Heyo, I made some Spooky Family doodles for Twitter since I was participating in a Spooky Month Inktober! I didn’t manage to finish it (I never have before-) but I did get some good sketches in. So here they are, and the themes they’re based on! (Some even include l o r e)
“Cult”
Tumblr media
So the cultists are actually actively trying to get to Skid and Pump. However, it never works out for them since the spookeez have a ton of monster friends. A cultist with bad intentions getting a bit too close to the boys may result in them being eaten.
“Ice cream”
Tumblr media
Heehoo funny ice cream
“Pumpkin”
Tumblr media
Jack o’ lantern carving! Skid has acquired pumpkin goop and is boutta do a lil trolling
“Skeleton”
Tumblr media
Here he is! The skeleton! The boy child!! Lila is very proud of he
“Mystery”
Tumblr media
Some mysterious dads, what could be spookier? The figure on the right is Pump’s father, not his actual appearance of course, but the design that I’ve chosen to represent him with. I don’t think I want to design what he really looks like, I prefer when he stays mysterious, like Skid’s dad. Plus, I don’t think he deserves a face either.
“Friends”
Tumblr media
Well, who other to draw then the two spookiest boys having a spooky time?
“Scary”
Tumblr media
So I actually drew this before the 5th SM episode came out, but it still feels pretty fitting. Don’t worry, Skid’ll be fine. He gets out of spooky trouble like he always does!

That GM prequel fic - part 3: Florence's POV
Part 1 (Madeleine, <1k, G)
Part 2 (Scarlet, 1k, G)
Ships: Floreleine & ScarletMay
Hiding the entire fic under the readmore this time for Part 1+2 spoiler reasons! This one's also rated G (or T if we're going for swear words and alcohol consumption I guess), a little over 1k words.
There will be at least 1 more part of this, and then I might post a revised and possibly longer version to ao3.
Bc idk where to put this in the fic itself yet, quick setting overview: they're not sitting around a table but instead Florence and Madeleine are sitting on a small couch, Scarlet is next to Madeleine on a wobbly kitchen chair and Anna May is sitting opposite them on a barstool at the kitchen aisle.
That night, the librarians plus Scarlet (and minus Baby, who is sleeping in the next room under a security camera that both Madeleine and Scarlet insist on checking every other minute) are sitting in the kitchen together for dinner and a drink.
Or five drinks in Anna May's case, as she downs the first one in one go and hasn't let go of the Whiskey bottle since. Florence can't blame her, really - if Madeleine had run off with some guy, no matter how early in their relationship, only to return a year later with tears and a baby... She has no idea what she'd be doing right now.
Madeleine and Scarlet are talking about the child right now, sharing child-caring advice - Florence is fairly certain that Madeleine has her knowledge from books and only from books, but she seems to have picked out sound advice from all that she has read at least - and Florence has to smile fondly at how Madeleine is glowing at the prospect of having a child in the library.
Scarlet is careful in her replies, not wanting to commit to anything, her eyes shifting back to Anna May whenever she doesn't think that the others are looking.
'She's afraid she'll kick her out after all,' Florence thinks with a quiet sigh. 'Can't blame her, Anna knows how to hold a grudge, and with how she is drinking right now... It isn't her friendliest appearance'.
Still, she thinks that they will work it out. They better. It's been a while since she has seen Anna May have an emotional reaction to just about anything, and it can't be healthy to keep it all locked inside, pushing all chances of happiness away.
Madeleine must have heard her sigh, and she leans back against Florence's side. Florence squeezes her arm, content to have her by her side, glad that they, at least, don't have to worry about their relationship status. Being with Madeleine always relaxes her, makes her feel like everything is alright in the world.
Madeleine presses a kiss to her chin and, after checking that both Scarlet and Anna May are looking down at their glasses, nods in the direction of the door. 'Should we give those two some privacy?'
Florence tilts her head for a moment to consider, then shakes her head, nodding at Anna May, and Madeleine winces a little. Yes, Anna is barely keeping it together now, who knows what she may say or rather shout if they left them alone... Anna May should get a chance to cool down, before she ends up saying something she doesn't mean and would regret.
As if on cue, Anna May throws back the rest of the Whiskey in her glass in one gulp and loudly brings it down on the kitchen counter as if to dispel the silence that has fallen.
"Fuck."
Madeleine looks like she wants to remind her about cursing with children in the house again, but Florence squeezes her arm to stop her. They don't need to irritate Anna May even more right now.
"I'm sorry," Scarlet says immediately. Florence doesn't think that she is apologizing for anything in particular, just for the situation in general, for present and past.
Anna May gets up and turns around, putting her glass in the sink and turning on the water, but then just leaning against it with her hands holding onto the metal edge and her knuckles turning white.
Florence is trying to decide whether to step in or not when Scarlet speaks up again in a shaky voice. "I can - I can leave, I don't have to -" she gets up, clearly ready to bolt, and Anna May flinches, but she doesn't turn back around.
"No-one's" leaving, Florence says at the same time as Madeleine says "No, don't be silly!" They share a smile, and then Madeleine squeezes her hand before getting up and walking over to Madeleine. "Come on, let me show you everything. You can sleep in the room with Samantha, me and Florence aren't really using it much anyway."
Florence watches them go with a soft smile. Madeleine always knows what to do, what to say. She's so grateful to have her.
Once the other two have left, Florence goes up to Anna May and slams the still-running tap down, making her jump.
"Stop wasting water and get a hold of yourself, Anna!"
Anna May whirls around, clearly ready to fight, but Florence just throws her a deadpan look and she deflates.
"Fuck, I don't know what to do." She slurs her words a little, but not as much as Florence would have expected after that much alcohol.
"Right now? You are going to drink some water so you will not be terribly hungover tomorrow. And tomorrow, you have got to think about whether you want that woman and her kid to stick around or not."
Anna May flinches a little, but when Florence sighs and pours her a glass of water, she takes it without protest and gulps most of it down in one go.
"I dun' want her to leave," she then murmurs, staring down at the glass in her hands. "She left me once, I don't want her to leave me again."
Florence sighs and pulls her into a hug. "Bloody hell, Anna, why did you never say anything? You must have been fucking heartbroken, and all you told us was that you gave dating one last chance."
Anna May half-laughs, half-sobs and clings to Florence like a lifeline. "Don't know. Didn't want to be weak. Didn't want it to be real."
"Oh, Anna," Florence sighs and squeezes her tightly. Then she takes a step back and fixes her with a hard look. "You've got to tell her that, you know that, Anna May? She is going to run away just to give you space while you are not talking to her because you're afraid she might run anyway."
Anna May sighs and grimaces a little, but nods. "I - tomorrow. I'll tell her tomorrow, before I can chicken out." she sighs. "I mean, it's not like I know whether she'd want to - whether she still-" she sighs. "She only left me because he didn't want to share, but maybe by now she's just over me."
Florence shrugs. "I can't look in her head, Anna, but from the way she looks at you... I think you guys will figure it out."
Anna May nods uncertainty, then frowns again. "And you'd be fine with it, if she's staying here... Indefinitely? I mean, she has a - kid -" she adds with a somewhat perplexed expression on her face, making Florence laugh. She's half of a mind to say 'congrats, you're a step-mom!' but stops herself at the last second. There will be time for that kind of joke when the peace between Anna May and that Scarlet isn't quite so fragile anymore. "Exactly," she instead replies. "So you know Madeleine will be mad at you forever if you let them get away."
Anna May snorts. "She did seem quite... taken by the kid."
Florence nods, frowning a little herself now. "She's always wanted kids, she just accepted that it isn't sensible in our line of work, and that I am not interested in them anyway. Seeing her with Samantha, now I'm wondering..."
"You did nothing wrong," Anna May reassures her. "And fuck, can you imagine having two kids around? It will be bad enough, trying to protect the one from everybody."
Florence sighs and nods. "I suppose. But I'm sure we'll manage. ...are you going to be alright now, or do I have to hide the Whiskey?"
"I'm not a drunk," Anna May replies a little offended, and Florence grins.
"I know you're not, but you sure made a great impression of one earlier!"
Anna May groans, and then she turns back to the counter to refill her waterglass. "Fuck, I'll be so dead tomorrow."
"Sleep in, then. Me 'n Madeleine will make sure Scarlet won't take off before you're awake and had your talk with her."
Anna May nods sharply. Florence smiles and squeezes her arm. "Well, get some sleep. I'll check on Scarlet and Madeleine."
~
Anna May nods again, and Florence sees her lean back against the counter with a deep sigh while she is leaving the kitchen. She really hopes that Anna May will take her advice to heart. Some heartbreak can't be avoided- but the one between her and Scarlet doesn't seem quite so inevitable.

Divine duo part 2
The two pairs found themselves at the cafeteria in Rex's chaldea eating lunch this time. Just like in Faye's chaldea Rex and Quetz were eating very "healthy" meals, while Faye and Eresh were partaking in the stew that was enjoyed in Babylonia.
Eresh found herself right in front of the hungry Quetzalcoatl, watching her devour a sandwich mercilessly.
Eresh: you're really enjoying that sandwich huh?
Quetz: well like we said at breakfast we need the energy. After you guys leave we're going full force with our training!
Faye: how often do you two train?
Rex: every day that we can, it's best to turn these things into routine.
While the four were talking a familiar pair of figures were coming to the group, tho slowly and with a lot of struggling from one of the two. Eventually Faye and Eresh notice the two.
Faye: ...hey, is that... Ishtar?
Rex, looking over: oh yeah! What's she doing?
Eventually the goddess was finally at the table with the other hooded figure. It was Ishtar for sure, but she looked different, with red tattoos all over her and shining blue bull like horn ornaments in place of the crown Faye and Eresh were used to.
Ishtar: hello master! Is this that Faye person you mentioned?
Rex: why yes it is.
Ishtar: it's so good to see you Faye! And you two other sister!
As she says this she shakes the hands of both Faye and Eresh.
Faye: Ishtar... are you planning something?
Ishtar: ...normally I'd be offended but I'll cut to the chase. Yes I am! I've brought the Ereshkigal of our world to meet you!
Faye: oh!
The hooded figure hid behind Ishtar, it was clear that she was the other Ereshkigal. While mostly covered, you could see a glimpse of her arm which showed a mark similar to Ishtar's tattoos but black in color. While the Eresh of Faye's world could be shy, this one definitely seemed way more timid.
Eresh: hey. No need to hide! We won't bite!
The other Eresh peaked out a bit, showing more of her face from under the hood.
Faye: why hello there Ereshkigal! It's nice to meet you!
The hooded Eresh blushed but just barely managed to say a few words.
Hood Eresh: h-h-hello F-faye. I've h-heard about y-you from m-master...
Faye: that's so nice to hear!
Rex: Faye, you should say that thing you say to Eresh.
Faye: oh! OK!
The more timid Eresh blushed even harder and immediately shook her head towards Rex, clearly too panicked by what he requested of Faye.
But then Faye grabbed the other Eresh's hand and looked her in the eyes
Faye: you're quite beautiful today my goddess!
Immediately Rex's Eresh fainted, only to be caught by her sister.
Ishtar: oh my! Looks like she couldn't handle it! Well I'll take her to the infirmary to make sure she's fine, but I will be bringing her back!
After this was said Ishtar carried her sister off.
Quetz: goodness, I knew she'd be excited to see you but I didn't think she'd faint!
Faye: I'm surprised too! Rex your Eresh makes mine look like Irkalla!
Rex: yeah... was never sure why she was like that.
Eventually the group finished up and Rex decided to take them to Quetz's temple room. When they reached the room they saw 4 other figures in the room. Before the group could get very far into the temple room the four that were already in there approach them.
The group were the other Quetzes, it seemed they had similar intentions to Irkalla in Faye's chaldea. From left to right Faye and Eresh saw Kuku, Ququ, Slayer and Xiu. They all had different hairstyles from the original, Kuku had a shorter spikey looking ponytail. Ququ had her hair in a long more traditional ponytail and Xiu had a more high up pony tail with an actual fire at the end of it.
First Kuku spoke up
Kuku: so this is the other master? Interesting.
Ququ: she's kinda cute, not as cute as mi amor tho.
Xiu: noticeably shorter too.
Those three seemed just as lively as Quetz but Slayer, who was completely decked out in her armor, stood there silently. It seemed like she was scanning the pair.
Rex: ok ladies! Please don't bother the two too much! They're guests and we should respect them! Also Slayer please take off your helmet.
Slayer did take it off, begrudgingly. She looked like Quetz like the others, with her hair done in a bun to prevent it getting in the way while wearing the helmet, and a bit scarred on her face too.
Faye: it's so nice to meet you all!
Ququ: nice to meet you too Faye!
Quetz: what are you all doing in here anyways?
Xiu: we wanted to meet Faye and knew you'd show her the temple.
Rex: that's nice to hear.
Rex showed Faye and Eresh around the place, it was huge! Eventually he took the pair to the special mural.
Faye: oh! Is this meant to be Quetz's family?
Rex: yeah....
Faye observed the mural, she wasn't nearly as familiar with the mesoamerican pantheon but eventually she noticed the interesting figure at the center next to the serpent.
Faye: huh... I didn't expect there to be a... T-rex as part of the family...
Rex: well... not yet...
Faye: hmm?
Quetz: hehehe, that's actually mi amor!
Eresh: huh?! That's meant to be Rex?!
Quetz: si! He's eventually going to join me in my heavenly domain!
Faye: really!? You can do that!?
Quetz: my family's ok with it! So it'll happen!
Faye immediately grabbed Eresh's hands to ask her a question.
Faye: my goddess!
Eresh: huh!?
Faye: do you think you can do the same?!
Eresh, blushing: uuuuhhh... w-well maybe... if I can convince father... but I'm not sure...
Faye: I'm sure you can! Or at least get your sister to help!
Eresh: Faye calm down! We're not even married yet and now you're talking about all this?!
Faye calmed down after Eresh said this.
Faye: yeah... sorry about that.
After a bit it was time for the two to leave. But while they were about to leave Ishtar returned with the other Eresh.
Ishtar: wait! Before you go! She has something to say!
Faye: hmm? What is it?
Hood Eresh: u-um, w-well... c-can c-can I-I...
Ishtar: oh for the love of- can she go with you?!
Faye: huh?!
Eresh: what?!
Faye: you want to come with us?
Hood Eresh: yes! I do! I'm sorry Rex but I want to be Faye's servant!
Rex: I'm not even surprised honestly.
Quetz: si... it seems Faye has a similar effect on Ereshes as mi amor has on me's.
Faye: well... I'm fine with it... are you really ok with it Rex?
Rex: well... for the most part... but let's be fair and make it a trade.
Faye: trade?
Rex: yeah, should be obvious.
Eresh: Quetz is that OK?
Quetz: sure... I'm fine with it... I'm still number one!
Faye: ok then!
Faye contacted her Da Vinci
Faye: Da Vinci! Get Quetzalcoatl!
Da Vinci: alright!
After a bit of waiting Faye's Samba Qutez came in
Samba Quetz: what is it master?
Faye: you said you'd like for Rex to bring you with him, were you for real?
Samba Quetz: ...si, I was.
Faye: then get ready, you're coming to join him!
Samba Quetz: que?! For real?!
Faye: yeah! He's giving me his Eresh so you're joining him!
Samba Quetz: o-okay!
Faye's Quetz was sent to Rex's chaldea. The two masters switching contracts with the servants and finally Faye was leaving with both of her goddesses. But of course the new Eresh had to say bye to her sister.
Hood Eresh: bye sis!
Ishtar: goodbye sister! Make sure to call often!
Hood Eresh: of course!
Faye: seeya Rex! This was too fun! And I got the best souvenir from it all!
Rex: you say that but I think I got the better end of the deal! Goodbye for now!
Faye: bye!
And like that the other master returned to her world. Now Rex has Another Quetzalcoatl with him.
Samba Quetz: this is pretty exciting! So what now?!
Rex: lucha training!
Samba Quetz: !!! I already love you mi amor!!!!
Quetz: ...*sigh* well let's get started!
A/N: well there's the second part of the crossover. Hopefully you all enjoyed it! Thanks again to @hasereshdoneanythingwrong for letting me use their master and servant and for the ok for the trade at the end!

Hi! I saw your message. I didn't mind if you posted it, but thank you for taking the time to consider my thoughts on that!
I wanted to apologize for spamming your notifications! Incase I'm coming off as weird or anything.
I know what it's like to receive like zero encouragement on writing via the internet on writing and how discouraging it is, so I just wanted to give back some of the joy you've given me as the reader.
I've loved a lot of fics but TTFATTF really hit home for me in a way I didn't go into reading it expecting it. The movie also speaks very much to me. The characters' journey of grieving/mourning a loved one, plus going through a dystopia alien apocolypse (parallel it with the pandemic), and getting into the path of healing spoke to me for various reasons, and I was pleasantly surprised at how you are having the characters deal with it all. TTFATTF quite literally ✨hit me✨ in the feels. Thank you for sharing it. (No pressure or anything on the writing. I don't mean to just plant something heavy onto your shoulders. omg.) I've read through comments on TTFATTF and I know I'm not the only one this fic speaks to.
Also: JOHN KRASINSKI ANSWER FOR YOUR CRIMES. I needed like 30 more minutes of AQP2.
I can't wait for when you post the new fic! 90s Evemett here I come!!!
I'm so totally glad that you are doing what you need to take care of yourself. Purge writing and then not taking any breaks is the worst and I've done it one too many times that coming out of it is like overcoming a bad hangover.
Sorry for the long ask! You can post this or answer it privately! Whatever you're comfortable with. Bye! 👋
ok first off - you're absolutely not spammy at all & i love it & also im a crazy person who reads everyone's tags when they reblog things JDKLFJSFL.
Gosh, I really cannot express how happy that makes me to hear like - it's so nice to KNOW that the story resonates with so many people especially in regard to topics like grief/mourning/healing. liKe yes you're not the first person to mention this but gosh it is so VALIDATING to hear as a writer. because you know, i sometimes feel like im stumbling through it. so yEAH. idk. just big thank you all around. <3
JOHN. ANSWER FOR UR CRIMES!!! yeah, i understand WHY he ended it the way he did (he was big on parallels/callbacks to the first movie) and the first movie ended with Evelyn loading the shotgun, so it makes sense that he'd end the 2nd with the children standing over the monsters they defeated. From a cinematic standpoint/creative standpoint, I GET IT, but also yeah, I would've loved just a little bit more.
AHHH 90S EVELYN/EMMETT. I am so thrilled to share it. It's been a comfort to write during this crazy transition period in my life. Because I can be SOFT and SELF-INDULGENT lmao !!!
and yes, I've honestly taken a break from writing TTFATTF and am focusing on the AU for now - at least until I'm at my new house & in my own bed lol. It's all about that comfort ~
Alsooooo pls omg don't worry about sending long asks. I love it. I feel like I'm making friends :,) and it's nice to know that other people, even if it's only a handful of us, connected to the movie/the characters.

How to Get More Organic Traffic Without Doing Any SEO (Seriously)
Tumblr media
You all know SEO is a long-term game… at least when it comes to Google.
And yes, who doesn’t want to be at the top of Google for some of the most competitive terms? But the reality is, we don’t all have the budget or time.
So then, what should you do?
Well, what if I told you there were simple ways to get more organic traffic and, best of all, you don’t have to do one bit of SEO?
Seriously.
So, what is it? And how can you get more organic traffic?
Well, this story will help explain it…
The old days
When I first started my journey as an SEO, I got really good at one thing.
Getting rankings!
Now to be fair, this was back in 2003 when it wasn’t that hard to rank on Google (or any other search engine for that matter).
Stuff some keywords into your page, your meta tags, and build some spammy rich anchor text links and you were good to go.
You could literally see results in less than a month.
SEO wasn’t too complicated back then. So much so, that I even started an SEO agency and created a handful of sites.
Tumblr media
I was starting to rank my sites at the top of Google but they didn’t make a dollar. Literally, not a single dollar.
In fact, I was actually losing money on them because I had to pay for the domain registration expenses and hosting.
So, one day I decided that I was tired of losing money and I was going to do something about it. I took the keywords that I was ranking for and started to type them into Google to see who was paying for ads for those terms.
I hit up each of those sites and tried to get a hold of the owner or the person in charge of marketing.
I asked them how much they were paying for ads and offered them the same exact traffic for a much lower price. I was able to do this because I already had sites that ranked for those keywords.
In other words, I offered to rent out my website for a monthly fee that was a fraction of what they were paying for paid ads.
Next thing you know I was collecting 5 figures in monthly checks and my “renters” were ecstatic because they were generating sales at a fraction of the costs compared to what they were spending on paid ads.
So, what’s the strategy?
Well, it’s simple. Back in the day, I used to rent out my websites… the whole site.
These days I’ve learned how to monetize my own site, so I don’t rent them out.
But you know what, most of the sites that rank on Google are content-based sites. Over 56% of a website’s organic traffic is typically going to their blog or articles.
Tumblr media
So why not rent a page on someone else’s site? From there, modify that page a bit to promote your products or services?
I know this sounds crazy, but it works. I have one person that just reaches out to site owners asking if we can rent out a page on their site. We do this for all industries and verticals… and when I look at how much we are spending versus how much income we are generating, it’s crazy.
Here are the stats for the last month:
Rental fees: $24,592
Outreach costs: $3,000
Legal costs: $580
Copywriting and monetization costs: $1,500
Total monthly cost: $29,672
Now guess what my monthly income was?
It was $79,283.58.
Not too bad.
Now your cost on this model won’t be as high as mine because you can do your own outreach, monetize the page you are renting on your own, and you probably don’t need a lawyer.
And don’t be afraid of how much I am spending in rental fees as you can get away with spending $0 in the first 30 days as I will show you exactly what to do.
Remember, it’s also not what you are spending, it’s about profit and what you are making. If it won’t cost you any money in the first 30 days and you can generate income, your risk is little to none.
Here are the exact steps you need to follow:
Step #1: Find the terms you want to rank for
If you already know the terms you want to rank for, great, you can skip this step.
If you don’t, I want you to head to Ubersuggest and type in a few of your competitors’ URLs.
Head over to the top pages report and look at their top pages.
Tumblr media
Now click on “view all” under the estimated visits column to see a list of keywords that each page ranks for.
Tumblr media
I want you to create a list of all of the keywords that contain a high search volume and have a high CPC. Keywords with a high CPC usually mean that they convert well.
Keywords with a low CPC usually mean they don’t convert as well.
When you are making a list of keywords, you’ll need to make sure that you have a product or service that is related to each keyword. If you don’t then you won’t be able to monetize the traffic.
Step #2: Search for the term
It’s time to do some Google searches.
Look for all of the pages that rank in the top 10 for the term you ideally want to rank for.
Don’t waste your time with page 2.
What I want you to look for is:
Someone who isn’t your competitor. Your competition isn’t likely to rent out a page on their site to you.
A page that isn’t monetized. Not selling a product or service. (If the page has ads, don’t worry.)
A site owned by a smaller company… a publicly-traded company isn’t likely to do a deal. A venture-funded company isn’t likely to do a deal either (Crunchbase will tell you if they are venture-funded).
Step #3: Hit up the website
Typically, through their contact page, they should have their email addresses or phone number listed. If they have a contact form, you can get in touch that way as well.
If you can’t find their details, you can do a whois lookup to see if you can find their phone number.
What’ll you want to do is get them on the phone. DO NOT MAKE YOUR PITCH OVER EMAIL.
It just doesn’t work well over email.
If you can’t find their phone number, email them with a message that goes something like this…
Subject: [their website name]
Hey [insert first name],
Do you have time for a quick call this week?
We’ve been researching your business and we would like to potentially make you an offer.
Let me know what works for you.
Cheers,
[insert your name]
[insert your company]
[insert your phone number]
You want to keep the email short as I have found that it tends to generate more calls.
Once you get them on the phone, you can tell them a little bit about yourself. Once you do that, tell them that you noticed they have a page or multiple pages on their website that interest you.
Point out the URL and tell them how you are interested in giving them money each month to rent out the page and you wouldn’t change much of it… but you need some more information before you can make your offer.
At this point, you’ll want to find out how much traffic that page generates and the keywords it ranks for. They should have an idea by just looking at their Google Analytics (you’ll find most of these sites don’t use Google Search Console).
Once you have that, let them know that you will get in touch with them in the next few days after you run some numbers.
Go back, try to figure out what each click is worth based on a conservative conversion rate of .5%. In other words, .if 5% of that traffic converted into a customer, what would the traffic be worth to you after all expenses?
You’ll want to use a conservative number because you can’t modify the page too heavily or else you may lose rankings.
Once you have a rough idea of what the page is worth, get back on the phone with them and say you want to run tests for 30 days to get a more solid number on what you can pay them as you want to give them a fair offer.
Typically, most people don’t have an issue because they aren’t making money from the page in the first place.
Step #4: Monetize the page
If you are selling a product, the easiest way to monetize is to add links to the products you are selling.
For example, if you are selling a kitchen appliance like a toaster, you can add links from the article to your site.
Just like this article.
The easiest way to monetize a blog post is to add links to products or services you are selling.
Tumblr media
Don’t delete a lot of the content on the page you are modifying… adding isn’t too much of an issue but when you delete content sometimes you will lose rankings.
As for a service-based business, linking out to pages on your site where people can fill out their lead information is great.
Or you can just add lead capturing to the page you are renting out. Kind of like how HubSpot adds lead forms on their site.
Tumblr media
I’ve actually found that they convert better than just linking out to your site.
When monetizing the page you are renting, keep in mind that you will need disclaimers to let people know that you are collecting their information for privacy purposes. You also should disclose you are renting out the page.
Once you are monetizing the page for a bit, you’ll have a rough idea of what it is worth and you can make an offer on what you’ll page.
I recommend doing a 12-month contract in which you can opt-out with a 30-day notice.
The reason you want a 12-month agreement is that you don’t want to have to keep renegotiating. I also include the 30-day opt-out notice in case they lose their rankings, you can opt-out.
And to clarify on the op-out clause, I have it so only I can opt-out and they are stuck in the agreement for a year.
Conclusion
SEO isn’t the only way you can get more organic traffic.
Being creative, such as renting pages that already rank is an easy solution. Best of all, you can get results instantly and it’s probably cheaper than doing SEO in the long run.
The only issue with this model is that it is really hard to scale.
If I were you, I would do both. I, of course, do SEO on my own site because it provides a big ROI. And, of course, if you can rent out the pages of everyone else who ranks for the terms you want to rank for, it can provide multiple streams of income from SEO.
The beauty of this is model is that you can take up more than one listing on page 1. In theory, you can take up all 10 if you can convince everyone to let you rent their ranking page.
So, what do you think of the idea? Are you going to try it out?

How to Get More Organic Traffic Without Doing Any SEO (Seriously)
Now click on “view all” under the estimated visits column to see a list of keywords that each page ranks for.

Instagram Growth Strategies: 11 Proven Techniques to Grow Your Instagram Followers Quickly
Tumblr media
Instagram has over 1 billion monthly active users, and it’s declared as a well-loved social media outlet (for comparison, the population of the US is over 325 million…!). Having a more substantial Instagram following can mean more sales for your business, more views on your blog, and a stronger community for your brand. But how in the world do some people have thousands of Instagram followers? (Psst, this incredible tool helped me bring my Instagram to the next level.) Today, I’ve got 11 actionable tips to help you grow your Instagram followers.
Liking pictures of your niche
There was an online conference where Susan Petersen (CEO of Freshly Picked) talked about how she grew her Instagram to have almost 400,000 followers. (Right now she has over 800,000!) She said that in the early days, she would spend hours liking other people’s photos each night. Her suggestion? Go through and like 5-10 photos on someone’s account. It would also help to leave a genuine comment and give them a follow. It helps to get your name out there and allows other users to discover you.  I’d also suggest doing this primarily to users in your niche. How do you find users in your niche? Check hashtags, or view the followers of your favorite Instagrammers. Overall, be authentic and not spammy — ain’t nobody got time for spam.
Create a unique theme for your photos
Cool, so if you followed #1, people will naturally start to notice your username and may check out your account. Give them something to fall in love with! I’ve found that it helps to create a theme for your Instagram. Write down a few words that you want people to associate with your account. For mine, I hope people glean that it’s bright, artistic, and full of love. Which words would you use for your account? Once you’ve settled on a theme, try your hardest to stick to it! There are a lot of tools like Canva, Stensil, and Snappa available that can help you in creating a theme quickly.
Socialize more
Responding to the comments you receive and leaving comments of your own on others’ work helps in making a good relationship with the followers. Rather than something stale like, “cute dress,” try to leave genuine comments and questions that encourage them to post more photos. This way you can show your presence to your followers as well attract new too. In case if you don’t get enough time to comment on other peoples post, you can try our tool  Insta Captain. It offers a fully customized auto commenting feature that can comment and respond on your behalf.
Tumblr media
The process is pretty simple; you need to make an account and follow the steps given below carefully. The auto comment feature of Insta Captain allows you to target audiences of your niche. You can filter them by the number of followers. Select the accounts with minimum followers and maximum followings. Let suppose if you’re looking for profiles with 10K followers and less than 100 followings. These kind of accounts are great with engaging audiences. After that, you need to select gender. If your audiences are gender-specific, you can choose one; otherwise, you can select both too. (Also, you can skip private profiles with no profiles pictures or business profiles using a filter)Now you need to click on the “comment” button, and that’s it.
Create a hashtag and encourage others to use it, too.
It is a great way to build community and gain new content for your account. First of all, create a unique hashtag (make sure it’s not already being used!) and ask others to use it. It works best if the hashtag has a specific purpose. For example, A Beautiful Mess encourages followers to use #ABMLifeIsColorful on all of their colorful, happy photos. Once people start using your hashtag (and YOU use it, too!), then you can repost images from your followers (giving them proper credit, of course!). Not only does this build community by showing your followers that you appreciate their photos, but it also gives you content for your account.
Try running some contests
If you have something you’d like to give away, try running a game. Some ideas? Have users repost a specific image and tag you in the caption. Ask them to follow you. Or invite them to use your hashtag on their pictures. You could even try a loop giveaway if you want to collaborate with other Instagrammers.
Use Instagram Stories
Believe it or not, Instagram Stories are rapidly growing in popularity, to over 400 million daily users. Many users even report they love watching Stories more than the endless “scroll” of their feed. Get creative with your Stories. Take your followers behind the scenes and show them the most exciting parts of your day. Ask questions. Use polls, quirky GIFs, and music. Play with filters and Boomerangs. It is a fantastic way to start getting comfortable on video and connect with your followers in an even more profound way.
Encourage your followers to take action.
As simple as it may sound, people are more likely to do something if you ask them to do it. Are you sharing a quote? Ask them to “like” your photo if they agree with it! Sharing something funny or relatable? Ask your followers to tag a friend! Ask open-ended questions! If you put the idea out there, it will encourage your followers to act accordingly.
Always add the location of your photos
Posting a photo of that cool restaurant or city you recently visited? Geotag it! That way, other people who used the same geotag can see your picture and potentially follow you since you now have so much in common (like that french toast you both had last weekend).  In case you’re confused, geotagging your photos means you tag it with a location.
Figuring out your audience’s preference
Do a little research, yo. Go back through your photos and see which ones got the most likes and comments — and of course, the least. What clicks with your audience and why? How can you incorporate more photos like that into your feed?
Connecting your Instagram Account with other platforms
If you have a blog, Twitter, or Facebook, then you might assume your people are already following you on every platform. Hint: they probably aren’t! Share a quick tweet or Facebook post, encouraging them to follow you on Instagram…it will reel in more followers than you think. This will help your followers on other networks discover your Instagram account — and proceed to follow you there, too!
Go for collaborations
Think outside the box! Ask another Instagrammer in your niche if you can “take over their account” for the day as a guest contributor. Instagram Story takeovers are a blast and can dramatically grow your following fast. Or start an Instagram challenge with daily prompts. Ultimately, think of fun, creative ways to collaborate with other users. Even you can use our tool Insta Captain’s auto DM features to send texts directly to the influencers working on same niches. You can filter peoples with hashtags, places, and interests.
Tumblr media
The process is pretty simple. Just type the hashtags of your niche. After that, set the status to active and save it. Now you’ve to click on the “Messages” button and here you need to type the message you want to share with the users. That’s it. Now whenever someone uses those hashtags, your message will be sent to their Instagram account directly. Read the full article

Expired Domains for SEO: Generating Up to $35K/m from Best Product Reviews
Tumblr media
“Hey Glen. My name is Suumit and I wanted to share a case study of how I launched an Amazon affiliate site from scratch and hit $28,000/m in just eight months.”
I didn’t know who Suumit was or how he got my Skype ID, but if you’re going to message me out of the blue, that’s the kind of introduction that will get my attention.
Three days later he shared the website in question and some of the strategies behind growing it so quickly.
I didn’t need to look at his income reports to believe the numbers (though I would later check them). A quick glance at Ahrefs showed he was dominating the “best [product]” keyphrases for his particular niche and still is months later.
So why did he want to reveal his secrets to me? And why did he also want to share them with Detailed readers?
There were two reasons, he tells me.
The first was to use my audience as a platform for personal goals. “I’m a big believer that knowledge which makes people’s lives better should be freely available. So, I hope this case study will help people out there to understand how SEO is evolving” he typed.
The second goal, he stated, was to connect with me personally.
I admired his altruism but can’t deny I was skeptical. Especially when I asked if he wanted to promote any other resources in our interview together and he politely declined.
Maybe he plans to sell the site later. Maybe he wants a bigger audience in the world of SEO. Maybe he believed a backlink from Detailed might help.
I can’t know for certain, but there’s one thing I’m sure about: This guy is smart.
After talking with him at length on Skype, I got a better idea of why he wants to talk about a site that makes more than $10,000 on a bad month, with little upkeep required.
Amazon commissions for the full year of 2017
While taking me around his various web projects, I got a sense that he couldn’t open up each new tab quickly enough. This twenty-something is unquestionably ahead of the pack when it comes to SEO experiments you haven’t even considered; automating as much of the successful ones as possible.
Primarily based in Mumbai, India, he told me how businesses in his local area were all following similar strategies and taking advantage of Google “loopholes” in a number of different niches.
Whatever happens after this interview goes live, he’s not hurting for exciting projects to work on.
That said, I did decline to share it.
An Upfront Admission You (Probably) Won’t Like
The initial version of this interview included Suumit’s site, niche, rankings and a deep-dive into some of the backlinks that are helping him rank.
I knew it would get the SEO world talking — perhaps more so than when I shared the story of 10 Beasts.
Yet, three weeks after he first reached out, I sent him an email with the subject line “A genuine concern”.
My fear was that while he was revealing information that was inspiring and insightful to those involved in SEO (and especially affiliate SEO), he was perhaps also providing enough ammo for trigger-happy Google employees to issue him with a manual penalty.
After all, a few months after I shared the story of 10 Beasts which went niche-viral, that’s exactly what they received.
(The owner had been talking about his site and tactics in the open for months on his personal site – and the penalty was revoked just 48 hours later – but I accept I likely had a part in bringing the site unwanted attention).
In the email I explained that we shouldn’t reveal the site because I don’t want to be responsible for any issues that may arise.
He genuinely didn’t seem to care, and still wanted to go ahead, but I would later repeat my recommendation to which he finally relented.
To be clear, I have no problem if Suumit wants to reveal the site elsewhere. I’m sure many bloggers would jump at the chance and the end result would undoubtedly be more interesting than my own version.
With that said, this is a case study without a website attached.
If you’re looking for a URL, you might want to leave this article right now. It isn’t here.
Suumit fully expects some people to find the site in question but at least it will be far fewer than if I were to link to it outright. If you do find it, please keep it to yourself.
He accepts that sharing his story may result in negative consequences but there are enough insights here that help him serve his mission of people looking at SEO in a different light (depending on their current perspective, of course).
Only after I knew he worked on a number of projects far more successful than this one was I willing to share his redacted interview. His background is pretty incredible for someone so young and I have a feeling he’s just getting started…
The Backlinks That Rank (Whitehats, Look Away Now)
One of the biggest criticisms I faced when I covered the story of 10 Beasts was that I didn’t dive into their link profile in more detail.
The owner, Luqman, had been so open about his tactics on his own site that I didn’t feel the need to repeat them.
To me the real story was that a young site with so few pages was making so much money. The reaction to that article showed I was far from alone in thinking that.
There isn’t a world of difference between Suumit’s site and Luqman’s 10 Beasts.
Both primarily make money from recommending products with an Amazon affiliate link.
Both have very basic designs with less than perfect content, and both have a domain age that makes you wonder why your own projects didn’t succeed so quickly.
Because I’m not revealing Suumit’s site I feel like we can be more open about his link building strategy, because it’s possibly a huge part of why this site – and similar sites I’ve seen – are ranking.
So what is his strategy that might get him in trouble? Redirecting expired domains that already have links.
Not so much building sites on them, but just doing straight redirects to the site he wishes to rank.
Thanks to this, Suumit technically has great links from sites like the LA Times, The Verge and Gizmodo.
The stats for one domain that now redirects to Suumit’s site
“Over the years I have realized that the value of links which are available for free or can be acquired publicly is dropping day by day.”
He continued, “Found a site with great authority? Chances are it will already no-follow outbound links or will in few months once the SEO community finds about it. Any new “method” which becomes public gets abused a lot in this industry. Scholarship link building is a good example of that.”
When I asked if he was involved in other strategies he said that his biggest problem with paid links or guest posts is that any of his competitors could replicate the same links.
With his own network of domains and sites he didn’t have that problem, and could (mostly) stay under the radar.
Though many people are afraid to utilise these tactics incase they get caught, they can work well, and Suumit’s site is a prime example of that.
After this interview we’ll get thoughts on the site from three well-known names in SEO so you don’t just have to trust what I think of it.
Let’s dive in…
First of all, a lot of people are going to ask…why are you willing to do this interview? What’s the benefit for you?
The reason I wanted to do this interview is because SEO is changing dramatically and getting immensely competitive.
Search engines like Google and Bing are investing a crazy amount of money and resources to make their search results better and there are very few good places on the internet where you learn the latest changes made in search algorithms.
I’ve been active on dozens of platforms to stay up to date with the latest SEO hacks and surprisingly everyone keeps talking about the same old things again and again.
For instance, most people haven’t moved on from talking about H1 tag optimization or they’re still scraping domains and setting up PBN’s in the traditional way.
I’m a big believer that knowledge which makes people’s lives better should be freely available. So, I hope this real-case study will help people out there to understand how SEO is evolving and how they can change their traditional SEO approach and do things differently to achieve better results.
Did you start the website yourself?
Yes! I started this website by myself.
How about the domain? Was that available from a registrar or did you get it through another process?
It was an expired domain that I found within a matter of minutes when I decided to set up a blog related to health. I just applied a few filters – such as only looking for domains which contain the word “health” – and they must not have any spammy links pointing to them.
Although this is the traditional way, I’ve recently started using a new approach for finding brandable domain names that have a good backlink profile.
I created a central database of approximately 1.7 million domains. These domains all have live backlinks from sites like Forbes, The Huffington Post and any authority site you can think of.
One can easily get a list like this using Ahrefs.
All you have to do is enter the URL of an authoritative website and download all of their outbound linking domains.
You can then apply further criteria such as only pulling back domains with a DR (Domain Rating) of 15-40, because it’s very rare that a domain with a higher DR will expire.
I’ve then built some technology which allows me to the check the domain name availability of around 7,000 domains per minute and I’m running a cron-job which keeps checking the entire database on a daily basis.
As soon as any domain is available, I get an email notification.
Suumit’s custom domain name notifications
I know a lot of people are doing the same thing, but they’re doing it manually.
In my case, I don’t need to touch anything for months and I keep getting good domains arriving directly to my inbox.
Checking the availability status of thousands of domains per minute is a big deal since there are no bulk domain name checker API’s available. The cost of running this infrastructure is less than $50/m.
Note from Glen: We’ll dive into Suumit’s link building strategy more later on. For now, I wanted to learn more about the project.
The site is ranking very well for a lot of high-ticket “best product” terms in the health space. What was your inspiration to get involved in this particular niche?
I’ve been working with plenty of Series A+ funded startups and few big corporates and helping them to grow their userbase and revenue with SEO.
As you know, SEO changes at the speed of light and I don’t want to take the risk of trying new methodologies on clients websites directly before I test them on my own projects so I usually have multiple test projects on the side.
Coming back to your question of “Why this niche?”, I seriously don’t know much about health — I’m 27 and weigh 54KGs (119 lbs).
The reason I chose this niche is because one of my close friends recently sold his blog for half a million dollars targeting the exact same keywords. I knew all of the revenue and competitor information for the space so it was “proven” and that’s why I went ahead.
My main objective behind these side-projects is simply this: Try new things and make money at the same time.
Do you ever spend time updating the content? Are you worried about your pages not being as good as they could be?
Note: In private I had picked out some articles and their typos and grammatical errors to go with this question. For this interview I have rewritten some of Suumit’s answers (with his permission) as, understandably, English is not his first language.
“Content” is one of those words I hate the most. Not being able to generate quality content is my biggest failure to date.
Being from India, it’s rare to find a local writer who can write articles like a native English speaker. I tried working with freelancers from the United States but my experience wasn’t that great.
I haven’t updated the content on money-making articles for months.
All I’m doing is pushing 3-4 new articles per month of 800-900 words each and trying to make sure I won’t fall under the “thin content” website-type.
Just to clarify, the existing articles on the website are written by around five freelancers from different places like Upwork and local Indian resources.
Of course I’m worried about the pages not being so good in terms of content but I’m not sure I’ll spend more time fixing them. Instead, I’ll build tech products and grow the sites like crazy.
For instance, three years back I launched an app called Grappr which is a community of Indian users where they get paid for doing microtasks such as app downloads or app reviews.
Within a year that app grew to 1M+ active users with 4.5 Avg rating from over twenty thousand users.
I view myself as a “growth hacker” more than an SEO.
I assume there are some pages making more money than others? Which rankings are the most valuable for you?
On Amazon Associate-style websites there are mainly three types of pages:
Product Category Search – For example, “Best Standing Desk to Buy in 2018 – A Complete Buying Guide”
Product Brand / Model Search – For example, “Varidesk ProDesk 60 Electric Reviews”
– For example, “How to Reduce Repetitive Strain Injury With a Standing Desk.”
Usually the competition for product and category related terms is pretty high in the health niche but they can give you crazy returns if you rank in the top positions.
Product brand / model related keywords can be ranked easily but their revenue potential is lower.
For me, only the first and second type of pages are making money, though the third type of pages can attract a lot of legitimate backlinks.
With Amazon lowering commissions and thus your earnings, have you tried to work with companies directly to increase your revenue?
Amazon lowering commissions is indeed a real pain and a constant threat to almost everyone who is in this game.
I tried working with manufacturers directly and while the commission structures was better, the revenue was much lower than with Amazon.
Clicks being sent from Suumit’s site to Amazon on a weekly basis
Most phsyical health product creators don’t have affiliate sales tracking in place so it becomes difficult to work with them. I also believe people trust Amazon more, especially when the transaction size is pretty significant.
On top of that, Amazon gives me a commission for anything & everything the user purchases – so it’s a win-win situation for me.
As per last years report, only 30% of users I sent to Amazon purchased the products I recommended; the rest purchased something else. Yet I still got paid for all of those transactions.
Add in real transparency, trusted tracking, on-time payment, and the considerable brand Amazon have built, I believe it makes sense to stick with them for now.
You recently redesigned the site and I have to say it looks much better. What was your inspiration for that? To increase conversions / look better for a manual review / something else?
I’ve recently started working around conversion optimization and unlike content, I actually enjoy the design part.
According to Full Story – a tool which gives a real-time data of how users are interacting with the website – my users’ experience on a mobile device wasn’t that great.
The New Year is approaching and according to last years data, revenue could go as high as 3X within next 60 days.
Improving health is the most common New Years resolution for people so I redesigned the website for a better user experience and conversion rate.
Is this your most successful affiliate site or do you have others in the wings as well?
The definition of success is different for every individual and talking regarding monetary value this website is adding, this is a successful project. I own a bunch of other websites and apps too (although I have a lot of failed projects as well).
Out of all of these properties, a few are affiliate sites and a few are tech products.
Apart from these, I’ve been working with tech startups who are operating at a scale and looking to expand further online.
What would you say to those going through this model already and not seeing success, or those thinking of starting?
Talking specifically about Amazon Associate sites, most of the sites I see are just creating list articles and repeatedly explaining the same product features. They aren’t adding any valuable information.
For example, actual video reviews of a product isn’t present on more than 95% of them.
Since the last few Google updates I’ve realized that ranking Amazon niche sites (or any kind of website in general) is becoming more time-consuming. With sites that aren’t successful I can usually see it’s because their content isn’t up to par or they need a better link profile.
People who are just thinking of starting an Amazon affiliate site (or any sort of website) should spend more time on creating valuable content and then build links in a smart way.
Never rely on free guest posts or directory submissions or blog comments. Those are old techniques and don’t work as well anymore.
If you really want to dominate search then try building what I referred to in the interview as “exclusive” links. Links that competitors can’t pick up as easily because you’re building them through your own properties.

Suumit had not asked for any of his projects to be linked to but he did mention a rank tracker he’s working on, Rankz, that he’s hoping to grow. After all he’s shared here, it’s the least I can support him with so I’ll personally be trying it out in the next few weeks.
Thanks for your time, Suumit!
Three SEO Friends Share Their Thoughts
As I mentioned in the introduction, it was my idea to not share Suumit’s site with the world.
I know a possibly penalty wouldn’t be too detrimental to him but it’s not something I want to increase the likelihood of.
With that said, I did ask Suumit if we could ask some outside experts for their views on the site so people didn’t just have to trust us.
In the order I received a response, here are some other takes.
First up is Nick Eubanks from Traffic Think Tank.
Tumblr media
The site is a pretty amazing anomaly if you ask me. The design is as basic as it gets, the content is thin – has no tone or legitimacy, and the internal links are partial match at best.
Yet the site has made strategic use of some old school link building techniques that definitely still work and managed to rack up over 2,300 RD’s in Ahrefs and rank for over 28k keywords, with nearly 1,800 ranking on the first page of Google. Most of these terms are commercial intent terms with several thousand searches per month each.
Crazier still is the domain was registered just over 2 years ago in February of 2016 and is already scoring in the upper echelon of all sites for Domain Rating. I’m a bit uneasy with how well this site is doing, all things considered.
Thanks, Nick!
Next up we have Tommy Griffith, a former SEO for Airbnb from ClickMinded.
Tumblr media
It looks like there are some very strong rankings here for a number of valuable affiliate terms. You can see the clear moment in time where there was an investment in PBNs – and for now, it looks like it’s working.
Most of the links are on pages with a very small number of external links, and it looks like there is good contextual relevancy on about half the domains. The other half are from sites that don’t look like they’re related to the topic – but again, yes, this looks like it’s working.
Finally, Britney Muller of Moz fame kindly contributed her time.
Tumblr media
They’ve actually done a great job of optimizing page titles and on-page content. The use of enticing titles like ‘Best of’ and ‘DO NOT BUY before reading this’ helps increase CTRs. The blog posts are also really clean and without sidebars. The Titles, URLs, and headings are well optimized for Featured Snippets (to which they have several high volume FSs).
Their straightforward IA is commendable; this isn’t a cluttered website with a dozen navigation items. It’s a basic free theme with the only dropdown (and footer) linking to their primary money pages. This helps to optimize their crawl budget and funnel any homepage traffic to their top affiliate posts. The homepage is clean and simply showcases the most recent blog posts.
The one thing that stood out was the appearance of seeded community blog comments with frequently asked questions about the page topic. I would never recommend creating fake accounts to seed questions and manufacture engagement, just include those FAQs in their own section on the page. However, it would be interesting to test this to see if Google deems comment activity/content more or less valuable.
Moz found the most backlinks for this site (just sayin!) and the profile is fascinating. It becomes immediately clear that a savvy link builder helped acquire a few things to increase the link authority being passed to this site.
I still don’t know how people are going to react to an affiliate case study without an actual site attached but I like to think this feedback gives you a much better idea of what’s working for them.
If I can add my own commentary, I have to admit that the site looked pretty terrible before the recent redesign. With the spelling and grammatical mistakes throughout the content – they are not small or random occurrences – I would be pretty disappointed to land on it via a search.
Especially when the products Suumit is ranking for are not cheap.
He has made some clear efforts to improve things here and he posts quite a lot of content that isn’t written just to make money so it’s definitely becoming a better resource.
That said, I don’t think any of these were needed to please Google, who have been rewarding the site regardless.
Redirecting Expired Domains: The Main Link Building Tactic In Question
As with most sites, Suumit’s affiliate site has links from a number of different sources.
The ones with the most authority undoubtedly come from purchasing expired domains that already have links and redirecting them.
The domain he’s ranking was also an expired domain which had previously picked up links.
Detailed Pro hopefully shows how focused on link building I am so while I have redirected expired domains to other sites before I’ve never really pushed the effectiveness of it.
I would usually build a site on the domain and then link out from it (like a PBN).
If you’re been in SEO for a while then you’ll know that both of these strategies are far from new.
If you were to ask about its effectiveness on Blackhat World, you’ll probably get a response that suggests looking at all of the other threads on the topic, like so:
If you go to a course sharing site like Udemy, you’ll find it’s very popular over there as well:
In other words, it has been around for a while, and many people know about it.
Suumit, as far as I know, is one of the first people who has basically said, “This is what I do, and here’s the kind of results I’m getting.”
However, he’s certainly not alone.
According to my Ahrefs usage stats I’ve checked the backlink profile of thousands of sites in the past year alone and I’m constantly finding high-trafficked sites that employ this tactic.
A recent site relying on it heavily isn’t doing too badly:
This site has some incredible links thanks to other domains that now redirect to them.
To stick with the theme of the post so you don’t just have to believe me alone, I asked Ahrefs CMO Tim Soulo to verify that graph and their links.
He has.
For those who know about the tactic already I really hope you got something out of this interview.
For those who are completely new to the concept, you might have a few questions in mind, so I thought I would answer them FAQ-style.
“So all I have to do is find dropped domains and redirect them?”
That is what appears to be working incredibly well for a lot of sites, yes.
But in that same vein, you will find many people who say they tried to do the same thing and saw little to no results from their efforts.
Depending on your source of domain names and the niche you’re in, this can be an expensive exercise.
As with anything when it comes to search, there are no guarantees, but I should add the warning that I wouldn’t ‘test’ this on a site that you care about.
Set-up a new brand and don’t risk your own or client websites in the process.
“Surely Google can just block this tactic from working?”
Perhaps, but there are a lot of genuine use cases for it.
Sometimes sites change names and want to redirect all of their ‘juice’ to a new brand. That can include letting domains expire before they are picked up and used.
Sometimes companies acquire other businesses and merge multiple sites into one.
Not every example of one domain redirecting to another is someone trying to game search results in their favour.
“OK, then maybe a red flag if a lot of domains redirect somewhere else?”
It’s certainly possible Google have something like this in play but if it caused an obvious and immediate penalty it would be a bit too easy to hurt your competitors.
“What if I build a site on an expired domain that I try to rank?”
I’ve heard of a lot of success stories relating to this so it can definitely work.
People buy domains that have dropped all of the time and build legitimate resources on them. I wasn’t the first person to own Detailed.com – so it isn’t exactly “shady” either.
Suumit’s site is built on an expired domain that already had links to it. There’s no way to say for certain that they helped, but logic would suggest they likely did.
Especially when he was dominating search results within a few months.
“Didn’t Google say this shouldn’t work? Won’t they?
If recent trends in SEO are anything to go by, we’ll see a Google denouncement of this entire concept shortly ;).
It is entirely possible that the expired domains aren’t helping the site in any way, even though it’s a large part of their strategy (notice how Tommy mentioned PBNs rather than redirected domains).
If you are going to try it yourself, you could invest a lot of time and effort with nothing to show for it.
I’ve seen the subdomain vs sub-folder debate where people are convinced subfolders are better and show the rankings improvement but neglect to state they changed their URL structure, internal links and so on.
Back in 2003, ‘GoogleGuy’ said,
you can get that domain into Google; you just won’t get credit for any pre-existing links.
While 15 years is a long time in SEO, this should mean that the tactic doesn’t work at all.
A few years after that, Google’s Matt Cutts said,
There are some domain transfers ( e.g. genuine purchases of companies) where it can make perfect sense for links to transfer. But at the same time it wouldn’t make sense to transfer the links from an expired or effectively expired domain, for example. Google (and probably all search engines) tries to handle links appropriately for domain transfers.
On a webmaster hangout in December of 2016, Google’s John Mueller said,
Sometimes we recognise that a new site is completely unrelated to an old site. So for example if you go out and buy an old domain name, it might have been a church website for 10 years. If we recognise your new website is really not the same as it was, then we need to understand that difference and say that, these links, they apply to the old website but they don’t apply to the new one.
That certainly doesn’t seem to be as definitive as the statement from 2003 and seems to tie more into the relevance of the new site.
Either way Google will win any argument on this topic because they can always say (and often do) some variation of “We just don’t count those links.”
I can’t find more recent updates than that but I will update this article if I find them. Danny Sullivan had a nice guide to this back in 2009.
“Where can I find expired domains?
Just to reiterate, keep in mind this tactic goes against Google’s guidelines depending on how you implement it so be very cautious about using it on sites you care about.
If you’ve decided you want to give it a try, you have a few options available.
First of all, you could follow Suumit’s method and find domains with the links you want first, and then build a tool to constantly monitor their availability.
I recently built just that as an experiment and tried it out on around 30,000 domains:
Im my first crawl I found two domains out of 30,000 that were available and worth picking up.
So even if a lot of people are aware of this model, there are great domains up for grabs.
To get the 30,000 domains took less than 30 minutes – including filtering – but you will need an Ahrefs, Moz, SEMRush or similar account.
Creating the tool in the first place is more costly, but shouldn’t set you back more than $1,000.
If you have a large budget it’s probably better to go via the Ahrefs API – or similar platform API’s – because the constant downloading of CSV’s and filtering the results is a bit laborious (especially when you get into tracking millions of domains).
Another option is to go to auction sites like GoDaddy Auctions and watch what is available.
You could of course simply Google “purchase expired domains” or “purchased dropped domains” and find a lot of resources that way.
I have personally implemented another system which cost around $750 to set-up and $500/m ongoing and is finding at least two register-worthy domains per day. If there is enough interest in this article, I’ll happily share that strategy in a future blog post.
(I don’t redirect these domains, but they are useful for other purposes. I’ll purchase a new batch this week solely for the purpose of a redirect experiment as well).
If I’ve missed anything, please do let me know in the comments. Suumit might join in as well if you have any questions for him.
Thank you for reading!

Social Content Strategy
There's a lot to be stated for how a kick-ass material method can sustain your social media strategy. If done right, it could additionally support your rankings. Not just does creating web content regularly imply updating your website (which online search engine like), however great web content normally brings in back web links as well as social signals (such as Tweets and Suches as) that inform search engines that your content is preferred with real people. how do you generate content that's preferred with social media individuals and helps you place for on targeted search phrases relevant to your items and also companies? To puts it simply, exactly how do you generate material that doesn't just place in and of itself however allows your product pages rank?
Well, when it concerns developing kick-ass web content that's going to reverberate with your target audience, that depends on you - you understand your industry and also clients better compared to I. Yet in this blog post, I'll check out exactly how you could tweak that content to ensure that it really allows your product/services pages rate on targeted terms.
Categorize Your Web content Strategy
The first step in developing a web content method that can sustain SEO is to categorize your content appropriately. In short, you'll most likely be utilizing a blog site to drive your material method - whether it's with tutorial article or merely releasing some incredible viral infographic. As well as all this web content will come under some sort of group on your blog site. You could currently have a blog and you may not. As well as if you already have one, you possibly currently have groups, and there are probably messages that fall under greater than one group. This is alright. But just how much do your classifications mirror the product/service verticals you're competing in? Basically, for whatever classifications you might or could not already have, you should categories on your blog site that mirror your products/services. If you're a digital company, you might develop groups for:
SEO
PPC
Social Media
Display Advertising
and Web Design
These groups, in turn, would then be the house of the material that's driving your web content method. You should be generating material not just around what your consumers are interested in, however likewise around just what your company does.
Optimize Your Content Categories
Context is everything...
Once you have your groups planned out, it's time to enhance the classification pages on your blog. In short, because these classifications are mosting likely to be driving your web content strategy, they'll be the most frequently upgraded, and chances are these category web pages are going to (1) accrue PageRank, (2) place on related terms, and (3) accumulate significance and also linkjuice that you can after that rearrange in other places. For starters, each group page is going to contain bunches of posts that pertain to a particular set of search phrases. You can additionally optimize these pages better to optimize that significance relevance. As well as you could do this by taking the keywords that you're targeting within your effect product/service pages, and adapting them to your blog category. For instance, a digital firm may be targeting 'Search Engine Optimization firm' and also 'Search Engine Optimization agency' with the web page that describes its SEO solutions. Well, for the Search Engine Optimization group on its blog site, it must target 'SEO pointers' and 'SEO blog'. In various other words, it ought to target the key words that somebody curious about the product/service could make use of to search for relevant content. So exactly how do you target those search phrases as soon as you have them? Well, basic: by including them into the Web page Title, Meta Descriptions, and introductory blurb on top of the group page. Essentially, in addition to enhancing the meta details on the web page, you'll additionally intend to add an initial blurb (at least 300 characters/twice the size of your meta description) to the top of the classification web page. This will certainly (1) discuss exactly what the web content is, (2) give this dynamic web page some fixed web content of its very own that (3) stated the search phrases you're targeting.
Interlink Your Category Pages
So currently that you've optimized your category web pages, you can interlink them with your product/service web pages. This is very important since these web pages (as discussed over) will certainly be building up PageRanks, relevance, as well as linkjuice as you proceed to generate material because category, and also you can siphon several of that off into your product/service pages. And you can do it in a really clear, non-spammy way. Remember your intro blurb? Well this is the excellent area to do it. Just craft a blurb something along these lines:
Welcome to the [target keyword # 1] area of our blog. Below's where you'll find all sort of ideas and also tricks connecting to [target key words # 2] As well as if you're really passionate concerning [target keyword # 1], after that you may consider inspecting out our [targeted support text link] companies page.
Target content
So, below, you have actually handled to (1) enhance the web page's importance for two relevant and also targeted key phrases, and (2) insert a non-spammy targeted support message web link back to your effect product/service web page - as well as, therefore, siphoned some of the keyword pertinent linkjuice of your group web page over to the effect product/service page.
Optimize Your Content for Key phrase Density
Now, if you actually want to obtain the most from your content approach, you'll likewise need to optimize the web content itself for targeted key phrases. This is essential for 2 factors. First, you'll intend to demonstrate to browse engines that your website proceeds to be upgraded with content that's not just preferred, however keyword thick - sustaining the total importance of your domain. Secondly, you'll wish to take full advantage of the key phrase relevance of the classifications that a post comes under to ensure that those category web pages can pass as much juice as feasible over to their corollary product/service web page. So just how do you maximize a message for a targeted keyword phrase without making that post read like an item of SEO copy? Well, there are a couple of methods. Begin creating your material for people. They are, nevertheless, who you're attempting to reach get from you or collaborate with you. As soon as your post is done, choose the 1-2 product/service associated keywords that you think are most pertinent to your web content. Once you've done that, there are a number of area you could connect them in:
URLs -these could be effortlessly optimized without disrupting the tone/voice of the content
Header Tags - using H2s as well as H3s are a fantastic means to break up your content as well as make it more usable/scanable, it so happens that a search phrase within a header tag brings a bit more weight than if it was in the typical text, so you can glide them in here without tinkering the tone/voice of the content
Bullet Lists -on their own, bullet lists appear like fragmented web content, however when they appear within an article bordered by message, the key words within the bullet checklists could bring some added weight
If your blog is powered by WordPress, I would certainly recommend using the WordPress Search Engine Optimization by Yoast plugin. It adds a module below your HTML editor that will certainly stroll you via optimizing that article for any search phrase you inform it to.

Interlink Your Author Bios
Once your articles have been maximized, there's one more point you can do to pass some extra juice from keyword-relevant pages to corollary product/service web pages, which's merely to interlink them. It looks spammy as well as intrusive to slide targeted keyword anchor message web links right into the message. You can, nevertheless, add an author biography to each article, and since a blog post is (presumably) written by a participant of your team that's a professional in that vertical/category, it type of makes good sense to link their bio back to an appropriate product/service web page. As an example, if you're a digital agency, your social media sites posts are most likely being composed by participants of your social media sites group. So it makes ideal sense to state in their bio that they belong to your 'social media sites group' as well as connect those words back to your social media company web page. The result is that (1) you have a keyword enhanced post that (2) url to an effect product/service web page in a method that (3) only enhances the credibility of the writer. You could in fact see an example of this in my bio below. Since I generally cover social media topics on this blog, it's not a surprise that the part of the Acquisio software that intrigues me the is the Facebook advertisement component, so I have actually cited that as my much-loved component of the software as well as linked it to Acquisio's Facebook ad tracking product page.
Getting Social with It
Thanks, Big Willie, yet we stated obtaining SOCIAL with it.
Of program, just because you develop it, that doesn't imply that they (the customers) will certainly come. If your material isn't really actually popular with customers (e.g. gets Suches as, Tweeted, and also talked about), it's going have that a lot less linkjuice and also authority you could siphon off to the rest of your website. So once you have actually designed your kick-ass content, you're actually going to have to go available and advertise, and also that's going to take some community monitoring skills, such as properly seeding it via your Facebook web page. Nevertheless, a web content method is primarily a social one. This is why your content should be composed mainly for users (as well as not browse engines): so that it involves and becomes prominent with them. It's simply that if you're able to do that well, you can take the steps detailed over to take advantage of that engagement as well as popularity to support your SEO efforts.
