Cain Velasquez is Back! He returns to Training after Serving time in Prison
@ufc @cainmma #MMA #UFC #Comeback #AKA
Cain Velasquez, the former UFC heavyweight champion, has made a comeback to training at American Kickboxing Academy (AKA). This comes after his release from prison on a one-million-dollar bail in November 2022. The authorities arrested Velasquez for attempted murder earlier that year. He fired his gun at a vehicle carrying Harry Goularte. Harry is an employee at the daycare center where…

Cain Velasquez was granted $1 million bail Tuesday after eight months in custody. The former UFC heavyweight champion is being charged with attempted murder and 10 other gun-related charges in Santa Clara County (Calif.). Velasquez is being accused of chasing down a man, Harry Goularte, in his vehicle and shooting at him. Goularte is being charged with sexually assaulting a young relative of Velasquez.
Velasquez said in a civil lawsuit filed in June that Goularte molested Velasquez's 4-year-old son.
Velasquez will have to wear a GPS tracker and not come within 300 yards of the alleged victims in the case, per Velasquez's attorney, Mark Geragos.
"It's been a long slog and I am very grateful," Geragos told ESPN. "Nothing is as touching as watching him having it sink in with his wife, Michelle, there."
Velasquez, 40, had been in jail since Feb. 28 and pleaded not guilty in August. He was granted bail Tuesday by Judge Arthur Bocanegra at the end of a pretrial hearing after previously having been denied bail four times by Judge Shelyna Brown. Velasquez allegedly shot Goularte's step-father Paul Bender when he fired into the vehicle Goularte was riding in. Bender sustained no serious injuries.
Velasquez followed Goularte's truck in his own vehicle on an "11-mile, high-speed chase" through the city of San Jose, rammed the truck and fired a 40-caliber handgun multiple times into the truck, which carried Goularte, Bender and Goularte's mother, Patricia, according to the DA's office. Bender was hit with a bullet, though he sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Velasquez's son told police Feb. 24 that Goularte took him into the bathroom of a daycare center and touched his genitals, per a court document. The child said Goularte told him not to tell anyone what happened and that this situation might have occurred "100 times." The child told police that they witnessed Goularte go into the bathroom with other kids, as well.
Geragos said having a hearing was key to Bocanegra making this decision. He said he's not sure when the trial will be held, but Velasquez will have a chance to go home beginning Tuesday.
"Instead of listening to all this hyperbole and nonsense bandied about, we had a hearing with cross-examinations and witnesses under oath," Geragos said.

TJ Grant ended his UFC career on a five fight win streak that was capped off with a KO of Gray Maynard which guaranteed him a title shot at Ben Henderson. Of course that's a what if fight we never got to see because Grant ended up retiring due to catching a concussion in training and ultimately decided that the money in MMA wasn't worth the damage he was taking (Seeing as things are now he was right lol)
But this guy was a dog. Somebody you should definitely look up if you're unfamiliar.
You also know what's crazy? That fight against Gray Maynard was at UFC 160. The same card where Cain Velasquez murdered Big Foot for a second time, JDS caught Mark Hunt with a crazy spinning wheel kick. And names like Max Holloway, Khabib, Wonderboy and Robert Whittaker were still fighting on prelims.
What a time.

MMA GOATS - Blog 2
Starting off my MMA goats tier list with the 10th tier fighters are three very different stylistic contenders and coming up in different time periods for the sport of MMA and UFC. They all brought different aspects that have led me to give them this spot and place them in this tier.
Valentina Shevchenko “Bullet”
Tumblr media
Valentina Anatolievna Shevchenko was born March 7th 1998 in Frunze (now Bichkek), Kyrgyzstan and has always stood out for her physical abilities, notably being a part of the Soviet Navy and playing football for the nation of Kyrgyzstan. All though her real passion was combat sports, following in the steps of her mother and sister. She started at the age of just 5 training taekwondo, later moving to kickboxing where at the age of 12 she knocked out a 22 year old opponent, earning her the nickname “Bullet”. Her come up story alone would be enough to place her on the list, but throughout her career in Muay Thai kickboxing she won over 90 matches and won 8 gold medals in the IFMA world championship. She finally stepped into the octagon in 2010 where she has been dominating the fighters of the bantamweight division ever since, alongside moving up to flyweight and winning the belt in 2018. Even though she lost the belt to Alexa Grasso, she came back and tied her in their rematch and with their trilogy fight on the horizon.
Valentina is a staple and a great reason I like women’s MMA and can watch and route for it, even with all the stigma behind girls in combat sports I think they are equally entertaining and skilled. So in my opinion because of her almost clean Muay Thai and kickboxing record, her complete domination of the UFC bantam and flyweight divisions and her outrageous life story that shocks me every time I hear lt, she proves she’s a skilled fighter of mixed martial arts that has passed the test of time and deserves this spot in the 10th tier of MMA goats.
“The Iceman” Chuck Liddell
Tumblr media
Chuck Liddell was your average 200 pound highschool / college American football player and wrestler who had a love for fighting people twice his age. Eventually he made his way into the UFC in 1998, debuting alongside fighters such as Wanderlei Silva and Dan Henderson towards the beginning of the sport when it was still considered by some to be too barbaric and with fighters only having one aspect to their game. And just a side note, this era of UFC was one of my favourites because it was the 90, because how different it was with the lack of safety and utter lack of care from the people and entire industrie. His early career in MMA was dominant with an almost flawless record, but after losses to Randy Couture in the UFC and Rampage Jackson during a grand prix tournament, his career started to really shift. His next fight against Tito Ortiz and future rival was won by TKO after throwing a mass of punches. He went on to win the belt from Couture and defend his title for two years, where he won rematches against Tito Ortiz, Couture, Horn and Sobral. Even though he lost his belt to Rampage Jackson which started his downfall, I think he deserves this spot because of his rise, peak and overall becoming the legacy and arguably first star of the UFC. Even thought I never grew up watching him myself, just researching matches and highlights from the old days of the UFC, I realize that Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell is undoubtedly one of MMA goats that deserves his spot on this tier of the list because of his achievements yes, but mostly because he was able to stand in to me in those old static and grimy tape recordings on YouTube.
Cain Velasquez
Tumblr media
More as an honorable mention on this tier, the last person that I think deserves a spot on this tier is Cain Velasquez for not his skills in MMA (though he was a outstanding fighter), but for his trials and tribulations outside of the ring and “could have been” goat legacy for the heavyweight division. Its what I really like about Cain as a person and the reason he’s on this tier. I would go into more details, but I think I could never do it justice, so go and watch this video for further elaboration on his injury-filled and conflicted career in MMA.

Serghei Spivac Ragdolling Greg Hardy
Forever thankful to Serghei Spivac (15-3) for this.
A good wrestler with a good gas tank will have a LONG LONG career in the UFC at heavyweight. Even if you’re not the level of athlete of a Curtis Blaydes or Cain Velasquez, if you can put a 260+ lb man on his back, you’re going to wear him out. And Spivac is a damn good heavyweight wrestler. Don’t think it’ll be enough to get him a title shot but I fully expect to see him collecting 6 figure checks in the UFC for the next like 7-10 years because of his wrestling/grappling and cardio. And that’s not a bad place to be as an athlete.
Spivac will get a chance to join the elite of the heavyweight division this Saturday (Feb. 4) as he is set to face off with known anti-wrestler Derrick Lewis (26-10-1) in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivac.
