This time I'm thinking of Homestuck. But Layton-fied. Not as destructive to it's world, since spurb wouldn't exist yet anyway. But the style, logic, and humor are there. Like a lovely mix of both?? Maybe more Azran Legacy type-beat?? Since they all straight up die for a second...

Professor Layton Au - Pandora's Call

((I have made an intro post for this au before but it's been a while and things have changed so here we go))

The Pandora's Call Au follows the idea of pairing the games (+ the movie and crossover) and merging them together, combining the stories and mysteries while changing some other story details to fill the gaps left behind.

The namesake of this Au (and the first combination to be created), Pandora's Call is the combination of Pandora's Box and Spectre's Call.

It follows the Professor and his new assistant Emmy as they investigate the Elysian box. They follow its trail to the ghost town Folsense where they must uncover the secrets behind the spectres — two large and formless entities that fight in the streets — the Spirit — a figure commanding the animals of the town into harassing visitors — and the Golden Kingdom — a castle rumoured to be buried beneath Folsense originating from the Azran.

The Black Ravens are instead the Raven's Guild located in Dropstone and while they do participate in the market, they're more so 'adventurers' that oversee most of the travel to the ghost town.

Arianna isn't sick, Tony doesn't dress up as Seamus and Evan Barde doesn't die, they live in Dropstone together peacefully.

Instead of the manatee like creature she is in canon, Loosha is instead a Quetzalcoatlus that flew out of the Golden Kingdom when she was small enough for Luke to hold.

And Luke Triton is instead Lord Luke Herzen, the grandson of Duke Anton Herzen, raised by his grandfather in Folsense with his only contact with the world outside Folsense being when he uses the animals of Folsense to scare away outsiders.

The other game pairings in this Au are as follows:

Eternal Diva + Curious Village — Eternal Village

St Mystere exists on the island of Ambrosia, the looming tower is mixed with Descole's castle and the Whistler and Reinhold families are combined. Flora and Melina are sisters and Melina's consciousness is put into a robot after she dies.

Miracle Mask + PLvsAA — Mysterious Mask

Labyrinthia is its own world accessible through the Akbadain ruins which is where Randall ended up when he fell, the magic is real (but bound to that one area) and the one behind the Masked Gentleman is the Storyteller (Descole isn't in this one due to Dahlia related injuries).

Lost Future + Azran Legacy — Lost Legacy

Mostly follows the plot of Azran Legacy, but Bill Hawks has disappeared in a time machine related incident and someone claiming to be Luke from the future joins them on their journey. Targent makes it to each location first so they have to use a rudimentary time machine that can only go back a few days to let them collect the eggs first. Also Clive is Luke's half brother, though he has to wear a purple wig to cover his blonde hair.

I do have some extra details for what happens outside the main 'games' as well, though this post is getting long so I'll put them under the cut for anyone who's interested (sorry it's also pretty long):

Clark and Brenda have been dead for around 10 years by the time Pandora's Call starts (though Brenda isn't quite gone), though Clark's death was confirmed while Brenda went missing on her own accord and was presumed dead

Losing Clark and then Brenda in short succession then only a few years later losing Claire left Hershel in a very bad place, he withdrew more so than before and became more reckless in the cases he'd pursue

After being beaten up by the government, Lucille and Roland were worried about him only having them and his mentor Dr Schrader to support him so Lucille called the Ledore household and asked if they would be willing to check in on Hershel, which they agreed and Henry went to go check on him

It was rocky at first, but Henry reaching out really helped Hershel and the two became friends again, Angela joining them too, though with Monte d'Or they couldn't be there all the time

During Hershel's 'reckless era' Henry would often be the one to come over and make sure he's eating enough and looking after his injuries (both from the government incident and injuries he gets while being reckless)

He has two major injuries around this time, one from before the Government beat down and one that ended his 'reckless era' and made him realise he couldn't keep doing this

The first happened the day Claire died. A young boy ran into the burning building next door to the lab to look for his parents and Hershel ran after him, burning his hands in the process of saving the kid

The second was when he was in a particularly bad place mentally, when he decided to look into the case of Claire's death a second time. He got further with his investigation, but then he was jumped and beat up worse than the first time, severely damaging one of his legs in the process and needing it to be amputated from the knee down (When it heals enough he gets a prosthetic, but he also carries a foldable cane and crutches in case he needs them)

On a brighter note, his reckless era did bring about one good change and that was running into his old 'friend' Paul who had also gotten involved in some shady dealings. After escaping the people Hershel was investigating/Paul was getting even with, they ended up reconnecting (things were a bit more complicated than that but this post is already too long-)

This Au's Hershel is a lot tidier than his canon counterpart, he also tends to collect odd souvenirs from his travels (traits he's picked up from Clark and Brenda, *gestures to 'guy who's nothing but the people he's lost' post*)

He's also a bit quicker to go against law enforcement when they're interfering with his investigations (nothing extreme of course, but he's definitely hidden evidence he hasn't had a chance to observe properly before an inspector could take it away)

And that's all I'll share for now. I have a lot planned for this Au and eventually I want to write a few fics for it too (a multichapter fic for each 'game' and a few oneshots too, though it is a very ambitious project) so we'll see what happens.

Terribly sorry to disturb you for what may be a very simple oversight on my part, but I'm still rather new to your Professor Layton content (which is ✨️spectacular✨️ by the way), and I've come to notice the mentions you make to an Azran time crystal that powers the time machine that offed Claire. Is this crystal a canonical object, or is this an original creation of your own design?

I did mention an Azran crystal in a Targent!Claire AU I recently wrote (The Phoenix). In that fic, Claire notes that the time machine was powered by an Azran energy source— that being a purple crystal. 

I don’t think the term ‘Azran crystal’ is ever mentioned in Azran Legacy, but I based it off Aurora’s pendant with the purple jewel and the purple ‘prism’ (as it’s called by Aurora) controlling the Azran sanctuary’s mechanisms and the golems. 

The prism powers the sanctuary, it looks very crystal-like… and to quote puzzle 150 from AL: ‘If you truly wish for them to be reborn, use the hourglass to turn back time’. This might just be a figure of speech when Aurora brings her fallen friends back to life, but still! 

Who’s to say another ‘Azran crystal’ couldn’t power the time machine? And that Targent were the shady company who funded Bill Hawks?

I know not everything has to be connected between the original games and the prequel Azran saga… Part of me likes how the original three games can stand on their own… but this is just an AU idea, anyway!

I also headcanon that the Relic Stones are Azran crystals (or some variant of them) as well. Maybe the same ice wall that kept Aurora frozen is linked to the machines used to keep Layton and Luke frozen, IDK. Which would make Desmond and Emmy’s lack of an appearance in the anime even more confusing— Did they just not care that Layton was investigating the Azran again?)— but OH WELL.

SO technically. me calling it a claire lives au is. probably wrong. because claire does actually very much die for a solid like twelve years, like, shes very much dead, hershel mourns her and moves on and all that. the problem really is that targent is, by this point in the timeline (UF), not doing especially good, and they would very much like a conveniently famous archaeologist to be a face of their organization. unfortunately layton has turned them down already. so they need a hostage. and conveniently, targent was the first group to recover the pieces of the azran sanctuary from the lake

so claire gets revived. shes been twelve years dead so this means the revival isnt an EASY process and doesnt go WELL, but she is, at the very least, alive. which catapults hershel and randall into a variety of bisexual crises mostly revolving around “um uhh claire pretty.” claire has bigger things to focus on (how do i get a legal identity back? how do i cope with my grief? how do i deal with the fact that my ex(???) boyfriend is now in an illegal homosexual relationship with this other weirdly-handsome weirdly-kind man???)

so its this lovely tangled mess of character development and trauma and they all love each other very much and are far far too repressed to tell each other… for a while… :3 they are going to be so amazingly stupid about this

Ok so I wanted to draw but I don't have the nerves to do so. Instead, I wanna write something about that silly AU of mine and it appears it has no name. Why not Professors of the Caribbean ? Or maybe you can choose if you have something better ^w^

Well first let's see about the roles : Let's call it "The Curse of the Azran gold" XD

Hershel Layton : a young preceptor working for the governor of Port Royal, to teach his daughter Claire Foley 👀 Rescued from a shipwreck by her when they both were children, he grew up at Port Royal with his father and mother, not knowing he was indeed adopted ( that will still be like in the games, I love the twist it will bring X3 ). Becomes a pirate unfortunately, to save his dear Claire from the pirates that came and kidnapped her. Not a real fan of the one that brought him into being an outlaw though X3

Desmond Sycamore : probably no Descole, but the name of the ship could be the Death Call, dunno, what do ya think ? Anyway, a pirate, alone, strange-mannered, having a lot of hate for a particular pirate and swearing revenge. He convinced Hershel to steal a ship to save his damsel, is an excellent swordsman but doesn't like to play fair and is a master of wicked plans XD

Claire Foley : daughter of the governor, fascinated by pirates, wants to be as free and independent as them sometimes. She likes Hershel A LOT and is not that impressed as first by the pirate captain. Well, before knowing he's literally a living dead X3 tbh Desmond is more a damsel in distress than her !

Leon Bronev : here he is, the bad guy ! Commited a mutiny against his captain and son after having some disagreement about the Azran gold. He has no beating heart now, cruel but great at being a treacherous man and a liar X3

Dimitri Allen : the commodore ! Because he needs no grey wig XD and because he is in love with Claire X3 a good man, having trouble with pirates and trying to get rid of them as much as possible. He will potentially know a very sad end but hey, like a hero though X'3

Luke Triton : not gonna lie, it's hard to include him in there but maybe a little sailor on the Interceptor asleep when Hershel and Desmond steal her X3 so he has to go on a little voyage with them, will probably talk to the parrot XD like Layton a lot but not Desmond X3

Raymond : ..... let's hope I have a better fate for him that what crosses my mind right now X'3

Macaw and Robin : Pintel and Ragetti, no doubt ! XD

Swift : the Second-in-Command because he is freaking cool *^*

For now, this is how I would see the main plot X3 most characters are here buuuuuuuut maybe my brains works faster than my typing skills ( and will to write something more consequent ) so I will probably right other things but not tonight X'3

Okay before I go to sleep I wanted to do some stuff with the toontown au!!

Most of it will be bits of randomly ideas or relationships I have for it.

Who am I kidding in this is sort of an overview I guess

So it’s lovers to enemies to act acquaintances to friends to loversish for layclaire (sorry)

It takes place in a london where gangs rule the roost and toons are there to entertain or help with dodgy dealings

Claire is just living her “normal” life as a dr before this all happens

Until Clive dove her kind off apprentice/ward gets framed for murder (bill hawks) and comes to her to help uncover who did it

This leads to Claire and her toon friend Rickie the Rooster to realise oh their gonna have to go back to the underground again cause this is totally the work of The Devil In The Tophat

So to clarify future Hershel is TDITTH in this along with his gang the Crimson Roses they rule the underground

So Claire, Clive, Rickie and Claire’s close friend Desmond have to sneak around to find clues and gather information on who could have framed Clive and why

In come Claire’s old friends the Sapphire songbirds who have been searching on this for years

This is where Clive finds out Dr Foley is not what she seems and is actually the head of a huge underground organisation

In this group is Celeste her younger sister, Dimitri fellow scientist who has a debt to pay

Marie one of the eldest in the group along with Drake

Also turns out the DITTH is looking for not only Clive but her too

And that’s how it starts

Some extra stuff

Clive technically is Claire’s godson because his mother was quite close to her before she died and left him in her care

Hersh is extremely protective over his daughter’s and son, he will not hesitate to go apeshit if you hurt them

Claire is the more fight now think later one out of the two whilst hersh is much more calculating and orderly

Luke is the oracle figure in this au again in a sort of neutral way along with his toon friends Toppy the mouse, Enna the rabbit and Lumi the otter!

This also includes Aurora who’s his best friend and is able to know where the next fight will break out

Clark and Brenda are on opposite sides (I’ll leave you to figure out why and which groups they decided to be in :3)

DP's apprentice!Flora: In Dropstone, instead of kidnapping her, he’s like "quit your dad. be my kid instead" and considering that she has known the Professor for only a few days most of which he has spent neglecting her she says sure.

Phantom!Claire: detailed on my main here. some details have changed since I first conceptualized it but the rough sketch remains the same (Claire & Clive work together, Dimitri works with Layton, etc)

MG!Angela: Randall thought the ruins were ideal date material and Angela wanted to prevent him from getting into too much trouble and dying like her brother did. It doesn't end well.

Targent!Rachel: Rachel and Leon join Targent together. Rachel's codename/bird is the cowbird, which is a nest parasite (aka a bird that lays their egg in another bird's nest) to be raised by another species.

engineer Layton AU: Layton and Randall didn't go on the expedition as teens; Randall goes into archeology and for a while Layton is undecided but ends up really liking physics and making things (just like the puzzles!). he ends up falling in with the Dimitri-Claire-Paul friend group. des is quietly panicking in the background over his brother's archeologist bff but is hopeful that the difference in career will make things...better

some more details:

the love "triangle" drama with Claire is toned down a lot more because they’re all friends. no don paolo villain awakening. (and just. a lot less misogyny. they're chill about it.)

the Randall-Clark friendship is just. Clark getting out the metaphorical spray bottle for when Randall is about to do something impulsive

Des is keeping an eye out for Randall because a) Randall is Not Subtle about his desire to study the Azran and b) he's Hershel's best friend c) Targent almost certainly already keeps an eye on Randall because of item A and Des does not want Hershel to be threatened by them

layton is still a puzzle solving professor he's just an engineer instead of an archeologist. the rest of him hasn't really changed

I want to say that Claire gets to live because well. Yeah. but I don't think the career change would affect that too much :( maybe I'll figure it out but for now assume that goes the same :(((

Layton definitely picks up on the fact that everyone in St. Mystere are robots faster than in canon

I think Randall and Layton would go to Misthallery together for the events of LS. Luke has three dads now.

Randall and Clark are coworkers in the lab, so Emmy is still Layton's assistant because Targent has trouble getting her into the archeology lab

(Randall has very limited interest in being a teacher. He'd only become a professor if it got him more funding for his expeditions)

Des ends up reaching out to Randall post-Eternal Diva because the ruins are near Stansbury

yeah Monte d'Or doesn't exist

Henry leaves the Ascot family after Randall leaves for uni and gets a better less exploitative job

Angela is also in the uni group. I'm between law and literature for her major. Getting out allows both her and Randall the perspective to say that the whole thing about their parents trying to get them to marry was Weird and they should split up to figure out if they'll still want each other without the pressures of Stansbury
