TWST Dark AU Context

So, context for my screaming.

The TWST Dark AU is a fic I'm currently outlining and will most likely be posting. I say most likely bc I do not have a good track record.

Largely non-spoilered, but I'll put a cut in case you want to read the fic completely blind!

The TWST Dark AU centers around Pandora Lawrence, a 16 year old artist that wakes up in the coffins of Night Raven College a year earlier than canon with no personal memories. Knowing that NRC is an all-boys school, she decides to not correct people when they assume she's a guy and generally try to avoid being considered a girl without explicitly denying it.

(Pandora is cis fem and bi, if anyone was wondering, hence being uncomfortable with actually calling herself a guy.)

As time goes on, she's made aware that something is very off about the school. The current Heartslabyul housewarden is Cater Diamond, and Pandora's positive that Cater has never been confirmed as a housewarden. Ace's brother is a third year, and she's pretty sure he's supposed to be out of school by now? and Malleus, Lilia, and Silver just straight up are not enrolled at the school.

but the most damning thing is that no one has ever heard of Royal Sword Academy.

Night Raven College is the only Arcane Academy on the Isle of Sages. The only other schools are a few elementary and middle schools, as well as a high school-college academy, which is prestigious but entirely non-magical.

Pandora initially plans on avoiding getting involved in the plot, but when she meets a Jamil Viper who seems so much happier than in canon, she decides that she cannot let him destroy his life by trying to kill Kalim, and thus begins her journey, which starts with helping a stressed Housewarden with his workload and ends with her discovering the truth about the Great Seven and unraveling a plot that she herself has been entangled in since the very beginning.

If you did the newest archon quest and go to the fortune teller in sumeru, and ask for the love prospect. She tells you how so many people have fallen for the traveller and it kinda drives her mental. I'm kinda sick of mihoyo catering to the traveller harem agenda. Because side relationships have so much potential. Mihoyo has such a habit of erasing playable characters from other characters stories. Such as venti in xiaos. They keep detouring and making it all about traveller. It's just a bit of an ick to me, especially considering I'm somebody who believes that they are Canon in the sense that they know eachother, and they r just dancing around right now figuring things out.

I'm really hoping their meeting does them justice. And mihoyo doesn't yet again make it all about traveller. Like the scene xiao dances In the field of flowers could super easily be made all about aether and xiao with venti on the side.

goddddd yeah i chose that option bc i had seen the answer for the health option on twit n was like "why not i might be able to use it for the albether canonverse fic i swear i'll finish one day" and then she. said that. and i was like "okay are we done. like can we be done now. im over this. just stop."

FR so tired of characters getting erased from each other's stories and suddenly the traveler is the most important person to them like stop!!! this is some stranger that 90% of them have only met a few times for Not Very Long! how the hell can they suddenly be more important than their literal savior, their most trusted right hand they've been working with for years, their family, or the estranged friends trying their hardest to help the person they love? this isnt even just about xiao, it's about literally everyone the traveler comes across--kokomi? ayaka? ei? these characters who should be strong individuals with trusted friends and family who are leading rebellions and an entire nation respectively? suddenly they're all over the traveler and the traveler is the most important person and makes them feel so much better yada yada i got so tired during kokomi's quest bc like..........why. i get that traveler is the person she doesn't have to be the Rebellion Leader in front of bc they dont rely on her but like....that could've easily been a more compelling storyline if she was able to learn to let her walls down around someone like gorou or smthn and he was able to see her as more than just their unflappable leader. not even as a ship, just as two people relying on each other during hardship

ugh this turned into a rant but yeah like. i would much prefer to see playable charas as individuals with compelling lives and relationships outside the traveler. its such a disservice to them to make their lives and stories revolve around the traveler and im sure that's not what the traveler wants either

i'll get to horse divorce first bc i have more written for this than the ronance one so far but basically i saw a tweet ages ago (i can't remember the account for the life of me bc i just saw it in passing) about steve not being able to pronounce hors-d'oeuvres and saying 'horse divorce' instead which ??? i really disagreed with because that boy probably grew up listening to his rich mother yelling at caterers about hors-d'ouevres and probably had to attend events and shit just to save face so he definitely would know how to pronounce it imo. but eddie on the other hand... the boy has never seen or heard of hors-d'oeuvres in his life

so it kinda blossomed into this idea of a oneshot of established steddie and steve's parents show their faces for the first time in ages because they have some event to attend and they want steve to go with them so they can allude people to believe they're a solid, loving family unit just to save face and give off a good impression to all those rich fancy assholes that will be there. so steve (rightfully) gets annoyed abt it and eddie (bless him) offers to go with him 'as friends' even tho it's way out of his comfort zone to be around all those snobby rich people that would typically look down on him but he wants to be there for his boyfriend for moral support so he can suck it up for one night for steve's sake

so anyway they get to this function and eddie's looking at this fancy menu and cant pronounce half the shit that's on there and steve's just so enamoured with him because he's clearly making so much effort and he just says 'fuck it' and kisses him in front of everyone and ofc his parents are horrified

So instead he ducks a hand underneath the table and realises just how anxious Eddie is when he rests his hand on his thigh and feels his leg bouncing, clearly jittery and nervous. His fingers dig into Eddie's thigh gently, comfortingly, and within ten seconds he feels the tense muscles under his hand relax, sees Eddie's tongue go back into his mouth from where it's poking out between his lips, sees the crease between his brows start to flatten and ease out.

aaaaand for the 90s ronance fic, i literally have only written two sentences for it so i don't really have a snippet to share for this but the basic premise is running with maya's idea of a stobin spin-off where they move to nyc and just go to loads of clubs and have fun and then they run into nancy in a queer club with a couple of her emerson friends and it's like that one spider-man meme where nancy, robin and steve are all pointing at each other bc gay

but i'm planning to turn this into a multichap if i ever get round to finishing it and it's v ronance centric and explores a lot of lgbt history in the nineties and has grungy robin being a bit freer and more accepting of herself and nancy having really grown into herself outside of her comphet relationships and it's just been super exciting to plan out (and hopefully will be just as exciting to write!)

Breaking pattern and going w nerine for this one - absolutely not at all, until they are. I think it’s a matter of them building up obvious flaws that distract from the real ones that they would actually care about someone seeing, eg, if you're pointing out the fact that they act like an asshole all the time, you're not seeing where that behaviour is actually stemming from, which is semi-deliberate

B - What inspired you to create them?

Think I've mentioned this before but these characters and their story exist literally bc of me lying in bed one night and going "hm, thought experiment, if I was going to make a story catered entirely to my own tastes, what would that look like", and then I got attached and had to commit lol. It's good

D - Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

Both njoki and nerine have remained pretty true to their initial design passes with only minor changes really, I was pretty much happy with them on the first or second try. The secondary characters are the ones that get a lot more passes on their designs, because I can't picture them quite as clearly in my head

H - What trait do you admire most?

Hmm. I think if I had to pick a character who I'd want to be most like, trait-wise, it'd probably be daz or anjali. They're both very emotionally mature and kind people who have the drive and knowhow to be able to handle problems pretty effectively for both themselves and others, particularly daz is very practical which I think is admirable because I'm not that way inclined lol

Alisa Whiterose is a first-year student at Night Raven College and a member of Octavinelle Dorm. One of Azul's assistant ( alongside Jade and Floyd ), she doesn't hestitate to put on an act just to saw people suffered.

APPEARANCE: Alisa is a young girl with mid-back length silver-ish gray hair that slowly faded to pink and round ruby pink eyes. She usually put her hair into side ponytail with a white ribbon and only tied up her hair when in sport uniform or put into waterfall braid in Dorm uniform. Very flexible and fast, she often appeared and disappeared quickly and rarely ever stand still for a long time in one place. Her body can be described as an "ideal one" for many girls, hence why lots of people got jealous of her.

In her mermaid form, like Jade and Floyd, her entire body is a slightly deep pink color but it slowly faded into white around her chest area. She have sharper nails, her ears got replaced with gills and have appendages on her arms (like Jade and Floyd). Unlike the twins, she have shorter and smaller tail, fluorescent and shorter gills & appendages (don't worry, I'll draw her mermaid form... soon... maybe...)

In her Dorm uniform, she wears a black fedora with a grey bow around it and a purple sea shell on the bow. PERSONALITY: A girl with good communication skills, a fashionista and a gourmet, she got admired and jealous by many people due to her appearance and cheerful attitude. She can talk with almost anyone easily and won't afraid to raise her opinion at others. Although she's bad at guessing people's ages, she can still call them with respect (if they're older than her). Alisa also have a very good fashion senses and eyes when taking pictures, some of her styles even become the latest trends on MagiCam for more than a month. She knows where and when to pull the right strings while acting innocently. Can manipulate anyone easily with her unique magic, though she mostly relied on her charms and only use her magic when necessary. Often have dark thoughts about others but never said it outside, to her, anyone that interested in the contract is a new "toy". Alisa also loves to lure students into signing a contract with Azul and "accidentally" mess them up so they can't do(?) the payment. While she's his assistant (along with Jade and Floyd), her ways of "working" is distinctly different from the twins. No one can really tell what her next move is, even Azul himself sometimes got surprised too.

Alisa also shown to despite her sister - Alice but of course, she never show it outside and always act cheerfully around her, even call her with nickname "Ari-chan" and act friendly with her. The reason why she hates her is because she think it's her fault that her mother doesn't love her anymore. Because she has stayed with her mother ever since she's still a little human child, her mother is the person who she cherished the most (until now) for taking care of her and show her the human world. That's also the reason why she strike to be the best in beauty in order to let her mother notice her again. Because of this, she decided to learn and did research on how to dress up and do make-up all by herself without anyone's guide. Alisa did mentioned once that it took her 10 years to have a very good taste in fashion like now, but she said “My mother did notice how much I changed, but, I don't understand why she still give that girl more attention!?”

This is the reason why she got sorted into Pomefiore at first and not Octavinelle. Alisa did felt very glad that she got into the most beautiful and elegant Dorm in Night Raven College, which encourage her to become even better at "being beautiful". Vil did comment that she was one of the first years that reach his standard in beauty, though of course, she still have to improve more. Although Alisa did enjoyed her time at Pomefiore, she said that she wanted to "make another step" and decided to sign a contract with Azul. That's the reason why she is now in Octavinelle. Although she can still talk with Vil normally without any problems afterwards, deep inside, she did felt guilty for leaving like that, but there's no point in crying over split milk, so she have no other choice but to keep stepping forward from now on.

Aside from her cruel side, Alisa have a soft spot for taking pictures and doing yoga. Her heart is always at ease whenever she look at all the pictures she took. While she often post selfies and fashion pictures on MagiCam, her gallery actually have lots of pictures related to scenery, food or even people. (She have at least 10 pics of Azul in her phone) She also never use photoshop or editing app, because she said that “it'll ruin the beauty of the pic!”. If you want to improve your skills at taking pictures, you could always ask the gray haired girl for advice, she'll wholeheartedly guide you. Alisa is also a morning person because she often woke up early to do yoga (and dressing up too of course), hence why her body is very flexible. You could see this clearly at PE classes, even other students are also impressed with how fast she run. While she loves playing all sorts of card games, she will only accept other's challenge when they have something to bet for, to her, betting will make the game become way more interesting and thrilling, especially if anyone dared to bet their life or things that precious to them.

UNIQUE MAGIC: "Sugar-coated Words" ( 嘘の行進 "Parade of Lies" ) Can bend the truth permanently with any lies she wants ( even joke or nonsensical words, if she want to ). However, she can't lie to the same people with the same lie twice, and if they remembered the truth then the lie that she told them will become useless.

BACKSTORY ( just a part of it ):

She couldn't remember much what happened before she got "adopted" by Mrs.Whiterose.

The only thing she remembered was the warm, peaceful blue sea. She felt so free at that time, as if she could go anywhere she wants. She also remembered how beautiful the coral reefs look, how the dim sunlight shone gently through the water surface and how warm it was on her skin. It was a very blissful scenery, too blissful that she couldn't forget it no matter what. But, it also made her remembered the painful times too.

It's strange. Whenever she remembered that scenery, her chest unconsciously got tighten. Maybe it's because of how painful it was. But, other than that, she felt like she forgot something, no, more like someone important to her. Someone that become her friend when she was still a little fish. Someone that stand up and protect her from other mermaid's bully because she can't grow into a mermaid herself (which is a very rare case in the Sea of Coral). Someone that stand out from the other, just like her.

At first, she thought that it was a curse. A curse that can never be get rid of. She cried and cried, but because she's under the sea, no one will notice how much tear she shed because she's just a mere fish. No one will bother watching a normal fish "crying" or even "talking". In the sea, the merman have the most authority to literally do anything after all. As long as she's still a fish, no one will stand up to her when she got bullied. Because fishes are very pathetic and weak, a single slap could make them died so easily. That's why she always hate the merman, because of them she have to suffer for oh so many times. She couldn't do nothing about it except swimming away in fear, with bruised fin and scales on her small, fragile body.

Until that person appeared.

That person, unlike other merfolks, doesn't laugh at or bully her. She still remember their first encounter. It was quite interesting, to say at least. When she was hiding away in fear because of those merman again, she encountered a small cave so she quickly hide there in convenience. What she didn't expected is that another person also there. Even though she doesn't remember their appearance anymore, she still remembered clearly of how kind their words were when they saw her bruised fin. They were the first person to care for her and talk to her with such a soft, worrying and somewhat curious voice. Although they can't see it, but at that moment, she cried, her tiny droplet of tears immediately became one with the deep blue sea.

Who it is? Who is that person that always made her chest tighten whenever she remember it? Why can't she remember them now? Why? She don't want to forgot them. Especially when they're the reason why she can turn into a mermaid like now. She curse herself for not remembering one of the most important person that changed her life, but there's nothing she can do but keep rewinding the same scenery on her mind like a broken tape and hope that by any chance, she can remember their face and, if her own mind let her, then maybe their name too.

TRIVIA:

+ She's based of a pink florescent Pterophyllum scalare ( commonly known as a Angelfish ). Hence why she have florescent tail and gills in her mermaid form.

+ While her profile stated that her homeland is Rose Kingdom, her backstory actually revealed that it's not her true origin. ( The same case as Alice )

+ While she dislikes saving money, she's actually very good at it.

+ She always tied her hair with a white ribbon, some of her fan also noticed that she decorate her hair with that ribbon in every single outfit in her selfies.

+ In Alisa's initial SSR's personal story (part 3), she did said that the ribbon was "something she hates but can't let go of it from her side"

+ She hates it if someone photobombed her pictures. And guess why she hates it? Poor Alice got tons of attention on MagiCam because she accidentally photobombed one of Alisa's selfies (Luckily she didn't lash out at her sister)

so. charade killed kothe, and saber and the droid (i... forget his name) during the whole Showdown over the missiles, and after things calmed down, she tracked down chance and killed him in his hospital bed. she Almost felt bad about that one - he wasn't cut out for SIS work. he never should have been involved in the first place. but he only lived the first time so she could maintain kothe's faith in the strength of her programming and her defector cover story, so. sorry, kid. but not that sorry.

but kothe used the codeword, and continued to do so. chance used the codeword. saber used the codeword. the only person left to find from that SIS team (and the most egregious user of the codeword) is hunter - and she'll kill him, too. she's just biding her time.

she did have a Barely Civil chat with ex-keeper (minister of intelligence, now) about the entire affair, and is still - not pissed, exactly. somewhere to the left of anger, something drenched in horror & trauma but still lashing out in a form most identifiable as rage. she's still upset. but he won't report that she freed herself from her conditioning, and... if he's right, then she was punished for her loyalty at the sith's behest. and that's an entire other issue she'll have to deal with bc of her pre-concieved notions & loyalty to sith, but keeper managed to smooth things over with her enough to fall back into the mental state of putting the empire first (and hunting hunter). that said, there's a caveat now: if anyone tries that on her again - in intelligence or otherwise - she will kill them, no questions asked, no second chances. if anyone tries anything Vaguely Similar At All, or uses her and then betrays her for her willingness to be used for the empire's sake, she will kill them. she has catered her entire existence to the empire & she doesn't know who she is without it, and she will never let anyone - part of the empire or not - take advantage of her like that again.

and Then she let herself fall apart, after everything, after she had control back and the kothe threat was dealt with and she'd written all her reports. she hasn't had a genuine breakdown since her first year at the academy when she was still basically a child, and she hopes she never has to let herself have one again

& she's gone back to being cold with vector - the desperation with which she reached out to the nearest & only person she thought wouldn't manipulate her vulnerability during the whole brainwashing thing was - to her - just weakness. just part of the SIS using her. she doesn't need that weakness anymore, and so she's going to just try and Shed It, but things don't work like that!! she's an emotional dumbass but i can't just let my conditioned & regimented & "bad coping 101 and also i hate interpersonal relationships because i'll always put the mission first" spy character just Let herself develop connections to other people in a short timeframe or normal, healthy way - no, it needs to take forever and be So Needlessly Complicated. we're in slow burn hell now, babey
