Patrick Jane x reader - smile

Hi!◝(ᵔᵕᵔ)◜ I was wondering if you would be able to write a Patrick Jane (The Mentalist) x Reader with this prompt “She never smiles…” “you’ve never seen her looking at you then.” with Patrick saying the first part? Of course you don't have to if you don't want to!⸜( > ᴗ <)⸝♡ - Anon💜

He’d been fascinated by you, usually Jane could predict what people were going to do but with you it was harder.

He could get a read of you like everybody else, if you were having a good day, a bad day, things like that, but when it came to guessing your next move you always kept him on his toes.

Nothing was as simple as it seemed either you.

Walking over to your desk, Jane set you down your favourite coffee and beamed brightly at you as you looked up at him.

“What’s this for?” You asked.

“You’ve been busy all morning, you haven’t had your daily coffee yet.”

You took a sip of the coffee, nodding your head as you stood up, grabbing a couple of files.

“Thanks Jane, I’ve got a meeting but I’ll be back in an hour or so for our game of chess.”

He smiled softly, watching as you walked down the hallway.

Then he frowned a little bit, sitting down in your chair as he looked through your desk.

Most of the time you kept books or games for him in there to keep him from getting too bored, and finally he found what he was looking for, and he started going through the books.

“It’s illegal to go through a federal agents desk Jane.”

He looked up at Rigsby.

“I’m looking for a book, but I do have a question for you.”

Rigsby gave a small nod of his head, leaning against the desk behind him.

“Have you ever made (Y/N) smile?”

Rigsby thought for a moment, then he finally shook his head.

“No, I don’t think anybody has.”

Jane nodded his head, getting his book and stood up, making his way over to his couch.

He’d tried a lot to get you to smile, getting you your favourite things, playing small jokes on you, showing you photos of baby animals because everybody loved them.

But you didn’t smile.

He wouldn’t say you were emotionless, you had great control over your emotions, but he did recall them all saying you used to be an undercover agent.

When you came back from your meeting, you came back with Lisbon, and she walked over to him while you walked over to your desk.

Jane studied you as you spoke with Grace and Choi.

“She never smiles…” He mumbled.

Jane looked up at Lisbon.

“You’ve never seen her looking at you then.” She smiled.

With that, she left, and he went back to reading.

As evening came around, you weren’t getting ready to go home when you noticed him sitting ready.

You smiled a little bit, and began packing your things again, only turning around when you were done and you found him stood in front of you.

The little smile quickly fell as you took a few steps back.

“Jeez Jane, you can’t be sneaking up on people it’s how you get hurt.”

He grinned a little.

“You smiled at me!” He beamed.

“I didn’t..” you grumbled.

You brushed past him as he quickly followed you.

“You have a really beautiful smile.” He said softly.

You smiled a little bit more, and you looked at him, which made him grin brightly to see you smiling directly at him

@FYODOR: “can you come here for a moment? i have something i’d like to share with you.”

for someone so dangerous, fyodor looked extremely innocent right now. there’s a knitted blanket draped across his shoulders and a sweater a size too big hanging off his lithe frame. he cradles a book in his hands, face relaxed as he reads the last few pages.

it’s so dreamy in his little room; the comforting glow of the setting sun highlights the sharp edges of his face, and the soft classical music he insists on playing floats through the air.

“is there something wrong, my dear? you’ve been staring for an awfully long time.”

you blink out of your daze. “i wasn’t staring,” you mumble, grabbing his hand and jolting at how freezing it is. “how do you manage to be so cold when you’re bundled up like this?” you hold it in your lap, tracing along the tendons that are visible on his thin hands.

“i’m simply used to it.” he closes the book, ignoring the way you changed the subject so quickly.

you settle to intertwine your fingers with his. “what did you want to show me?”

he raises his arms, leaving his lap completely open, and you know exactly what he’s asking. you lay your head on his thighs, looking up at him with such soft eyes that he can’t help but kiss you, the lingering taste of black tea seeping into your senses.

“i just finished middlemarch by george eliot. have you read it before?” you shake your head. “i think you’d enjoy it…humor me, will you? read it and annotate it. i know you have all those highlighters and pens and things you like to mark up your books with.”

“you know i do that?”

“of course. it’s adorable,” he lifts your hand to place the book in your grip, giving the cover a little pat. “i’d like to read it again once you’re done.”

“really?” you hug it tighter to your chest. “it looks long. won’t it bore you to read the same book twice?”

“your thoughts are far more entertaining to me than any piece of literature,” he smiles, moving his hand to rest on the crown of your head. “but first…can we stay like this for a few moments longer? you’re so warm.”

I think I went insanely overboard with these answers omg so I'm putting them under the cut :')

🐼 – what’s the silliest nickname(s) you have for each other?

I think we're both pretty non silly when it comes to petnames/nicknames, so the sillest names we call eachother probably aren't even that silly ahah

I love to call levi sweetie, so when I'm teasing him or trying to get his attention I call him my sweetie pie and I always find that his head snaps in my direction aksksjs he looks at me like I've lost it, (I do kinda like it though, so I'm not going to stop) also I called him my honey bun once and... I don't think I've ever seen him react like that for anything else, ever

also, this is not so silly, but I love to call him my angel, I love how red his face gets, and sometimes he tuts and rolls his eyes but eeee I know he loves it so much:((

the most outlandish and silly name levi calls me is probably wifey, and he uses so sparesly that I have to physically stop myself from reacting when he says it bec I don't want him to get shy or embarrassed about it, even though I love it so much

💘 – how do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

if we both have a free day then we spend the whole day together tehe. we'll have a small lie in, this is one of the very rare occasions levi let's me keep him in bed in the morning, and we'll get up about 10/10.30am, after having cuddles (and most likely some mornings kisses...) I usually try to make him breakfast in bed, but he can't bare to sit in the bedroom on his own while I make it, so he usually joins me in the kitchen after about 10 minutes--he'll have his adorable dressing gown and slippers on and I absolutely love the sight. he'll make us coffee while I make us food hehe. I love a chill day though so we'll spend most of the day watching some tv, a couple movies or some episodes of our current show, and we'll snack throughout the day, somehow missing lunch bec we're too full 🫣🫣 Levi will also insist on us going out for a walk around the park, just for some fresh air, and I love to drag him to all the shops I can while we're out so I can browse all the cute valentine stuff (he usually ends up buying me a couple extra gifts bec he's the cutest ever)

we'll ofc have dinner together at the end of the day, but if our january is busy and chaotic and we're both feeling stressed and tired then we'll order a takeaway and eat it at home--Levi will set up the dinner table with candles and the fresh bouquet of flowers he got me, and we'll put on some nice music and eat and chat together. but if we both feel up to it then we'll go out for dinner! usually just to our favourite date restaurant, but we always try to order some fancy, new dessert to try!

and if we're both busy during the day because of work(which unfortunately is a fairly common occurrence for our valentine's) then we'll just have a nice dinner together--takeaway or eating at a restaurant, same as above.

🍼 – want any kids? how many?

we do want kids! but I don't think I'm anywhere near ready right now, and so every time I think about kids I get really scared and freaked out, but if we were to have kids, years in the future probably, I think I'd like to have two. every time I imagine levi as a dad I just get such a warm feeling, he's the most patient and calm man whenever he's with children, and when I see him talking and playing with my little cousins it makes me insanely happy.

levi had never really thought about kids until we were about 2 years into our relationship, but we've had many discussions about kids, and we're always keeping the other updated about our thoughts. in our chats Levi's said that if we had kids he'd want two, or three.

🎟️ – do you go to live entertainment together (concerts, plays, etc.)?

I am obsessed with concerts, I love them so so much, but levi is not much of a fan of big arenas or stadium concerts, so if we go to one together we usually stick to a small venue. he loves coming with me though, and seeing me so happy and comfortable in that environment, but theres not a big overlap in our styles of music, so if we go together, he usually just goes for me, and to watch over me hehe

we very occasionally go to the theatre together, if there's good performances happening close to us! levi doesn't like to travel too far just for a couple of hours, so if he really wants to see a play then we make a whole trip out of it and we'll stay 2 or 3 nights

Hello again!! Saw your response to my last ask and uhhh guess I’m getting kinda predictable huh 😅? I’m sorry if it bothers or annoys you, I just like consistent communication with the people I like so like I always try to do that cause reassurance is important to me so I want the other person to feel reassured too you know? But if it’s too much let me know and I’ll dial it down promise!! Your works hitting over 200 notes is an amazing accomplishment you should be so proud of yourself and if you’re not pls know that I am. Running a blog isn’t easy, much less maintaining and putting out such amazing works. I’m glad you’re feeling better!! And yeah writing blocks are so annoying but I feel that once you hit that stride, you start running and can’t stop. If that makes sense? It’s what I’ve gone through with my experience anyways. Tbh I’ve been better. Life isn’t the best rn and I’m super busy and drained atm. I’m pretty sure it’s burnout but I’ll manage somehow. Also my favorite character is Bachira but like almost every other character ties for second so like 💀. I swear I’m like this with every show/series. I end up with my favorite character and then there’s everyone else it’s always so hard to choose like I love all my babies adhkkghkhhh. Anyways it’s always so fun to talk to you I can’t wait to read the next part of my tears your company but obv take your time. Oh no, I'm sorry that you feel burntout :'< ; cause this was literally me a week ago. Everytime I have a burnout its cause of everything that is going on and its too much to handle sometimes so I kept telling myself three things :
