Beren and Finrod are willing to blow their cover right in front of Sauron himself rather than repeat these words:

"Death to light, to law, to love! / Cursed be moon and stars above! / May darkness everlasting old / that waits outside in surges cold / drown Manwë, Varda, and the sun! / May all in hatred be begun / and all in evil ended be / in the moaning of the endless Sea!"

So...how do the elves perform this part of the Lay of Lethian? Because these lines are from the Lay, and the elves must sing and perform the Lay fairly often since it's one of their most beloved stories.

I find it difficult to believe that they would willingly and frequently repeat the blasphemous and seditious words that Finrod and Been were willing to lose their lives not to repeat just for a song (however important that song might be). If nothing else, it would be very disrespectful to the heroes they are trying to immortalize who did in fact die in large part because they blew their cover by not repeating those words.

So, my theory is that the words quoted above from the Lay of Leithian are sung and performed but are not actually the words that Sauron and the orcs used. In other words, I believe that the verse in the Lay is a toned-down or altered version (it is a little overdramatic, after all) of the actual oath to darkness because "no true Man nor Elf yet free / would ever speak that blasphemy"

Canto VII/Season 5 Abnormality Speculation

Ok, so each abnormality that is either part of a sinner's dungeon or their season pass egos (In the case of Heathcliff) usually has some connection/symbolism for them ala each of the ego used during Realizations in Library having some symbolism towards the emotions/memories displayed within. Since we have a pretty damn big list of mirror dungeon abnormalities and they seem to primarily draw on those for new bosses as opposed to making new ones, I'ma speculate on some options for things we'll face in Don's personal dungeon.

Pagoda Veneration

This one is pretty self explanatory. It's focused around wishes and the granting/destruction of them, which fits Don's character to a tee to the point she already has an EGO for it.

Rose Hunter

So, this abnormality is effectively a rogue hunter that seeks to bring Snow White's Apple (Or Ebony Apple, possibly both) back to fulfill the role they had in the original tale. Effectively, cutting their dreams short to drag them back to their original fate, which could possibly be the problem Don faces in her Canto or faced in her own past. It would effectively represent reality trying to drag her back down.

Sleepyhead

This one mainly correlates to Don's fascination and association with toys, along with it giving a lust gift which matches the Sin of Don's base ego. It also has a blood motif in that you need to offer it blood to get its head to raise back up to give you the gift, which also matches with Don's base ego translating to "Blood of Sancho".

Tomorrow's Expression

Tomorrow's Expression is an Aberration of Today's Shy Look, which in Library stood-in for Angela's having to mask her true desires to reach out to the others in order to fulfill the Seed of Light plan. Tomorrow's Expression is effectively Shy Look's opposite, being something that asks how it should express itself as opposed to something that wanted to find a way to express its own emotions. This can correlate to the possible origins of Don and her worldview, and the original story of Don Quixote and how people tried to cruelly snap Don out of his delusions.

Also I've been thinking, since they've already been introduced and allies to the Limbus crew alongside Saude's possible future return I wonder if Caiman and Pilot will play some kind of role in Don Quixote's Canto taking in count the themes around her character (Caiman resenting the Sinners for being the one who has to clean up the messes they leave behind, Pilot seeing the Sinners as heroes and believing earnestly everything he's doing under Limbus is for the greater good)

this book is so bad it’s pissing me off

speaking of how project moon handles gender, while i love rodya and genuinely think that making raskolnikov a woman was a brilliant decision and an interesting take on the character, i am a bit bitter about how different sonya is. not like i was expecting them to be faithful to the book in that regard - most of the time pm likes to pretend like sex and misogyny don't exist, so suddenly getting a character like book sonya would've felt… weird, i guess? out of place? but then you don't get dunya or katerina either, none of the gender commentary of the source material, and not a single female character who exists in the book aside from, well, gender swapped raskolnikov and the woman she kills (only one of them, mind you). it didn't bother me as much when i played through canto ii, but after getting some distance from limbus and overall disillusionment about pm's writing it's a lot harder to ignore

#haven't played limbus for a while. might be forgetting some things. if there was anything about gender i'd remember tho #i'm willing to hand wave some of it because early chapters in general didn't get enough time and attention imo #but also let's be honest. even if it was canto vii or whatever they still probably would've left out the women #not like crime and punishment handles all this stuff perfectly. it is an old book written by a man. but still #projmoon tag

my crack dulcinea theory i desperately want to happen just because it's funny: "dulcinea" is some scammer on City Social Media who DMed don pretending to be the red mist like "Hi its the Red mist i need 200 thousand won to get my account back" and don did not send them money but did fall for it and keeps talking to them. she's figured out after a while that it's not actually the red mist but she just infodumps to them about fixers and shit and it's such a trainwreck they can't look away. they will not block her because the screencaps of her messages are a hit in the group chat

Canto VI made me realize something— if the quality per Canto keeps increasing, will we ever get a revisit of old Cantos that don't have as much content compared to the newer ones? For instance:

Canto I - 23 pieces of cutscene art, 12 backgrounds, 2 unique distortions

Canto II - 19 pieces of cutscene art, 23 backgrounds, 3 (technically) unique boss fights

Canto III - 17 pieces of cutscene art, 15 backgrounds, 3 unique boss fights, 1 in-battle cutscene

Canto IV - 39 pieces of cutscene art, 27 backgrounds, 5 (I'm 90% sure) boss fights, 2 in-battle cutscenes

Canto V - 43 pieces of cutscene art, 39ish backgrounds, 5 boss fights, 3 in-battle cutscenes

Canto VI - 29 pieces of cutscene art, 36 backgrounds, 4 boss fights, 5-9 in-battle cutscenes depending on your definition of a cutscene

Canto VI isn't a great example of this because numbers-wise it may seem like it has less, but also there was a lot more creativity in the use of resources here and most of them took a lot longer to make and had like a bajillion different sublayers

RIGHT! THE POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE WITH THIS. I just thought that it'd be nice to get a Canto I-III revisit or something bc like while they were introductory chapters, it sort of feels like the respective characters were slighted since they didn't really get as much content as Cantos IV-VI did. I'm sure I'll look back at these Cantos soon and find them lacking compared to Canto VII onward, but idk. It just got me thinking if we get anything more for characters whose chapters have already happened.

Anyways. Canto VI was great. I really liked it. Rant over.

(PS: I'm not saying that older Cantos are lacking, it's more that the newer ones are too good that they're raising the bar lmao.)
