honest question - is batgirl fair game? also what if the show decided to do something with the jewish origins of supes mythos and made the Danvers (and therefore Alex) Jewish? 

in my opinion on the batgirl side? no. the first batgirl is barbara gordon, and while she did begin fighting crime due to her sense of justice, she created a legacy as batgirl, and an even greater legacy as oracle after “the killing joke” when she was shot in the spine and disabled. the cw does Not have a good rep with disabled characters--hey did u know that lena luthor is actually a disabled woman that uses a wheelchair? probably not bc the cw is kinda shit--so they would fuck that up. not only that, but the batgirl mantle is very much a batgirl mantle. as in, teenage age. an adult taking it up kid of takes away from that. not only that, but the sheer fact that alex doesnt live in gotham, wasnt born in gotham, didnt grow up seeing its sickness and filth and the rot of the entire terrifying city, that means that, imo, she can never become a gotham hero and do it justice.

from the alex side? definitely not. alex danvers is not the superhero/vigilante type. she is a professional agent. she works within a government agency, not outside it, and she likes it. she is in a fulfilling job she loves and she is not someone who would want to pick up a superhero or vigilante career. it would frankly be out of character and a disrespect to her character for that to happen.

as for the question about making alex jewish--yeah, its too late. not for making the character jewish (there needs to be So Many more jewish characters) but for her to be jewish like kate kane. its too late because if she was kate kane there would be so much more jewish imagery and so much of her heritage and religion referenced and showing that it would be confirmed and 100% hard canon by now. this article, in addition to explaining why alex is not batwoman, does go into a bit more detail about how explicitly jewish kate is, and there are so many things we would have seen if alex practiced judaism like kate. (im not going to go into this more bc the article is written by a jewish person and therefore its way more reliable then my information). either way, its a good read.
