Been thinking about Calico Jack and how his entire plot is to separate Ed and Stede, to lure Stede to Blind Man’s Cove, and get Ed out before the English get there. That his entire plan is predicated on the lie that he just happened to drift by and relies on manipulation and he spends the entire time he’s there passive aggressively insulting Stede and trying to get under his skin (interestingly he homes in on Stede’s insecurities very quickly implying a certain level of emotional intelligence). So it’s weird to me that when he says he and Ed had dalliances, which he says to a man who he assumes is uptight and knows is repressed, while alone and in a technically vulnerable position of literally having his pants down, that it’s taken at face value…

I just learned that these two are no coincidence! It's Anne Bonny on the left and Mary Read on the right. The two most famous female pirates!

From what we know, Anne Bonny joined her pirate lover Calico Jack at one point (who also appears in ofmd s1) and they even met the Revenge (but we don't know if it was Stede Bonnet on the boat or anything)!

Calico Jack, thinking that Mary Read was a man (since she passed like one to be on board of ships), took her with his crew, and that's where she met Anne Bonny. They immediately clicked and we (most likely) lovers too.

Their end is different from the series of course, but I'm so glad they were real! I'm just a bit behind in figuring that out 😅

Inside of me is a Calico Jack. Dying to burts out

He just wants to play with his mate, have fun, be loud. Not think about others' needs first. Not think about what others will think. Just screan from the top of his lungs " WHIPPIES!"

I know Calico Jack is a villain in Stede's story. Keeping Ed from him. Turning Ed into a loud maniac screaming "WHIP MY BALLS, JACK! WHIP MY BALLS!"

But to me he is also the guy Ed (or Blackie, as Calico Jack calls him) had found earlier in his life. The guy he could play with, be himself with, at least to some extend. I think he was the first person to make Ed feel like he could be himself. Hell, he could be gay with this guy. Yet still they both remained to be loud, fearsome pirates.

I can see why Ed is drawn back to that. With Stede he feels so much more vunerable. Because it is so much more real. With Calico Jack he can fall back into a dynamic that used to be great. It is super self-destructive ofcourse. For both of them. But it is easy, it is familliar. It is like an old coping mechanism that used to work for you, used to protect you when the world vo too much. But now it is no longer actually safe. Now it just feels that way, because healtier ways of dealing with your shit feel scary. You have to be vuberable, you have to reach out to others, tell them how you feel. And ofcoure, if they hear you, it feels amazing, but if they don't it will hurt so bad again.

It is so much easier to just scream "WHIP MY BALLS!" Than it is to say " I love you, and I need you. And I am scared you will leave me."

Damn I love this show so much!

Ed/Izzy, Any/Izzy — Ed gets jealous, possessive, that makes Izzy angry

Sometime post reunion, established Stede/Ed, Izzy is romantically or sexually with someone other than Ed.

Maybe Izzy/Ivan/Fang happened while Stede was gone and Izzy was emotionally vulnerable. Maybe Izzy/Lucius or Izzy/Roach. Maybe Jack turns up again, alive, and Stede throws a fit because he's banned from the ship, and Izzy offers to go "distract" him because Jack's a big ol Izzy simp. Maybe somehow Stede/Izzy is happening. Maybe it's a fling with some unnamed rando we don't care about.

In any case, Edward finds out about Izzy's relationship and goes all out possessive, jealous, you're mine see this x mark on your face, etc.

But Izzy doesn't react as expected, accepting anything from Edward and desperate for his attention. Instead, Izzy is mad as hell about it. Did Ed think about thier relationship or care to ask Izzy's opinion when he was pining over Stede? Has Ed looked twice at him in fucking years? What, so Edward's allowed to move on from the horrible unhealthy thing they became as Blackbeard but Izzy isnt allowed to try and find happiness of his own? Fuck off Ed.
