These are all a bunch of smaller ones I thought would be too cumbersome and spammy to post on their own... Enjoy!!

While I do really like Dave's character as it exists in the comic- no clue what version of Dave most of the fandom is talking about, but I don't know him- I kind of like the themes in Davesprite's character more than I do Dave's. It's another Hal situation.

Dave's character tackled a lot of things very personally relatable to me in ways I'd never seen illustrated before, but Davesprite is more interesting to think about, and seems a little more fun to write. Dave was great representation for me, as someone who grew up in a very bad home, but Davesprite just has that extra oomph with his talk of humanity and individuality. Really like that guy.

This may come across as crass, or stepping out of my own lane, but I don't think giving them either multiple sets of pronouns, neopronouns, or both actually rids them of the bigotry in their characters. Lipstick on a pig situation. It just seems like a lazy, incurious fix. Yes, trans headcanons are great, but more and more often I see people use it as a cure-all to the issues a character has, either in a Doylist or Watsonian way. Queer friendliness does not eliminate racism. If a character is a bigoted caricature of a specific group of people, then slapping on a leftist layer of paint by saying "actually they're a minority icon in this other way" doesn't actually... Get rid of the problem. It's just kind of... Tone deaf.

We see this often with Transmisogynistic Caricatures getting claimed as Gay Icons, and people just saying that because they've just claimed them as a campy gay queen, the transmisogyny has been nullified- you can't talk about it anymore, they're the real good leftist in the room, you're a killjoy, and they've defeated bigotry. Not how it works.

Kind of tired of how some act like her only character traits are Silly Ditzy Furry Girl. Jade is an incredibly, incredibly intelligent young girl, an excellent marksman, and so, so deeply lonely. We need to talk about Jade's chronic loneliness more.

Also, I think she's some kind of Psychotic. One of the flavors. It just feels right to me. It feels canon-adjacent. Or, at least, a textually valid way to read her character. I have a whole post about it somewhere. Mituna and Jade shaking hands on the Psychosis.

Taking this opportunity to defend Aranea. Some people really need to stop acting like she's worse than Vriska. We all know what Aranea did was justified. Maybe not correct, but justified. And fucking awesome to watch.

Like, look. She spent an unfathomable amount of years being shot down and ignored and belittled by people who were supposed to be her friends... Aranea had to literally pay Meenah, her own best friend, to listen to her infodump, and even then Meenah couldn't afford to give her own best friend enough respect to just listen to her talk about something she's passionate about for 5 minutes.

I need you to think to yourself, genuinely. If you spent thousands- and I mean thousands upon thousands- of years getting ignored and walked on by everyone around you, even your own friends... If you spent thousands upon thousands of years getting called boring and a doormat to your face by even your own friends... Wouldn't you go crazy, too? Wouldn't you snap? Wouldn't you want to do something drastic just to get people to look at you? Just to be seen as something other than weak and boring? Just to be seen as worth even an iota of interest, a shred of someone's time? Wouldn't you? Because I think any normal person wouldn't take thousands upon thousands of years. I don't think you would last a decade. I wouldn't either, and I'm a pretty patient person.

Y'all are just jealous you can't play billiards with planets using your mind when you're mad. That shit was so awesome.

This is not an Unpopular Opinion, or even an Opinion, I'm just pointing this out. Do you ever think about the fact that we hardly got any conversations between Rose and Jade? I do. This haunts me. This fucks me up so bad. We get plenty between John and Dave, and Dave and Jade, and Dave and Rose, and Rose and John, and Jade and John... But hardly anything between Rose and Jade!! This is so fucked up. We were robbed. I need to watch them hang out.

Okay, this is less of an Unpopular Opinion, and more of an Unpopular Fact, but... Mituna doesn't just throw slurs at people. That's one of the things people jump to when they're talking about Defanging Mituna- they always say something about how he "calls people slurs every two seconds". He literally doesn't. That is legitimately not a thing he does. If you heard that before and believed it, you were literally lied to. That is straight up demonstrably not true.

Like, if you're trying to think of something Mituna does every two seconds unprompted, it's either sex jokes or apologizing. Slurs aren't a thing he just slings around casually. He said a grand total of one slur... To Meenah... And it's a fake troll slur. And then we get it defined to us... Aaaand it's the troll equivalent to "Cracker". That's it. That's the crime he's committed- calling someone a word that is immediately after defined to us as "Someone who is at the top of and benefits from the furthering of the oppressive Fuchsia-Down power structure, and the Lowbloods that help enforce it." That's the slur he used. That's what made people start declaring that "he would totally say the N Word" with full and complete confidence. Absolutely ridiculous. He's called no one else any kind of genuine slur. He just called Meenah a Wader once, and then she and Kankri got upset about it, because they are both, by definition, Waders.

Leijon Hot Take Party Pack: If you think Nepeta shipping her friends together is fine, or even adorable, but then sneer at or get grossed out by Meulin doing the same thing, you're a hypocrite. I don't care if you say "Meulin's writing Friend Fic, though, that's weird!!" the problem with Shipping Your Friends and Writing Romantic Fanfiction Of Your Friends is at the same root.

The problem with these things isn't the presence of writing, it's the presence of, you know, shipping your friends? If you're fine with Nepeta doing it, you've gotta be fine with Meulin doing it. Be fine with both or neither. It's the same damn thing. I'm pretty sure both friend groups are fine with it, too, so it's not like this is a boundaries issue or anything. Both or neither. Pick one.

Observation: I do think it's cool how Jane and Jake are related and have similarly opposing relationships with their gender. Jake's oft presented with Feminine themes and imagery, and Jane with Masculine themes and imagery. Very cool. Wish more people made that correlation.

(Yeah more thoughts now I actually read it in human translation.)

I realize this is minor compared to He Yu later still thinking he’s as straight as a ruler while he’s preparing to fuck XQC and salivating at the prospect but this is long before fucking even occurs to him and he’s running his thumb over someone’s mouth and yet is incapable of even processing that stroking your former doctor/current enemy’s lips with your thumb’s is not a thing people do unless they are attracted...

You know what snagged my attention here? The fact that XQC feels rage. Overwhelming rage. GOOD! He should feel rage at how he is treated; he’s so buttoned down and so refuses to allow himself to feel and process things (probably because there is so much grief and rage and feeling of exhaustion and injustice) but what started as a saving mechanism is now terrible for him. I mean, this whole sequence is gonna take him apart and be horrible (hell, HY’s whole goal is for that to happen), so I am gonna take a small silver lining where I can get.

Meatbun keeps referring to HY as a dragon throughout but before it’s as if one with clipped talons etc and now he’s finally not bothering. But I love that image not just because of danger the it conveys but because it also conveys he’s not really human or with human reactions - he pretended to be and did so well, but he’s very other.

Oh my God, He Yu, if you were any gayer, you’d be the Pride Parade marshal. OMG. Seriously.

This said, “how did you find out you were gay?” “I decided to rape my former doctor and liked it” is not a coming out story one usually thinks about.

Has He Yu or anyone else in these aphrodisiac related stories never heard of masturb*tion? Your dick, drugged or not, is not gonna care if it gets to come into another person or solo. I always wonder about that.

One of the things that is the grossest about all of this (I love the novel, am intrigued by the plot, love XQC, find HY fascinating as a character because as @momoliee put it there is no safety net with him - and it’s true you never know what he’s going to do and yet his behavior is both surprising yet utterly logical for his character BUT in terms of my feelings - I seriously seriously loathe HY and need him to be locked up forever and perhaps having every bone in his body broken for a month straight) is that while a lot of this is informed by HY’s subconscious being seriously gay and lusting after XQC for years (even if HY’s conscious mind doesn’t get it), just as much or more of it is driven by the fact that consciously, he wants to break and hurt and humiliate and torture XQC as much as possible. It really is rape as tool of punishment and and control and hurt (as it usually is.) Combined with HY’s toxic views on gender roles and sexuality, it’s such a toxic dump of a mess with so much of HY’s excitement coming from the fact that having sex with a man, let alone being raped by a man with having to be the “receiver” of such attentions, is the most unbearable thing he can do to XQC and that the top is totally masculine and fine and the bottom is humiliating and gross. Once again, totally realistic for HY to think that within his character parameters but makes me want to stab him through the face.

As I said.

Also, He Yu is a huge idiot in addition to being a moral wasteland because he doesn’t even pause to think why he’s turned XQC into n1 enemy when at most, even if we take everything HY saw and thinks he saw at face value, XQC was a professional and effective physician for him for 7 years, did his job well enough but did not develop any warm feelings towards him, didn’t like him/was afraid of him due to his condition (and let’s face it, if that was the case, He Yu has richly proven XQC justified in wanting to get the hell away) and gave him platitudes he did not believe in himself but convinced HY were a good credo. Is it a disappointment? Sure. But XQC is at most 1% responsible for HY’s state and misery. Why doesn’t he seek out his terrible family, who his beef should be with? Because he’s obsessed with XQC and because he has the brains of a plank, that’s why!

Orrrrrrrr....just a thought...XQC may call the cops! Unfortunately, I am sure he won’t. But he should. Because it’s clear He Yu is in one of his fits brought on by his condition so he’s not 100% all there and if he wasn’t in that fit, he wouldn’t do this however angry or broken or deceived or whatever he felt. BUT! If someone is capable of and performs violent rape when they have a fit, they should really not allowed to be at large in society. I don’t care if it’s jail or a mental institution, but they should be locked up to protect others.

The thing is, HY is once again not thinking at all - leaving aside morality, since he has none - how about self-preservation? Let’s say XQC doesn’t report him to the cops, if HY continues on his acting out path, someone else will or even without the trail of attention and scandal will definitely attract the notice of his parents and they only put up with him due to face. They have not one iota of affection so the moment he causes issues, he’s getting put away.

But oh Good God, is MR going to be the only one of her gongs who knows what he’s doing in bed? Like, Mo Xi was terrible and now this. I never knew anyone had a kink for bad sex ahahha

I have NO idea where this story goes from here tbh. I can’t imagine HY and XQC even tolerating being in the same room together after this let alone anything else. How this will ever end up in a couple is beyond me. But I trust Meatbun forever so!

Off the top of my head for ones to search for. And that’s not counting the giant rec list of queer media you can find under my LGBTQIA tag, though since I doubt anyone will watch all of it, seriously just watch The Celluloid Closet, fuck the rest, until then you’re banned from talking to me about “representation” or “queerbait.”

Most of these kids would have perished and screamed queerbait at deadass lgbt issue movies in 2010 much less the 90s.

And we wont even try to approach the 80s. They'd call it Bury Your Gays.

After, of course, arguing for 5-10 years if some biographical gay man was gay for us not seeing penetration while screaming that he's gay, covered in glitter. Or maybe during penetration. Because some other section would say he might be demi, even if he said he’s gay, or whatever the fuck, and then some other portion of fandom would say that in (party line of thought/country) it’s not gay if the moon is full and he could still identify straight when not orgasming so it doesn’t count or that some fuckball in (random area) doesn’t get it with their 20 friends so it’s all subtext.

I can not emphasize enough how infuriating this goddamn bullshit is that shipping fandom has crafted exploitatively into their dialogue, aided by extremized talking points that have zero connection to the conversation, in a conversation so swimming with HORRIBLY appropriated socially “woke” sounding dialogue from all sides being actively abused for whatever any given jackass wants to extort out of any given conversation on any given day, bounced around by victim posing while swiping at queer creators and content, oblivious to how the queer creators they flay struggle even when the creators plea straight to them, ears plugged to how these issues pan out in outerworld: other fandoms, gay or straight. How little faith I have in a single person involved in this completely manufactured hysteria having even attended a general local low key pride event, much less any sort of organized petition or motion. No, Change.org doesn’t accomplish shit but making you feel good.

I’ve had someone say, without irony, that Bobo Berens, the LGBT author that was writing about incrementalization of moderate queer content to gain liberal platform while half of this fandom was still learning how to read, who has a wide liberal activism record be it papertrails, or handcuff trails, or the shattered glass of pre-antifa resistance long before anybody thought it was cool to put on a black mask or banana suit -- of his body thrown between immigrants and ICE caught on candid camera -- that he, this LGBT middle aged man, writing in his own demographic, which barely has a voice in this fandom -- that “talk is cheap” according to self-admittedly ignorant random (maybe LGBT?) person who is not a man on tumblr, in regards to how he writes his own demo -- and walk is better -- while the person, in the same note-breath, admitted they didn’t know where any of this began or ended, and talked about their own feelings, and that they shouldn’t have to research these things. What vainglorious narcissistic garbage has been normalized in this fandom to vindicate this modern bullshit behavior, and over what? What?

Spare your answers justifying it on reblog until you’ve read all the posts linked. Because if you come back without reading a god damn thing I can and will just slap you with a screencap of whatever you refused to read or think about while claiming you’re here for a representation battle you won’t even invest an iota of effort into beyond bellowing online about what is, summarily, preferential explicit levels, rather than simple valid canon queer text written by queer activists for queer people under shitty circumstances, that you can simultaneously recognize while hoping for more, but I guess that sounds less righteous.
