun.
  3. Percy Jackson and the Olympians/ Heros of Olympus by Rick Riordan
I mean.... What's not to like? Swords. Annabeth. More magic swords and knives.
  4. Leven Thumps and the Guardians of Foo by Obert Skye
This is probably one of the series I've re-read the most. Everything about it is just so visual. The world structure from the creatures to magic systems is just
Tumblr media
  5. Wool by Hugh Howey
This is a fairly recent addition. I haven't finished the series yet but the first book was fantastic. The way you can tell things aren't quite right but the mystery of how the world ended up that way just anchors you down. I really need the library to open back up since I get so distracted trying to read digital copies. I read the whole book in about two days. It would have been one if I wasn't supposed to “hang out with the family” Or something like that.
Honorable mention: The Eragon series by Christopher Paolini.
It gets a lot of flak for being too wordy but I always loved them. Nothing like slapping those books down on my desk and the 5th grade teacher would be like “???? That book is bigger then your head. Are you sure you know how to read it?” Yes bish. I’m re-reading it before the next one comes out.
12. Which story of yours do you like best? why?
Ohhhh man, asking me to pick favorites??? The answer to that is usually just whatever is the most recent since that's what I consider my best work. So right now I think Misty trees and dusty air is still the best story. There was a lot of stuff I was trying for the first time and really pushing to have longer more complex story arcs. It still has its flaws and things I wished I had explored more, but Im proud of my baby.  There are a few oneshots I love just because their kinda random/ Full goblin mode.
22. Tell us about the books on your “to write” list
I have a list of random ideas but most of them probably won't see the light of day. One example of my high tier story ideas is:  “Blackout. They are in a cellar when lights go out and blind. Smoochin time.” Yes, that is the exact wording and entirety of the draft for that story.
Some faves from my list are one that's completely satire and borderline 4th wall breaking in which Dina becomes self-aware and is really concerned with how weird Ellie is acting. (You know, cause she’s being driven by an idiot like me.) She eventually gives up after Ellie dies for the 50th time and respawns a few seconds later. I'm kinda waiting for the game just to see how many stupid things I can do.
There's an AU I've been drafting out that's going to be massive. It will be a couple of weeks before I seriously start writing it but uhhhh, Swords, Knights, Complex mail system, Castles, Fancy outfits. Somewhere along those lines (¬‿¬) It's an idea that's been in my head for over a year and I've just about figured out the main storyline. It's going to take forever to write tho. I might make a legitimate master draft just so I can start posting chapters before writing everything.
The one I’m almost done with (And will start posting in the next week or so..) It's mostly just domestic fluffy. I wanted one final bookend for the mega Mango series that happened. I'm thinking it will end up a little over 30K? But yee she’s coming soon,,,,, I just need a title.
26. What’s the most research you’ve ever put into a book?
They've all had plenty of scattered research about everything from basic medicine to horse stats to what food grows where. Misty trees I had to do a lot of research for mental health and long term effects. In all honesty, the most research I've done is for the thing I'm posting next. Lots of uhhhhhhhh tiny human development.... Making sure the age and skills match. eheh babies for, reasons.

WELCOME TO MY CHANNEL. I AM CHEMICAL X, A SATIRICAL SAVANT PROVOCATUER WHO IS ARTIST, ACTIVIST, AND ADDICT. I LIVE ONLY FOR THE CHEMICAL.
ITS ONLY BEEN LIKE THE UMPTEENTH TIME THAT I'VE FUCKING CREATED CHANNEL AFTER CHANNEL, CHANGING MY NAME EACH TIME BUT KEEPING THE CONTENT. SUE ME. I HAVE NO DEPTH.
IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHO WHO I AM, HERE'S THE SCOOP:
YOU WILL SEE GAY BAREBACK SEX. IT MAY BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF NARCOTICS OR A STAGED ACT TO DEFY THE AUTHORITY THAT TELLS US WHAT IS RIGHT FROM WRONG. IT TELLS US TO BE IGNORANT AND SCARED OF SUCHS ACTS BECAUSE THEY DESTROY US IN THE END. THAT'S ONE WAY OF PUTTING IT I SUPPOSE BUT HERE'S ANOTHER WAY;
I DO WHAT I WANT WHEN I CAN. BUT YOU WONT KNOW FOR SURE ANYHOW SO WHY BOTHER BEING SHOCKED? BE ENTERTAINED INSTEAD.
I HAVE MY MORALS, MY ETHICS, MY IDEAS OF GOOD AND EVIL, AND I DON'T LIVE TO PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE. I TRY NOT TO FRET WITH MEMORIES OF THE PAST. BOTH ARE CONCEPTS THAT NEVER EXISTED. THE PAST IS HEAR SAY OF A MOMENT THAT DIED LONG AGO AND THE FUTURE, WELL HAS YET TO FORM, AND IT DOESN'T NEED OUR PERMISSION TO HOW IT SHOULD BE.
I LIVE IN THE MOMENT, I DON'T HAVE GOALS OR DREAMS, THEY DISTRACT ME FROM THE HERE AND NOW. ID RATHER BE HERE NOW THAN PREPARE FOR SOMETHING ETHEREAL LIKE DREAMS OR PROJECTED GOALS.
I DON'T EDIT OR FILTER WHAT GOES ON BECAUSE WELL LIFE ISN'T PERFECT, NOR IS IT MEANT TO BE. PERFECTION IS ABSURD. THE UNIVERSE ISN'T PERFECT BUT IF PERFECTION HAD AN EXAMPLE TO PROVE THE WORD ITSELF TANGEBLE THEN NATURE WOULD BE IT.
BUT US? WE ARENT MEANT TO BE PERFECT OR EVEN CLOSE TO IT. THE STARS ARE FAR MORE PERFECT THAN US. WE ARE MEANT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THE WRONG PEOPLE AND DESTROY OURSELVES. WE ARE MEANT TO GET BORED OF ONE ANOTHER AND THEN BREAK EACH OTHERS HEARTS AND LEAVE MESSES EVERYWHERE.
THIS THING CALLED LIFE ISN'T SOME MYSTICAL DIVINE CONCEPT TO PROVE WHO IS GOOD OR BETTER OR BAD OR EVIL, FUCK NO!
IT'S ART. WHEN WE ARE BORN, IT BEGINS AS A BLANK CANVAS ONLY MEANT TO BE A FINE MASTERPIECE IN THE END. FOR SOME ITS A BEAUTIFUL DEPICTION, A REPRESENTATION OF SOMETHING REAL, OR ITS ABSTRACT WITH SPLASHES OF PAINT EVERYWHERE.
THE PAST AND THE FUTURE MEAN NOTHING TO ME. BUT RIGHT NOW THOS VERY MOMENT THAT I WRITE THIS AND THE VERY MOMENT YOU READ IT MEANS IT ALL. THIS MOMENT, NOW, I WOULD RATHER FUCKING LIVE IT BEFORE I DIE THAN PLAN AHEAD TO THE MAYBE OF FOREVER THAT WILL MOST CERTAINLY NEVER COME.
IT DISTRACTS US FROM DEATH, BUT REMINDS US IN BETWEEN THAT NO ONE IS GETTING OUT ALIVE. KNOW IT AND KNOW IT WELL.
NOTHING MATTERS. IT IS A SIMPLE AND YET A COMPLEX PERSPECTIVE ON LIFE BUT IT IS EVERYTHING.
WHEN YOU REALIZE THAT NOTHING MATTERS THEN ALL OF EXISTENCE IS YOURS FOR THE REAPING. TAKE IT.
YOU ONLY HAVE ONE SHOT AND YOUR MASTERPIECE WILL NEVER TURN OUT LIKE YOU PLAN BUT A MASTERPIECE NONE THE LESS. WHAT'S IT GONNA LOOK LIKE?
WELL THIS IS WHAT MINE LOOKS LIKE. I ADMIT OR DENY NOTHING, I AM NOT PROUD OR ASHAMED, BUT I CELEBRATE IT WITH LIKE MINDED CREATORS LIKE MYSELF.
SOME MAY SAY IM A SAINT, WHILE OTHERS MAY SAY I AM NOT, AND MANY MAY SAY THAT I AM SATAN, EXPOSING MY SICK DELIGHTS.
AND I DO NOT MIND OR CARE EITHER WAY, MY VIDEOS AND MY WRITINGS BEAR MY SOUL IN WHO I AM, WHO I MIGHT BE, AND WHO I WISH TO BECOME.
IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYWAY BECAUSE THE WORLD GOES ON, WHY SHOULD I CARE IF I AM CONDEMNED?
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE IF YOU ARE TOO?
ENJOY MY POSTS. THEY AREN'T AS BAD AS YOU THINK, THEY ARE TRULY WORSE THAN THAT.

december reading + top10 of the year
books.
a feast for crows, my main man grrm (#4 asoiaf) tbh i think this one is underrated - i understand feeling a bit underwhelmed on a first read bc it’s so much slower than asos & half the major characters aren’t in it & you get a bunch of new ones instead, but the thematic depth here! brienne seeing the devastation of the riverlands, thinking about outlaws & broken men & vigilante justice, sansa & arya both embarking on their apprentice arc & losing their identity in the process, the political intrigue in dorne, & the fucking hilarious shitshow that is cersei’s kings landing.... love it. 4.5/5
herkunft, saša stanišić (audio, sadly abridged) really good memoir/reflection about belonging, origin (national, ethnic, linguistic, familial, emotional), family, and living in germany as a refugee.  it’s really smart, really heartfelt, really funny, and i’m sooo annoyed that my library only has the abridged version. oh yeah it won the german book prize shortly after peter ‘serbian war criminals’ #1 fanboy’ handke won the nobel prize, which was nice. 4/5
a brief history of seven killings, marlon james (uni) marlon james probably laughed his ass off at calling this 700-page book (very small print) a brief history. anyway, this is about the attempted assassination of bob marley in the 70s, the cultural and political context in jamaica at the time, and the fallout of that event. honestly, reading this on a tight schedule for uni was just wrong for this book bc i had to rush thru it & ended up skimming quite a bit. it’s an impressive achievement, but i can’t say i enjoyed it very much. 3/5
she would be king, wayétu moore a magical realist story about the foundation of liberia, told thru three characters - an indigenous woman, an ex-slave from the us, and a mixed-race jamaican - all of whom have magical abilities. i really wanted to like this, but while there are a lot of good ideas, structurally this is kind of a mess (the first part, which introduces the characters is way too long & not very interesting, the connection between the three is supposed to be super significant but it really doesn’t come across, one character gets way more page time than the others), the writing is occasionally p awkward, and there is an odd thing where the narrator (kinda a ghost, kinda the wind) intrudes literally only to call one of the characters her darling or whatever & it’s irritating af. 2.5/5
a dance with dragons, grrm (#5 asoiaf) tbh this is by far my least favourite of the series.... it’s just way too long, a bit of a slog (especially the tyrion chapters...) & there is not a single sansa chapter which is fucked up. a lot of the storylines are really good tho (jon, THEON, asha, jaime...). i ended up liking the parts i used to dislike a bit more this time around tho if i ever read it again i will probably do the combined affc+adwd read bc that sounds fun & interesting. 4/5
the sellout, paul beatty (uni) smart & pretty funny satire about the idea of a post-racial america, in which a black man in the LA region tries to segregate the local community. there’s a lot of cool stuff in here and i really liked the ambiguity & refusal to present any clear-cut answers, solutions, or closure. 3/5
tamburlaine must die, louise welsh fun little novella about the last days of kit marlow, which made for an entertaining 2 hours altho the ending is pretty weak imo & the language slips into entirely too modern occasionally. kinda disappointed because based on the blurb i’d assumed that tamburlaine actually, literally came to life out of marlow’s plays which. is not the case. but would have been super cool. 2/5
radiance, grace draven not to reveal how profoundly problematique i am: this is a book about a human noblewoman entering into an arranged political marriage with a dude from the off-brand dark-elves dynasty & it is. way too wholesome, there is little angst, ildiko & brishen get along very well from the start & like, where’s the fear, the tension, the delicious, delicious ANGST?? 2.5/5
water shall refuse them, lucie mcknight hardy atmospheric witchy folk horror set in a small village in wales during the '76 heat wave - narrator nif’s family comes to live in a cottage there to take some time off after the accidental drowning of nif’s younger sister - the mother is consumed by grief and guilt, the father is trying to hold everyone together, and nif is constructing a witchy creed out of bird eggs and bones and magical thinking to cope, comparing weird witchy practices with local outsider mally. i liked this & altho i saw the twist coming miles away, it still makes for a pretty disturbing ending, and the way the book evokes the dizzy blurry heat and nif’s state of mind - detached, angry, confused, compulsive - is really effective. 3.5/5
a knight of the seven kingdoms, george r.r. martin dunk! is! babey! (except for moments where he displays staggering BDE) anyway these are three novellas set about 100 years pre-asoiaf, about dunk/duncan the tall & his squire, egg/aegon, the OG secret targaryen. the stories are wholesome, funny, cute, have a lot of dunk being a true knight but not a real knight which is extra-sweet when you realise that he’s almost definitely true-but-not-real knight brienne’s (great?)grandpapa. 4.5/5
my cousin rachel, daphne du maurier philip ashley, our narrator, really is like ‘hmmm have i been misogynistic yet today?? better get on that’, he’s awful & so is his older cousin ambrose, who marries distant cousin rachel in florence & then gets ill and dies, making phil rather suspicious about rachel. did rachel poison ambrose? is she trying to seduce and/or poison philip? or are they both just paranoid assholes who hate women (they def. hate women)? this is some good psychological thriller type stuff, what we can construct out of philip’s distorted view of rachel is intriguing (and like, if she poisoned ambrose? #goodforher), the narrator is an ass but well-written, and the first/last lines.... chills. 3.5/5
top 10 of the year (no rereads!)
antigonick, anne carson
a canticle for leibowitz, walter m. miller
dedalus, chris mccabe
the complete maus, art spiegelman
the artificial silk girl, irmgard keun
o caledonia, elspeth barker
the sparrow, mary doria russell
sleep of the righteous, wolfgang hilbig
how to survive a plague, david france
rain wild chronicles, robin hobb
(the last three are kinda randomly picked from the high-4s based on my mood in the moment but they’re all really good so.)

Advice on Making Good Creepypasta OCs
So, as it’s about to be the start of the Spookiest Time Of The Year, by which I mean the Halloween season, by which I mean the beginning of August…
Boy does Halloween season start earlier and earlier every year, and yet nobody ever complains about it like they do Christmas. I suppose that a holiday about self-expression and weirdness is probably more welcome exposure-wise than a holiday about conformity and tradition, but that’s for another post.
Anyhoo, since it’s Almost Time, I figured I might as well do an advice guide on how to make some good Creepypasta OCs. Because, when created from scratch as characters rather than emerging from a “main” creepypasta, most of them tend to be Usual Deviantart Characters + Warmed Over Slasher Movie Cliches. And while that has its charm, I think we can do better.
So, what is my advice? Follow me after the break!
One of the main problems I see is, again, there’sso much aesthetic interbreeding, hence why you see so many Deviantart-lite pasta OCs, because so many of them come from Deviantart and copy the “pattern” they see from other Pasta OCs.
Well, first off, draw directly from the source for Creepypasta inspiration. Because, despite is use widening, the term Creepypasta does bring up what I would call a “house feel,” but a lot of people don’t know where that comes from so they end up not quite understanding the core of why it feels unique.
The long and short of it is, Creepypasta draws from forteana + weird fiction. So, for the former, look at the various testimonies of IRL-type supernatural or generally strange stuff, cryptids like Mothman or the Hopkinsville Goblins; bizarre natural phenomenae like strange rains or bizarre locations; or IRL terrifying cults like the Solar Temple or the Ripping Crew, and so-on.
For the latter, Lovecraft’s always a good place to start; because despite his notoriously bad (Like, even for its day) racism, the man was always good at setting a scene and creating an atmosphere and very specific feel. And check out his contemporaries too, like William Hope Hodgson; Robert Chambers or the excellent story The Night Wire, or modern weird fiction like the manga Fourteen or the works of Junji Ito. Or check out some of the more odd horror films that fit under the lable of “weird fiction,” which I will likely eventually make their own post on, but I’ll give Phantasm; Videodrome, Tourist Trap and Suspiria as a few very good examples.
But, a lot of people draw only from fiction, so my next piece of advice would be draw from yourself. Every creator brings their particular fears and aesthetic interests to the table, it’s what makes them unique, so one might ask, “What are yours?”
To talk of other Creepypasta characters, Harmburger comes from Jonathan Wojcic’s fascination with juxtposing cartoonish whimsy with absolute nightmare with hints of social satire, and Candle Cove comes from Kris Straub’s fascination with the slippery nature of memory. Find what sorts of looks you like, but also what subject terrifies and fascinates you. Even if that results in; like; a Homestuck Troll who jumps out of toilets to grab you or a buff guy with a Jojo stand that uses illegal wrestling moves, it’s still more interesting than the usual warmed-over kinda thing.
Of course, that’s only half the battle, inspiration. The rest is thinking of the character as an isolated character, able to exist independently of a work (Which a lot of Creepypasta antagonists aren’t).
So, the advice becomes think about what makes your character different from others, rather than similar. And I’m not just talking about “Mine has a bow on it!” Look at Slender Man, Harmburger, RED, the Rake, ect. They’re all wildly different, even in terms of shillouette, so go for distinct first.
If you want a quick starting point for uniqueness, try going non-humanoid with your concept; because I’m shocked at how few non-humanoids there are as Creepypasta Ocs even though they make up a good proportion of the Iconic Creepypasta Foes. Or go even weirder and make them an abstract force; like Uzumaki’s Spirals or the eponymous “show” of Candle Cove. Tho this stretches the definition of “OC,” you’d be surprised...
And, that’s another thing, add personality; not lore. Because, a horror creature gets less scary the more is revealed about it, but that doesn’t mean that; despite what Highbrow Horror People like @afloweroutofstone say; good horror can’t come from them as characters. In fact, I’d argue that great antagonists/monsters are one of the things that makes horror great; and an area incredibly neglected by that branch of Serious Analysts who don’t love monsters, but that’s for another post.
You can give an idea of how they’d act; what they’d do in a certain situation; what their motives and possible origins are; but never fully tip your hand. Always leave a “space” in the ideas behind them to perhaps fill out later; but usually to keep a perpetual mystery. Always keep ‘em guessing, but also be sure that what they do see and what is revealed is interesting and fascinating in the way the best characters are.
And, that leads to my last idea, know what stories can be told with them. Because, as much as I love characters-as-worldbuilding-elements, when it comes to rubber hitting the road; the best way to make a character compelling is to tell the dang story with them, and given they’re meant to presumably exist in multiple stories the way the most recurring Creepypasta characters are; or heck even the most recurring characters in general like Conan or Sherelock Holmes; you need to figure out what sorts of stories they appear in and what they do in those stories.
Relevant to the point before this; there always should be enough mysterious threads that you don’t quite reveal the ends to; but in every story you use them in; the reader should have enough information to understand what’s going on in the A Plot, even if the larger world has aspects left a mystery. That’s the difference between Alien and Prometheus, and that’s one of the big differences between a good Creepypasta and a bad one...
I’ll probably be adding to this article in the future, given I’m kinda writing this in a rush via reasons of irresponsibility, so feel free to let me know what I could add or how I could do better.
And, if you want to support me, feel free to join my Patreon, where you get previews and, at the higher tiers, even polls on what you want me to do next and art commissions. I
n fact, that’s how I chose this article idea. Huzzah!

i’m so confused
tumblr is very angry about Comrade Detective. Apparently it’s hurtful towards Romanians, communist history, and other things depicted in it?
The Romanian actors in this agreed to be in the show, knowing how it would be represented. I agree that we all want Romanian actors to get more attention, but I don’t know why we should get mad that Channing Tatum and JGL weren’t doing that advocacy. They were making a satire, intended to make fun of American television in the 80s - none of this is supposed to reflect on Romania at all. It’s making fun of how Americans characterized ppl from the Soviet Union/Communists - the Romanian characters aren’t being shown in an amazing light, but that’s just bc it’s purposefully bad TV. It’s Americans who look stupid in this.
i must be missing something here, bc it sounds like ppl don’t want the US to make shows about ppl in other countries? I’m glad Channing Tatum isn’t making a show about a white american police officer with (insert gimick here). Maybe ppl will watch Romanian shows with these actors now (I’m looking them up now). if you don’t like the show tho... sure

☼☼☼☼☼ also think tank a white lecturer using the n-word when quoting literature in a lecture? I think she used it once outside of quotation as well certainly not meant in a disrespectful way, just seems unnecessary
☐☐☐☐☐ better have a justification at least but if you just use it out of the blue it always seems like some attempt at provocation 'i can say this because my interests are purely academic'
☼☼☼☼☼ mmmmm we're reading uncle tom's cabin, so it's hard to avoid
☐☐☐☐☐ should only be quoted verbatim if absolutely necessary, if there's no alternative I think
☼☼☼☼☼ yeah seems like she could have avoided it pretty easily
☐☐☐☐☐ if she's making no acknowledgement of the word's relationship to her privilege, that's rly not good
☼☼☼☼☼ yeah she's older so there might just be an outdated perspective there 'I'm just quoting the text, it was anti-slavery so I'm fine' sort of mentality maybe?
☐☐☐☐☐ still she would know about the contemporary attitude to the word and she should at least mention that! ugh like it doesn't sound malicious or super super racist, but eh
☼☼☼☼☼ Yeah I feel iffffy about it
☐☐☐☐☐ should mention it!
☼☼☼☼☼ Trying to work out if I should send email and if so how to word it
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☍☍☍☍☍ be interesting to actually properly discuss it
☐☐☐☐☐ yep
☍☍☍☍☍ heck I’d be interested to know more of a history of the word basically teach properly why its offensive
☼☼☼☼☼ Yeah, I might bring it up in the tutorial different teacher, but maybe good discussion
☐☐☐☐☐ mm that seems appropriate i'd love to hear how that goes
☍☍☍☍☍ uhhh there was someone who used it at Bar Oussou the host reallllly should’ve said something and I normally would but just too tired for confrontation
☼☼☼☼☼ Yeah ☐☐☐☐☐ was telling me Sounded very cringe
☐☐☐☐☐ v unfortunate most disappointed in yhe host tbh
☐☐☐☐☐ he maybe had a old-worldy attitude to it and didn't mind or was too cowardly lol which do u think?
☍☍☍☍☍ I think he thought it was in the context of the poem she didn’t use it to degrade someone directly, but the word itself is degrading
☐☐☐☐☐ ugh but the poem is in the context of fuckin oussou yep ppl need to have a think before using words
☍☍☍☍☍ I just think its great to have a stage to do emotional work, but it can cross a line into normalising shitty white behaviour
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☍☍☍☍☍ I went to a coloured school so I can’t b racist wah wah wah
☐☐☐☐☐ and you have to consider your audience if your rant is dehumanising or brushes aside/causes suffering u gotta reconsider felt pretty ashamed on behalf of bartender/various black audience members not saying that dumb white shit would be acceptable with a different audience, but her obliviousness was kinda astounding
☼☼☼☼☼ wow yeah cringefest
☍☍☍☍☍ lol spoken word scene as a whole can b so lame haha rings true to why I/we left
☐☐☐☐☐ mm so macho! that's what I liked about talkbox some sensitivity there, gentleness
☍☍☍☍☍ still, I just wish people read more lok *lol
☐☐☐☐☐ yep I wish I read more
☍☍☍☍☍ like the stylistic range is generally pretty lame
☐☐☐☐☐ I guess that's why anyone reads mmm
☍☍☍☍☍ I wish I read more too
☐☐☐☐☐ hahahaha
☼☼☼☼☼ :')
☍☍☍☍☍ don’t mean to shit on everyon, I just think the scene as a whole and the conception of poetry is lacklustre - it doesn’t seem like the time for poetry, sometimes
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☍☍☍☍☍ ppl too distracted by netflix uwu sounds like phones but too much
☐☐☐☐☐ doesn't seem like the time for art, sometimes! hahhh
☍☍☍☍☍ its definitely a time for music
☼☼☼☼☼ I think there's a place for poetry It's just raps and memes
☍☍☍☍☍ yeh but I play dat long game there might not b a place now but I’mma fkn make one whether you like it or not lol
☼☼☼☼☼ Oh yeah fair go 4 it
☐☐☐☐☐ loll
☍☍☍☍☍ I just mean that I think 'poetry' has evolved into other forms, and now the traditional form is struggling to find a place I mean does anyone pay attention to Victorian satirical cartoons? I don’t I think it’s also tho that the low brow is more apparent in the moment, the high brow more apparent from a distance the shit sinks, basically
☼☼☼☼☼ elaborate?
☍☍☍☍☍ time brings forward higher brow material while a lot of lower brow stuff falls back or like there’s an art for getting through your days, and there’s an art for elaborate long form spiritual liberation
☼☼☼☼☼ so u don't mind about a lack of audience now if your work has staying power?
☍☍☍☍☍ different works have different digestion time and yes that is what I’m saying
☼☼☼☼☼ hmmmmmmm
☍☍☍☍☍ hmmmmmmmm?
☐☐☐☐☐ personally I don't know whether I'm prioritising the reception of my work or its value to me right now i feel poetry/art in general are useful tools for thinking about the world useful philosophical tools i guess and idk whether i'm learning for the sake of my own knowledge/making 'better' art or learning so what I put out into the world is better received I suppose the two aren't mutually exclusive but yeah - feeling fairly indifferent to the idea of creating work that will persist right now part of me feels more comfortable with being lost forever lol or at least that I should become comfortable with that, bc that is what will happen inevitably
☍☍☍☍☍ I just think in this atmosphere of complete denial of the arts as an important component of society, as well as the stigmatisation of ritual and other mystical practices that used to house what we now might describe as an artist, its important that we follow our intuition rather than give in to a system that routinely prevents us having access to basic resources like I want to be there for whoever is there when this period comes to end and those peoples are looking for anything to rudder them, whether or not I’m alive
☐☐☐☐☐ you want to add to the cultural record?
☍☍☍☍☍ I want provide a map for future generations is how I would put it
☐☐☐☐☐ mm how do you feel one can ensure the persistence of their own work? or are you just hoping it'll be around for others I suppose whether or not anything lasts is out of ur control past a certain point
☍☍☍☍☍ for one I make an effort to give away a lot of work
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☍☍☍☍☍ I also store it all and make sure that that stockpile is kept w care but I also think there’s something to be said that I try and operate within many pre-existing canons I also it’s important to use the more meme-y, short stay work to bring attention to the slower works yeah, re: canons, like tanka and before that wakka as poetic forms stem back as far as a thousand years - perhaps more by putting myself in conversation with the ancients... idk it feels a bit like entering a cultural refrigerator haha
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☍☍☍☍☍ sometimes I find it better to see my individual works as modules that make up a whole more prescient than its parts (Morton lolz) soo... maybe my work won’t carry the same weight until I finish, so to speak who knowsss but this how I think about it lol
☐☐☐☐☐ best to try and contribute something I spose rather than do nothing w ur resources
☍☍☍☍☍ I’m weird with this shit u don’t have to be
☐☐☐☐☐ mm it seems fairly simple to me and not that weird
☍☍☍☍☍ not everyone should spend their life tending their gravestone it’s a job for a particular type of person, and I am it
☐☐☐☐☐ but in a sense everyone does anyway everyone does things with the future in mind or without it in mind I suppose
☐☐☐☐☐ and i guess that influences what you leave when you die eheh, whether you do it consciously or unconsciously
☍☍☍☍☍ I just am particularly stubborn that I have something to offer - I think its partially a result of being denied that a lot in school, I found other ways to have social bonds that were more... non linear bonds with past peoples, and inadvertently bonds with future people
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☍☍☍☍☍ I find it frustrating that its seen as arrogant to suggest your work should be read after you die - if anything its remarkably humble as I'm acknowledging that I will never properly see the fruits of my labour it's a ridiculously isolating position to find oneself in, where your best friends - books, music, content - have no form of human intimacy with you and completely defy all survivalistic, lizard-brain humanity plus you're just on a total different dimension from most people you meet
☐☐☐☐☐ mm you're in a very specific position here
☍☍☍☍☍ lol goodluck catching up ☼☼☼☼☼
☼☼☼☼☼ unrelated btw
(☼☼☼☼☼ posts a meme in chat)
☍☍☍☍☍ see y'all @ da rally (in reference to the meme)
☐☐☐☐☐ where and when is this? oh oops thought you meant a real one
☼☼☼☼☼ hahaha
☍☍☍☍☍ xD
☼☼☼☼☼ structurally is the meme ok ? took the photo the other day, and just added the text.
☍☍☍☍☍ yes are u going to weigh in on the conversation tho lol
☼☼☼☼☼ nah not really
☍☍☍☍☍ meme fine
☼☼☼☼☼ I have so little to add
☍☍☍☍☍ well hm why make memes? why not write novel? do memes have staying power?
☐☐☐☐☐ it's a question of what timescale is important to you at any given time maybe
☍☍☍☍☍ oh absolutely - not trying to infer a hierarchy here, I just think there are different approaches for different problems
☐☐☐☐☐ sometimes I'll say something to someone so they'll remember it for tomorrow, sometimes I'll say something to someone and hope they'll remember forever lol mm I don't think I care about staying power that much
☐☐☐☐☐ memes have such a short lifetime, they're like cultural mayflies haha
☼☼☼☼☼ Yeah defs
☍☍☍☍☍ why tho lol
☼☼☼☼☼ Because the art itself can date while still inspiring change
☍☍☍☍☍ yeah so using it pragmatically like a single use tissue
☼☼☼☼☼ If you create something short lived, it (with the help of other artists producing similar work) is able to push art and society in a specific direction The butterfly effect I guess
☍☍☍☍☍ it's true that you have more effect in the current conversation
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☍☍☍☍☍ but that conversation draws intensively on a language formed by the ancients so the two are dependent on each other, a back and forth
☐☐☐☐☐ and that's dependent on their work's longevity?
☍☍☍☍☍ not following ur question
☐☐☐☐☐ not following your point haha hmm
☼☼☼☼☼ so you're suggesting a works longevity is crucial in that it helps reinforce and update the ancient language in which short term work of the future will be influenced by?
☐☐☐☐☐ mm also - what if of all the work you make, it's only a meme that survives the passage of time?
☍☍☍☍☍ basically... like you're just reiterating points that have been made more in depth in 'higher' brow culture - that's definitely how I feel when writing raps
☐☐☐☐☐ like Roman graffiti surviving on the walls or whatever
☍☍☍☍☍ did you a hear copy of the I Ching, the Chinese numerology classic more than a thousand years old, was found in the 70s and had a heap more sections and a different order? effectively completely changing the understanding of the I Ching gotta get those nice lead storage chambers ayyyyy ahahaha it was found buried in a coffin, obvs haha
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☍☍☍☍☍ a lot of Chinese philosophers only exist in so much as someone else described them
☼☼☼☼☼ But what does that changing of contexts of that piece actually mean for us? Is updated Ching from the coffin helping us in any way?
☍☍☍☍☍ I think for me finding the I Ching and looking over it is like a person in a thousand years finding a functional iPhone it gives great insight into human impulses regardless of time and offers a way of writing the past a new, which in turn presents a new future (thinking of the cowboy article you sent me) reconceptualizing the past IS the future look at 'Make America Great Again' or calls to restore the caliphate both are founded on histories that have more to do with our current state than the actual happenings of the past
☼☼☼☼☼ I do see where you're coming from I like the idea that it's important to preserve our work for understand the past better And I hope that someone in the future will have a clearer understanding of our time through your well preserved works But what fucking future is it
☍☍☍☍☍ haha but like looking back we see people been asking that for a veeery long time I get it seems on a new scale but we're on a new scale too
☼☼☼☼☼ It does seem that yes Also if we do survive and keep on teching on
☍☍☍☍☍ I'm for an integration of the human/natural binary where we properly acknowledge our mutual codependency, the earth and humanity that is
☼☼☼☼☼ Are we even going to be translatable? Is the functioning iPhone found by the future person going to even be able to be translated? Or will it be meaningless because everyone is already part of the grid
☍☍☍☍☍ where artificially effecting the climate for the benefit of 'nature' isn't seen as strange but completely akin to Aboriginal burn back practices
☐☐☐☐☐ i guess it's productive to hope that it will be translatable
☍☍☍☍☍ we've always interfered in the running of nature
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☍☍☍☍☍ ehhh idk we translated fucking hieroglyphics
☼☼☼☼☼ Or future tech can look into the past and someone is watching our lives as we type this now, constantly being understood through our context in a way we can't comprehend through our recording processes shrugs
☍☍☍☍☍ I mean yeah, imagine if the internet was even vaguely archived
☼☼☼☼☼ You probably have a better understanding of how the future will pan out than I do tho
☍☍☍☍☍ even if 0.1 % was kept, it would be a massive resource
☼☼☼☼☼ No sass intended there, I'm sincere
☍☍☍☍☍ lol idk I just try to see a bigger picture and it keeps me calm remember me old saying? we survived the plague and nukes lol
☼☼☼☼☼ I just don't see the issue with creating short term work, especially if it is preserved
☍☍☍☍☍ oh neither do I
☼☼☼☼☼ Like a meme may have more impact than a novel rn
☐☐☐☐☐ well it could be argued that we're yet to survive nukes but I see your point impact on various timescales
☼☼☼☼☼ I've heard the plague make be thinking of making a comeback too haha
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☍☍☍☍☍ oh duh peasantry is fully hip rn
☐☐☐☐☐ but like
☍☍☍☍☍ bring back the boils, they look great with my Balenciaga sneakers
☐☐☐☐☐ lol bubonic chic
☼☼☼☼☼ Pretty close to heroin chic tbh haha
☍☍☍☍☍ not jking that was tb
☐☐☐☐☐ but like, I don't find a huge amount of solace in the fact that we survived the plague
☍☍☍☍☍ "The Victorians romanticized the disease and the effects it caused in the gradual build to death. For decades, many beauty standards emulated or highlighted these effects. And as scientists gained greater understanding of the disease and how it was spread, the disease continued to keep its hold on fashion. and the severity of the corsets was known to harm the lungs in such a way that would increase the likelihood of transmission LOOOL
☐☐☐☐☐ mm Balenciaga look out idk it's a question of what capacity we survive in
☼☼☼☼☼ lollllll
☐☐☐☐☐ quite depressing to think about
☍☍☍☍☍ eating disorders have a pretense
☐☐☐☐☐ what if ecocide leaves a few insular eco fascist regimes who gradually diminish over centuries always engaged in pointless wars of attrition with one another lol
☍☍☍☍☍ I mean you could probably say the same thing of colonial regimes now
☐☐☐☐☐ just because we can survive, doesn't mean my outlook should b at all rosy :((
☍☍☍☍☍ point is its a big ol' world that has plenty of room for pain AND love any future pain you think is imminent probably already is happening, and nonetheless breakfast tasted good this morning
☼☼☼☼☼ 'The hipster middle class would dress with raggedy beards and large jackets and refuse to use deodorant, perhaps to reflect the look of people suffering from homelessness at the time. It is suspected that this made them less likely to be hired, and therefore more likely to become homeless themselves.' ☍☍☍☍☍ ahahaha
☐☐☐☐☐ mm that's true hahhh
☼☼☼☼☼ Planning on making this into a full essay. Might not be popular now, but I think it has staying power? Soz for shitposting haha
☍☍☍☍☍ I was talking with ☲☲☲☲☲ a while back, and something struck me - she said, "I never thought this age would have its own fleet of particular medical conditions." (or something like that lol, translated via my nerd brain)
☼☼☼☼☼ Yeah that didn't quite sound like her But that sentiment is great
☍☍☍☍☍ 'fleet'
☼☼☼☼☼ In that ofc there is, but also wow yeah ofc!
☐☐☐☐☐ mmm hahh these conversations should be recorded so we can all think about em without scrolling up endlessly
☼☼☼☼☼ I do like the idea of people reading these works in the future tho
☐☐☐☐☐ and also so that they can be preserved for 10,000+ years of course
☼☼☼☼☼ In the same way we read the letters sent between dead artists now
☐☐☐☐☐ mm very true
☍☍☍☍☍ mmm
☐☐☐☐☐ messenger is not a particularly stable storage medium and also is more vulnerable to third party scrutiny although the fact we're reading artists letters now means that medium is also pretty fucking vulnerable to scrutiny lol
☍☍☍☍☍ I fucking found the word! (sorry was searching for it so hard) Neurasthenia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neurasthenia
☼☼☼☼☼ Americanitis lol
☍☍☍☍☍ uhh the page doesn't rly talk about this, but its like a condition of over-working effectively, and people would try and get prescribed the pills to treat it as a way of signalling they were a dedicated worker its total hokey
☐☐☐☐☐ wow yeah you mentioned this a while back
☼☼☼☼☼ oh I've heard a similar thing in Japan were workers will pretend to fall asleep at their desks to show how hard they're working No idea the trust behind it tho
☍☍☍☍☍ to this day, "In Japan, shinkei-suijaku is treated with Morita therapy involving mandatory rest and isolation, followed by progressively more difficult work, and a resumption of a previous social role. The diagnosis is sometimes used as a disguise for serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and mood disorders." a dignified mental illness uwu none of that lower class shit I'm a classy fuck with money, I don't get the same mental conditions as the poor lolol reminds me of now: I don't have shitty parents, I just have adhd (not to deligitimise all uses of adhd, just over diagnosed)
☼☼☼☼☼ mmmmm i feel u yes this has been a wild ride
☍☍☍☍☍ yes I’m leaving to get late lunch uwu have a good day in this cosmic spider web lololol
☼☼☼☼☼ :')
☍☍☍☍☍ Like the burning of this charcoal fire, our years too will soon expire Kobayashi Issa listening to Krista Tippet talk with Maria Popova, this particular phrase resonated with our conversation: we live in a world where disruption over-fetishised; we need cultural stewardship to help along new waves of disruption
☼☼☼☼☼ How would u define cultural stewardship in a practical sense?
☍☍☍☍☍ caring for the legacy of those past as a means of refreshing their insight for a new age a very straightforward example would b the importance of new translations, in this regard - as our understanding and depth of connection to Japanese society has deepened, so too have our translations dusting off the books so to speak in some sense I see that in our music too or reappropriating to a new context
☼☼☼☼☼ Well remasters are a time terry literal example Fuck
☍☍☍☍☍ time terry
☼☼☼☼☼ Pretty* not time terry lol
☼☼☼☼☼ lime berry yeah exactly
☼☼☼☼☼ Slime Jerry
☍☍☍☍☍ I mean rereleasing is an obvs example mhm but more abstract examples are how I’ve exported into both your brains Bridle/Steyerl/Haraway via conversation and art lolol I’m helping it move from one place to another same w Zappa lol
☐☐☐☐☐ also - looking after artist friends being generous I feel these are acts of pre-emptive cultural stewardship
☍☍☍☍☍ haha yeah definitely different time scales it could function on
☐☐☐☐☐ looking after and maintain communities
☍☍☍☍☍ hosting open mics lol helping teach ppl poetry lollll
☐☐☐☐☐ not allowing hate speech to creep into open mics lol
☼☼☼☼☼ Truuuuu Or anywhere for that matter
☐☐☐☐☐ not becoming so dusty that you actually have a detrimental impact on cultural progression
☍☍☍☍☍ I think religions only exist in so far as they have active practitioners
☐☐☐☐☐ mm
☼☼☼☼☼ Tru
☍☍☍☍☍ I think my sense is, in religion, this same argument plays out with orthodoxy versus mysticism Maintenance of buildings is in there too for religion People being assigned paid positions as the keepers and givers of religious knowledge oh yeah thinking a lot here of Shanzai, ☐☐☐☐☐, and the idea of an object as a lived practice
☐☐☐☐☐ when home I'm gonna do my best to archive this conversation mmm
☍☍☍☍☍ you’re going to steward our conversation bout stewardship ...
☐☐☐☐☐ this is all going in
☍☍☍☍☍ ...the tv where I am says “The comedian getting behind ‘Know Thy Nuts’” and there are big walnuts on the screen
☐☐☐☐☐ ???????
☍☍☍☍☍ “I didn’t realise chemotherapy would be such great comedic material!”
☐☐☐☐☐ ¿¿¿¿¿¿
☼☼☼☼☼ Huhhhh
☍☍☍☍☍ lol highly recommend https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/on-being-with-krista-tippett/id150892556?mt=2&i=1000429408054https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/on-being-with-krista-tippett/id150892556?mt=2&i=1000429408054
