Headcanon A (realistic): The reason Shin could hack through Asunaro’s security in chapter 2 is because Hiyori already had him familiar with the organization’s systems. Why Hiyori taught him programming in the first place is still a bit of a mystery, but I do enjoy thinking he let Shin get a little too close to finding out the true face of Asunaro.

Headcanon B (hilarious): While it's easy to take one look at AI Shin and baby-ify Shin's younger self, I personally think it would be funny if as a teenager he was a gross anime obsessed pervert. That archetype of the guy who is on his computer a little too much and socializes too little with actual human beings so he starts getting weird ideas in his head. One thing admiring Hiyori did for him (not Hiyori himself doing for him) is providing Shin with a role model for some more publicly presentable behavior. lol

Headcanon C (feelsy): Pretty much everything about Shin can be emotional if you think about him too long. One I dont think about as often anymore but is still touching is the headcanon that Shin was going to go to college or was already in college when Hiyori disappeared. Suddenly he couldn’t focus on exams and suddenly he had to pay for everything on his own since he may have moved out of his parents place to live with Hiyori. Shin having dreams for the future he felt like Hiyori could have helped support him through, not knowing Hiyori never expected him to have a future statistically speaking, and for all those dreams to come crashing down.

Shin had his future stolen from him, we have a decent idea of how Shin feels regarding Hiyori’s actions, but I feel like there could be more fan content about how Shin and Alice would feel about the ripple effect of Alice’s mistake. Alice is really admirable for considering the feelings of not only the “victim” of his case but how the consequences of what happened that day could effect the people who are indirectly involved.

Headcanon D (unrealistic): Hiyori has taken Shin to a Yabusame concert, a Qtaro baseball game, a Naomichi boxing match, and even swung by Mai’s backery or even seen Anzu’s clown act. If Shin has any recollection of seeing these people before it just sticks in his mind that (most of them) have big public personas. Because at the time Hiyori didn’t act in any way that signaled them being important, so Shin only thought about Hiyori wanting to get him to try a bunch of different experiences in the moment. Shin had no idea Hiyori was so into sports! Getting to know his mysterious friend a little bit.... kind of cool <:0 (Hiyori you liar >:0!)

All yttd character name meanings cause I haven't posted on here in forever, long post lolz

Most of this taken from wiki

Beware of spoilers lol, I'll add my own personal notes about the name

Sara-> Sa meaning "(silk) gauze; gossamer" and Ra means "good; pleasing; skilled".

The Hebrew meaning for Sara means "princess/noble women" which is pretty fitting as she has the highest winning rate

Chidouin-> Chi "one thousand", Dou "shrine hall" and In "institution"

Jou-> "length; height"

Note that nankidai said that Jou's name originated from the line "stand up Joe!" From the manga "Ashita no Joe"

Joe isn't really a westernized version of Jou in yttd as vgperson states that both names are used in the source material, the name Joe is used in a more causal manner.

Tazuna-> ta "rice field" zuna "rope; cable"

Kazumi-> Kazu "peace" Mi "oneself"

Mishima-> Mi "three" Shima "island"

I think the island mightve been possible referencing how Mishima would be the first protagonist of your time to shine island existence. Could be just a coincidence though

Kai-> Kai "precept"

Satou- Sa "assistant; help" and Tou "wisteria"

Note that Kai also means shellfish (hence the "kain you believe it" surrounded by shellfish in his laptop) but Kai's name uses different Kanji from the shellfish one.

Alice-> his name is most likely a reference to the band "Alice in chains", since he is a man named Alice who is in chains. The German name Alice means "noble"

Yabusame-> ya "eight", bu "currency" and same "rain"

Reko-> re "waterway" ko "child"

Yabusame-> Ya "eight" Bu "currency" and Same "rain"

Note that her name was spelled as "Reco" but since C isn't really pronounced in the Japanese language, it later on got canonized to be "Reko" and "Reco" was used for her stage name.

Notes: I can’t believe it took me this long to write for Your Turn To Die/Kimi Ga Shine. I really like that game. I really like Nao, I really like Reko, I really like NaoReko. Hopefully I’ll write better stuff in the future.

It was an especially unremarkable funeral all around. Private, unsurprisingly, with little said as they went through the motions. It wasn’t even gray out. Sunny, but not too warm. Lukewarm weather—perfect for the occasion, some would say.

After all, that Alice even got a fraction of the usual ceremony was generous. Truth be told, she wouldn’t be surprised if her parents were glad that he was gone. Less shame on the family. One less murderer in the world.

She lets him get buried with her bongos, and that’s the extent of good will she can muster. To show more than that will just make the matter a hassle, and haven’t they all been through enough?

“Well,” Reko mutters to her brother’s grave, fingers tracing the engravement of his name. “Can’t say I’m exactly relieved things turned out like this.”

Her parents had long left. They offered to take her out to dinner, of course, but she lied and said she already ate. She didn’t plan on telling them she’d like to stay with Alice a bit longer. She’s not exactly looking to get pity or sympathy—especially from them.

Should I at least tell the old band members? She wondered, arms crossed over her chest, lips pursed. She felt uncomfortable in her funeral dress. She felt uncomfortable with her hair neatly combed down instead of styled. She felt uncomfortable with an unpainted face.

Her brother was gone and she had to wish him off in a form completely alien. He wouldn’t have recognized her. She barely recognized herself.

“Dammit, Alice.”

She wanted to kick at the grave. Something about it pissed her off. Maybe she should’ve brought incense to burn. Maybe that would’ve calmed her down. As if those traditions were for the sake of the living.

Aren’t they, though? It’s not like the dead can appreciate them.

Besides, Alice hated both flowers and incense. Because he was both allergic and sensitive. So lame.

“So lame,” she whispered, brushing her hair back. “Dying is a burden only the living can carry, y’know. Just what the hell were you thinking? Taking someone’s life only to lose your own...” She had to swallow down a hard lump and her eyes burn. “Didn’t you consider us at all? You fucking asshole.”

She had half a mind to kick his stupid grave. He wouldn’t even get mad at her for it. Alice knew how much he pissed them all off with his crimes and he still, and he still—

“You wanted to reconcile, didn’t you? You wanted to be forgiven, right?” Her breath hitched. “How the fuck can that happen now that you’re gone?!”

Rather than lashing out, Reko finally fell down to her knees, trembling in the crisp spring air. The season of rebirth and her murdering asshole brother was dead. How the hell was that for irony? She had half a mind to scream about it.

“Urgh...”

Tears were blurring her vision now and it really was so, so goddamn lame. Like all Alice had really been good for was breaking her heart. As if there hadn’t been any good memories when the two were kids...when the two played together. She had already mourned that brother years ago. Her parents had been understanding then, and she wonders if anyone would understand now. There’s one less murderer in the world—that’s a good thing, isn’t it?

And yet, it fucking hurts. Because it had to be Alice.

Because it was Alice, because she had been hurt by him enough already, Reko just let herself cry it out again. All the same tears of anguish and frustration. Of betrayal and anger. Of shame. Of regret. All over again, like a shitty song on repeat. She cried and cried into her hands, curled up on the ground before her brother’s grave, letting herself mourn like a normal person because she at least deserved that.

It wasn’t cathartic in the way she hoped it would be. Several minutes later, her face felt grossly swollen. Even after crying herself dry, she was still trembling with grief. Alice really knew how to wreck everything from their family to her composure. She almost wished she didn’t miss him. But she did. She’s just replaying all their good times in her head, wondering where the hell it all went wrong.

Why’d you even kill that guy, Alice? You never told me why. I never pressed because what mattered more was what you did than why you did it but—should I have?

And now she’ll never get to.

“U-Um...”

Reko isn’t surprised that someone felt the need to check on her. She’s not even mad, given that it sounds like a worried girl and she’s not sure how long she’s been curled up on the ground. She’d be real fucking concerned, too.

Dammit. How uncool.

She already gave all her tissue to her parents. Fuck. But, when she pushes herself up, a shaky hand is offering her a handkerchief.

“H-Here,” the girl holding it stammers, shaking even more when Reko got a good look at her. “Y-You look like you need this...”

She’s—almost obscenely cute, with a frantic, bug-eyed expression and long, wild red hair pulled back into a ponytail. She looked a few years younger, so being found like this by her was even more flustering.

“No, I...” Swallowing, Reko tried to subtly wipe her nose. She winced when she ended up sniffling. “I’m fine. I think I got it all out.”

The latter was at least true. She was cried out, but she still kind of wanted to cover her face.

“Y-You most certainly are not fine!” the girl exclaimed because she wasn’t stupid. But to Reko’s surprise, rather than insisting, the young woman took the initiative and scrubbed Reko’s face with the handkerchief herself. “Y-You were crying for a good ten minutes...! And given the way you dressed, you must have just stood through a funeral! There’s no way you’re fine!”

It was pretty clumsy, the way she tried to wipe down Reko’s tearstained cheeks, but it wasn’t rough. Shakiness and pushiness aside, the gesture was as gentle as it could be. So, she just allowed it before the girl yelped and would’ve dropped the handkerchief had Reko not caught it.

“S-Sorry,” she stammered. “I, um, I got completely carried away... Um...”

“It’s fine,” Reko couldn’t help but laugh. Actually laugh, when her damn murdering brother’s grave was so close to her back. “I was being stubborn. You’re right. I’m not fine.”

“Um... It’s still uncalled for to be like that with someone I don’t even know,” she pointed out meekly. “Sorry. I’m really sorry...”

“Reko.”

She perked up, bug-eyed once more.

“My name’s Reko. Yabusame Reko. There. Now you know me.” Reko blew her nose on the handkerchief. “So, it’s cool, right?”

“C-Cool... I’m Egokoro Nao. Nice to...meet you...”

Nao wasn’t meeting her eyes, cheeks burning pink, but she kept on talking.

“I got so overzealous because... I lost someone recently, too. M-My professor... He was...instrumental to who I am today.”

“Yeah, my brother’s the same,” Reko said, smiling sardonically. Because it still hurt, she did have to ask. “Was this professor a good guy?”

“T-The best! Mishima-sensei had a scary face, but he was such a wonderful person! Super radiant!” Nao exclaimed with such passion. “He was a really, really good guy! H-He... He shouldn’t have died...! Wah...!”

“Ah...” But before Reko can offer the handkerchief back, Nao whipped out another and blew her nose, wailing into it.

“Professor was so nice—! W-Way too nice!” She sniffled, tears welling up. “S-So nice... He... He even protected me...”

Nao was wearing long baggy sleeves. When one of them fluttered down, Reko saw burn scars marring her pale arm.

Fuck.

“He was a hero, huh?”

“Yes, he was! Uu. B-But. S-Sorry, sorry, that was a year ago,” Nao stammered. “H-How, um...how was your brother? W-Was he also a good guy?”

“He was...” I don’t want to talk about him right now. It’s much easier to comfort her than to talk about him. “Complicated. We had good times, though. Hey, let’s sit down.”

She patted Nao’s shoulder, pausing for a moment before brushing away the beginning trickles of tears from Nao’s ruddy face. Her cheeks only got redder than her hair.

“R-Reko, you’re really cool,” she murmured. “A-And I was the one who approached you first...”

“As far as I’m concerned, that makes you way cooler.”

“Wah—!” Geez, any redder and this girl would burst into steam. At least she was cute. Painfully cute. Alice would’ve liked her. Reko already does. Maybe too much for a first meeting.

“Let’s talk a little more, Nao,” she says, and she hopes it doesn’t sound like begging. “I think—we’d get along pretty well, yeah? There’s not much to say about my brother...but I wouldn’t mind hearing about your professor.”

“Okay, but I do want to get to know you better, then, in that case,” Nao replied, looking so adorably serious. “I-If you don’t mind, Reko.”

Reko couldn’t help but grin, ever gentle as she ushered Nao away, further and further from Alice’s grave.

“Nah, I don’t mind at all. I can tell you a few things. Like how this isn’t my normal face.”

“I-It’s not?!”

She laughed again, and maybe her laughter carried to her brother. Maybe it didn’t. She had an uncomfortable feeling that Alice would be happy to see her getting along with someone else like this—but for her own sake, maybe that was fine.

Maybe that was just fine.

Feelings about YTTD characters up until ch2 [long rant]

Spoilers will be marked like this: spoilers.

So like OBVIOUSLY spoiler warning. I haven’t gotten into chapter 3 yet because I finished ch2 at like 2am and I had online school the next day and all my emotional stamina was something more like emotional stamiNO

Let’s start by talking about characters!!!

Keiji Shinogi

So...can you guess who’s my favorite...? If you guessed Keiji you are absolutely correct. I said this on insta but he could snap me like a twig if he wanted, and I’m NOT joking.

At the start I was very worried that he’d be a bad guy, but I very quickly fell in love with him (and yeah, it did help that he’s pretty hot shut up).

He’s just...so fuxking sweet? He just cares so much about you, has been very helpful and honestly he ended up being the most trustworthy. This game has been NERVE wrecking and his encouragement throughout the chapters and the choices really helped me...he’s just amazing, I have NO words to express how much I love him <333

If he dies I will die with him, probably from crying.

Not to mention that his backstory and trauma...it broke my heart seeing him so down and I really wanted to comfort him at that moment. But what REALLY broke my heart was how careful and worried he was about you during your hallucinations, even though he was also having quite a hard time with his own demons...

Sou Hiyori (Shin Tsumuki)

...or should I say Shin Tsumiki? Oh God, the beanie man...

I honestly don’t don’t know how exactly to feel about him. Since I am into Danganronpa, I did come across Yttd memes and I had already seen all of the Kokichi comparisons and such. That’s why I expected lots of lies, tomfoolery and overall rat-ness. And well...yeah that’s what I got pretty much! Even though he annoyed me greatly the moment the bs happened, I can’t help but be interested and fond of him...after all his love and care for Kanna was quite apparent, and I felt like he really went through changes and slowly opened up...

I was really stumped on what to do when the final voting time came on the second main game. I didn’t want to kill Shin because as I said, I am fond of him. Not to mention I was so impressed by his abilities and what he had to offer and I really wanted to see more of him...! However, after abusing the multiple save files and seeing the outcomes of all the voting options I decided I’d kill him off. The logic route was just too cruel for both him and Sara. Him having to live with the survivors guild and his hatred of Sara not only hurt me but also scared me in terms of what he’d do to sabotage her. Those fears were made worse after I saw what crap he pulled with that Joe hologram...absolutely no. On the other hand, the feeling route had a much more emotionally satisfying ending. it seemed as if both Sara and Shin got their salvation. I actually cried at the AI scene, and I felt as if not only Sara, but I had also I had been freed of this crushing weight...all because of Shin. I will however replay it sometime and will let him live, just to see how Sou and him would interact...

Kanna Kizuchi

Oh Kanna...

Honestly I do sympathize with Kanna. I too am a notorious crybaby and would also be nominated because I’d be weak. From the moment I saw her I just KNEW I wanted to protect her and keep her safe from people like Shin...

The entire sister backstory cut deep, and I was really happy to take the role of her older sister, it just felt like the right thing to do ya know? Anyway overall I do want to protect her and love her!!!

Her death at the logic route was HEARTBREAKING. It was so painful and it just added to the overall...hurt of the damn thing, which is why I ultimately kept her alive. I am quite excited to see what she has to offer, since it seemed like she had MAJOR character development after that ending and I pray it was worth sacrificing Shin...

Joe Tazuna

What!!! A!!! Baby!!! Love...!!! Love is stored in the Joe!!! He has one of my favorite character designs, it’s just really cute! He truly gives me “childhood friend” vibes! I love how supportive he was of Sara. He was always by her side and truly seemed to love her! Personally I think they were just close friends, and didn’t have any romantic feelings for each other, but that’s up for interpretation! Overall amazing character, very good boy!

His death...just absolutely destroyed me...and then the hallucinations just made everything worse. I felt the despair in Sara during those. Absolutely heart wrenching.

Kai Satou

He’s beautiful and I am quite in love with him. His quiet and calm demeanor reminds me of Korekiyo in Danganronpa, one of my favorite characters of all time! Most of what I want to say about him are spoilers though so...this first part will be quite short.

FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKF U C K. All he wanted was to protect Sara...he did his best but ultimately was found out. Even in the end, he tried his best to be useful and encouraged Sara, resisting Miley’s bs! Just...a best boy.

Gin Ibushi

Much like Kanna, I really just want to protect him! At first I was a bit creeped out, but I warmed up to him!!! He’s really cute and I loved sword fighting him!!!

Nao Egokoro

She’s was bit annoying at the start, but I ended up liking her after all! Her bond with Mishima was very cute and I liked how she grew throughout the story.

I liked how Mishima’s death affected her and ultimately contributed to her growth. I admit she did scare me with the whole fake Mishima AI thing, but ultimately I was glad she was sane...her death was sad, especially the painting she didn’t get to finish...but the little cut-scene at the end was really sweet.

Kazumi Mishima

KOMAEDA- okay no but!!! I love him a lot actually! He was really fun to be around and his affection towards Nao really showed! I’ve also had really strong bonds with teachers overtime so it really hit home!

I hate that he had to die first smh...such a feral man...

Reko Yabusame

My goth wife..................................what a lass. I love her a lot. She funky, spunky AND dramatic!!! I just love her a lot!!!

I honestly was quite sad she didn’t get to reconcile with Alice. I could feel that he really cared about her...

Gonbee Yamada (Alice Yabusame)

I don’t have strong feelings for him. His design just sends me into a goddamn frenzy...He got all the primary colors in his hair. Honestly, bold.

The main girl herself! I like her! She’s cute, she’s determined...I don’t really have much to say about Sara because I play her like she’s me basically...however! I will say that her bond with Joe is ADORABLE! And of course...her relationship with Keiji...very cute too, but as I said, I do view her as a replica of me, so take that as you will!

And that’s all I have to say about that. If this was to have a general conclusion its be that yttd has great characters, and it was hard for me to pick someone to die...!

I hate the cold, and refuse to take off my sweater in over 90°F (32°C). I don't really get a lot of attention so I am starved for it. I like physical affection more than verbal affection. I play a lot of videogames, my favorites being visual novels or rhythm ones or RPGs. I've just started crochet and origami. As for personality, I'm fairly cheerful? I try to be. I'm easily irritable, though. I'm all bark and no bite, usually. I'm more likely to argue. I'm strong, I've been told. (2/2)

I'm really torn between Sou and Alice for you dkgjnk but! I think I'm gonna go with Alice Yabusame!!

Ok, hear me out on this: I believe Alice is a soft guy deep inside, and he would be a lot more with his s/o!

You hate the cold? He would be sure you dress up properly when you go out! And as soon as he sees you being cold, he would immediately take off his own jacket and give it to you!

Of course, he would act all embarrassed and though, 'cause he's a tsundere 👀

But! He would care deeply about you, and would do anything to make sure you're safe, even if that means overcoming his embarrassment!

I would definitely pick Nao Egokoro for you!! First of all, she would look out for you 24/7, and that means that she would always bring you lots of blankets even when you don't really need it, she would praise you for your works A LOT, and shower you with compliments all day!!

She could get a bit overwhelming in showing her affection for you tbh but she would do her best not to bother you too much! Of course she would know that you care for her as well!

I don't think you would fight a lot either, she would be really sweet and when she realizes that you're more irritable than usual she would either let you be alone for a bit or comfort you the best she can!

She would especially enjoy playing visual novels with you because she would find it peaceful and a great way to cuddles while you play dgdjs

She would always ask you to show your works when it comes to crochet and origami as well!

I would pick Naomichi Kurumada!! I feel like he's really strong minded but not that irritable, I'm sure he's a chill guy! So, it would be difficult to argue with him!

One thing I thought about is that I feel like he wouldn't be cold that easily? Like, he's the type of person who wears t-shirts during winter time even when it's snowing outside gjsfjsg and it would be really cute to see that difference in your relationship!

He wouldn't be that cuddly, but when he feels like it he would be the best at it! Especially when you're on the sofa playing videogames together, he would hug you and hold you tight while giving you advice on how to make progress in the game when you're stuck dgjdls

He's not an artistic person, but he would always look at your works and tell you how he feels about them, so that he can hopefully help you improve your art!
