Excuse my chipped nail polish! This is my oldest pet spider, named Subway because I found him hanging out on a Subway bag when he was a baby. This is my first time holding him since he was a baby and he quickly found a comfy spot and started grooming, which is what you see here! I’m fairly sure he is a Sassacus vitis, which don’t have a common name as far as I know but I’ve seen called Grape Spiders, Leaf-Beetle Spiders, Buttonhook Leaf-Beetle Spider.
@cavalier-renegade submitted: Iridescent gold jumping spider I found on my car’s hood in the California Bay Area. The first photo is a higher quality image of the same species taken by John Roper. I think the species is Sassacus Vitis?
Thank you for including the clearer photo for ID purposes but I can't legally share it! Agreed though it looks like a buttonhook leaf-beetle jumping spider, Sassacus vitis :)
@pravum-vulpes-umbra-imperatrix submitted: This Jumping Spider on a 🌻 was recorded in San Diego, CA. Can you possibly identify which species it is?.. (*Btw this is a old video from my old Google Pixel phone, so sorry if it's not the greatest quality. 😅)
As far as I can tell it looks like a female buttonhook leaf beetle jumping spider, Sassacus vitis. She is...extremely small and cute 🥺
Who is this tiny big headed silver baby in South Florida? What a cutie
Hmmm looks to me like it could be either a hammer-jawed jumping spider, Zygoballus rufipes, or a buttonhook leaf-beetle jumping spider, Sassacus vitis. They have super similar body shapes and both can be metallic-looking. Definitely hard to ID when they’re so dang tiny! Love this lil dude though
