Hey; different anon here. I saw your post about Revali singing to Link, and that got me thinking: Revali singing in some cavernous place(maybe an unearthed Sheikah building, but those probably would be occupied by researchers 24/7 so idk) and Link finding him there, maybe catching him mid-practice. First, Revali trying to come up with a feasible reason why he hangs out in said place would be hilarious, and second, imagine him singing some old Rito song to Link once he promises he won't tell anyone 👀

Also: imagine all chamipons, Link and Zelda hanging out on one of the Divine Beasts and singing a song together (i am very weak to champions being a found family)

oh anon this is a fantastic idea and i got a little carried away with it. i am so sorry i basically half-wrote fanfic here omg i'm gonna put a read-more under the next paragraph 😭 i also really love the idea of the champions as a found family aaaa but i will not be able to cover that here because this post is already long enough HAHAHA i'll try to talk a bit on that in a separate post LOL i recall there being a modern revalink au where the champions are in a musical? and i believe it was by bibliomaniac! i'm gonna have to go reread it that fic was gassss omg

i would like to suggest the cave where the great hebra skeleton is as revali's super-secret-singing cave! maybe he stumbled upon it as a fledgling and promptly left screeching and running when he saw huge beastly skeleton, but later returned over the years and started using it as his secret singing practice cave. the acoustics in that place gotta be fire, fr.

i'm imagining this happening pre-calamity, but maybe link is checking out the huge hole in hebra peak with zelda (for science reasons >:] zelda is a Woman in STEM!). when they're done, zelda gets flown back down to rito village by another rito who accompanied them, but link decides to stay for a little while longer because hebra is one of the prettiest regions hands down idc! he ends up accidentally figuring out how to shield-surf down the peak completely unintentionally and i know his dumb ass face-planted into the snow LMAO. somehow, he ends up near the stone entrance where one of the doors have already been propped open... so keeping a hand ready to grab for his sword, link enters the cave 😳

but once he does actually enter, he hears a beautiful voice singing a melancholy song, their voice resonating and bouncing off of the cavern's walls and link is entranced. his guard drops immediately and he follows the song deeper into the cave, eyes wide and moving like he's possessed where he's greeted by not only a gigantic fucking leviathan skeleton and one of those shrines zelda's obsessed with, but revali, the champion of the rito and known asshole freak, being the owner of that incredible angelic voice? hylia above, revali of all people?!

but the longer that link listens, the further he falls under revali's musical spell, the rito standing on the platform lip of the shrine, a hand on his chest and his eyes shut as he sings. revali does have a very nice voice and it's making link want to sing with him, like he's meant to or something. but the longing in revali's voice keeps catching link off guard — why does he sound so sad? why does he sing like his heart aches to be with someone he can't have...?

by the time revali has finished his sorrowful song and opens his eyes, link stands before him at the steps of the shrine, his eyes still wide. for a moment, revali holds link's gaze catching his breath and doesn't actually register it's link at first, but then—

"how did you get in here?!" revali squawks, jumping back. his screech echoes across the cavern, but link doesn't flinch at all still staring at revali in awe.

"i could ask the same of you," link says breathlessly. "do you normally just hang out in caves? you know what, that's not important right now. your voice is... incredible."

revali shifts and preens under the praise, but it's still link, who of course has disrupted all his plans once more. "y-yes, well," revali stammers, "it's not as though as an extraordinary warrior such as myself couldn't be talented in music and art! the rito are natural singers, our vocal chords are practically perfectly formed for singing when we're born! why wouldn't i posses a voice fit for the heavens?" revali tosses his braids over his shoulder and points his beak upwards, but he keeps an eye trained on link, who still stares in awe and admiration. it's... quite nice to have link's attention like this. "and for your information, i do not just hang out in caves. i'm a creature of wind and sky! i simply required an isolated location that would provide the proper resonance i needed to... rehearse. and this was the perfect spot, until you came and ruined it!"

"what was that song you were singing?" link says softly, ignoring revali's harsh words. he takes a step closer and revali can't find it in him to move away. "it sounded so... sad."

revali stares at him incredulously, before sighing in resignation. link was a very stubborn person who was focused on achieving his goals, no matter what. it was... an admirable trait, in more appropriate situations than this. "it's an ancient song of the rito," revali responds, in a much softer tone than when he previously spoke. "it might be difficult for you to believe, but the rito are a people of intimacy and devotion. we aren't just warriors." revali looks back to meet link's piercing blue gaze. it could blend in with the ice that surrounds the cavern walls around the leviathan skeleton. "this song... is one of yearning, of being apart for far too long, whether it be time or space, and of wishing desperately to be by each other's side once more.

"it was originally in the ancient tongue of my ancestors, but of course time and its partner conquest have done their duties, attempting to usher in reinterpretations and translations digestible for general hyrulean dialects and muddling our sacred words in the process." link winces and stares apologetically. "don't bother with apologies now, what's done is done. the ancient rito language still lives, even if broken and battered. my ancestors never yielded to such conquests." revali looks away again and up at the great skeleton above their heads. "and it's still a proud and beautiful song, even if somber."

"it is beautiful," link agrees. then he fidgets, averting his eyes to play with his fingers. "a very beautiful song..." link still feels that aching need to sing with revali, and that song....

revali studies link's actions. "spit it out," he says. "you very clearly want to say something. did you change your mind and decided that my performance was pathetic and subpar?" revali's words are frigid, sharpened into icicles dipped in bitterness.

"no!" link's head shoots up, eyes wide in panic. "no, no, never. your voice is amazing, i really meant that! i just..." link fidgets again. "the song... is it... do you... do you do lessons?" revali blinks and link takes it as a no. "sorry, never mind, that was dumb, i—"

"with all due respect, champion link," revali cuts him off, "perhaps you should allow me a chance to respond." link shuts his mouth and nods. "what do you mean, 'lessons'?"

"would... would you teach me the song?" link says. he stares at revali with wide blue eyes, nervous but curious more than anything. it catches revali completely off-guard.

"you... want to learn it?" revali says. his tone is no longer icy and spitting, instead soft and genuinely surprised.

"yes," link whispers, eyes impossibly wider. "you said it's sad, but it sounds beautiful. i'm not the greatest singer in the world or anything, but i can appreciate a well-composed song when i hear it. so... i want to learn it, if you'll teach me."

when revali looks into link's eyes again, they're still nervous but now they're hopeful and determined and genuine and it leaves revali astonished. link, of all people, wanted to learn a song of his people? "perhaps," revali murmurs, "you aren't as incompetent and selfish as i thought you were. i could spare some time to teach you such a significant song of our culture..." link perks up, eyes sparkling— "but! under certain conditions!"

"i'll do anything," link agrees immediately. that surprises revali too, but he masks it as he stares at link.

"i will not have you sullying my name and image as a champion," revali says, "and so you will not speak of this to anyone. you won't tell anyone about this encounter, this place, that i'm teaching you this song, that i sing at all — this will remain strictly between you and me, understand?" and link nods right away, maintaining his intense blue-eyed gaze. "...good." revali shakes his crest feathers out reflexively. "i'm finished for this session, but if your desire to learn this song manages to survive the night, you will find me here again at dawn."

"then i'll see you tomorrow morning," link says breathlessly, beginning to grin. "thank you, revali... i'm genuinely grateful."

"rightfully so," revali preens. "you'll be learning only from the best. now let us return to the village, before the princess thinks you've abandoned your duties and disappeared into the wilderness."

when they step outside of the cavern, the sun is beginning to reach for its bed under the horizon, the sky above them glowing in soft shades of pink and orange and light sheets of snow fall gently around them. link gasps softly at the scenery — hebra truly is one of the most beautiful regions in hyrule. revali snorts at the little hylian's wonder but his chest swells with pride for his home.

as he raises his wings to gather updraft, revali realizes that link doesn't really have any other methods of returning to the village. he doesn't even know how link got here in the first place, but if he were to walk all the way back to the village from here, he might as well just leave himself for dead. the hebra mountains were beautiful, yes, but they were incredibly dangerous for anyone who wasn't prepared or familiar with the terrain. and so revali takes a breath to gather his pride and ask...

"do... do you want me to take you back to the village?" revali mumbles, averting his eyes. link turns to look back at him, his eyes wide. "simply out of necessity, of course. a flightless, featherless thing like yourself couldn't possibly make it back to the village on your own and return by dawn. it would be a death sentence!" revali's feathers begin to ruffle as he continues to talk— "the princess would have my head if i didn't ensure your safety, as i'm practically responsible for it if we're out here together."

"i'd like that," link murmurs, his gaze softening. revali looks back at him and his feathers rise. "thank you, revali."

"yes, well, i'm sure you would," revali stutters, "i'd provide the smoothest and most comfortable ride out of all the rito!" revali turns away, trying to subtly pat down his feathers, and crosses his arms. "now, get on my back, we're losing light! i don't want to fly when it gets dark. i won't be able to see a thing..."

link smiles at him and revali's chest expands and swirls, a strange feeling he can't quite recognize yet. the little hylian does as revali says and clambers onto his back, holding onto revali's shoulders. "hold on tight, my gale is quite powerful now, you know. i won't spare you any time to catch you if you fall." (a lie, not that link needs to know.) and with that, revali crouches and gather wind under his wings, before bursting upwards into the sky.

link's arms tighten around his shoulders and chest, whooping and gasping from the cold air as they rise. as they fly back to rito village, revali wonders how link will be able to make it to the cave in the morning. should he offer to take link there? would link even say yes? he doesn't know. all revali can focus on is the feeling of link's arms tight around his chest and his warm breath in his ear as they fly back to the village.

what an interesting turn of events, revali thinks, who would've thought that this is what we would become, that you would want to learn a song in the tongue of my people. that's too likeable of you, link. how shall i maintain our rivalry now?

OMG OFC 🫶🫶 here's a couple snippets from that au since I'm too lazy to write an actual fic for it 🙏

actually the first year they both auditioned for the hip hop competition team, they were both rejected because they had spent the whole audition side-eying each other and when they were put in the same freestyle group, they got all up in each other's faces and were too focused on trying to outdo each other to really pay attention to the actual audition. so the director rejected both of them, saying they needed to get whatever rivalry they had under control because everyone on the team needs to be able to work together and support one another

(what the director didn't know was that this had been an ongoing rivalry for years. they had first met at a walk-in kpop dance workshop, and when it became clear that the two were the top dancers in the class, revali felt the need to prove that he was the superior dancer, meanwhile link was annoyed at this guy who was obnoxiously bragging about his dancing and his kpop dance cover channel on youtube, so he decided to quietly make passive-aggressive remarks about how people who think kpop dance is real dance are dumb.)

(when they both got home that night, they absolutely googled each other. link found revali's dance account and did NOT subscribe thank you very much (but he did watch all of his covers to privately critique them). revali found link's contemporary dance portfolio and bookmarked it to his browser so he could watch all the videos)

(two months later, link decides to attend a hip hop combo class at the studio near him, and you'll never guess who he sees there: yeah it's revali. in the last 20 minutes of class when everyone gets split into groups to record the dance, surprise surprise: revali and link are in a group together. the two go full out and by the end they're both sweaty, and frustrated at being equally matched at the dance. they both come back to this class every week.)

anyways, revali is super pissed at being rejected from the team and link is frustrated that this self-absorbed idiot cost him the spot on the team. but the words of the director echo in the back of their minds, and by the time auditions roll around again, they manage to keep their cool and are both accepted onto the team. during the competition classes they are professionally cool to one another, but without that outlet to vent their frustrations at each other, their rivalry in the combo classes get much more heated

we talked a little bit already about them being assigned a duet for competition, and them practicing and falling over each other and spending late nights at the studio freestyling 🤭 I imagine at some point during one of these practice sessions (after they've warmed up to each other a little bit), as they're taking a break, link turns on that that by psy and just starts dancing to it for funsies. and revali looks at him with disbelief but then snorts in amusement, pushes himself off the floor where he had been sitting by the mirror, and joins link in the dance since ofc he knows the dance too ✋

and it turns into a bit of a game, they take turns playing increasingly obscure kpop songs to see if the other knows the dance for it, and if not they just start making up a dance for it. and omg at one point they turn on love dive by ive and they both know it and so at that part right before the chorus with the point and body roll, they even do it in formation facing each other, and it makes link blush and throws revali off beat a little AJDBAKDN

anyways after that link invites revali to go with him to an annual random dance play event that he attends every year, and it's their first date!! 🥺🥺 (not really. revali will adamantly deny that it was a date to anyone that listens. but later when they start dating he'll look back on that time and his eyes will go all soft as he remembers what it was like to share his love of kpop and dancing with someone that understands the level of passion he has for both of them)

after they start dating, they decide to compete in a kpop dance cover competition together! they do guerrilla by ateez which I'm ngl y'all it's an incredibly difficult and tiring dance, which means it's perfect for the two of them 🥰🙏 they win first place ofc, the judges are impressed by their synchrony and stage presence and chemistry with each other! they're so ecstatic, revali picks link up on stage and twirls him around a little as they're both absorbed in their own little world with eyes only for each other (someone records and posts this to tik tok, which immediately goes viral with ppl commenting "me and who??😭✋" and "if I don't have what they do then I don't want it")

this would be hard to do as a duet since there's so many dancers in it, so I would imagine they would try to get their competition team to do this with them, but I NEED revalink to cover btbt by bi because the dance for it is SOO GOOD I'm begging y'all to watch it immediately

BOTW YOUTUBERS AU

Okay I had an idea:

The Champions are all famous youtubers specialized in different areas.

Revali: Skincare/makeup/fashion/other grooming. Prideful and a little snarky yet somehow the kind of sassy/shady you can’t help but sort of admire. He tells things as the are, no holds barred. A bit prissy. An impressive vocabulary.

Urbosa: Pro-athlete trainer who began running gym tutorials on youtube about the correct form for different weight exercises and other fitness tips. Intensely knowledgeable. Kind but scathing towards other fitness youtubers who give bad/harmful information. It’s a male-dominated area of of the site but she puts these men in their PLACE. (which is below her lol)

Mipha: Focused on ‘wellness’. Started off with recording soothing yoga videos  Then she started doing more and more ‘5 minutes of positivity’ type things. She’s got such a gentle energy though so she could narrate paint drying and it would somehow make you feel relaxed. Her brother Sidon is the cameraman who gets more and more personally involved with her videos thoughout her channel’s life and she gets him to do things like bake with her or go to cute tea shops. Her fans are all in love with him and how supportive and optimistic he is (and muscle-y/model-like lol). They’re adorable.

Daruk: Speaking of adorable family stuff, Daruk started as a guest on Yunobo’s tiny gaming channel but the ‘playing ___ game with my uncle Daruk’ series BLEW UP. People love the loud himbo uncle who doesn’t really understand video games but is his doing his best. Yunobo is a good foil to his loud boisterousness and is patient in explaining video game topics and fanasty/scifi tropes. They also have an ongoing DND campaign.

Zelda: She runs a student life/study-centric channel. It includes study playlists and radios that she curates herself and a wide range of study tricks and tips for different types of learners. 

Link: MUCH Less famous but had a sudden burst in popularity. Outdoorsy/survivalist boy. He likes to go out and forage his dinner and cooks whatever he finds with just a cookpan and a campfire. Everything he makes looks sort of decadent. He’s rather stoic and doesn’t talk much even on video which makes him a bit of an oddity. His channel kind of feels like he’s not REALLY trying but the stuff he does is so unique he has a small following anyway.

This is Link’s first year invited to the Hyrule Convention where he will meet some of the others.

Because anything I think of naturally has a Revalink slant, maybe Revali is caught on some random convention-goer’s camera talking down to Link and it gets people angry. To save face with his fans and sponsors, he invites Link onto his channel for a ‘complete makeover’ episode because he clearly (in his humble opinion) needs it having gone to the convention in a Baja hoodie of all things!.

Link afterwards invites him to partake in one of his trademark field meals and Revali ruefully agrees. He is surprised when he gets there to find out Link doesn’t plan on filming it. (Which is insane because Revali is so much more famous and it would bring so much clout to his little channel) (not to mention he had assumed this was some sort of revenge plot to make him look silly or give him a villain’s edit)

hard to pin down as a generalization, because it's circumstantial between the two of them imo

but revali is very thoughtful and methodical to me. i just reviewed his diary and the cb memory, and it's clear that his dedication to the craft warrants a lot of strategy, perseverance, and patience. he can be incredibly patient for the things that matter most to him

that being said, both revali and link will have a breakdown trying to assemble a single chair from ikea. they insist that the furniture is cursed but zelda assembles it in less than five minutes

to me, revali seems like he would enjoy classical music, and classic pop & rock in general. anything before the 2000's, revali can get into

projecting a portion of my own music taste onto revali, he fucks with songs like 'stitches and burns' by fra lippo lippi, 'i melt with you' by modern english, and 'true' by spandau ballet. i will not be taking any criticism at this time 🙏

meanwhile link's playlist is jumping from 'good lookin'' dixon dallas to 'planet of the bass' to 'ETA' newjeans. and he finds all of it unironically genius

who's the first one to quit a new hobby because they're not great at it on the first try?

my instinct was to say revali, but the thing is, revali holds a great insecurity in wanting to be the best, and it's difficult to do that when you're dating Mr. Link Master-At-Everything-He-Tries over here

revali is more outspoken and quick to speak, he's confidently opinionated and will mansplain to you unfortunately. he's not afraid to tell you what he thinks, because he thinks he's always right. very much the type to tell you he's just being brutally honest as an excuse to a dick skjdhfkdj

link is soft-spoken, reserved, and a listener, he'll let you take the lead on the conversation or listen you out completely before saying anything.

as such, revali is the one berating the cashier for putting pickles on link's burger when he said he didn't want any 😹

and honestly? link just likes hearing revali's voice, so he's content with letting revali talk his head off as long as they get to cuddle or hold hands.

I guess I've grown to love that one chapter in BAB that's just a long-distance text /call convo between Link and Revali. You know, where Link committed several acts of arson in the background. Idk it just feels fun. There's also a HUGE hint about Link buried in there that gives me enjoyment. The kinda hint that if someone re-reads when this fic is done they'll be like "OH." (There's so so so many of them)

‘So… I uh’

That was it. The entirety of the text. Revali waited at his phone, expecting more to follow. For a while nothing came. Then, there was a simple, ‘Nevermind.’

Revali threw his hands up to the sky in exasperation. FINE.

He put his phone down and walked away. Then immediately walked back. Not ‘fine’. Now he was dangerously curious.

‘What?’ He texted back.

There was a pause just long enough that he assumed he wasn’t going to get an answer. Link was an insanely fast typer so ordinarily if the reply wasn’t immediate, he was likely busy.

‘I might have gotten suspended today.’

Revali balked.

‘WHAT. DID. YOU. DO.’

‘I might have… set the campus green on fire.’

Without a second thought, he called him immediately.

“GODDESSDAMN YOU AND YOUR GODDESS DAMNED FIRES! HOW? HOW DO YOU KEEP DOING THAT?!!”

There was a strange wind sound.

It was getting louder and louder and was oddly irregular. “What are you in wind tunnel or something?” He finally asked. “What is that infernal racket?!”

The wind changed into a more vocal, stifled laugh. Link was laughing. “WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING IDIOT? YOU SHOULD BE FEELING BAD RIGHT NOW!” He screamed into the speaker. Honestly.

There was a ping on his phone and he looked down, pulling away just enough to read the screen.

‘Did you seriously just call a guy who can’t talk to one-sidedly yell at him?’
