Hoo boy, I'm behind on tagged stuff. (After this, I owe the last line I've written, the 8 tv shows, and who knows what else!) But this one was rather easy, even if formatting took me longer than I thought.
Tagged by the incredibly talented @onekisstotakewithme, whose stuff you should absolutely read because she's so good. (And prolific, too!) Thank you, Ally <3
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.
I have eleven (for now? hopefully?) and I'll put them under a cut because this might get long for my mobile peeps. (I'm not the best at first lines. Or all that follow. I noticed a pattern, lol.)
Tagging anyone who wants to do it, of course! Feel free to ignore it if you don't want to do it, or if you've been already been tagged, etc. I probably missed some posts here and there. ♥️ @miabicicletta, @ballroompink, @holy-ships-x-red-lips, @district447, @eyes-onthehorizon
From most recent to oldest. They are all for The West Wing. Will I come out of this hating my writing even more? We'll see!
still you never took your hand from mine
The idea of writing a book by herself had always felt like this thing she wasn’t sure she wanted to do, at least not at that point in her life.
The (in)famous memoir fic. CJ starts writing a memoir while pregnant with her first child.
haunted by the notion somewhere there's a love in flames
Filomena Ristorante was an enchanting establishment she hadn’t heard of until earlier this afternoon.
Set during CJ and Danny's business dinner in S1. It's two chapters long!)
just your smile lit a 60-watt bulb in my house that was darkened for days
When the President summoned her to the Oval Office on Tuesday, the last thing C.J. was expecting was for him to invite her to their Thanksgiving festivities up in the Residence — that was, if she didn’t have plans already.
Thanksgiving 2006 in the Residence, with a dash of thanks and trivia. CJ/Danny, with Jed/Abbey, Josh/Donna, Charlie/Zoey
don't want you to go but I'll be okay
The flight back to Andrews Air Force Base had been pushed back until the morning for various reasons; not least of which had been avoiding a repeat of everyone’s protests on the way to Portland due to the late departure time.
C.J. finds some unexpected closure when she goes out for dinner during the Portland trip. (Yes, I'm copying some of the summary for some of these, lol.)
I'll be your friend in the daylight again
If C.J. was asked to name whatever meetings she had been a part of this week, she would fail.
C.J. and her complicated feelings about her NSC card resurface once Josh gets his during the Santos administration. (No, but I'm actually surprised by how accurate and succinct some of these summaries are.)
catch my pieces as they fall apart
His beautiful wife was sad and exhausted and likely sick, and Danny didn’t know how to take her pain away.
After her father passes away, C.J. grapples with grief and what her future might hold.
say it's here where our pieces fall in place
The sun over the plains was unforgiving on this late winter day.
A series of glimpses into C.J. and Danny’s lives, together and apart, from 1998 to 2008. It's 11 chapters!
we could be the way forward and I know I'll pay for it
The second the call with Hogan disconnected, she stopped walking around the secluded garden area and was hit with a cold breeze she wasn’t prepared for.
St. Augustine, FL; spring of 1998. C.J. wrestles with her burgeoning feelings for Danny when she runs into him outside a campaign event.
maybe everything's turning out how it should be
This wasn’t the same without Leo.
As a way to honor his late mentor, Josh brings back Leo’s Big Block of Cheese tradition during the Santos Administration. Unbeknownst to him, he ends up having a special crackpot meeting of his own. (This has implied CJ/Danny and Josh/Donna.)
all's well that ends well to end up with you
The sun was setting over the small mountain range in the distance, coloring the sky with a pink-orange hue that was breathtaking.
C.J. and Danny find a moment of quiet in a hectic day and reflect about how they got to where they are. Their wedding. It's set after their wedding.
... and +1, because I felt bad leaving it behind
maybe we'll sleep here covered in star shine
At four in the morning, the sky was beautifully dark with just the slightest hint of the day that would soon start on the horizon.
On a sleepless night, C.J. finds herself staring at the stars and reminiscing about her childhood.

modern josh lyman headcanons
oh my god here we go more of my modern west wing au!
similar to sam, it is non-negotiable that josh lyman is a complete and utter disaster of a bisexual man. every day of his life is a fight for survival. he may as well be declared an endangered species. actually, yes he's going to call the world wildlife foundation rn because then he could give out those certificates of “adoption” that come with hyper-realistic stuffed animals like
Tumblr media
except they’d be plush joshs that he can scatter throughout the west wing (especially amongst charlie’s belongings)
okay moving on
his favorite movie is mamma mia, he cries every time.
he refuses to use apple products, takes way too much joy in being the only green text in the group chat, and endlessly makes fun of donna for wearing airpods
he nearly strangles himself the next day when his wired headphones get caught in his scarf
he has a finsta (fake instagram) account that he pretty much exclusively uses to shit talk, it’s very popular, even with republican congressmen. one day, he gets a scoop from a reporter that follows the account about a republican crossing the aisle on their latest bill, and josh almost has an asthma attack while trying to explain to leo how he knows and why leo is forbidden from seeing the post
the president is making him (really the entire senior staff but he’s the only one impressionable enough to go through with it) learn latin on duolingo. it’s not really working but josh likes showing bartlet that he’s leveled up :)
josh can’t function if he’s not listening to a true crime podcast, the more grusome the better. the most expansive social security platform this country’s seen in decades was written to a soundtrack of “wine and crime”
josh isn’t out, and categorically isn’t dealing with that. or at least he wasn’t planning to up until he gets too fired up with senator matt skinner in the white house mess late one night and accidentally blurts out, to a republican senator of all people, that he’s bi just to make the point
[cue a very stressful, tearful conversation in the oval office]
josh, it’s my catholicism, not yours. no i’m not going to fire you.
every third saturday of the month he plays among us with zoey. she’s a pathological liar, honestly it terrifies josh. he’s god awful at the game, so much so that zoey convinces everyone he’s the imposter pretty much every round. he’s only broken one mouse over the injustice. zoey’s sure she can get him to punch the monitor before midterms.
josh is a social media darling. he lives on it, and only causes  minor national security threats once or twice a month. most recently, he caused the FTC to open an investigation on the Bartlet Administration for inside trading thanks to his ongoing beef with the Taco Bell account.
he’s got a bit of a thing for tom brady, which is problematic for several reasons including but not limited to: (1) brady’s obviously a republican and almost certainly not into dudes (toby is skeptical), (2) he keeps winning superbowls so his team keeps showing up to the white house for photo ops which toby spares no expense to embarrass/fluster josh, (3) bartlet, a tried and true son of new england himself, is of course also a patriots fan which means josh gets stuck every week coaching bartlet on his fantasy team
margaret has won the west wing league three years in a row
josh is certain that she’s colluding with the russians
he’s addicted to tiktok, specifically this weird niche community of stay at home moms preparing their kids’ school lunches. he finds it cathartic.
cj says he’s projecting some long, unresolved childhood trauma and should probably tell his therapist instead of venting in the comment section of shannon’s cream cheese raspberry roll ups.
cj’s a fucking narc, that’s what she is.(and he’s so not sharing his roll ups with her tomorrow)
there for sure will be more of these. in the meantime, check out my modern au fic, which is going to turn into a series of loosely connected one-shots!

JOSH AND DONNA WEDDING HEADCANONS!!
first of all, josh wakes up, or more likely, is already awake late at night, and calls sam
“i’m gonna do it, sam”
 “like now?”
“what’s the likelihood she’ll say yes?”
“at this hour, not likely.”
josh then decides to call toby directly after and is met with a lovely string of sleepy curses about how it is the middle of the night and there was no reason to call him at this “ungodly hour”
he softens when he realizes why josh called so late and that there is a reason
josh acts incredibly weird around donna for the next two weeks
one minute he’s tense with her, the next he’s as clingy as a koala bear
he asks her weird and vague questions—by proxy
he gets cj to subtly mention engagements and marriage subtly to see what donna would like
“my cousin, tracy, she just got engaged.”
“oh really?”
“yeah he asked her in central park.”
“i wouldn’t like that, being around all those strangers. but i guess if you’re in front of friends and family, it wouldn’t be too bad”
*cue cj secretly taking notes*
sam is his test dummy, as in he uses sam to practice proposing to donna
“wow you’re really bad at this”
“i’ve never done this before, sam”
“i have and i can tell you right now you have it all wrong”
sam was actually pretty reluctant but once he found out he was gonna be josh’s best man, he warmed up
josh recruits sam and toby to write a speech of some sorts
he gets so stressed about it, toby slaps him and tells him to pull what little shit he has left together
since we all agree that jed is basically like josh’s second dad, josh goes to bartlet right before he does it
little sidenote: abbey knows because cj let it slip that josh was proposing and because i believe mrs bartlet is the number one josh and donna shipper, she insists the that she’s in on it
abbey throws a dinner party in manchester that is really a disguise for donna’s proposal
donna can’t help but feel like everyone is staring at her
everyone is here: jed, abbey, toby, cj, sam, ginger, bonnie, charlie, ellie, and zoey
after dinner, abbey invites everyone into the parlor for some “celebratory”champagne
in true donna fashion, she asks what their celebrating
everyone directs their eyes to josh because well it’s his fucking turn to speak and he hasn’t said a damn word all night
josh gives his little spiel about his and donna’s relationship (with donna’s little quips in between) until he finally asks her
donna doesn’t say anything at first
then she takes the ring out of his hand, studies it, then puts it back in his hand
he thinks that it means no and so does everyone else (abbey’s silently cursing) and his eyes even start to well up despite him not wanting them to
“well, are you just gonna look at or am i gonna be the future mrs. josh lyman?”
the look on josh’s face was a mix of relief, love, and happiness—to donna, it was priceless
 they kiss of course
abbey is the first to see donna’s ring
which, of course, looks like this:
Tumblr media
 josh loves saying “my fiancée”
donna secretly (not so secretly) also loves saying “my fiancé”
SUMMER WEDDING (specifically the middle of august)
abbey insists they hold the wedding at the bartlet farm and while josh initially declines, abbey sits him and down and tells him they’re gonna get married under this roof or “so help me god”
SIDENOTE: this is really me letting my inner wedding planner (and chronic self-projector) out of me so prepare yourself
PEONIES & GARDENIAS (gardenias are my favorite flower)
donna was one of those who dreamed of a white wedding but it clearly didn’t go to plan
SHE’S the one calming down josh because he absolutely is going berserk and is panicking
abbey becomes donna’s right-hand woman, going dress shopping with her and giving her advice as a former bride and current wife
donna is superstitious—she goes by the now famous rhyme something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
her something old is a pearl necklace from her mom
her something new is a little belt that goes around the waist of her dress
something borrowed is a pink ribbon her childhood best friend tied around her wedding bouquet
the something blue are these little blue earring studs josh got for her before they were engaged
abbey helps donna pick out her dress along with cj, ginger, her mother, and bonnie
she eventually picks this dress:
Tumblr media
 AFTERNOON WEDDING
(i actually used this game to design the dress that i felt suited donna—go to azaleasdolls.com and go to exclusive games, scroll a little, and there should be that wedding game)
to be frank, i do not know what the respective bachelor and bachelorette parties would be like, but i know i would prefer to be at the bachelorette party
donna starts crying right before she has to walk down the aisle but manages to pull herself together before walking out
sidenote: jed would gladly walk donna down the aisle if her father could somehow not make it (thats just a cute one bc donna and jed friendship is totally underrated)
i’m telling you right now, this is one of the only times josh lyman has cried in front of people
he sees her walking to him and he just mentally kicks himself because he didn’t see what was so perfectly clear for everyone else
 god he loves her
when donna gets next to him, she whispers “stop blubbering or you’re gonna make me ruin my makeup”
the wedding vows are unbelievably so josh and donna-esque
even sam starts crying a little bit
charlie likes to bring it up but sam denies it ever happened
“my allergies just happened to be very inflamed that day and i had spring fever”
“sam it was the dead of summer”
 RECEPTION TIMEEEEE
sam’s best man speech is a little drunk but who cares it’s funny and josh and donna watch back the tape in their free time after they first get married
they have a fairly decent sized wedding
guests consist of family, friends, former and current staffers
when they cut the cake, donna 100% smashed a piece in josh’s face
it was a vanilla, three-tier cake and it was gorgeous
in response, he gently dotted her nose with frosting before absolutely demolishing a piece on her face
their first dance is to just the way you are by billy joel bc i really like that song and i’m self projecting again
josh LOVES saying “my wife”
it is “my wife this” and “my wife that”
and donna wonders why she married the dork
she takes his last name but also keeps her so she becomes Donna Moss-Lyman
she does typically go by mrs. lyman when being addressed though (she thinks it has a nice ring to it)
THEY HONEYMOONED IN ITALY—i’m talking the amalfi coast (i’m only saying that because i just happen to be a huge harry styles fan and that’s where the golden mv was filmed and we’re getting sidetracked so that was just a little tidbit)
they went to rome and to that statue thing audrey hepburn and gregory peck put their hands into in Roman Holiday
 y’know this one:
Tumblr media
in conclusion, the wedding was very beautiful and josh and donna really got the wedding of their dreams
also sidenote just because: josh and donna have three lovely children, two girls and one boy
also this post is dedicated to @stars-on-the-cuffs-of-her-jeans and @meanderingstream who inspired me to write this!

Could you please talk about your Seaborn-Moss headcannons! Love the idea!
The Seaborn-Moss campaign takes place in late 2021 and most of 2022, as the West Wing’s presidential campaigns are our midterm years. Santos had two terms, which were followed by two different Republican administrations.
By that time Huck and Molly Ziegler are 18 and just starting college. Neither are majoring in political science, but they both decided to take it on as a minor.
So, Sam announces his campaign in December of 2021, at his home in California with his family and a lot of the former Bartlet staffers. (CJ, Danny, Toby, Andy, Josh, Donna, Charlie, Zoey)
Sam asked Donna if she’d be willing to be his VP before even announcing his bid. He knows it’s premature, but he thinks that Donna’s going to be one of the best people for the job.
Josh is Sam’s campaign manager with Charlie being an assistant campaign manager. Toby helps a lot, but he’s still more of a speechwriter. Sam and Toby argue a lot over the speeches. Donna, CJ, and Danny deal with the press. Zoey and Andy are tasked with helping Sam’s wife, Natalie.
They recruit a lot of staff from the Santos campaigns as well, and of course, a bunch of college students.
So, all of the West Wing guys have kids by this point and CJ & Danny’s adopted daughter is the oldest at 15. The youngest is Charlie & Zoey’s daughter, who’s six. The group ends up deciding to try out online schooling, at least while they’re in New Hampshire.
Speaking of New Hampshire, apparently Manchester is quite close to where the Bartlet farm is, so Jed & Abbey watch the kids while the adults campaign. Sam asks Jed for a lot of advice.
There’s definitely a small, pointless scandal about the fact that CJ and Danny adopted two children, Abby and her brother, Dominic.
A different scandal includes a tabloid getting their hands on the kids’ grades and publish them. It’s madness trying to figure out what should be said, especially as a lot of the focus is on Sam’s kids along with Josh and Donna’s kids. They have to talk Josh out of doing multiple interviews. He’s ready to blow a gasket because “goddamn it there’s not the focus of this campaign!”
There’s multiple remarks about how it’s a good thing that Josh doesn’t really understand how to use social media. Actually, part of the campaign’s social media ends up being run by Sam’s daughter, Josh & Donna’s son, and the Cregg-Concannon siblings. They’re the teenagers after all.
Election night is an interesting, chaotic thing. Josh, Donna, CJ, and Danny find themselves drinking with some of the younger campaign staff and a conversation about “coming on board” breaks out. This leads the four to reminiscing about the first Bartlet for America campaign.
Election Day itself is just a ball of stress for all of them. There’s a lot of kicking each other out the room to go check on the kids. There’s also a lot of “Is Josh’s head going to explode?” conversations.
Of course, Sam manages to win the presidency and serves one term before deciding not to run again.

Fandom: The West Wing Relationship(s): CJ/Danny, Josh/Donna, Jed/Abbey, Zoey/Charlie Word Count: 9.5k Genre/Tags: Fluff, Found Family, Emotional Hurt/Comfort (minimal), Thanksgiving Dinner (even if this is a little too late), Secret Relationship, Canon Compliant Summary: When the President summoned her to the Oval Office on Tuesday, the last thing C.J. was expecting was for him to invite her to their Thanksgiving festivities up in the Residence — that was, if she didn’t have plans already. She shouldn’t have been surprised, since the President had been grumbling about not cooking the turkey himself all week, but she believed it’d end up being a family affair after the last few months. Thanksgiving 2006 in the Residence, with a dash of thanks and trivia. Originally Posted: 06 December 2022

A part of me wished that in an AU TWW was picked up by premium TV and that
1. The didactic ways were handled less egregiously (women as the medium for such, seriously?! I mean CJ had a Master’s in Pol Sci from UC Berkeley and lived in Dayton and yet there were the census and Camp David gaffes)
2. Ritchie-Vinick (the love of his life’s death would have been before 2002) was the GOP ticket during Bartlet’s re-election run. A Hoynes vs Vinick debate would have probably been immense and a Florida-California GOP ticket would have been strong, no? (Not really an American or have a sufficiently thorough knowledge of US Politics then)
3. The military shuttle leak (We all know Toby would not have done it that way) during his affair was the reason why Hoynes resigned.
- Instead of  “a nod to mediocrity, a reversion to the mean and a rebuke to the exemplary”, Hoynes was replaced by Leo (Bingo Bob was still on the short list and of course the GOP’s preferred candidate)
- Berryhill became the new CoS  (I considered Dr. Nancy McNally but I thought she was needed as the NSA director). He develops a professional fondness for CJ (because of some event/issue I still do not know what exactly) and wanted her to be more involved in policy work.
- Haffley and Congress executes a speedy VP confirmation in exchange for Vinick as the Secretary of State, prepping him as their nominee of course due to his popularity during the previous election and no more Senate votes to be worried about for his future campaign, and most thought Leo would not likely be the presidential democratic nominee because of his “history” (Haffley wouldn’t agree with that)
- Leo explains to Josh that he was not yet ready to be Bartlet’s CoS and that his work as deputy was palpably valued and highly regarded but Josh was more concerned on convincing Leo that he should run Leo’s campaign when the Bartlet administration comes to a close. Toby and CJ thinks Leo would not win against Baker in the primaries. Everyone thinks Vinick would be a formidable opponent. Leo agrees with Toby and CJ. Also, immediately after agreeing to be the VP replacement, he discusses with Jed and the key people in the DNC that he would not be running for the presidency (because he already found his guy)
- Leo chooses someone else as his CoS and tries very hard to convince Margaret to be Berryhill’s secretary but she wouldn’t budge so she “goes where he goes”
- Donna leaves Josh to be an executive assistant or maybe deputy of sort to Leo’s CoS but a key position in Leo’s staff which is also another excuse as to why she’ll still be part of the Gaza delegation
- As I took everything from Josh - well Sam was already taken - he becomes heavily preoccupied with who the democratic presidential nominee should be (which of course led him to Santos)
- Berryhill dies from aneurysm and CJ becomes CoS but with a little net this time, though Toby still thinks she could use her purse to swat the suicide bombers in Ramallah
- Annabeth is still hired as deputy press secretary to hone Toby’s watchable quality but after Josh left, they really hire a press secretary
- Toby and Will share the deputy CoS and major communications office tasks. Toby bears the brunt of it
4. My take on the following too:
- The Charlie-President Bartlet dynamic should have “died” gradually, not like Charlie just disappeared - Mandy, Rina, Ninety Miles Away, interns never happened - Toby proposed to Andy after the birth of the twins. I mean c’mon Toby! She was very pregnant! She still breaks his (and mine and everybody else’s) heart though - The San Andreo nuclear accident happened way before the primaries - Danny accepted an editor position after the Shareef arc
