The kiddads shouldn't have been going to the Church of the Doodler as teens, they should have been jousting in shopping carts with pool noodles until the grocery store manager came up to them and said, "It's time" as his means of kicking them out.

I love It (the book by Stephen King). I've been reading it very slowly over a matter of months. The world feels so real and alive and I'm deeply invested in the characters. But you know what makes my skin crawl? Everything with Beverly. The boys don't get described like she does--worshipfully and constantly sexualized. The boys' sexualities feel more grounded; they are people going through puberty. She, on the other hand, is overtly objectified over and over and fucking over. It's very uncomfortable. If King described any of the boys with the same lust he does for Bev, he'd be put on a watchlist.
It also makes me sad. Like... you can see all these flavors in boydom but there's only one flavor of girl, and it's the one you whack off to. And she's 11. Jeepers creepers sir.
I'm sure this isn't new criticism, and I actually tried to keep myself from whining about it because surely it's been said at least 10,000 times, but the last straw was Beverly's shirt popping open so everyone could gawk at her breasts. The symbolism is supposed to imply that she's crossed the border from child to young adult, but it's just so clearly filthy. This was after a long string of descriptions of her tight short-shorts and the color of her underwear. Although I hardly mind a frank approach to sexuality, and I appreciate how King sees people (including children!) in their messy entireties, it's just... eeeeughhhhh
I dislike Beverly's treatment for the same reason I dislike King's villains: they're one-note nasty, and physical appearance denotes their moral failures. Beverly is in the same category as Mrs. Kaspbrak and Henry Bowers--where their ugliness means they are wicked, her beauty and sexual availability means she is good. And that's just weird and creepy, however you hash it out.
I'm actually speeding up my read-through just because of this lol

I keep flirting with people not because I want to be with them but because I wanna see how many people fall for me so far I'm actively dating 2 people and have made an overall impression of pathetic boydom on everyone else I can't tell if this is a win or a lose
honestly probably both

Idk why but Niall giving his little cousins (young adult women, though) power over which songs should be on the album is KILLING me. That’s the cutest thing. It’s sad they grew up in NYC because I think Niall having them in his life more growing up would’ve made him a less obnoxious teen fjdjks
anon PLEASE come back and give me the source for where niall said that, i think i missed it! there is no way to catch everything, so much is happening right now omg lol but i would very very much love to see where he gave us that little nugget!! niall really has family all over the world doesn’t he, the grandparent generation of my family is like that, all the siblings moved to different continents so there are pockets everywhere, but my parents’ and my generation are all here so it’s a very unfamiliar thing to me!
also i do think no number of female cousins can quell the tendencies of an obnoxious teen boy lol

1. I found my Jedi robe I got a million years ago and then lost.
2. I found yet another way to intensify my Boba Fett fan-boydom. (Or as a friend has called it, my Boba Fettish lol)

Why specifically Chris? (as in Kauri giving himself up back into box boydom)
The two people he cares about more than anyone else are Chris and Jake. And Jake would never forgive him if he let Chris go back into hell. And Kauri would never forgive himself.
But also... Jake would rather face it than force Kauri back into it just for his sake. I think he would talk Kauri is running and saving himself.
They'd both give up to save Chris, though.

i wonder how actual teens feel about this (and particularly qu**r ones but in general) watching it im just like I REMEMBER BEING A TEEN SOOOO VISCERALLY  through it. and i remember, though i didn’t really grow up with boys (i went to an all girls school) the idea of teenage boydom was in our orbit and watching....so immature, silly, dumb, confused. i had really awful parents tho but besides that I JUST REMEMBER and YIKES.
