I’m a pretty casual fan of ASOIAF, Lord of the Rings is more my style, but I’ve been reading some of the lore recently and I’m absolutely delighted by how many parallels and clear inspirations GRRM took from Arthurian legend. Aemond in particular caught my attention because he bears such a striking resemblance to Mordred in so many ways in terms of his role in the narrative. Mutual kill with his uncle? Check. Close relationship with an evil sorceress? Check. Mommy issues? Check. Doomed by the historical narrative? Check. Are you a fan of Arthurian legend? What are your thoughts?
Tumblr media
Same.
I'm pretty steeped in ASoIF lore - though Martin continues to change the lore at convenience - but I'm a bigger Tolkien fan and nerd than G.R.R. Martin. Especially Tolkien's First Age Stories like "Beren and Luthien" & "Children of Hurin".
"Beren & Luthien" might be the greatest story ever told. Around Christmas I put that chapter on when I'm out doing Christmas shopping and when I'm out on my Birthday.
And "Children of Hurin" is one of my favorite books of all time - the audiobook as read by Christopher Lee is beyond epic. And has been one of the biggest influences on my writing.
As for Arthurian Legend, I grew up on it. My old man was a geek before the word really existed and he was into fantasy. So, I was introduced into Knights and Chivalry at a very - very - early age. Especially in the early-2000's when "Lord of the Rings" was big but there wasn't a lot of it available where I lived, my 11-13 year old self's want for Lord of the Rings anything sent me back down into the Arthurian rabbit hole.
I grew up with and still love "Excalibur" and the Merlin Mini-Series from the late-90's that Jim Henson and NBC did.
It's funny you bring up Tolkien and Arthurian Myth because I've written Downton Abbey fanfiction for years and a lot of the story series is based on "The Children of Hurin" by Tolkien and I used archetypes from Arthurian Legend for the characters. I steeped a lot of those Downton Abbey stories in an Arthurian mold and Tolkien sensibilities.
As for Aemond being Mordred.
Oh, you done done it now, my friend.
You got me started.
If I might expand your ascertain of Aemond being Mordred.
The way I see it is that Alicent is Guinevere and Criston is Lancelot. Aemond is most definitely Mordred. And Daeron is absolutely Galahad.
I would postulate that both Aemond and Daeron are the sons of Alicent and Criston's duality. Of course, I don't mean literally - but figuratively. They were both born after Alicent and Criston devoted themselves to one another, both were raised by the two, and both look at Criston is more of a father than Viserys. Unlike say Aegon and Helaena. Both Aemond and Daeron see Alicent and Criston as their parents.
Much like Mordred, I see Aemond as sort of the manifestation of all of Alicent and Criston's sins of envy and lust, not just of Rhaenyra's transgressions, but of their want for one another. Aemond bears Criston's hatred and Alicent's anger. He is a creation, a creature, of that darker and more human side of a virtuous and righteous idealistic veneer.
While, much like Galahad, Daeron embodies the ennobling features of Criston and Alicent's relationship. He is the dutiful and virtuous figure that his mother strives to be and the stalwart and just warrior that Criston tries to maintain. Making him the noblest of all knights.
While Aemond carries Alicent and Criston's humanity and flaws
Daeron bears their idealism and dreams.
The two showing the almost duality of their parent's two natures as a whole.

The first felt too unfinished to not be excited to see where Villeneuve brings it next.
13. Wonka (Paul King) – 12.15.23
Really couldn’t care less about Chalamet, and this project is totally unnecessary. But... I’m a die-hard Roald Dahl fan, and this is directed by the man who gave us Paddington 2, so... yeah.

C’mon... It’s Scorsese!
15. The Killer (David Fincher) – TBD

Malick does Jesus...
25. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (Wes Anderson) – TBD

I'm stupid I actually thought this was a link to troll 2. well I'm here so may as well get some tips, can you rec some fun werewolf movies? don't have to be horror or necessarily good, but an enjoyable watch. I'm getting around to seeing a bunch of them with a friend :)
IM SO SORRY i would link troll 2 link if i had one that i knew had no ads. anyways please watch troll 2 yes yes i would love to...I feel like i've seen way less werewolf than vampire movies but here are a few: The Howling (1981): I think the howling is GREAT and it has some stop motion werewolves that are so cute to me. I love the designs in this movie! I love their giant ears!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Howling II is fun too because Christopher Lee is here and he's always great, huge downgrade effects wise SADLY. but there is SPOILERS?! an utterly bizarre fully clothed werewolf orgy scene and its very funny. There is a thousand or whatever year old werewolf in leather who can do magic, it’s just one of the best characters ever put in anything for sure.
The Beast Must Die (1974): This is a fun little 70s werewolf movie, it doesn't have the grand effects of some of the others and it's more of a murder mystery where a bunch of people are trapped in a house together trying to find out who the werewolf is. peter cushing is here! It's an amicus production so if you've seen them, you know the vibe. There's a fun little thing where before they reveal the werewolf the movie pauses and lets you guess who which I love. Check this out
Tumblr media
There werewolf is kinda just. a dog. but it's cute
Tumblr media
Silver Bullet (1985): I REALLY LIKE THIS ONE, I saw it a pretty long time ago but it's just a lot of fun. Gary Busey. Kids suicide baiting a werewolf. Pretty fun effects, I like the suit. Also love the character who is the werewolf, gets a badass eyepatch.
Tumblr media
Curse of the Werewolf (1961): Really great if you're into 60s horror and Hammer films. One of Hammer's strongest films, imo. Some batshit lore going on here, it's in the 18th century in spain, and this dude is just BORN a werewolf talk about unlucky. I'm a fan of the more wolfman design they used for this movie. I think it's very funny he keeps his shirt on and its showing off his chest
Tumblr media
Not the full movie, but I like the werewolf segment in the movie Trick r Treat (2007) as well. I think it's an interesting way to show them changing Waxwork (1988) also has a werewolf segment of the movie and i like this guy a lot

Random movie reviews Treasure Island 1990
So Treasure Island is one of the first books I ever read ,and its a story I am fond of .I have seen multiple adaptations ,my favorites being Muppet Treasure Island and Treasure Island 1934 ,but each version has things I like and things I dont .
So this version is a TV movie that aired on TNT in the USA ,and it stars Charton Heston,Christain Bale ,Oliver Reed and Christopher Lee (Dont get too excited Reed and Lee are barely in this ) and its one I have wanted to see for a while
Tumblr media
For those who dont know the story,it follow a young boy named Jim Hawkins ( Christain Bale) , who finds a treasure map that belonged to drunken pirate Billy Bones (Oliver Reed) ,and sets off on an adventure with Dr Livsey (Julian Glover ),Squire Trelawney (Richard Johnson ) and Captain Smollet (Clive Wood ) only to find pirates have infiltrated the ship lead by the ships one legged cook Long John Silver (Charlton Heston )
I really enjoyed this ,it had issues but I liked it . I think most of the supporting cast is really good:Julian Glover is pitch perfect casting for Livesey ,Clive Wood nails the serious minded Smollet ,Richard Johnson is the best Trelawney I have ever seen , and the great Pete Postlethwaite was born to play a pirate and is excellent as the oppurtunistic George Merry . Oliver Reed is good casting for Billy Bones ,though far from my favorite iteration (That would be Billy Connolly or Lionel Barrymore ) but he is very good in his limited screen time .Christopher Lee is amazing in his small role as the villainous Blind Pew,being quite frightening ,and almost unrecognizable ,even doing a higher voice then his signature bass ,it might be one of my favorite roles I have seen him in .Charlton Heston I think is a very good Long John Silver ,nailing the likable charm mixed with the fact he is a murdering pirate .I do have issues (I'll get into that ) and he's not my favorite Silver (Honestly there are too many good Silvers ) ,but he is excellent. The film might be my favorite looking Treasure Island ,having good production values, action scenes are well done (I like that we actually do get a fight between Silver and George Merry ),and it was pretty good
As for negatives I do have a few.One is this was too long (Its a short book ,and most versions I feel tell the story better in a about 100+ minutes or less, this is over two hours ).I am not a fan of Christain Bale ,and that is true here,he is way to intense for Jim .*I also thought Jims fight with ISeral Hands was staged badly ,I didnt like the actor playing Hands ,I dont think Bale plays it right ,and the music during that scene is bad .Also it has been a long time since I have read the book ,so I dont know if it is in the book....But it is my preferred interpertation ,I like when despite being a villain through and through,Silver cares about Jim ,and Jim being truly heartbroken to find out Silver is evil .....And there is just none of that friendship here and I dont buy when Heston's Silver defends Jim
Despite the flaws ,I did enjoy this ,this was an enjoyable pirate romp .I think it is worth watching for the performances and the production design/values are really good

Amber Nicolette Lee-Biersack
Tumblr media
Amber Nicolette Lee-Biersack is the only child of Tommy Lee and Heather Locklear. Born on December 8th, 1987.
She is the godchild of Nikki Sixx.
Amber developed anger problems during her parents divorce that only got worse during Pamela and Tommy’s sex tape scandal.
She started White Rabbit with Ella Sixx when she was 22 and Ella was 16.
Amber is her father’s mini me. She has his curly dark brown hair, hazel eyes, tanned skin, and also is decently curvy. She also has a natural aptitude for drums and piano, and her father’s generally positive but outspoken attitude as well. But don’t let that fool you, she also learned how to kick some ass from the Kings of the Strip.
Amber met her husband Andy Biersack in 2011 before Warped Tour started that year. Prior to dating Andy, she was in her “hoe phase.”
Andy and Amber got married in 2015, and have 3 children: Addison Ella Biersack (born in 2016), Thomas Christopher Biersack (born in 2020), and Rosemarie Andrea Biersack (born in 2022)

Down Goes The Singer
Summary: I’m sure y’all know what this is about. If you don’t, just Google Andy Six falling and you’ll find the video from their 2011 Set the World On Fire album release when Andy broke a few ribs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
June 18th, 2011
Everything was perfect. The fans were amazing and Andy had pregamed pretty extensively beforehand to release some of the anxiety. So now all that was left was to slay this concert for the Set The World On Fire release.
“What the fuck is up Los Angeles? We’re Black Veil Brides,” Andy announced and Amber gave a big smile from her spot near the stage.
“You go Rockstar!” She told him in the in ear and got a brilliant smile as the guys started with the set list.
The beginning to All Your Hate started playing and a sinking feeling developed in Amber’s stomach as she saw Andy start climbing up onto the concrete ledges next to the stage.
After the chorus ended, Andy sat down and the sinking feeling fell to her ass as she saw Andy launch himself off the ledge.
“Guys, keep playing,” Amber told the guys as she jumped the barricade and ran towards her boyfriend that was sprawled on the ground.
“Andy!” Amber yelled as two people in their forties came around the corner. One of the security guards started to perform CPR, making Amber shove him.
“Where did you get your degree? The University of Dumbass? You’re making it worse,” Amber hissed and she ran a fingertip over her boyfriend’s chiseled features.
“Hey Goddess,” Andy smiled.
“Don’t you dare move,” She told him and he smiled and then winced.
“I’m a nurse’s kid, remember?” He reminded her and she rolled her eyes.
“A nurse’s son that should’ve known better,” the woman spoke up, before walking up to the couple and gently placing her fingertips on his lower chest, checking for broken ribs.
“Andy, really?” The man asked when the woman nodded.
“Chris, did you call EMS?” She asked and the man nodded.
“Yes dear. Dispatch said they’d be here in less than ten minutes,” Chris responded.
It was then that the lightbulb went off in Amber’s head.
“So tell me about your parents?” Amber had asked Andy one night when they had just gotten back to the apartment she shared with Ella.
“Their names are Chris and Amy and live in Cincinnati. My dad was actually our roadie, manager, and literally everything under the sun up until recently,”
“Really?” Amber had been shocked. Not that she couldn’t picture her own dad doing the same. But he’d always just offer to pay for a few roadies.
“You must be Amber,” Amy smiled at the woman kneeling on her son’s other side, who smiled.
“Yes ma’am,”
“I thought you were joking kid,” Chris murmured to his son who laughed, and then groaned.
“Chris, take Amber and lead EMS over here please?” Amy asked and Amber stood up and jogged to where she could hear commotion.
“Well this is a hell of a way to meet my son’s girlfriend. I’m Chris. You know I thought he was pulling my chain when he said that he was dating Tommy Lee’s daughter,” Chris laughed as Amber cleared the way for EMS.
“I just hope he didn’t hurt himself too bad,” Amber told the man that would become her father in law.

Andy Meeting Heather and Tommy
Tumblr media
TW: None
Summary: Dating a Rock Legend’s daughter is all fun until you have to meet said legend.
A/N: I originally wasn’t gonna pick this gif, but it looks like he is like “YESS!”
“Dad, you know the guy I’ve gone out with? The rocker?” Amber asked her dad.
“Yeah, how’s that gone? You haven’t told me much Princess,”
“It’s going really good. So good that I want to have him meet you and mom. I already cleared it with her,”
“Your mom wants to have dinner at the same table as me?” Tommy laughed. They managed to keep everything as civil as possible for Amber’s sake, but there were definitely words that needed to be said between the two since their last fight. When Tommy was busted being out with a porn star and Heather filed for divorce.
“Yes. And I talked to Pam. The boys will be with her tonight, and uncle Nikki said there’s no band practice. But you’re to tell him everything.” Amber shook her head and laughed.
“I swear dad, you two are like teenagers,”
A glint of mischief flashed in Tommy’s eyes.
“Sweetheart, you have no idea how wrong you are, we were so much worse,” he laughed and then got serious.
“Obviously, this means a lot if you did all the legwork. You got your mom to agree to this, and talked to Pam about the boys, and the least I could do is meet your boyfriend,” He smiled. Lately, his daughter had a sort of femme fatale attitude.
When Nikki and Tommy brought it up to Nikki’s wife Taylor, she assured them that it was normal. Every woman goes through this phase. They needed to explore the more sexual side of themselves.
If anything was wrong with Amber, Taylor would know. The two grew close when Nikki started seriously dating her when Amber was about 5. Taylor had become a second mother figure to the young woman. Especially during the divorce.
But this wasn’t a typical femme fatale scenario. Tommy could tell that at least.
He now knew what his own parents saw when he was head over heels in love. Tommy was glad that his fucked up relationships when she was growing up didn’t take the hopeless romantic trait from his daughter.
“Thanks Dad,” Amber gave her dad a big hug, one that Tommy sunk into. He treasured these moments with his daughter. When he felt like he was hugging his little girl again. But, no matter how big she got, she’d always be his little girl.
-----
“It’ll be fine babe,” Andy coaxed over the phone while Amber finished getting ready. Her mom wasn’t who she was worried about. Amber had talked to her mom a lot about Andy. Heather hadn’t seen Amber be so in love with a boyfriend before, and naturally, she wanted as many details as possible.
What worried Amber was her dad. The tabloids have been comparing Andy’s band to Mötley Crüe since their beginning.
Admittedly, they took a huge inspiration from them. But, with Andy penning Nikki’s last name during the very beginning of his career, she didn’t know how her dad was going to react. Uncle Nikki was the brother her father didn’t have. Not that he didn’t love having Athena as his little sister, but there was a brother bond he didn’t have with anyone besides Nikki. So, he naturally was protective over him, just like with Athena.
“Don’t be surprised if we see my uncle Nikki sitting in the corner spying,” Amber laughed nervously.
“And that would be fine by me.” He told her, getting ready himself.
Dating a legend’s daughter was nerve wracking, but he could handle it. But had someone told him five years ago that he would date a beautiful woman that also referenced his biggest musical hero as “uncle Nikki”, he would’ve been bouncing off the walls.
“You don’t know my uncle Nikki,” Amber laughed, picturing her uncle grabbing a chair and doing a good cop bad cop routine with her dad.
“I hope I will. But, anyway, babe. Just relax. Dinner will be fine. You already got your parents to sit at the same table, which seems like the hard part,”
The couple arrived at the restaurant a few minutes early.
“For Lee,” Amber spoke to the hostess. Her brown curls were curled to perfection. Andy was dressed respectfully, but without sacrificing his style. Leather jacket over a nice button up and expensive jeans that fit him perfectly.
“You look great baby,” Amber whispered as the host led them to the table where Heather was already sat.

My #1 post of 2022
Dirty at Download
Requested by @youlightmeupfinn. More specifically Tipsy!Taylor
Summary: After Black Veil Brides’ set at Download 2022, Andy decides he’s got some pent up energy that he needs to get out. Luckily, the kids’ godfather is now free since the set is over.
Photos taken from Andy’s insta
TW: Smut, slight degradation, cursing, bondage (Very slight, but I still wanna throw that warning out there)
A/N: I haven’t written smut in so fucking long. So some constructive criticism is definitely welcome 😊
Tumblr media
Andy had just finished Black Veil’s set at Download, and he had energy he needed to get out.
His jeans had tightened halfway through his set when he ran off stage for a second to get some water and give his wife and kids kisses.
There was one bit of Amber left from her hoe days. And that was the ability to make men want her with only a kiss.
“Hey Jake, CC, you mind keeping an eye on the kids for a bit?” Andy asked and CC chuckled and Jake shook his head. They both knew damn well why they needed to babysit.
“Yeap. Bring me my godchildren,” Jake laughed and Andy walked to where he saw his beautiful wife and 2 of his 3 kids standing side stage throughout the set.
They had left Rose with Tommy and Brittany while the couple was in England for Download. Especially with her only being a few months old, it would be best if she was left home for this year’s and next year’s festivals.
When he finally got to his wife, she was smiling as their kids were air playing music as the stagehands were getting ready for the next act and rock music played over the speakers.
“Hey guys, Uncle Jake and Uncle CC want to play with you guys,” Andy told them and then he noticed his drummer coming up to them.
“I’ve been sent to collect some rugrats,” he told them and scooped Tommy in his arms and held his hand out for Addy to take. With the amount of people here, Andy wouldn’t be able to have alone time with his missus if either of their kids got lost.
“UNCLE CC!” Addy yelled and instead of taking his hand, she attached herself to his long legs.
“So we’re gonna take Uncle CC for a ride instead?” He laughed, earning a nod from Addison. Tommy rested his head on the drummer’s chest, too content and a little tired to ride uncle CC’s legs like his big sister.
“Well I’m pretty sure the guys didn’t want to immediately babysit after your guys’ amazing set. Am I sensing you had something to do with this?” Amber asked, a smirk on her lips and batting her long eyelashes once the kids were out of earshot.
“Yeah, I want you now,” he spoke lowly in her ear before placing either hand on her sides, blocking her in with his arms and body. His teeth taking her earlobe between them.
A gasp left Amber’s lips before she bit down on her bottom lip to keep from moaning in public.
“C’mon kitten,” he stood eye to eye with her and Amber’s smirk deepened.
“Lead the way rockstar,” she told him, taking his large hand in hers. The same hands that would delicately hold their children could make her scream in pleasure.
Andy led them to his dressing room. Once Amber made it through the door, he turned around, pressing her body against the door, and roughly grasping her chin in his hands and bringing his lips down to her and bringing her into a kiss that screamed that he meant business.
He took her bottom lip between his teeth and sucked. Amber pressed her body on the door, using the door to support her weight as she brought her legs up to wrap around her husband’s waist.
“Learn that in dance class?” He asked her when he broke the kiss. His oceanic eyes were barely discernible from his pupil as it consumed the blue with lust.
Amber smirked.
“Maybe,” she told him and he walked backwards towards one of the couches in the dressing room, flipping them so Amber’s back laid on the couch, and bringing his lips down to her neck that she bared as soon as she saw his eyes lock on it. Andy’s skillful lips pressed into his wife’s sweet spot and a moan left her mouth and she tightened her grip on his waist.
“Did I say you could tighten your legs? Nah fuck that, open your gorgeous legs for me kitten,” he demanded and Amber closed her eyes in delight as she felt heat travel down her body and looking at her core.
“Yes daddy,” she purred and spread her legs as wide as she could with skinny jeans on. Before she could completely open them, Andy’s hands stopped her.
“Let’s see what you have on for me,” Andy unbuttoned the jeans to reveal a lacy black and red thong. Andy’s cock tightened even more, if that was even possible, behind his skinny jeans.

THE VENTURE BROS.: THE COMPLETE SERIES - Review
DISTRIBUTOR: Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: Twenty years in the making, one of the iconic pillars of Adult Swim, THE VENTURE BROS., comes to DVD and digital in a box set that includes the seven year run of the show, all 82 episodes (14 discs), plus every single piece of previously released special features.
REVIEW: Full disclosure, I have not gone through everything. I only got the package on Friday and there is just so much, and that’s just the episodes. What I have watched so far is a real “Wow!”
The series premiered twenty years ago in 2003. It was the year my daughter was born and it was one of the late night shows on Adult Swim that kept me company. It was a delight to go back and rewatch the early episodes, especially on a big screen TV with surround sound. Oh, and no commercial breaks. Twenty years may not be a lot of time, but the writing still stands the test of time. From the writing and the music, to the design of the series, THE VENTURE BROS. pays homage to many of the adventure animated series we grew up with in our youth but takes to a whole other level, an adult comedy level. Watching these episodes again was like a trip down memory lane and there were quite a few things I had missed and made me appreciate the writing even more.
I popped in all the DVDs to view the menus and see the list of extras. No wonder they didn’t list the special features in the press release because there are a lot of them. I had never watched any of them before so I took in a few. They were well made, entertaining and informative. As a fan of the show I enjoyed the insight they added to the viewing experience.
Regardless of your level of fandom with the show, THE VENTURE BROS.: THE COMPLETE SERIES is a nice package that provides hours of viewing pleasure for you to get reacquainted with an old friend. Regardless of the nostalgia, it is the writing that made the series a hit. Some of the episodes were saterial of the period they were written in, but the style is such that it remains timeless and the humor fresh.
The 14-disc box set has a combined runtime of 1,968 minutes.
The TV series was canceled in 2020, with the final season aired in 2018, but The Venture Bros. swan song is coming with the film The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart and will be available Digitally on July 21st and on Blu-ray Disc on July 25th, 2023.
CAST (voices): James Urbaniak, Christopher McCulloch, Michael Sinterniklaas, Patrick Warburton, Paul Boocock, Doc Hammer; plus a cast of hundreds over the 82 episodes. CREW: Creator/Director/Writer - Christopher McCulloch; Directors - Jon Schnepp, Ki-Yong Bai, Juno John Lee, Barry J. Kelly, & Ethan Marak; Writers - Doc Hammer & Ben Edlund; Series Composer - J.G. Thirlwell; OFFICIAL: www.adultswim.com FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com/adultswim/ TWITTER: twitter.com/adultswim TRAILER: www.youtube.com/@adultswim for lots of clips and the show opening credit sequence. RELEASE DATE: Digitally and on DVD June 13, 2023
**Until we can all head back into the theaters our “COVID Reel Value” will be similar to how you rate a film on digital platforms - 👍 (Like), 👌 (It’s just okay), or 👎 (Dislike)

Dan O’Bannon as Bomb #20 (credited as “Adam Beckenbaugh”)
Miles Watkins as Mission Control
Nick Castle as Alien
Here’s a doozy for all of you John Carpenter fans out there. And, let’s not forget Dan O’Bannon and Jack Harris. This is it, John Carpenter’s first directorial effort, straight out of college (literally), the sci-fi comedy, Dark Star (1974). Strong Stanley Kubrick influences abound from Dr. Strangelove… (1964) to  2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). You don’t have to look too closely to see the elements that leap from this film into Dan O’Bannon’s Alien (1979) script. In fact, Aliens (1986), directed by James Cameron, pays homage to this film with its famous knife challenge gag. Rough around the edges for certain, Dark Star still manages to entertain and provide a chuckle or two. Check out what the Grue Crew thinks. Strap in and may the beach ball alien be with you!
At the time of this writing, Dark Star is available to stream from most free w/ads, subscription, and PPV sources. It is also available on Blu-ray from VCI Video.
Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1970s is part of the Decades of Horror two-week rotation with The Classic Era and the 1980s. In two weeks, the next episode, chosen by Doc, will be Hammer’s The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973). Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee for the win!

So I've just watched 'The Life and Deaths of Christopher Lee' and his son-in-law said that Christopher was watching the Lord of the Rings on TV in the hospital before he passed away. After watching the movie he went to sleep and then peacefully passed away. That broke my heart into million pieces. Like he just waited to watch it one last time before he passed to the Undying Lands. He really just was the biggest Lord of the Rings fan ever and no one can convince me otherwise.
Watching Lord of the Rings will never be the same now.... 😭

What was the name of the 2007 film adapted from Philip Pullman's book 'Northern Lights'?
Tumblr media
'The Golden Compass' (2007) is a fantasy film based on the book 'Northern Lights' (1995), the first novel in Philip Pullman's (born 1946) trilogy 'His Dark Materials'. The film stars Dakota Blue Richards, Nicole Kidman, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee and Daniel Craig in key roles.
Lord Asriel (Craig) has found something called "dust" that separates humans and another universe. Not believing in this idea, The Magistrate, a very large group of important people, try to kill Asriel by poisoning his drink. Lyra (Richards), his niece, prevents the attempt on her uncle's life, allowing him to go on a trip to the North Pole to find this "dust".
Lyra is given an alethiometer (the golden compass), which reveals the truth through cryptic symbols. Mrs. Coulter (Kidman), a supposed friend, tries to take it from Lyra, promising they will go to the North Pole to find Lord Asriel.
Many scenes from the novel did not feature in the film or were markedly changed. Had everything been included, the film would have had likely three hours of running time. In cutting it down to under two hours, some Philip Pullman fans complained the film failed to live up to the book. Nonetheless, 'The Golden Compass' received an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
