It was just such a joy to go out on the boat and read today. Even if I did get a wicked sunburn doing it.

Thank you so much to the lovely @emmasbookishcorner for recommending this stunning novel from Lisa See. I’ve only read one other book by this author, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan which I loved but this, her latest release has made me put all her other books on my wish list for sure. ⁣ ⁣ Set on the Korean island of Jeju this is the story of two girls, Mi-ja and Young-sook who become firm friends when they start diving for food with the village’s all female diving collective. Set across a few decades and highlighting Japanese colonialism, the Second World War, the Korean War and the present day, this is a multi-layered story that is beautifully rich in detail. ⁣ ⁣ This gorgeous story follows the friendship between the two girls and how their relationship is tested over the years but it’s also the story of the haenyeo as a group of women who endured extraordinary circumstances to feed their families. ⁣ ⁣ I loved this book from beginning to end. I always enjoy learning about a different culture and way of life and it was fascinating to learn about such a strong, brave group of women. It was so interesting how the traditional roles seemed to be reversed. That is, that the women went out seeking food and the men stayed at home looking after young children. ⁣ ⁣ This is an unforgettable story of two intriguing women and of a group of people whose livelihood has changed so much with the advent of technology and the change in expectations. It was a wonderful read and I already can’t wait to re-read it and experience its beauty all over again in the future. ⁣ ⁣ Five perfect stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookrecommendations #bookreview #theislandofseawomen #lisasee #fivestarreview #fivestarread #beautifulbooks #booksthatteachyousomething #favoriterereads #booksandwater https://www.instagram.com/p/CP_ZbDqrB3n/?utm_medium=tumblr

I feel like people enjoy being a pain sometimes. Maybe they get joy about making someone’s day annoying or terrible. . Full disclosure: I am not talking about any family members or friends. . i wish people would try to make a person’s day better rather than worse. Maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part. . The Sound of Drowning by @katherine_fleet. This book broke my heart. That is all I am going to say. I will leave the synopsis below. . Quote: “I know it because I see how strong and amazing you are. And even if you get too tired to keep trying, I won’t let you go under.” . Synopsis: . A heartbreaking love triangle, for readers who can't stand love triangles." – Kirkus reviews “A moody and moving, richly scenic romance.” – Kelly deVos, author of Fat Girl on a Plane “An emotional riptide of a read! I’m still searching for my next breath...and my next tissue.” – Darcy Woods, author of Summer of Supernovas . Meredith Hall has a secret. Every night she takes the ferry to meet Ben, her best friend and first love. Though their relationship must remain a secret, they’ve been given a second chance, and Mer's determined to make it work. She lost Ben once before and discovered the awful reality: she doesn't know how to be happy without him... . Until Wyatt washes ashore—a brash new guy with a Texas twang and a personality bigger than his home state. He makes her feel reckless, excited, and alive in ways that cut through her perpetual gloom. The deeper they delve into each other’s pasts, the more Wyatt’s charms become impossible to ignore. . But a storm is brewing in the Outer Banks. When it hits, Mer finds her heart tearing in half and her carefully constructed reality slipping back into the surf. As she discovers that even the most deeply buried secrets have a way of surfacing, she’ll have to learn that nothing is forever—especially second chances. . #thesoundofdrowning @dark #maybookstagram19 #bookstagram #bookchallenge #booksandnature #booksandwater #emotionalreads #kathleenfleet #bookphoto #reading #currentlyreading #arc #tbr #booknerd #bookstabaddies — view on Instagram http://bit.ly/2vOUx5i

Deliverance or Rumors of Death for Avon?
Oh no! Uhhhm …Rumours again. I really really like him in Deliverance, he’s so different with Meegat, gentle. But, no. It has to be Rumours. Nine times out of ten I’ll choose heartbreak anyway.

booksandwater answered your question:I’ll never understand why there aren’t more...
They used to show more of the Tardis in the old show, but it wasn’t as pretty as it is now. They even showed Romana II’s bedroom, the one Four eventually ejected. I’d love to see more bedrooms…
You mean you’d love to see the Doctor’s bedroom? With the Doctor and Clara in it?

booksandwater reblogged your post: booksandwater reblogged your photoset: What do you...
I am thinking about this:I’m not terribly well read. My wife forces books into my hands and insists I read them, which...
Ah yeah, I see what you mean about the quote, but I'm still not sure it was meant to be a joke at the time. I say this because the quote is originally from an interview Peter did with The Guardian in 2011 and Malcolm's house was filmed in 2009. So I think it’s possible it maybe looks more like an in-joke now than it did when the episode was made.

booksandwater reblogged your photoset:
What do you think Malcolm’s home is like beyond...
I think the books, or at least the ones we can see when the camera pans on them, must have been added because there’s...
Well, I dunno, it seems to me that War & Peace is a pretty common book to have around and for me seems quite consistent with what you'd expect from someone (anyone) who lives in a house like that.
The shelf is something of a jumble, but you can see some of the other titles and for the most part they all fit a certain loose theme of politics and economics and history.
Now if there had been an extremely visible copy of The Crow Road or Mr Wakefield's Crusade or The Lair of the White Worm or Les Liaisons dangereuses or Fortysomething or Smilla’s Sense of Snow etc.etc. etc. that would be an entirely different matter!
