my gmmtv 2023 review

the interest - now why are we giving pretty privilege boy roles out of his range. AGAIN. be so serious rn. you know who would’ve slayed this role? apo. might watch though ngl lol

beauty newbie - i was like totally sold on it until win came on screen lol it is funny though that he is playing eunwoo’s role... you know... the pretty privilege boys together

our skyy 2 - it’s giving kpop boy group and that’s not a compliment. also there is no way these couples are popular? earthmix ohmnanon and firstkaoh sure i believe you but the rest? somebody call nugupromoter. no offense to joong.

midnight museum - finally real fucking television. finally gun being cast with a fellow ACTOR. i win. like im so excited ARE YOU DUMB!!!!

the jungle - this doesnt have subs PISSING ME OFF. they need to stop trying to sell us krist as a casanova be so serious rn. the male cast is mostly but not entirely bad... while the female cast is excellent i fear so yes i think i will watch this...

i think (at least from this trailers) gmmtv dramas are starting to look better visually which is crazy. but i wonder if they simply used this level of quality because it’s just like. trailers and not the real thing. i hope not because it looks a lot better like this

i dont know if im in the wrong here but i am growing progressively angrier and honestly resentful of bls. the way they are favored the way we get quantity over quality the way they overshadow everything the way they inevitably result in women being thrown to the back and neglected. im starting to think a mass extinction needs to happen. boycotting it isnt enough i need them gone.

you gotta give it to them, they DID stray away from what they usually do in terms of genres and stories...

gmmtv is actually fun when you ignore the bl and focus on the rest i always say this!

i feel like they are giving prim main girl treatment and that is very pleasing to me bc she is a STAR easily the best actress gmmtv has currently (from the younger side at least)

oh and i forgot. what a wasted opportunity not to have tor and kao together. en fin la hipotenusa.

omg!! the way bkpp and mileapo are my top two godtier chemistry couples!! i would LOVE to see mile and apo do an itsay-esque show, they would kill it!!

Yeeeessssss! ITSAY is the show that finally got me to start taking this genre seriously again and it quickly became a favorite, along with Billkin and PP! I actually really wanted KinnPorsche to go the ITSAY route for the series, but I still love what we've been given. Knowing that Mile and Apo are supposed to have another project together has really got me craving for something along the slowburn/heavy pining lines that's less comedic and a little more serious all around 😌

Lmao what an ask 🤣🤣🤣🤣 as a side note, the male lead character for Bridgerton (British, Netflix show) is an actual gay man and is portraying a character that falls in love with a woman. They have sex scenes that can basically be interpreted as softcore porn, so.

Mile and Apo are actors. They're meant to be portraying something they're not, and that includes being in love... so yes, they absolutely can fake that shit.

Also, Mile and Apo have never done fan service (at least nothing near the extent of most BL actors) so I really don't see why people can see them as a couple or as if there's something on. That all just seems like fandom and personal projections onto two professional actors just doing their jobs. You want an example of BL actors that aren't gay and have incredible chemistry? Simple, MaxTul.

Your ability to act and be good at it has nothing to do with your sexuality/sexual orientation 🤣.

also apo & mile are literally worlds away in terms of fanservice in comparison to other bl actors, but i though i'd mention it, because it might different to what anon has seen before.

and mmhm like i said, acting is a job at the end of the day.

not to say that people in movies and shows playing love interests, haven't then gone on to have a relationship before - before i get people in my inbox yelling about that.

but it's not that common at all, and, not even something we can really speculate on.

mmhmm, i'd also say offgun, kimcop, earthmix & bkpp are ones with great chemistry - and that has nothing to do with relationship status or sexuality. it's just talent and vibes.

omg nonnie im sooooo soooo terribly sorry for this hella late reply. i don't know if you'll even see this answer but i hope you'll take this gifset as my apology.

soooo... while my ALL-TIME favorite nadao series is Great Men Academy, today i'll like to take the time to talk about My Ambulance my second and current current favorite nadao series since i had been doing a rewatch of that one.

so what is my ambulance about? my ambulance tells the story of emergency room resident peng and his girlfriend of 15 year tantawan. tantawan has this ✨special magic power✨ that allows her to magically teleport peng to her whenever she calls for him. but one day, chalarn - the younger warm hearted intern at the hospital appears in tantawan's life and making her heart flutter and her magical powers with peng weakened...

!!!!spoilers ahead!!!!!!

why is it my current favorite? i have always harbored special affection for series where the endgame is the 2ml/ml disguised as the 2ml. my ambulance was promoted as a fantasy romcom series but for me the series wasn't just the journey of tantawan rediscovering love again.

my ambulance was the story of tantawan understanding what give and take in a relationship is, how to still love and care for someone deeply while understanding that love can't make up for incompatibility, how to come to terms with falling out of love and break up amicably, and that love and a relationship should not be taken for granted and it's similar to tantawan's magical power - not limitless and needs to be nurtured every day from the smallest things...

i was totally on the edge of my seat for that finale when tantawan had to make her pick between the two mls. it was a satisfying ending for me and the unexpected yet logical outcome i would expect from a nadao series.

i love sky wongravee from the first time i saw him in hormones 3 and project s: side by side but chalarn is totally his cutest role. i'm always iffy on noona romance if it's not done well but i was SOLD on the mai davika - sky wongravee tandem. chalarn had limited screentime because arguably this is more a story of the ending of peng and tantawan's 15 year relationship but my guy stole it every time he was on screen.

also my ambulance being my introduction to bkpp was TRAUMATIZING! (but it's also why i was so hyped for itsay at release)

so... yea... i have so much feelings and love for this terribly underrated series. nadao seems to have a thing for their loser 2ml-coded disguided mls (see: project s: shoot! i love you, great men academy, my ambulance)... it's strange that it's happened three times but that's a LOT and i LOVE them for that. rip nadao, i miss you forever friend.

If the West had Call Me By Your Name, the movie adaptation of the book by Andre Aciman that goes by the same name, Thailand debuted its own series, drawing unimaginably impossible parallels of a similar plot, but took it to a whole new Asian aesthetic level. Screenwritten and directed by Boss Naruebet Kuno, under the production house called Nadao Bangkok, this series features rumored partners in real life, Billkin Putthipong Assaratanakul and PP Krit Amnuaydechkorn, aka BKPP The Series.

It’s a bare minimum story. Teh and Oh-aew were best friends, until a boyhood line of reasoning, turned them into rivals. Years later as they're preparing for university admissions, both pursuing interests in the field of Communication Arts, the two meet in a Chinese language class. Their reunion awakens complicated and unstable feelings.

Shot in Old Town Phuket, that has its own history of Chinese influence, the story takes us through a maze concocted just around that. Our protagonists rivalling to top their Chinese lessons. History is so gracefully blended in a story through all symbols that the director uses, one with an unobservant eye might just end up missing on it.

The first scene opens with Teh singing a Chinese song, with flashbacks from his childhood, where he recalls losing his best friend over a role in a Chinese play, organized by their school for the Chinese New Year. The recurring Chinese proverbs, reiterated Chinese inclinations remain a proof of the screenwriter’s detailed research on the town they shot it in. The series carries as much Chinese heritage as Old Town Phuket does.

There is this constant play of Chinese symbolism, so, so beautifully embedded in taking the story forward. The protagonists realize their feelings for each other while taking Chinese lessons, especially at Teh’s house, the architecture, an acute Chinese home in Phuket, with a restaurant below, selling Hokkian Noodles. Shot at one of the prettiest beaches in Phuket, at wee hours nearing dawn, we observe Teh and Oh-Aew courting each other, in silence, fingers playing with Chinese Rose petals, painting each other’s nails in vermillion.

The choice of this particular flower, represents the androgynous nature of a China Rose, where a flower bears both the male and female reproductive organs in one; meaning, how one could love without basing their feelings on the sex of their partner, that love is for all. You could love anyone you liked, male, female or the other. This flower would also later be used to represent Oh discovering his sexuality, where he’s inclined toward femininity.

Their first kiss is underwater. The scene is shot in such a magnificent way, where they’re kissing deep inside water, but the water on the surface remains still. It could be inferred in so many different ways, where one is hiding their sexuality from the world and yet there is a hurricane circling under water. That even when you do wish to negate it, the ripples underwater shall bubble up to the surface, one fine day.

In a scene where there is a final outflow of powerful feelings, lying dormant in fear of facing them, in fear of rejection from the society, Teh and Oh-Aew give in to their attraction. They had loved each other for so, so long, behind closed doors, just as under the sea water, they could finally give away. There is however a catch in it again, the windows of Teh’s room are open. An impeccable mastery in direction later revealing how these open windows meant they were now perhaps at a threshold of acceptance, accepting their love, their sexuality, their own selves.

The above scene has to remain the most powerful of all. We see Oh bawling in confusion, because Teh had wanted to hold his breasts just as he would have if Oh were a girl, and when Teh finds nothing to grab on, reality comes crashing down and Teh leaves.

And then here we see Oh, clad in a red, lacy bra, wishing if may be he were a girl, Teh would want to kiss him, hold him, love him. This is such an intimate and bold exhibition of confused sexuality in the art of theatre, it leaves the audience astounded.

The final scene is a sight to behold. All their prayers at the Chinese monastery, all the meltdowns and confusion take a final leap to end at Teh saying the final, favorite words a fan would wish to hear,

“If I could be anything, can I be your boyfriend?” They finally do tell the sunset about each other.

Thai BL industry has been venturing into Asian entertainment markets with their business plots of boy love stories, the origins of which can be found in the Japanese yaoi, homoerotic love stories written by women. Even when a product of fantasy, these series have been a breakthrough at representing LGBTQ relationships, fitting themselves into the heteronormative society.
