Book 1 of 2023 Layla by Colleen Hoover Book Review Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ OMG this book is out of this world! It’s definitely a whole spectrum of emotions for me as a reader: happiness, sadness, disgust, fear, relief. I love how it was written, how it evokes emotion. **spoiler alert: during the conflict (which I believe was the longest conflict I’ve read) I felt disgusted by what Leeds was doing, using someone’s body to communicate with an entirely different entity but it all makes sense in the end.** This isn’t the first book I opened for the year but this is the first one I’ve finished and I read it in less than a day. It definitely is going to my favourites this year. I chose to work from home today so I can spend more hours to read and finish it. This is definitely going to my favorites and book recs 😍 I immediately ordered my physical copy so I could transfer my annotations!!! It’s arriving on Sunday 🥰 🔖 #layla #laylacolleenhoover #cohobooks #cohobookreview #bookreview #bookrecommendations #fivestarread #bookishcanadians #bookblogger #bibliophile #bookstagramcanada #bookstagramphilippines #bookstagramfeature #bookishcommunity #booksofinstagram #bookreview #bookreviewer #igreads #bookworld #bookworm #booksbooksbooks #readersofinstagram #bookgram #booklover #booknerd #bookcommunity #bookstagrammer #goodreads (at Calgary, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnYdWJir5zD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello! I’m almost done my buddy read of Let Me In by @rmvirtues with @queerlyreading and I’m really loving it so far! I plan to finish it today during my commute home and I’m so excited to see how everything wraps up. This is a guaranteed five stars once I finish! Dio and Athena have such amazing chemistry both in and out of the bedroom, re-affirming my stance on friends-to-lovers being an amazing dynamic. I’ve definitely been taking my time with this one, compared to how I flew through the first two, but that’s entirely the formatting rather than the book itself. My brain has a hard time processing the amount of empty space in these pages, but I love reading these books physically too much to switch formats! I have to be able to tab and annotate! Do you use tabs or annotate your physical books? What method do you prefer? #godsofhunger #godsofhungerseries #letmeinrmvirtues #buddyread #annotatedbooks #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #fivestarread https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd_rR_yvvLD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Shut Up and Write The Book Review
Tumblr media
First, I wanted to thank Jenna for giving me an E-ARC in return for an honest review. That being said, all thoughts and comments below are my honest opinions and I stand by them.
If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. If you are a fan of Jenna's YouTube videos where she shares her thoughts and opinions on different writing topics with her own brand of snarky humor then you will love this book, if you are in the market for a nonfiction book about the writing process that is.
I have read many writing craft books over the years. Everything from Save the Cat and Save the Cat Writes a Novel to books like The 38 Most Common Fiction Writing Mistakes and How To Avoid them, and Shut Up and Write the Book is by far the best at explaining its message of the writing process.
Shut Up and Write the Book succeeds where other books of the genre fail, by simplifying an already overwhelming process by explaining things in a more conversational manner. I found with books like Save the Cat and its spiritual successors; the authors take a more academic or clinical approach when explaining the process. Jenna takes what can be a difficult and very overwhelming process and makes it easily digestible. I don't know about you, but for me back when I was in school like 100 years ago, I had a hard time understanding the "rules" of any course when they were explained academically. A lot of times it took the teacher breaking it down conversationally for me to grasp the concept at hand. That being said, I have a learning disability that affects the way I learn, even to this day.
In addition to breaking down the outlining process there are other helpful hints and tips throughout the book. Jenna breaks down the editing process, which is more prudent for those who are going the indie route. There's a whole chapter devoted to critique partners, beta readers, and sensitivity readers. A chapter all about titleing your book and so much more.
I am outlining (truly for the first time) my next book and Shut Up and Write the Book has already streamlined what I found to be an extremely daunting process. Besides that, at this moment in time, I am querying a book and some of the feedback has planted a seed that was fully sprouted by reading this book. So I am going to make those changes and then re-query my manuscript to see if that makes any difference for me.
If you are on the fence about yet another craft book thinking, you won't get anything new from it. I feel you should give it a read for yourself before passing your judgment. I found this book 100 times more helpful than most of the craft books I've read, including those more popular titles.
You can preorder Shut Up and Write the Book in ebook, paperback, and hardcover here. books2read.com/suawtb Your preorder comes with a free workbook.

Count with me. Let's play. Firstly, never have I ever read a book from this author and of course I regret some of my past choices on books. I wish I had picked up her books faster. Secondly, never have I ever read a witchy book that is so highly entertaining and spicy, and of course I have devoured it like the last portion of dessert in the refrigerator. It has everything supernatural creatures, magic, nasty hexs and intriguing third act. Thirdly, never I have ever loved any characters alter-ego more than the character, but Alpha has totally growled his way in and made permanent position. Wolfs are a thing, and I might have changed my team for him. Maybe. Fourthly, never have I ever screamed 'kiss already' this much, as I did, reading the first twenty chapters of this book, too much cute chemistry and slow angsty foreplay, but i needed more. But my heart, when it finally happened, I screamed a bit more, yes, it was that good! Fifthly, never have I ever enjoyed the presence of a comic-lover character, but Evie did it, the way she is so proudly herself, kind of makes the reader feel good about themselves unapologetically. Here is my all the five reasons for the 4.5 stars for this book. The only thing that chipped the final star is the 'big reveal', I kind of saw that from a kilometer away. Enough about me, let's talk about you. Have you raved enough about this series? What is your favorite paranormal series? Lessons in Chemistry has to be one of the most hyped books this year and I’ve seen it everywhere with not a single criticism. That made me want to read even more and when Waterstones brought out an exclusive edition with the Periodic Table stencilled on the edges, this made this little scientist’s heart very happy!⁣ ⁣ This is the story of Elizabeth Zott, a talented, intelligent and determined scientist working in the Hastings Research Institute in California in the 1960’s. Elizabeth is desperate to be taken seriously as a scientist but is never given any credit or recognition until she meets Calvin Evans who falls in love with her steadfast, quirky nature and brilliant mind. ⁣ ⁣ Unfortunately, a few years later, Elizabeth finds herself a single mother and a reluctant participant in a new cooking show. Her strange approach to cooking (mix a teaspoon of acetic acid with a pinch of sodium chloride) makes her a star. Through the style of her cooking and her own unique personality, she encourages women all round the country to reach for their dreams and change the world for the better. ⁣ ⁣ This is such a wholesome book. I instantly connected with Elizabeth’s character and being a female scientist myself, I’ve had my fair share of sexism in the workplace but happily, times do seem to be changing. Or, perhaps we all need to take a spoonful of Elizabeth’s advice and not put up with it?⁣ ⁣ Lessons In Chemistry gave me that beautiful warm feeling inside. If I wasn’t cooing over Elizabeth’s super clever dog, “Six Thirty,” I was rooting for our female lead as she suffered and then took the proverbial bull by the horns and changed her life. It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions from sadness to anger, worry and pure joy. It’s a book to be savoured and relished and it’ll be a long time before I forget Elizabeth Zott. ⁣ ⁣ Five perfect stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 #bookstagram #scottishbookstagrammer #bookreview #bookreviewer #lessonsinchemistry #bonniegarmus #fivestarread #booksoftheyear2022 #unforgettablereads #memorablebooks #elizabethzott #feministnovels #pickupthisbook #shoutingaboutthegoodstuff #bestfemalecharacterofalltime https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg-BRxHr7Qa/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐BOOK REVIEW⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five stars for Adrienne Young's The Girl the Sea Gave Back! I wish I had read this book right after Sky in the Deep. I would have spent less time asking who people were from the last story and how it’s related to this story. But I think I figured it out somewhat still. I read this almost a year after its previous book. The story is ten years after Sky in the Deep’s story, when the two warring clans have come to peace and formed one big clan. The book’s chapters alternate between Halvard and Tova. Halvard is the main character from Sky in the Deep’s little brother. He’s grown now but has yet to fight in his own war because there’s been peace. Tova is the girl the sea gave back. Her parents believe she is dead and place her on a funeral boat. It is set afire and floated away. But she’s not dead and her boat washes ashore near the Svell where their tala finds her. Jorrund, the tala, raises her and she casts stones for them. Because of her tattoos and future telling everyone else fears here and attempts to kill her.  Fate brings these two together as the Svell starts a war with the new peaceful clan Halvard is from. I love Adrienne Young’s stories. I’ve read Sky in the Deep, this one, Fable, and Namesake. I don’t know what it is, though. If it’s me or the way she describes characters but...for full review click the link in my bio! #amreading #reading #bookreview #adrienneyoung #vikingbooks #ya #yareads #yabooks #wednesdaybooks #fivestarread #bookstagram #bookish #bookworm #booklover #authorlife #authorsofinstagram #writerslife #writersofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CgEzZStrnsV/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Happy Thursday! For #thrillerthursday I have a wonderful time travel crime thriller by Kelley Armstrong called A Rip Through Time. It’s the first book in the series featuring a modern day detective who gets thrown back to Victorian Scotland. It’s a five star read for me and I highly recommend. If you want to see my review, you can head over to my blog site - link in bio. Today my new home phone cellphone arrived and I’ve been struggling to get it to activate. I did away with a landline years ago because it just didn’t make sense to have anymore. But… I did want a number to give to websites and such that are the source of all those lovely spam calls I don’t want… so, a home phone cellphone. 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 Do you have a separate line you consider a “home phone”? Is it a landline or another cellphone. 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 . . . . #allthebooksjune22 #aripintime #kelleyarmstrong #stmartinspress #thrillerbooks #thriller #thrillerreads #thrillerbooks #thrillerbook #thrillerbooksaddict #crimethriller #timetravel #victorianera #netgalley #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #netgalleyarc #bookandflowers #fivestarread #bookreview #bookreaderscommunity #thrillerreader #bookdragon #bookdragons #mysterythriller #tessatalksbooks #bookblogger #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookbloggerlife #bookbloggersofig (at Lake Davidson) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cel_DmdrIXx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Belladonna by @authoradalyngrace It’s about time I come back from my unexpected hiatus, and what better book to do it with. Signa is a fascinating character and seeing her grow and change throughout the book was a gothic pleasure. But I must admit my heart has been stolen by Death, in all his forms. I loved his portrayal so much. His role was perfect and I loved the unique take. Then we have the mystery. A gothic murder mystery full of twists and turns and different victims and leads and I was kept guessing till the end. I am more than excited for Foxglove! What a way to bring it all together! This 3rd Redwood University book is intense from cover to cover. Between the action, the danger, and the scorching hot chemistry between Nicole and Alexei, there's no putting this one down. I had plenty of questions going into this book, and the dynamic duo that makes up Poppy Ireland answered them all. I completely fell in love with the world created in this trilogy, so this third book was kind of bittersweet. I was impatient to get ahold of it and dreading to see the end at the same time. That's the single drawback for me - I want more of this world. I can guarantee that I'll be visiting again and again. If you haven't read the first two Redwood University books yet, I strongly suggest that you do because this is a continuing story with cliffhangers in the first two books. If you prefer to wait and binge-read the whole thing rather than sit with the cliffies, then it's time to get started. This is an awesome story from beginning to end, and as the authors' debut, they've set the bar high for whatever comes next.

🏒 Book Review 🏒
Iced Out by Veronica Eden
Heston U Hotshots book 1
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was amazing! I’m a sucker for a good delicious hockey romance with a swoon worthy hero and a strong sassy heroine and this was that and so much more I love the he falls for her first trope throw in some forbidden angst and amazing chemistry with outside drama and a awesome lineup of secondary characters toppled with Veronica Eden’s amazing writing and I’m hooked! I can’t wait for the next book already this series is going to be gold ! 🤩

💚 Tropes 💚
🏒 Hockey Romance
🏒 Rival's Sister / Brother's Rival

🏒 Not actually a trope, but…𝙣𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙙 𝙖𝙘𝙩 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙪𝙥!

But my would-be knight would have to do. I needed an escape route from my brother…his biggest rival.
Easton Blake is the perfect reminder of why I avoid hockey players.
Cocky.
Frustratingly sexy.
Accustomed to every girl in his orbit falling for his charm.
With his sultry smile that tells me he knows all the ways to make girls come undone with his touch, I’m almost the next score on his stats. Except I have no time for distractions when I’m focused on graduating early. Gaining Easton’s attention wasn’t part of my plans. Of course, from the moment he catches me shaking my 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘴 on the bar, he decides I’m his next goal.
Instead of sticking to my own rules, I do something I shouldn’t: 𝘐 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘳𝘺.
Easton’s never met a challenge he wouldn’t accept. He makes it clear he won’t be iced out without convincing me to give him a chance.

He shows how the recovery journey comes first, especially your own. Making tough choices, and living with and making amends for the wreckage of your past. Acceptance of being an addict forever and fighting the good fight. Jake & Felix's banter was hilarious. Their love for each other, sweet and eye opening. Eric LaRoccas books always amaze me.
I love horror and his books are just soo fun to read. I just got done with ‘You’ve Lost a Lot of Blood’ and I LOVE the formatting and how it’s book within a book.
I don’t know what I could possibly say to anyone to convince them to read this, but I hope this will do:
- Format is amazing for people who get distracted easily. I never felt bored and was LITERALLY on the edge of my seat in my biology class.
- The ending of BOTH the story, and the story IN the story is just amazing!!
- Easy to read and was really quick, so if you’re looking to spruce up your bookshelf a bit, I recommend…
Anyways, yeah that’s my mini-review on ‘You’ve lost a lot of blood’.
5/5 stars
