Els frescos, del segle XII, mostren semblances amb les del Mestre de Pedret.

King David playing music in the altarpiece of Sant Vicenç church in the village of Espinelves, Central Catalonia. It was painted around the year 1187.

The altarpiece is dedicated to the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus. On the top left, the scene represents the Three Wise Men and the shooting star they followed to bring presents to Jesus; on the top right, Jesus' entrance to Jerusalem. The bottom row represents the 6 prophets who foresaw the arrival of the Messiah: Isaiah, Jeremiah, David, Ezequiel, Daniel and Zachariah.

King David is often represented playing music because of his devotion to the arts. He is said to be the author of psalms, dance in front of the Ark of the Covenant, and play the lyre, the harp and the zither.

COLLSEROLA I ELS SEUS ARTISTES

La propera 15na. Biennal Manifesta, biennal nòmada europea, enguany té Sant Cugat i la serralada de Collserola, com a indrets on s’hi faran diferents propostes d’aquesta biennal.

Sant Cugat, situada als peus de Collserola que és un dels parcs metropolitans més extensos del món, ha estat un indret històricament destacat a partir del segle XII, amb l’imponent conjunt monàstic al bell mig de la ciutat, on l’escultor Arnau Cadell hi va realitzar l’important claustre Romànic. L´art ha sigut creatiu al peus de la serralada, nosaltres presentem alguns del artistes que han tingut o tenen el seu taller amb una mostra de juliol i agost 2024. Veniu a dibuixar al museu pel vostre compte o en família! Amb els quaderns El Museu dibuixat, us animem a visitar el museu amb propostes per fer una “visita dibuixada” mentre gaudiu de la col·lecció.

En aquests quaderns, hi trobareu suggerides algunes obres i espais del museu on podeu estar còmodes i passar una estona dibuixant i en contacte directe amb les obres d’art. Els relleus del Romànic, les sabates del Gòtic o les escultures d’Art Modern són només un punt de partida. Dibuixeu tot allò que us interessi, engresqui o sorprengui.

Nativitat Vitrall del s. XIV trobat recentment en Girona. Durant les obres de restauració i neteja d'un retaule s'ha trobat aquest vitrall que pot ser el vitrall figuratiu més antic de Catalunya. Bon Nadal i Bones Festes per tothom en especial pel que no poden estar amb nosaltres com exiliats i presos polítics.

11+11=22 Questions

I got tagged in two of the 11 questions ask games by @elnas-studies and @hardlyfluent (thank you both so much!!), so I combined them both in a really long hell post which I’m putting under a cut because otherwise this will be horrifying

RULES: Answer the 11 questions. Make 11 of your own and tag 11 people.

1. how old were you when you started learning other languages besides your native one(s)?

Unless you count my early attempts to learn Malayalam, which arguably started at the age of about two, then I’d say I really started learning another language when I had to take Spanish in sixth grade, which was a struggle at first but eventually I fell in love with it

2. have you ever dated one of your crushes before?

dating???? crushes????? im donot know what youre talking about

3. what is your strengths and weaknesses as a language learner?

My strength is probably my refusal to think things are “weird” or “difficult” and just kind of accepting them as a fact, and also the fact that I adore grammar. My weakness is definitely that I loathe learning vocabulary, and also the fact that I tend to just skim stuff to learn all the cool grammar and never actually practice anything :,))

4. why are you studying the languages you are studying?

oh boy get ready this is going to be a long ride

Spanish - I had to take it in school but the reason I currently speak it to any degree is probably thanks to my obsession with Latin pop during the dark years of my life (we don’t talk about that here)

Catalan - because it’s perfect and also because I love literally every aspect of Catalan culture, did you honestly expect me to say something else??

Welsh - originally because I read a series called The Dark is Rising when I was in fourth grade and it had Welsh in it and I was like I want to learn this and so I (sort of) did

Basque - not gonna lie, this one was for Xabi Solano (if I try to pretend like it’s not y’all will find me out eventually because everything is on this blog)

Turkish - good question, why am I learning Turkish?? jk, I think Turkey is a fascinating country with a really interesting history, also it appreciates cats so that’s a win

Western Abenaki - this is an indigenous language from around where I’m from so I feel like the least I could do would be to learn it considering I’m occupying their land, also I grew up listening to an Abenaki storyteller named Joseph Bruchac so it’s close to my heart

Romani - this was also a language I wanted to learn in fourth grade because we had an album of Romani music and it was one of my favorite things in the world and I wanted to be able to learn all the words to the songs, I guess not much has changed since then

Malayalam - me?? learning languages for actual reasons??? it’s more likely than you think (this is my heritage language, my dad’s family is Malayali)

Arabic - originally I had good reasons for learning this, now I’m just doing it for Mashrou’ Leila

Tamahaq - in case you’re not seeing a pattern here hopefully this will help, I’m learning this for Tinariwen so I can understand their songs

5. where in the world would u move to if u could?

Either the rural Pyrenees somewhere (La Garrotxa or Ripollès probably), somewhere in the New England woods, or Minneapolis (sorry I just really fell in love with that city it’s not my fault that it’s so good)

6. what is your favourite food in ur target language(s)?

pasta, I think it’s the same in probably all of them except Turkish, which is makarna

7. what is your favourite genre of books and/or movies?

I used to be a big sci-fi and fantasy person (and still am to some degree), but now I also really like historical fiction (although still with a dose of fantasy if it’s done well), plus literally anything gay

8. do you like poetry? if so, who is your favourite poet?

I’ve never really been into poetry but I absolutely adore Vicent Andrés Estellés

9. have you ever studied abroad?

Not with school, although I did study Spanish at a language school in Oaxaca for a week one summer, but I’m hoping to go to Senegal to do my Official College Study Abroad™ and learn some Wolof :))))

10. what is ur biggest fear?

I have a lot of these, do you really want to get into that (probably either dying or the depths of the ocean)

11. what is the one thing u can’t live without?

Probably my computer because I’m Trash™

1. If you could change your name, would you? and to what?

I actually am seriously considering changing my name irl, but I do also really like my birth name so I’m not sure, this is a difficult question

2. Do you have a favourite artistic movement? 

I’m not a cultured person who is capable of having that sort of opinion, although I’m a big fan of art romànic in Catalunya, which is sort of a weird thing to be a fan of but that’s how it be sometimes

3. If you could move anywhere in the world, where would you go?

moving temporarily?? either somewhere in Catalunya or my family’s house in Kerala because it’s going to get sold soon probably since no one lives there anymore but it’s really important in my family’s history and I want to experience it before it’s gone; or, on a less serious note, a sheep farm would also be very nice

4. Do you collect anything? If so, what?

This is going to sound weird especially because I did this as a nine-year-old, but I used to collect business cards?? Now I just collect plants. Lots of plants. Too many plants, really, but who’s to stop me?

5. What is one piece of media that you think everyone should watch/read?

idk if this counts but please watch the video for “Roman” by Mashrou’ Leila, it’s amazing (I could rec books and stuff but I don’t have the same taste as people and also a lot of the stuff I watch/read is either trash or too mainstream to bother putting here)

6. What was your first favourite band/singer?

Hmm…let’s play it safe and say the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields because I was a cultured 4-year-old who listened exclusively to classical music (what happened to me, we will never know), outside of that I’m honestly not sure because I’ve had favorite bands my whole life and so it’s hard to say who was the first

7. What is your favourite season?

Autumn, but honestly my favorite season is whatever season comes next, I’m always ready for the change when it (finally) happens - that’s why I can’t live in places where it’s warm/temperate all year round, I’d go crazy

8. What’s your favourite song from your home country?

Oh wow this is difficult because (1) there’s a lot of music from the US and (2) I listen to almost none of it so... I’m going to pass on this for now

9. Is there any fashion style from the past that you would like to bring back?

I’m the wrong person to ask about fashion, I have the fashion sense of one of those guys on Queer Eye who Tan has to save because they wear jeans and a t-shirt to everything

10. What song do you currently listen to the most?

I’ve been listening to “Imm El Jacket” a lot recently because it’s the best, also “Entre poetas y presos” by La Raíz

Located by the Montjuic Fountains you can discover Poble Espanyol (Spanish Town). Which consists of 117 buildings to represent every part of Spain. It was an idea that was put forward by Catalan architect, Puig Cadafalch, who thought of it when proposing sights to have in Barcelona in time for the Global Exposition of 1929. This was a chance for Barcelona to put itself on the map to the rest of the world to visit, learn about and share experiences about. This was the second exposition in the city, the first being in 1888. Cadafalch then hired four architects to go on some 600,000 sites to encapsulate the feel of a Spanish town.

From this, the architects made the same scale buildings or artefacts that they would erect in the Poble Espanyol in Barcelona. In the process, ensuring that all regions are represented- La Rioja was not an autonomous community at the time and is therefore missing, and the Canary Islands were too expensive for the architects to visit and were even left out of Poble Espanyol!

A city or town within the region that the architects visited inspires each building. They truly do capture the feel of a traditional town but with the twist of design, that gives scope to local style and materials. Thanks to the attention to detail, it is safe to say that Poble Espanyol represents a whole nation in a way that embraces differences, rather than using them to separate the country.

Actualització del programa del cicle:

PEDAGOGIA COMPARTIDA: CATALUNYA I OCCITÀNIA Aquest cicle de conferències és el segon que organitza Amics de la Unesco de Barcelona sobre Occitània, aquest cop amb motiu de la proclamació per part de l’ONU del 2019 com Any Internacional de les Llengües minoritzades. PROGRAMA: - 17 d’octubre del 2019, a les 19 h.:

Romanicitat de l’occità

Lloc: Seu dels Amics de la Unesco de Barcelona (Mallorca 207, pral.) 

A càrrec del Dr. José Enrique Gargallo Gil, del Dep. de Filologia Romànica de la UB. L’espai occità es troba al cor del contínuum romànic de l’Europa occidental; allò que el romanista Amado Alonso concebé amb el rètol de Romània continua. I aquesta centralitat territorial determina una delimitació amb espais romànics diversos, a sud, a nord i a llevant; espais romànics que tenen projecció a la península Ibèrica, com l’aragonès i el català; la resta de bloc gal·loromànic (oïl, a través del Creissent; i francoprovençal); i varietats gal·loitàliques, com el lígur i el piemontès, que constitueixen l’extrem nord-occidental del bloc italoromànic. Una centralitat territorial que condiciona la seva fesomia diversa, que apunta elements de romanicitat compartida amb els espais veïns: així, alguns dels elements constitutius de l’especificitat del gascó (f- > h-, pèrdua de -n-, tractament de -ll-) tenen continuïtat en castellà i aragonès, o en la realitat no romànica que és el basc; o altres elements característics del conjunt occità, com l’evolució de [o] tònica a [u], traspassen els llindars de la llengua i atenyen el català rossellonès. I els llindars de la llengua, en general, no corresponen a delimitacions precises, sinó a zones de frontera difusa, àrees permeables: com el ja esmentat Creissent, el complex espai de contacte occitanopiemontès, o la zona de confluència catalanollenguadociana. Només els Pirineus centrals semblen aixecar un mur entre l’occità i l’altoaragonès, una frontera nítida, però fins i tot aquesta no impedeix l’afinitat romànica transpirinenca, com va observar Elcock (1938);1 ni la circulació de mots occitans que travessen la gran barrera pirinenca, com el pai d’algunes valls altoaragoneses, o la beroya ansotana “chavala bien criada” (EBA),2 adaptada a partir de la beròia ‘bella, bonica’ del gascó. - 24 d’octubre del 2019, a les 19h.: 

Dificultats d’acquisió lingüística als instituts i col·legis de Montpelhièr. Metodologies de recerca per valorar el grau de transmissió de l’occità en l’àmbit escolar.

A càrrec del Sr. Efrén Beltrán Roncal, sociolingüista en l'àmbit de l'ensenyament de l'occità. 

Lloc: Seu dels Amics de la Unesco de Barcelona (Mallorca 207, pral.)

En aquesta conferència, el Sr. Beltrán exposarà el seu mètode de recerca i els resultats de la seva investigació l’any 2004 a partir de la seva tesi. L’objectiu és exposar les principals dificultats dels alumnes per aprendre l’occità i quines mesures es podrien prendre per normalitzar l’ús de l’occità en l’àmbit escolar, particularment als establiments públics on són pocs els que saben parlar. També es farà una anàlisi crítica dels errors comesos per part de les autoritats de l’ensenyament franceses els últims vint anys i les dificultats que pateixen els professors. - 7 de novembre del 2019: 

Les Calandretas, escoles occitanes immersives i obertes al plurilingüisme.

A càrrec del Sr. Patrici Baccou, director d'APRENE.

Lloc: per determinar

Aquesta conferència vol apropar el públic a les metodologies didàctiques que s’han fet servir a les escoles immersives Calandreta des del seu origen els anys 70 fins ara així com la seva evolució. Les Calandretas tenen un projecte pedagògic molt ambiciós amb una filosofia molt arrelada en la transmissió de valors de cooperació i de resolució de conflictes a l’aula, on s’evita la imposició de criteris arbitraris per part del professorat i de l’equip directiu, així com la implicació associativa dels pares.

- 14 de novembre del 2019, a les 19h: 

Les contribucions del CAOC a les relacions calalanoccitanes en l’àmbit educatiu. 

A càrrec de la Sra. Meritxell Pueyo Soto, vicepresidenta del CAOC i coordinadora dels cursos de llengua i cultura occitanes al CAOC i de la Sr. Marçal Girbau, professor del CAOC.

Lloc: Centre Cívic Casa Golferichs (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 491. Barcelona).

En aquesta conferència, es tractarà d’analitzar les contribucions del CAOC en l’àmbit de l’ensenyament gràcies a les seves relacions i accions culturals en ambdós costats del  Pirineu. Evolució de les xarxes associatives els darrers 40 anys entre el CAOC i les associacions occitanistes. - 21 de novembre del 2019, a les 19h: 

Les contribucions mútues entre l’Escola Catalana i l’Occitana a partir de la instrumentació pedagògica.

A càrrec de la Sra. Rosa Maria Salgueiro, membre de l'Institut d'estudis aranesi - Acadèmia aranesa de la llengua occitana i del Sr. Efrén Beltrán Roncal, sociolingüista en l'àmbit de l'ensenyament de l'occità.

Lloc: Centre Cívic Casa Golferichs (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 491. Barcelona). Partint de la conferència precedent, aquesta té com a objectiu les connexions entre els projectes pedagògics aplicats a Calandreta pilotats pel Centre de formació de mestres APRENE i l’Acadèmia de la Llengua Aranesa. Es parlarà dels projectes pedagògics compartits, com el Termòmetre Lingüístic, una eina d’avaluació de l’adquisició lèxica del català adaptada a la llengua d’oc tant per a les escoles Calandretas, com a les escoles araneses.

- 28 de novembre del 2019, a les 19h.: 

CLOENDA DEL CICLE: El futur de l’ensenyament a Catalunya i a Occitània: reptes per a un aprenentatge col.laboratiu en un món de canvis socials i tecnològics per al s. XXI.

Participants de la taula: Sr. Xavier Moral, de la Direcció de Política Lingüística, Generalitat de Catalunya; Sr. Efrén Beltrán Roncal, sociolingüista en l'àmbit de l'ensenyament de l'occità.

Lloc: Seu dels Amics de la Unesco de Barcelona (Mallorca 207, pral.).

Taula rodona on es plantejarà la greu situació de l’occità com a llengua viva i els valors que es poden promoure amb l’ensenyament de les llengües minoritzades. Les relacions calalanoccitanes per fer front a un món dominat per una Globalització uniformitzadora i el paper de l’Escola per fer ciutadans lliures. Sense oblidar el paper de les noves tecnologies com eines d’aprenentatge i la necessitat d’adaptar-les el més aviat possible a l’occità. Accés lliure.
