like, not Immediately, but like.....

for the most part, AU luz doesn't miss the human world much, she considers the isles her home and barely remembers the human realm. to her, humanity is usually an annoying disability and occasionally cause for guilty crises over being a colonizer. she doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about the life that she could have lived if she hadn't wandered into the isles as a babby

and then like. meeting canon camila would change all that really really fast.

not even because of the human part or even the losing-her-spanish part, it's just like.... like.

luz obviously knows how awful belos is and can now recognize that her entire upbringing was drowned in lies and manipulation and belos's own loneliness, she Gets that belos wanted things from her more than he really wanted to raise a child

however she does not know Quite How Devastating the emotional neglect has been for her. because she has no point of comparison. luz doesn't spend her time thinking about everything that she needed and never got from a parent, bc 1) she and hunter have been instinctively taking care of themselves For Forever, and 2) she relies on hunter for a lot of the reassurance and stability and protection that would normally come from a parent. so she doesn't know that she's missing anything

until there's. camila.

and suddenly luz is having to grapple with this really warm kind genuine person loving her unconditionally -- or at least loving one version of her unconditionally. and with that comes an overpowering feeling of "oh, this is the life i was supposed to have, the life i have now is wrong." and then there's not Just the insane grief over not having lived that life, but Also the feeling of fundamental brokenness, like. i can't be a luz who deserves to be loved like this because belos made me different and i won't ever untangle myself from his formative influences, so. i can't be anyone's daughter and i can't stand to stay here long enough to see her disappointment when she realizes i don't deserve to be here

empress luz meeting her own timeline's camila is something i desperately want to write and it's also something that has less immediate emotional baggage. because princess AU timeline's camila was robbed of the chance to raise her daughter just like luz was robbed of the chance to be raised by her parents. the two of them are basically strangers to each other and very carefully learning each other for the first time. that's Very Different from meeting a camila who has a very long history and great relationship with her luz.

Fun Fact About My Dad

He is the reason why cross-tree builds were removed in World of Warcraft back in 2008. He had a hunter called Doog. Doog was a character he built, and mained as a hunter. obviously.

Another fun fact about my dad: he likes to break things to learn how they work. at this point, it was 2007, and unknown to wee little babby demi, my dad was starting shit and doing very well at not getting hit.

He was using this hunter with a level 10 pet as a tank- which, yknow, shouldnt be possible. he had so many players submitting complaints, saying he broke their ret-pali builds, that he HAD to be cheating- he wasnt, btw, he just exploited the HELL out of the cross tree build mechanic. but enough complaints were submitted that blizzard locked his account, investigated everything he'd done, and had to say "nothing is WRONG with what youve done but you did break the class." and then cleared out EVERYTHING he'd done. including his macros.

This Did Not Deter Him From Doing The Same Exact Thing In 2009. Because in 2008, after he'd spent a year on Doog and had everything reset, the Burning Crusade update arrived with a new character class: the Death Knight.

Death knights, he explained, were low aggro, low damage, and low heal. They were not an overly strong class. And again, my dad looked at the skill trees, looked at the possibilities, and decided that he didnt need an ultimate skill when he could multiclass his skill tree enough to take over when any party member (dps, tank, healer, etc) tried to cause a party wipe. he was able to out-heal, out-damage, and out-aggro any party member no matter their class.

and again, he started getting complaints made against him. he started getting private messages just cussing him out because HOW DARE HE make their healer/paladin/whatever IRRELEVANT with a damn DEATH KNIGHT?!

and again, blizzard mods and developers locked his account and went over EVERYTHING. He gave them access to his personal computer. they tried to decide, again, if he was using any hacks, cheats, or mods. And again, he wasn't. He was told "You've done nothing WRONG but this is unhinged as hell and why would you play it like this?!" They reset the character- again, including macros- and a month or two before the Cataclysm update, a patch was released that removed cross-tree builds in the game.

My dad, understandably, went "fuck this" and stopped playing for a LONG time, until my brother wanted to play with him and my mom a couple years ago. and he still didnt get near as invested as he was when i was a kid.

Today in things I used to be MADLY in love with. Supernatural was a series I jumped into during its debut in 2005. Like, at best, episode 3. Was 16 years old and looking for another genre show to get into. SPN just happened to be on at the 'right' time. I watched the first three seasons, thought season 2 was a decent series closer, and desperately wanted the show to die by season 3 because, honestly?

It had nothing more to say as a story about monster hunters, brothers, and abusive family dynamics. It went straight to hell by S4, and Castiel (awful ass character), and the whole Angel/Demons plot can go suck rocks.

(And by that point, it was becoming hard to ignore how antiblack and racist the series was on principle alone.) But it kept trucking straight into my 30s. I appreciate the concepts that introduced me to, that it only increased my love of muscle cars, and that I spent a stupid amount of time downloading and listening to Classic Rock like it was my personality. Dean/Cassie can never be topped, Jo and Mama Harvelle deserved better, and the continuity with Babby Sam was [chef's kiss]. But otherwise, I generally loathe this show, and that it survived while stuff like Journeyman got canceled. Y'all already know how I feel about the Sequel Trilogy. Read them articles.

Cold winds slowly turned to warm as Safi’Jiiva flew back towards the New World, trying to retrace its steps back to the region surrounding its former den. It felt nice to stretch their new wings, gently soaring on the drafts of winds that helped carry it back. This was certainly a lot different than its first tiring journey to the Secluded Valley, and this time the elder appreciated each new scent and sight on their path to the mainland.

They rumbled a happy purr as they saw the landmass come into view, excited to explore the only slightly familiar territories of the New World. Safi maintained their height in the air as they crossed the edge of the land, watching ocean blues turn into earthen greens and browns while they soared above. Eventually they found a comfortable place to land, gently lowering themselves down to the ground and taking in the new surroundings. Safi looked around with an eager demeanor, ready to learn more about this unexplored area. (( Open to anyone who happens to be in the New World. Region doesn’t matter. ))
