I’d love to see what a PPU Josie would look like

I actually did pitch an idea for PPU!Josie way, way back!

but basically: my idea for the PPU!Krupp siblings is that they should all swap personalities. PPU!Ben already essentially has Jasper's personality, so I decided to give Ben's personality to Josie and Josie's personality to Jasper

PPU!Josephine is colder, less open, more formal. With a hairstyle closer to Bernice's. PPU!Jasper is a lot more relaxed and confident, but this is the PPU so his confidence is actually more cocky and self-centered.

Reluctantly reinstated: an overview ( non spoiler edition)

Since I've been posting about reluctantly reinstated more frequently I think I should probably write out an overview of what this AU actually is.

Krupp is a Retired Superhero. More Vigilante than actual superhero. He Willingly retired after both realizing he needed a job to provide for him and that being a superhero wasn't rewarding/ fulfilling anymore.

Compared to his cannon selves he's still grumpy but less of an Ass. He's fully human and all his cannon relatives are related to him.

This version of Krupp had a better life growing up as John is still around and ended up divorcing Bernice. Ben went to live with him and was allowed to still be a Kid.

his father started up a carpentry business that Jasper took over.

Krupp still uses his powers in the privacy of his own home but there's not much he Needs them for. He does still fly/ float with the curtains closed. He'll never give that up. He still has his basic set of powers in some capacity. ( From cannon but also just him being Rusty)

For the most part he's largely grown to feel like he Doesn't need to use them as much even if he had the chance. He's grown to like being in the background, just be Ben.

In the prologue and chapter 4 it's demonstrated he can use his powers With Clothes just fine. He adopts the captain underpants persona later on. Snapping and water have no actual effect on him. Granted he won't be happy if you splash him with water.

there's a reason the fic is called Reluctantly reinstated after all.

So, if you didn’t know, I’m a huge TETOCU (The Epic Tales Of Captain Underpants) fan, and one thing I did, was make Mr. Krupp a sister!

Meet Candi Krupp! She’s extremely overprotective of Mr. Krupp and will murder anyone who even thinks anything bad about her “baby brother”. Here’s her lore!

Bernice thought she was crazy because of her overprotectiveness for Ben (This was after the talent show incident) and sent her to a mental hospital. She ended up getting violent tendencies and found a gun and shot the doctors, but one doctor stabbed her in the eye in the process (why one eye is white) she escaped and went back home, and never told anyone besides Ben about it.

Ms. Reed: George and Harold’s new creative writing teacher who encourages creativity on account she’s seen so many stories at this point, she NEEDS something original. And she’s got two favorite students, to Melvin’s disappointment.

Carmen Martinez (oc): A nerdy girl from another school that uses her hyperactivity to her advantage to beat Melvin at the Biggest Invention Convention, but maybe she just wants Melvin’s attention. <3 ;)

Mr. E: Only the schools coolest janitor!

Cindy Sneedly: Melvin’s mother who is looking for a way out of her marriage, at the cost of her old child’s well-being.

Bernice Krupp: Krupp’s awful excuse for a mother. (she’ll be a lot like Bojack Horseman’s mother, hint hint)

Gaylord Sneedly: A scientist through and through. Oddly enough, he is missing the evolutionary drive that tells him, your offspring ought to come first!

Marvin Sneedly: Melvin’s much older brother. He has the personality of Melvinborg but I’m staying away with timey wimey stuff here and he seems more like Melvin’s bad influence older brother so this is the choice I made.

Mirvena Sneedly: Melvin’s mentioned older sister who took to the more creative side of life rather than science.

Martha Hamburg: A philosophy and psychology student who Cap (post separation) meets on line in the middle of his midlife existencial crisis, and becomes his friend, albiet she’s in the middle of a crisis herself, meaning there both drowning in existencial dread together, but can’t seem to pull each other out.

CEO? Idk about that-

Benjamin:

I like to think that Benny boi prefers smooth jazz; it’s nice and relaxing and helps to lower his stress during or after a hard school day.

Jasper:

Not really sure what he would be into, probably different types of music.

Liz:

Liz is like both of her brothers. She also enjoys smooth jazz from time to time but likes other types of music too, such as country.

Phoebe and Teddy:

Disney movie songs. They love singing along to those when they aren’t around anybody.

Kipper:

Heavy metal, rock n roll. The kind of stuff you’d headbang to.

Bernice:

Mama Krupp doesn’t usually listen to music, but when she does, she listens to old music on cassette tapes or cds she plays on an old radio. She sometimes plays these tunes for her cattle to keep them calm and quiet.

Um. I think I’d go with Benny defending his siblings.

It would be nice to see him stand up against a potential threat to his siblings. And while him fighting against his mom would be nice, it would be hard to see him go through with it. Especially if there isn’t a chance that he’ll win.

So thanks to a certain change in the musical, Beetlejuice ALSO has an abusive mom (and I faved the link of the bootlegged audio where he talks about it). And she ALSO shows up… but considering who she turns out to be...

*listens to the audio clips* SWEET JESUS. 😳 This lady almost makes Bernice look like a saint! Almost.

And boy, is this version a far cry from how BJ’s Mom is in the cartoon series! The worst she ever did was tell him to take a bath and clean his room!

And speaking of similarities between BJ and a certain principal, we find out in the cartoon that Beetlejuice has a younger brother named Donny, who is the polar opposite of him.

Sounds kinda like Dav’s description of Benny’s little brother Jasper, doesn’t it?

thinking about the harold counterpart of this george scene in sticky notes (ie. where they have to actually confront that krupp as a person and not just this nebulous embodiment of the worst the school system has to offer which he is mechanically in the books, but ssh) but also realizing that krupp would just Not Talk About This To A Child, no matter how angry or out-of-touch he is with what’s appropriate to talk to a child about in the first place. so here’s an old analysis/ramble that’s been rattling around my head for a good... year now? because frankly i like the concept and i don’t want it to languish in my discord messages

the connection derived from their missing fathers would honestly be extremely surface level in this au. sure, they lost their dads, but its in two different contexts: one left, the other passed away. harold's dad wasn't the best person and left-- not even bothering to visit post-divorce, and krupp's dad is... a decent person (given what limited information he has and also the rose-tinted glasses that comes with only really knowing your dad for 10 years as a kid). 

the much more interesting parallel/bit is if you have them have a moment based on the parental figures that did them. wrong? for lack of better phrasing. once again, harold's dad is just out of his life, but his lack of a presence left ripple effects. bernice, on the other hand, is still very much there with more active effects

Half brothers au or I take the Krupp brother dynamic and make it sad.

So I was thinking about teddy and Kippers relationship as half brothers and thought about how it would apply to Ben and Jasper.

ben is still dealing with John's death when Bernice remarries and has Jasper. They live in the same place - Bernice was not letting go of the farm that easily.

Ben feels betrayed and with Bernice Not Wanting to deal with John's death and all that he feels like he's the only one who remembers his dad ever existed.

he never sees his step dad as his dad in any capacity. Just that man who lives in his house and sleeps in his dad's bed. Despite efforts to bond it never really happens.

I suppose Ben sees or it can be argued that he sees jasper's existence as an effort to Do Over what Bernice had with John. A replacement. Or maybe this is early drafts of kippers relationship with teddy and jasper having another kid bleeding through.

Ben feels like a stranger in his own home. Jasper also tries to reach out and bond with his brother but Krupp just does not feel the initiative to really do so. He's not Mean to jasper but he doesn't really have anything to bond over with outside of general events that happened when they were growing up. Or mom or the farm. Jasper does eventually ask if it's something he did to make Ben mad. To which Krupp answers: it's nothing you did.

Jasper eventually stops trying to get anywhere with Ben ( he's also convinced his brother just Hates him in general)

When jasper remarries and has teddy, kipper vents to Krupp about it despite not really being a part of the family. Krupp gets it. He was in that position too. Considering this is after captain comes into his life, he tries again to Actually talk to Jasper's side of the family. Understandably jasper is Wary but tries to be friendly.

Where they go from here I don't know but I know that at most their relationship is mostly surface level. Does Krupp low key envy/ resent the fact that Jasper gets to keep both his parents while he feels like he lost them both?
