New brainworm gonna think as I type again:
one good friend recently posited the question of wherefore one Bombastic Bot-that is, E-123 Omega- puts up a front. Similar to his teammates on Team Dark; Rouge with her appearance and flirting, Shadow with his standoffish attitude
To figure that out, one has to examine and tease out exactly what took place during the indefinite length of time Omega was sequestered on his own in the chamber with Shadow prior to Rouge releasing the hedgehog at the start of Sonic Heroes
It's not hard to see why Omega would end up a very angry robot. How long did he, an engineering marvel capable of destruction, learning and computation only Tails and Eggman himself could compete with, remain in an environment entirely static and unchanging? What Nth repetition of his routines and subroutines served as the catalyst for his change from Strongest Eggman Robot to Strongest Eggman Enemy?
It just hit me now, but while it seems weird to assign things like age to a machine that's essentially come out of its creation process fully formed and, at least physically, as complete as it will ever be, one should also consider that Omega is essentially an infant.
Puts a new perspective on his rage and general outlook, right? Gamma, Omega's predecessor, received significant attention from Eggman, to say nothing of praise, in the short interval before he turned against his creator and chose to save his E series brothers. Or even Shadow, who was bioengineered as a teenager from the outset to be roughly the same age as Maria (presumably), and, while obviously burdened with his own baggage prior to his canon introduction, was never ignored by his sister.
Omega-again, infant-got none of that. And newborns who are neglected of attention, as is well documented, act out, get angry, and do not form attachments easily
And given how long Omega was presumably left to that chamber, only avoiding gathering dust by his own power of patrolling the small quarters, it stands to reason the abandonment changed him irrevocably; though he clearly does show capacity for more growth, else Team Dark wouldn't still be around to this day (Shut up, SEGA)
Circling back, though, his period in isolation: what conclusions did he draw for himself once he began to change?
He possessed limited data, yet he must have established some thoughts about the outside world.
He clearly focused all the hatred in his circuitry toward Eggman; and by proxy any of his other creations.
There's art of Tails on Omega's head riiiiight. . . here! Wherein Omega casually drops that he's always assumed Tails hates him while Tails is in the middle of running a debug on him and Tails is just "What?"
Did Omega, through some convoluted process of thought, come to think that all who oppose or have opposed Eggman also hated him? In the sort of thinking someone even younger than Charmy or Cream might come up with? Did that also contribute to his hatred of Eggman?
And, while I don't always subscribe to the idea that Omega feels strongly enough about Sonic to hate him, does his dislike/friction with the one specific hedgehog stem from the fact that Sonic never fails to capture Eggman's attention? Again, this idea stems from the new perspective of Omega as an extraordinarily deadly and angry infant; also, given that the supercomputer CPU serving as his brain is at least as complex as any other character, it's likely that even if that is the case, he's buried anything that might prompt him realizing it-let alone acknowledging it-real deep
More paragraphs spawned out of this than I anticipated, but ultimately I think to answer the question we'd have to find out exactly what was running through Omega's CPU during his isolation to really know the finer details.

Sonic the Hedgehog Analyzer, Issue #10: The Battle for Angel Island (Part 2)
Tumblr media
We are moving on to our next part of this arc. Last time, we had Neo Metal Sonic going Super by using the Master Emerald and confronting Sonic and Knuckles. How will the two deal with this situation?
Now, before I start with this story, I have heard that one of SEGA’s mandates is that only male hedgehogs can go Super (wish they included Amy), meaning that, aside from Burning Blaze, the only characters who have Super Forms are Sonic, Shadow and Silver. Now, how did Neo Metal Sonic get away with this? Honestly, I have no idea, but I assume that, since Metal Sonic is based on Sonic, therefore technically being a male hedgehog (a robotic one, but still), meaning that he fulfills the mandate’s conditions. Nice!
Moving on, Super Neo Metal is taunting Sonic and Knuckles, who both want to get kick Neo Metal’s ass, but don’t really know how to deal with the fact that he has a Super Form now. So Super Neo Metal Sonic decides to fix this by firing an energy beam at them and then grabs the two, ramming them into the ground.
Tumblr media
Daaaamn! I mean, Sonic constantly faceplants after falling off high places, but this is brutal. Neo Metal isn’t playing around here.
Tumblr media
He then zaps both with Chaos energy, leaving both of them on the ground (and Knuckles’ tail on fire).
As for Team Two, they’re all doing a good job taking down the Egg Fleet (with Tangle having the time of her life). Tails has a plan on how to do more damage, with Amy then contacting Team One, aka Burning Blaze, who then proceeds to form what I can only describe as a mini-Sun made of fire and completely obliterates half of the Egg Fleet’s wing with the inferno.
Tumblr media
I have nothing but huge respect for Blaze.
Tumblr media
We then briefly cut to Mr. Tinker, who just gets grabbed by Rough and Tumble and dragged away. Yeah, we all know that Mr. Tinker wouldn’t last, but still, I do wish the story explored more this side of Dr. Eggman.
Back on Angel Island, Silver is holding back several Badniks while Tails takes over the Egg Fleet battleship, allowing it to fire at other battleships. Everyone else almost falls off, with Whisper using the Wispon to fly, Charmy and Rouge holding Espio and Amy respectively, and Tangle grabbing Vector before he can plummet into the depths below. Rouge questions Tails’ methods, with Amy noting how Tails was pretty much raised by Sonic and Sonic isn’t known for his patience.
Tumblr media
Rouge and Amy then proceed to have a conversation about Shadow’s disappearance, with Rouge promising to chew him out for bailing and noting how he would obviously go for the strongest threat on the island. Amy figures that it wouldn’t be a bad thing for Sonic and Knuckles to have back-up (something I already noted), only for Rouge to add that they might just start show each other up instead of working as a team.
In the background, we have a terrified Vector being lifted onto the platform by an overexcited Tangle as she flops on the floor, yelling in joy.
Have I mentioned that Tangle is awesome? Because she is!
Anyways, back to Sonic and Knuckles, who are currently getting kicked around by Super Neo Metal Sonic and are lying on the ground, with Neo Metal deciding to quote Frieza,... only to get interrupted by none other than Shadow.
Tumblr media
Points for the dramatic entrance, buddy, but you could’ve showed up earlier, you know.
In any case, Shadow stabs Super Neo Metal with a Chaos Spear, with Super Neo Metal Sonic going back to just Neo Metal Sonic, losing all of his powers. It is not explained how Shadow could do that, but I assume that the Chaos Spear hit Neo Metal’s power core and somehow de-powered him. If you guys have any theories, I’m open to hearing them. Then, Shadow proceeds to beat up Neo Metal, kicking him back into the throne on top of the Master Emerald.
Tumblr media
Before he can deliver the finishing blow, Sonic stops him, worried that Neo Metal is going to copy Shadow’s Bio-Data. Shadow is willing to take the risk, only for Knuckles to shove both away to get to the Master Emerald.
Now, before I move on, I wanted to note Shadow and Sonic’s actions. While Sonic’s caution made sense, because the last thing they need is for Neo Metal to absorb Shadow’s Bio-Data, Shadow’s attempt at beating Neo Metal up while taking the risk of him transforming was also understandable. Either come up with another plan, or just keep the pressure on before Neo Metal can recover.
However, I think I would go here with Knuckles, who wants to get Neo Metal away from the Master Emerald. We already saw what Neo Metal could do with it, so the smartest move would’ve been for either Sonic or Shadow (or both) to grab Neo Metal and use their speed to drag him away from the Master Emerald. But, hey, hindsight is 20/20, and Neo Metal already has everything he needs for his next transformation.
Tumblr media
Said transformation could only be described as something out of a horror movie. While Shadow and Knuckles go for an attack, unable to pierce the barrier Neo Metal formed around himself, Sonic realizes that they may be over their head and that they should retreat. Fortunately, the two listen to reason and head out of the chamber.
Tumblr media
Knuckles is devastated, while Sonic tries to lighten the mood a little, only for an earthquake to shake the island. Knuckles explains that, since the Master Emerald had been cut off from Angel Island, it will fall into the ocean below them, meaning the stakes have just gotten higher and they’re on a time limit.
We then observe Neo Metal’s new transformation, with a thunderstorm in the background and the whole island tilting. We only see bits and pieces of his new draconic form, until it is fully revealed in the last page.
Tumblr media
Everyone, meet the MASTER OVERLORD!

My pitch for a Sonic game:
- Spin-off game set post-Forces, meaning you can use your old OC if you have one, or load up a new one.
- Main Plot: Trying to track down Phantom Ruby prototypes to make sure they don't fall into the wrong hands, which means that you'll be seeing old villains from the Sonic franchise, and hopefully characters from other forms of Sonic media.
- Forbidden Ruby: Strongest PR prototype, with the power to permanently alter matter, meaning Eggman didn't use it out of fear of it's power, nor did he destroy it out of fear of what that could do. This is unsurprisingly the main McGuffin that the latter half of the game revolves around.
Plot:
- The first act consists of a series of missions to find weaker prototypes, scattering you across the map, into old and new zones meeting characters like Mighty and Ray, and (in a perfect world) Tangle and Whisper. These acts are supposed to be there to get you used to the controls and establish some world-building and allow the player to see what impacts the events of Forces had and establish a wider world, instead of everything revolving around Sonic. These missions also allow the player to build up their repertoire of weapons in preparation for the next act of the game.
- The Chaotix inform you that someone called 'Elizabeth' is attempting to steal the FR, and they aren't sure why. When asked, no-one knows who Elizabeth is, although Tails seems the most suspicious, almost like he knows something that he isn't telling anyone, but the rest of the cast don't seem suspicious of Tails, which allows the player to second-guess whether or not Tails is hiding something or not.
- The rest of the game is you trying to track down the FR, and find out who 'Elizabeth' is and why she wants it as well. During this you will fight some actual flat-out villains, like the Babylon Rouges and Team Hooligan. In the hub, there will be one of the Chaotix (Vector, Espio, and Charmy) who will tell you if they've made any breakthroughs with the 'Elizabeth' situation, to know about the FR location you can talk to Team Dark and Amy, who will tell you about any leads they find.
Final Act:
- Amy contacts you during a mission and informs you of the FR's location, and sends you and Sonic out to find it, telling you Tails will meet you there, though Sonic shows some confusion about why Tails would be there, but shakes it off as he trusts that Tails won't use the FR for anything.
- You make your way to the location of the FR, only to find that the only person there is Tails, who's holding the ruby with clear intent to try and use it.
- Sonic stops Tails and asks what he wants to do with the ruby, Tails has no real use for it as he has everything he needs. Sonic also brings up how he feels betrayed by Tails, and how he feels like Tails is being selfish. Rouge contacts you to ask where they are, and if they've found whoever Elizabeth is. Sonic says they haven't and asks Tails if he knows who Elizabeth is.
- Tails drops the bombshell of all bombshells on Sonic's little head. Tails is Elizabeth. She wanted to use the Forbidden Ruby's ability to alter matter to transition seamlessly, without the whole medical process.
- Tails uses the Ruby to transition, Sonic then asks her why she didn't tell them sooner, as they could've helped her, Elizabeth breaks down ranting about why she felt uncomfortable with telling them. She rants about how she didn't want to make a fuss as they would've inevitably made a very big deal about it, and she couldn't handle being the centre of their collective attention.
- Sonic comforts her as he signals you to grab the Ruby, then the three of you leave, signalling the end of the game as the credits roll. This gives Tails/Elizabeth a platform to be more present in the games as Sonic's 'little sis' as she feels more confident.
This pitch exists because Sonic Team keep teasing us with Transfem Tails bait and I'm taking it fr. Open to critique.

when i was little my parents only let me buy a pumpkin i was able to carry back to the hay wagon. my tiny baby arms couldn't carry anything too heavy... but for Charmy who regularly carries a 400kg crocodile, a big ass pumpkin should be no problem. vec did this to himself.

Who is the physically strongest sonic character?
Isn't it canonically Knuckles? I remember doing research for my fic (because Bean wildly oversells Bark's abilities in Chapter 3 of WtDMtN, and I was curious to see just how ludicrous his claims were getting), and I think I read somewhere on a wiki Knuckles can lift hundreds of TONS of weight???
Mighty I'm sure is up there close, we saw Vector make that car cage in IDW so he's also quite strong. Shadow and Big can casually flip/toss cars in Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Adventure respectively. Bark and Storm can both be formidable opponents to Knuckles in a fist fight, so they have to be pretty strong too.
Then we've got a couple people you wouldn't think of right away, but it's like "Oh yeah, they're strong too." Charmy can lift Vector, we can make the argument that Cream can lift BIG since it's based on Sonic Heroes mechanics. Rouge can lift Omega with one hand, as also seen in Sonic Heroes...
Knuckles is probably the most OP, but all the power characters and Shadow are probably maybe just a level or two beneath him, with a couple people like Charmy, Cream, and Rouge bringing up the rear.
@bitter-sweet-coffee , this seems like a better question for you honestly. Is there someone I'm forgetting?

Personally, I think Cream the Rabbit is currently the one character out of the entire Sonic cast of characters that I feel was never needed.
Why do I come to that conclussion?
For starters, Cream was introduced with the idea of being Amy's equivalent to Sonic's Tails. However, an aspect that the people at Sonic Team did not take into account is that while Sonic and Tails are very different characters from each other than on top, not only complement each other but also hightlight each others positives, this was never the case with Amy and Cream.
The problem is not just that both Amy and Cream are very similar characters (both are sweet innocent girls) which by itself alone causes a situation where they overlap and in order to make one shine by being sweet and compassionate, the other has to take a dive... Guess which of the two took said dive and had her character be flanderized in the 2000's by playing out the other notable aspect that was left?
No, the other problem is that their dynamic does anything but highlight what makes each other special. Amy Rose is a very quirky and entertaining character who makes Cream look like a dull and one-dimensional charicature while on the other hand, Cream's impossibly nice politeness causes for Amy to be seen as selfish and pushy in comparisson. Definitively nothing like what happens with Sonic and Tails.
Cream was introduced to the series to work as a support character for a support character (Amy), yet I feel the idea was poorly executed not because of just the usual clumsyness from Sonic Team, but rather because the idea was flawed from the very beginning. It says a lot whe Cream, who was created to be Amy's BFF, then changes her for a cat princess who hails from Austral... I mean, the Sol dimension.
OK, it's been established why Cream as a character had a very poor execution, but why was she never needed?
A) IMO, any series that hopes to strike a nice balance between the members of it's cast needs to make them unique from each other so that they can all shine in their very own right and not overlap each other. Amy's contribution to the franchise is that she is the one character with the strongest compassion and empathy for others. How can Amy possibly go back to being the sweet kid from SA1 (or even Mania Adventures #6) if we're adding another character who also does the same thing? It's either one or the other and I don't think it's fair that Amy has to share (and be reduced to fangirl again) so Cream can shine when all the other major characters get to keep the thing that makes them unique to themselves. I don't think anyone would be happy if ST introduced a younger, cuter and smarter new character to eclipse Tails on his very own game. There is a reason why you never get two Han Solos in the Millenium Falcon.
B) If what they needed was a character who could keep in check Amy's more impulsive side by offering advise, why not use Tails instead? I think Amy would be more willing to listen to the one character that also advises Sonic over some little girl that's half her own age. Plus we get the bonus benefit of Amy being more involved with the main cast... as it should had been from the start. The only thing we got with Cream is to create more distance between Amy and the other characters.
C) If they wanted for Amy to have a BFF, then why not Blaze? In fact, with Amy and Blaze we actually get a dynamic between two characters with personalities that is not only actually different (Amy is bubbly, cheerful and optimistic while Blaze is serious, reserved and realistic) but which also complements for each other's in a way that highlights what makes them endearing characters (Amy can see in Blaze the kind of strong heroine that she aims to become one day, while in Amy, Blaze learns to see the best of any situation as well as to be more compassionate in how she exacts justice). Plus there is the twist the while in Sonic and Tail's duo the blue hedgehog is the oldest, here it's the pink hedgehogette who is the youngest  in her duo, a thing that IMO is more original than just trying to be "Sonic and Tails in girl form".
But if you want a short, more direct answer, then I would say the following: whatever Cream could add to the franchise was either better done by characters introduced before her, or can now be done much better by other more complex characters. Even the whole young child thing can be better pulled off by Charmy Bee and in a more entertaining manner.
Just like how I dislike when characters are given crap for very poor reasons/arguments that don't have a solid foundation, it annoys me when the very exact opposite thing is done for characters who show that they really don't have the potential to stand on their very own merit. Personally, I think Cream is this kind of character that hardly contributes anything meaningful at all. Not even when she actually does get the spolight, which often consists on a watered down version of what Amy did before.
Why exactly do people want Cream to return for? As a character, her strongest point is having one of the most cute designs, but to mee, looks aren't everything. Her personality is pretty basic. Worse, she's one of those type of idealized characters void from any form of flaws. As far as I know, Cream doesn't even have a purpose or goal to drive her character. Sonic likes Adventures, Eggman wants to conquer the world to build the largest amusement park and have it all for himself alone. Tails wants to be as cool as Sonic, Amy wants to win Sonic's affection and respecc, Knuckles wants YOU off his lawn, Rougue wants all them gems in the world, Vector wants to be a famous detective and make lots of money, Big wants to go fishing with Froggy for ever and ever, etc. All of them have something they want or like to do more than anything, no matter how ambitious, mundane or plain ridiculous. All of them, except Cream.
The things I feel Sonic Team really need to think before throwing a half-baked character should be the following:
What is the character's motivation/purpose?
What unique thing is this character going to add/contribute to the existing cast?
Does it overlap and/or take away from existing characters in any way?
And because I like to at least add some constructive criticism, these are the things that Cream needs to have fixed:
* Don't make her Amy 2.0. I can't stress enough how this is a disservice to both Amy (taking away from her character) and Cream (not being allowed to be her own unique thing)
* Don't make her an idealized perfect little princess with no flaws, as that is no character in any way, shape or form. Give Cream actual flaws with clear consequences that can be felt as well as offer an opportunity to grow. You can't win me over if I cannot perceive the character as credible and relatable. To me, this are the two most important things and why it's Amy and Eggman who are my two all-time favorites, since both of them feel "real" in their own unique way because they give a reason to become invested and care for what happens to them. A flaw I can think off is that Cream does not understand things that are normal to grown ups and which to her might come as contradictory, like for example, why sometimes it's better to say a lie than a truth that will hurt others. At six years old, Cream is supposed to be learning and trying to understand her world and how people interact, not giving moral lessons that require having the experience of living to understand them.
As she is now, Cream is not needed. However, I could change my perception of the character, even be more accepting, if Cream was changed from "discount Amy" into something unique... something that actually plays her young age in a credible manner, who pursues a goal and struggles to overcome obstacles being driven by that goal.
They got her design. That's like 50% of the character done right. It's only the personality and how her interaction dynamics are played that needs a major overhaul.

Hey!! I saw those panels from the IDW comic with the whole Resistance thingy and it had titles for Knuckles and Amy; I'm sort of concocting a fanfic based on Forces and I was wondering if you knew whether or not the comics (or really any other place) has most of the main characters' ranks in the Resistance?? Thanks a bunch
So far, from what can we gather from Sonic Forces, this is how the resistance is organized:Knuckles the Echidna - Commander of the Resistance
Amy Rose -  Responsible for Communication Work
Rouge the Bat - Resistance Spy
Avatar - Resistance Rookie
And it had the following factions:
Eagle Squad
Snake Squad
Fox Squad
Now I’m entering into especulation mode, since all that we oficially know about the Resistance was said above.
Sonic the Hedgehog - We don’t a have a clear idea of what member Sonic was exactly for the resistance, he was clearly one of the most active ones, but he mostly followed the others’ orders. If I had to guess, he’d be a soldier/Cobatant, but a very versatile one. He’s capable of doing almost anything.
Sonic the Hedgehog (Classic Sonic’s Dimension) - Basically also a soldier, like his other dimension counterpart.
Miles Tails Prower -  Technical Expert, he knows a lot about machines, and helped the Resistance hacking computers to find out more about the Phantom Ruby.
Shadow the Hedgehog - Combatant
E-123 Omega - Heavy Fire Arms
Silver the Hedgehog - Mostly helped out in any way that he could. If I had to guess, before Sonic returned, Silver was the main combatant for the Resistance. Since he was one the Resistance’s strongest members.
Vector the Crocodile - Vector clearly could’ve been a tactician and a smaller leader of sorts, based on how we saw him operating in the Sonic Forces Prequel Comics.
Charmy Bee - I don’t know, flyer of the Resistance?
Espio the Chameleon - He could also be a tactician of sorts and a combatant, and also a spy.
I hope I could be of help!

More Sonic Fighters Stuff (Part 6): Characters and Roles
So, let's start off with the current roster of characters.
The definitive ones are presently...
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Bark, Bean, Fang, Espio, Vector, and Charmy.
Some characters I'm on the fence about would be Big the Cat and Mighty the Armadillo. The former for being more Modern-era Sonic, and the latter because...well, I've never really seen him with any sort of distinguishing moves.
For unlockable characters, I'm considering Eggette, Sonya and Manic from Underground, Blaze and Silver, as well as the Hardboiled Heavies (with the possible exclusion of Overlord Heavy for not exactly being on the same power level as the other four Heavies. I haven't decided yet).
Characters would loosely fit into four playstyles:
SPEED characters rely on their namesake to dash in and out of a fight at their leisure, as well as have a strong aptitude for collecting rings. However, they are usually some of the easiest characters to juggle, and aren't too hard to knock out of the ring, either.
Examples are Sonic (obviously), Espio, and Sonya.
FLIGHT characters have strong air mobility and great attack options in the air. They have an easy time avoiding stage hazards and get to choose when to drop in and engage a fight. Their high air mobility makes them hard to ring-out, too. However, their generally low weight makes them easy to knock around, and they aren't that great at moving other players either, as they tend to be soft hitters.
Examples are Tails (again, obviously), Fang, and Missile Heavy.
POWER characters are the heavyweights of the game, boasting the strongest hits and a very strong grab game. Because they're so heavy, they're usually very difficult to juggle or move, but their strength is also their weakness. They tend to be very slow, making it hard for them to collect rings or to land strong attacks.
Examples are Big the Cat, Vector, and Bark. Knuckles is a Power character, but to a lesser extent, as he also dips into the FLYING class.
Lastly, TECH characters are the token obnoxious class. They're strength is in their special moves with large hitboxes and hazards that they place on the arena to restrict their opponents movement. They can control a map quite well, but in terms of an honest fight, they have the weakest combat moves by far. You can't brute force with TECH characters. You need to strategize and predict your opponent's movements to capitalize on their strengths.
Examples include Bean, Eggette, and almost every Heavy to at least a partial degree (Missile Heavy has missiles, Shinobi Heavy has shurikens that explode, Magician Heavy has portal hats to get around as well as some other tricks he can lay out, and Rider Heavy is the exception, being a POWER class with a SPEED subclass.)
Most characters aren't a perfect match to any four of these classes, but more often have traces of other classes mixed in. All the same, the class of a character can give you a pretty good idea of how they play.
