the trent and colin and isaac dynamic in the football kiddos au is. So Important To Me. obviously trent and colin have got their whole Only I Get To Be Mean To Me Da thing going on, and then isaac. oh isaac.

so. colin was adopted, right? and he and isaac met in kindergarten (u.k. equivalent. i will research this but i am. too tired rn sorry) and isaac was colin's first friend in the whole world and they imprinted on each other like baby ducks. and in this fic, isaac's mum isn't around a whole lot. she's a single parent and she works tirelessly to support him so isaac's around at trent and colin's all the time. to the point where he's got his own overnight bag, essentially his own bed, etc.

and isaac and trent are. trent wasn't expecting to adopt two kiddos when he adopted colin, but then isaac came along and he never left. and he and trent both LOVE cooking so they cook together, and trent tells isaac all the Shakespeare Lore he knows (english/lit majors moment) and isaac tells trent all about the shenanigans colin's gotten up to at school, and then colin bursts in and demands that they stop gossiping Or Else.

(on father's day, isaac makes trent pancakes. they're a bit burnt. but still good. they're still good.)

Angst? In my comedy series? Yeah, I have no self control.

It wasn’t like Jamie didn’t know they thought he was immature. It wasn’t like Jamie didn’t know he was immature. He’d had a big discussion with Dr Sharon about it back when he’d first started seeing her. It involved a lot of links to studies and articles Jamie only kind of actually read, about how trauma can stunt emotional growth. They talked a lot about how Jamie raised himself and done kind of a shit job of it because he didn’t know how to raise anyone let alone himself at the ripe old age of five and half, so now he had to do a bunch of catching up. Dr Sharon talked a lot about how it was natural, and how well Jamie was doing all things considered, but it still made him feel fucking defective sometimes. Now all the lads were shoving it in his face, that he wasn’t up to par with them. And he could tell they thought it was silly, that Jamie was left playing catch up while they’d all made it to the finish line. No one had to put them to bed or sing them to sleep, because they’d all had someone who taught how to do it themselves back when they were wee little things but Jamie was learning all of it for the first time now.

The stars that burn the brightest are on their way out, they'd constantly remind you. You'd solemnly shake your head, whenever another Guardian fell in the line of duty. Their memory would live on, of course... As when a Starlet rejoins the Mother Sun, they are reborn anew once more.

The stars that burned the brightest were the closest your race ever got to being human. You had learned this... personally.

You stare silently, wide-eyed at the creature in the bat mask as he (?) curiously peers at you from the other side of the bars. It was painful to admit that you had slipped, and had been captured by the fae faction of a war that was being fought on this World. This war flew in the face of the history that had been woven into this land, and you had been sent down to curtail it, to bring the humans and faes back to peace... And yet, no matter how brightly you'd burn through your star-powered abilities, both the humans and faes were resilient and pig-headed. They were adamant in changing the course of history.

And somehow, in the midst of attempting to recover from the amount of energy you expended, this one had sneaked up on you.

"You humans are a fascinating folk..." His voice is slightly muffled behind his grotesque mask, but you could hear the curiosity vibrating on his chords. Unlike any other person you may encounter while down on this world, this one may not kill you on the spot.

Still, you bit your tongue on what you truly were.

Your captivity was a short one, but during it all, that little General (for he professed his rank, but nothing else) would come by each day and speak to you. Eventually, you found yourself opening up to him as well, despite everything. You tell him of your origins.

Was it to hope to foster unity in his heart? Perhaps.

Was it to hope to learn more about him? Most likely.

And when you finally did break out (your powers finally returning enough to break these fae enchantments), you had gotten one more glimpse of him as you disappeared into the stars. He stood silently, his mask slowly peeling off his face, a look of longing flickering in his raspberry eyes.

Something told you you'd see him again. You can feel the starlight pulse within you as you made your way to where all the Guardians of the Worlds dwell, the toll of your excursion taking hold.

Something told you you'd see him again. Maybe not in this lifetime... But maybe the next.

"Hm? What is it, Lilia?" You had caught the Diasomnia Vice Dorm Leader staring at you wistfully, his thumb absentmindedly brushing up against you knuckles. "You'll make me blush, with such an intense gaze."

"Oh, never mind me, dear." He says, a chuckle in the back of his throat, a timbre that still send shivers down your spine whenever you heard it. He picks up your hand and plants a kiss on the back of it, his eyes unwaveringly locked onto yours.

"I was only reminiscing of when we first met."

You laugh and feel a flush crawl across your cheeks. "I probably looked silly, jumping out of my chair in the cafeteria when you popped out of nowhere. Why would you think back on that so fondly?"

Another chuckles rises from him, as he shakes his head and looks up at the night sky. It's yet another date night with you, under the bright stars of Twisted Wonderland. His gaze has drifted far off, as if pulling a memory from a lifetime ago.

"Oh, I think back to that day fondly, more than you would ever know..."

ok so the THING IS.......... the Thing Is. i could talk about trent and colin forever. they are just. they are soooooooo!

it's the way trent was the first one to realize that colin is gay. it's the way he, a reporter of Many Years and known gossip fiend, kept that secret for colin without even Telling Colin That He Knew. and he could have! he very easily could have approached colin at any point during the season and been like, yo. i know what you are dot png. but he didn't! he chose to give colin the space to keep that secret, UNTIL he felt that colin was actively putting himself in "danger"/isolating himself to a concerning extent from the rest of the team. (i also think his Rainbow Mug TM was absolutely his subtle way of signaling to colin that he is a safe person, but colin is one of the himbos so we know how well that went). and then. and then!!! amsterdam!!!!! this was trent putting his foot down and being like. okay. you don't want people to know, that's fine. but i know, and you are not alone. You Are Not Alone. WAUUUUUUUUUGH.

ok this is getting Incredibly Long so i've put my football kiddos au-specific thoughts beneath the cut.

so........yeah. yeah!! for the football kiddos au, i ABSOLUTELY had to have trent and colin be a fabulous da and son duo. in my mind, colin was adopted when he was around 5, so the two of them have been in each others' lives for almost half of colin's life. and to me, trent is, like. Thee Ultimate Cool Dad. he's dorky as HELL but has just enough journalistic swagger that kids overlook his obscure literature references in favor of his Hella Fantastic Hair, etc. except colin. colin sees STRAIGHT through his da and he is Not Impressed. he has made it his life's mission to ensure that trent understands precisely how Uncool He Is. but if anyone else dares to tell colin that trent is weird, colin WILL bite their face off. there's a fierce protectiveness on both sides, and colin vets absolutely every single person who makes an attempt to date trent, and trent is fairly chill to let colin roam around and mess up and have fun and generally just Be A Kid. i also have a Lot of feelings abt how growing up with trent will lead to colin being a much more secure person, not only in regards to being gay but also just in generally aspect of his life, because colin is a Very Insecure Person! he doesn't have a lot of belief in himself, and he's not the best footballer, and.......and etc., etc. trent being colin's da will let colin grow up far more confident in Every Way, and i think colin being trent's son allows trent to in turn accept and discover his own sexuality much earlier, simply because. hey. i have this kiddo, and i want them to understand that it is okay to be who you are in this world. wait a minute. i should take my own advice. hmm.

and then there's the random mustachioed american next door and embarrassing flirting rituals and colin is banging his head into the wall because da. Da. Stop Being So Shameful. and then there's the dude with angry caterpillar eyebrows and his tiny five year old brother and trent is shoving colin down the hall because son. Son. There Is a Friend. Go. and they all meet and become a family and all is right in the world!!!!!!

are we going to see more of beard being a weird wise wizard, that poor pumpkin pie jamie cannot understand for the life of him but ultimately excepts and also (mostly) appreciates the small gestures and kind (kind of) things he does?

i could have just read the one scene of him last chapter utterly wrong in TATBP but i’m kind of hooked on the fact that beard is secretly a better person than everyone else.

(TAKE NATES RETURN FOR EXAMPLE!!! he acknowledged the hurt nate caused to the team especially colin and his bff for lifer theodore and held his own, it pisses me off that he doesn’t get the acknowledgment and recognition he deserves in life. like this man is a #lover AND a #fighter idec i love him)

this actually ended up just being a love letter to beard and a general rant (i could go on about nate’s return for dayssss especially in comparison to jamie but dear lord don’t get me started on that.) so my apologies PAHA

I don't know about weird wise wizard or Jamie being a poor pumpkin pie seeing as he's a 28 year old man with a house and a job and a mortgage in tatbp, but I do plan on Beard being a voice of reason among the coaches.

Ted and Roy both have very strong reactions to meeting Jamie again, while Beard while not unbias himself has a bit more distance from it all just from a personal stand point, so he gets to chime in when people are being unfair.

A fun thing about tatbp is that character development for almost everybody has occurred over the last five years between Jamie quitting and the events of the story, which extends beyond the show as well because the show only spans around three years and with characters like Beard I get to show case it through how they respond to situations in pretty subtle ways.

In canon, especially in season one, it's pretty rare for Beard to speak out against Ted's decisions despite the fact Beard's opinion is something that Ted holds in high regard and will listen too, even when they have very obvious differing opinions.

I've got my personal headcanons about Beards almost blind loyalty to Ted and how I think that affects his self worth taking their history with each other into account, and I like to think that over the last five years, he's grown a lot from that and is more willing to speak out when Ted is going a bit overboard or approaching things in a way that Beard doesn't agree with since in my mind after five years, they are very firmly partners who are equals, not the main character and quirky sidekick.

what can I say, I like it when characters grow in nuanced and sometimes subtle ways, and Beard is not an exception!

"Oh, what's this?" A long tress of black and red fall across your shoulder, a head peaking out from behind you with a fanged smile. You resist the urge to yelp as you see Lilia's face come into view, surprising you once again, as he was wont to do.

"Were you searching for me, Hana?" Lilia's voice is a tad deeper than what you had been used to for all those years at NRC, and you can't say you've gotten used to his original height, either. A blush rushes across your cheeks as you nod, happy to see him.

"Kufufu, it was rude of me to keep you waiting for so long." He chuckles, spinning you around to face him. The red highlights in his hair beautifully bounce off his raspberry red eyes, a whirlpool of light that you easily find yourself lost in.

Lilia takes your hand and places it against his cheek. His eyes never leaves yours. "I'm pleased you're here for me. I would do the same... I would spend eternity searching for you if it meant I could be by your side. Thank you."

i have so many thoughts about academic rivals tbh!! i could definitely see heeseung bc yeah he's so talented and i think academic rivals just suits his personality so well, too!! like once he notices that you two are the top of your class, he's probably being a bit smug and likes the competition that you bring him! and ofc he falls for u after getting to know you for more than your smarts!

i also think jake would suit academic rivals, but in a very different way!! while heeseung might tease you whenever he gets a better grade, jake would probably be less teasing and more prideful if that makes sense? like he's proud of himself and he's proud of you so he doesn't rlly try and tease you about your grade if it's lower than his. and truthfully, while heeseung might take his time to fall for you, i think jake fits the idea of like he fell first and he fell harder. like he's always known you're smart and he just admires you so much to the point where he's fallen for you before you guys have probably even properly talked!! he's pining tho and he wants ur attention 🤭

     a couple of messages sent back and forth, in about 15 minutes, she’d shown up at his door with the ready mix cookie batter. there was a wide smile on his lips the moment he opened the door to them, absolutely feeling the weight of missing their absence being lifted off his shoulders when she smiles right back at him. he opens the door a little wider, inviting her inside. “ didn’t think you’d get any lovelier until i laid eyes on you with the ready mix box in your hands. you’re bringing heaven into my home — ” he teases as they walk in, closing the door behind them. “ you ready to make a mess ? ”

i'm actually about to THROW A FUCKING fit, a part my coffee cup that my grandmother bought me like THREE MONTHS ago just broke. WHAT THE FUCK WHY IS EVERYTHING BREAKING.

and then, yesterday morning my other zipper on my cosmetic bag seperated from the zipper line i'm actually about to cry because my grandmother also bought me that.
