If you believe it's in my soul I'd say all the words that I know Just to see if it would show That I'm trying to let you know That I'm better off on my own.

Modern Veronaville Roleplay: THE PLOT
I really don't know how to start this post, but @gingersimmerr and I besides the historical (1300+ circa) R&J based roleplay (TS2 storyline version with VV sims), also have a modern AU roleplay set in 2023 and...I feel like talking about it because yes.
I start by saying that it is very stereotyped and clichéd, it's a clear modern version of R&J, very similar to the storyline of the game but with a few more twists and with a little Life Is Strange vibes. (P.S: geologically speaking, many elements are invented, we are both Italian so we don't have enough accurate information about America)
AND, is full of headcanons, so not every character is 100% accurate to its original version. With that said, let's get started.
THE PLOT
Somewhere in America, there is a big town called Veronaville. The town has a style that is a mix between modern white villas and Mediterranean style villas. It's like a little Italy, but very few real Italians live there. Most people choose to live there just for the vibes.
Two young businessmen in theyr 20s have nearly control of the entire city, having bought practically everything in there. The two are so powerful that even the mayor of the city itself seems to have much less authority than the influence of them both.
They are Consort Thebe, a British man, and Patrizio Monty, an Italian man.
You just have to imagine them like the Landgraabs and the Prescott (of LIS).
Consort Thebe is from a royal family, Patrizio Monty is from a noble family instead.
Business is booming, the two are best friends and therefore celebrate every victory together... but something suddenly changes everything. An x reason causes a strong fight between the two.
The two of them split up, the city is literally divided between the Monty's and the Thebe's. For years, the two of them never meet again.
Many, many years later, the two meet by pure chance when both decide they want to buy the same business.
They are both married now. Patrizio married Isabella Pantalone, Consort married Contessa Capp, renouncing his surname (Thebe) for his wife's matriarchal family.
Now, they are elders and have "children" too (adult children!)
Patrizio have three children: Claudio, Antonio and Bianca.
Consort have four children: Goneril, Regan, Kent and Cordelia.
Both are waiting to become grandparents for the first time. Their daughters-in-law and daughters are expecting their first children.
Olivia, Claudio's wife, is pregnant with Mercutio.
Hero, Antonio's wife, is pregnant with Viola.
Cordelia is pregnant with Tybalt.
Tybalt is born. Mercutio is born, Viola, Romeo, Miranda, Juliette and Hermia are born.
This group of children plays together for many years, while their grandparents are still friends.
But a tragedy suddenly strikes the Capp family: Patrizio Monty, out of a hidden grudge, sets fire to a business building which he and Consort had purchased jointly. His excuse was that he wanted to collect a very big insurance, but unaware that the building was not empty, that day, Cordelia Capp, Consort's youngest daughter, lost her life in the flames.
The Capps are rightly in mourning. The Montys are reported to the police by the Capps and taken to court for arson and the murder of Cordelia Capp, but having no evidence, Patrizio is freed from all charges.
The two families split up. Now they despise each other to death. The children are separated.
It's been about 10 years. The children have now grown up and with them the resentment and feud between the two families.
The Capps attend a private school financed by themselves: the Stratford Academy, the Montys attend public school, but Patrizio wants a better education for his grandchildren and so, reluctantly (because the school is financed by the Capps) he is forced to enroll them to the only prestigious institute in the area.
It's a September evening. Patrizio and Isabella invited their entire family to have dinner together and celebrate their grandchildren's entry into private school. But there's a problem: everyone arrives... except Viola.
Hours pass. But it's getting terribly late, Viola doesn't even answer her cell phone. Mercutio and Romeo go to look for her, but only find her cell phone fallen in the alley that she would have taken to her grandparents' house. This means that Viola was coming but...something happened in the meantime.
Everyone at home is terrified. Patrizio doesn't want to call the police because that would draw too much attention to his family. Hero is tired of listening to her father-in-law's stupid reasons and so she calls the police.
After a couple of investigations, following some testimonies, the police are certain: Viola was kidnapped by someone.
Do you want to know the characters infos in another post...?

On the inheritance rules (and other dynamics) of Veronaville
After watching some of the videos of @letomills regarding the Shakesperean themes of the Veronaville sims, I got inspired and decided to write a wall of text.
Disclaimer. I haven’t read this through properly.
There are three families in Veronaville. Two of them, the Capps and the Summerdreams, appears to be matrilineal, that is, the family name is passed through the females, as opposed to most other families in the game, which are patrilineal, including the third family in Veronaville, the Montys, where the family name is passed through the males.
There’s nothing that suggests that the families follow primogeniture, that is, the oldest child becomes the heir or heiress, but rather the opposite. On The Sims Wiki, they suggest what the heir order of the Capp family would look like if they followed real-life primogeniture through the female line, which I find strange, since that is obviously not how the heirs are chosen in that family.
Even though Goneril, Regan and Cordelia all carry the Capp name and passed it on to their spouses (and children), it is clear to me that Cordelia was the parents’ favourite and crowned the heiress, and that it is her daughters who are supposed to carry the Capp name and bloodline forward. To be clear, I believe the heir rules are as follows: The Capp family heir must be a female, and the Monty heir must be male. The former heir picks the most suitable heir among the available ones. Contessa chose Cordelia. Cordelia never had a chance to choose between Juliette and Hermia, since she died when her children were still very young. Upon Cordelia’s premature death, it was up to Contessa to pick between Juliette and Hermia, and Juliette is said to be the Capp heiress (“Romeo has fallen for the Capp heiress”). This implies that Juliette is the heiress, meaning that Hermia isn’t one. Perhaps this doesn’t exclude Hermia from being an heiress, but I interpretate it as not being the first in line. Exactly why Juliette is the heiress and not Hermia, I’m not sure.
As for the Montys, it was either Antonio or Claudio that was set to become the heir. Based on their personalities, Claudio is the more outgoing of the two, perhaps the more charismatic one, while Antonio strikes me as rather introverted and less outspoken. I will go into more detail regarding Antonio later on. Among the sons of Claudio, that is, Mercutio and Romeo, Romeo strikes me to have been the favourite kid. He is said to be the golden child of the Monty clan and it is safe to say that he has a higher status than Mercutio in the family and is supposed to carry the Monty name forward. I will go into more detail regarding Mercutio later on.
As a disclaimer, I would like to point out that the memories in Veronaville are an utter mess, and that a lot of things are left unclear. The birth order of the children of Contessa and Consort, as well as the birth order of the children of Patrizio and Isabella, are examples of this. My interpretation is as follows: Goneril is the eldest child of Contessa and Consort, Regan is the second, Cordelia the third and Kent is the youngest (or Kent is the third and Cordelia the youngest, I'm not sure), and the age differences between them aren’t that large. With Bianca, Antonio and Claudio, I’m not so sure about the birth order, but I’m leaning towards Bianca being the eldest, based on Patrizio’s memories (Isabella doesn’t have any memories of giving birth to her children). Antonio and Claudio are twins, with Antonio being born first. Again, no large age difference between Bianca and her younger brothers. I know that when Veronaville is first loaded, Antonio is 18 days from becoming an elder and Bianca is 23 days away. Those age inconsistencies don’t really bother me. This game is loaded with them.
The Capps
In King Lear, there are the three sisters Goneril, Regan and Cordelia, daughters of King Lear. Goneril is the eldest, Regan the second born and Cordelia the youngest. Here, Cordelia is Lear’s favourite daughter. I think that this fits nicely with The Sims 2 Veronaville characters. Kent is also a character in King Lear. He is Cordelia’s best friend, possibly even more than that. Also, just like in the play, Cornwall and Albany are the respective husbands of Regan and Goneril. In this narrative, I think it is plausible to interpret Contessa as King Lear. In the play, Lear dies (of grief? I don't remember) shortly after Cordelia is executed. Similarly, Contessa died not long after Cordelia.
I admit it’s been a while since I read King Lear, so 1) I might be a bit off the script of the actual play, and 2) I’m not sure from where I’ve got all ideas for Veronaville headcanons, but anyway, here it is – my interpretation of the siblings Goneril, Regan, Cordelia and Kent in relation to each other and to their parents.
Goneril and Regan always envied their sister Cordelia because she was favoured by their parents. Goneril and Regan attempted to make their parents like them like they liked Cordelia, but they just couldn’t succeed. Cordelia was the little princess, her parents’ precious gemstone, and nothing Goneril and Regan said or did could change that fact. Interestingly, both Goneril and Regan are fortune sims, just like their parents, while Cordelia is a family sim. In Shakespeare’s King Lear, Cordelia is portrayed as very kind-hearted, which is what Lear greatly admires about her. So, to me Goneril and Regan became fortune sims, thinking this would make their parents like them more, but somehow, it was still Cordelia, who chose family over fortune, who ended up passing the test – she taught her parents that family and love are more important than fortune and money. The reason Contessa and Consort approved of this could be because they actually thought that she was right in her reasoning, and compassionate for valuing family so much. But it’s also possible that they would have approved of any aspiration, since I imagine that she was already the golden child and presumptive heiress.
Goneril seems to me to be somewhat conflicted. I’m not sure if I believe her marriage to Albany to be an arranged one. Since they both have the memory of falling in love with each other, it seems like they married for some kind of love, which of course isn’t incompatible with their marriage being arranged. However, I think that the marriage to Albany was one of the last straws that made Contessa and Consort disown Goneril. There isn’t really any evidence to this, but I think that Goneril’s parents parents didn’t approve of her love for Albany, which only made her more eager to marry him since she wanted to rebel against her parents. To me, Albany seems to be a sort of scheming kind of family sim, who managed to get Goneril to agree to have four kids. Goneril’s bio reads: “While Goneril wanted children, it certainly wasn't her idea to have this many kids. And why does she feel like Albany perhaps married her more for her money than for her love?” The childbearing has made it hard for Goneril to advance in a career and make money.
(I love the two first sentences of Albany’s bio: “Albany loves his children. Too bad they don't love each other. Can Albany convince them that family is important? And can he convince Goneril as well?” The last question could imply that Albany wants even more kids.)
Regan has clearly given up on trying to make her parents favour her: “Regan's determined to make it in business—and on her own steam instead of just her parents' money. Can she succeed without alienating her family?” Her marriage to Cornwall seems to be based more on convenience than on love, since they have never been in love with each other. They both seem to be career oriented, typical ambitious fortune sims.
Then there’s Kent, who’s just… Kent. “Kent is the black sheep of the Capp family—far more enamoured of learning than of accumulating wealth or fighting with the Montys. Will he pursue his friendship with Bianca Monty despite his family's misgivings about it?” I love Kent. (I think he could totally have an affair with Cornwall.)
Also, Miranda is the eldest grandchild of Consort and Contessa, both according to me and to Consort. (And after all, last time I took that "which sims 2 premade do you belong with?" quiz, I got Consort Capp... as opposed to 1,5 years earlier, when I got Lazlo Curious.) Shortly after Miranda, Tybalt, Juliette and Hermia were all born in a short time span, and not too long after that, Hal and Desdemona and then Ariel. The age gap between Miranda and Hal is seemingly too large if you interpret it this way, since there's only a 6 day age gap between them, but I think that if Cordelia's kids were born really close in time to one another, the age gap between Miranda and Hal shouldn't be as large. Say that Tybalt and Miranda are almost the same age, and Hermia is just slightly older than Hal. Anyway, what would the game be like without age inconsistencies? A game making sense? Hah! I'm having none of that.
The Montys
Looking at Antonio’s memories, we see that he was never in love with Hero. Whether this is an oversight by the developers, it’s impossible to say, but I personally like the theory that he is more attracted to men, something which Patrizio and Isabella might have known. I just imagine that non-heterosexual sims don’t have the easiest time in Veronaville, and that it was impossible for Antonio to openly love a man. To stop the rumours about Antonio being attracted to men, Patrizio and Isabella pressured him into marrying his good friend Hero, who could have been a former (or even current) lover of Claudio. (Thanks to @letomills for this idea, I really like it!)
Mercutio starts the game off with one single positive memory, and that is that of being potty trained by his mother. The rest are two grew up badly memories and three deaths. Romeo, on the other hand, while don’t remembering learning any toddler skills, has seven positive memories, including two grew up well and four concerning Juliette, and three negative memories which are all deaths. Additionally, Mercutio starts off the game with a red aspiration meter, with one of his fears being losing a fight to Tybalt, something that is likely to happen due to the scripted events and Tybalt’s ten points in body compared to Mercutio’s zero. Romeo, I believe, starts off the game with at least a green aspiration meter. This points to Romeo being in a quite good place mentally, unlike the Romeo upon the start of Shakespeare’s play. Another thing about Mercutio not being the heir is that in Shakespeare’s play, he is not even a Montague, although friends with Romeo. Perhaps Claudio didn’t really acknowledge Mercutio as his son, who knows.

The Monty and Capp feud
This is my take on the feud in Veronaville, heavily inspired by Cornyregans work.
The Montys are an ancient family established throughout Olympia. You can find their tracks in Veronaville, Monte Vista or more recently in Tartosa. It’s there that the family heirs currently reside in. But the story began in Veronaville, where Patrizio and Isabella are From.
The oldest living generation of the Monty family grew up in the countryside of Monte Vista. Patrizio was then the best friend of Consort Thebe and a close friend of Isabella Pantalone and Cressida Capp (it’s how I rename Contessa Capp). The four of them grew up together. However, a dispute between their respective families erupted when they became teenagers: Patrizio and Cressida wanted to marry, but her family refused to let their only heiress become a Monty; the Capp family preferred to see her marry Consort Thebe whose family is matriarchal so that the name Capp could endure.
But the will of each family, the Capp, Thebe and Monty is not what undermined the friendship that united Cressida, Patrizio and Consort. Because Consort promised to his best friend Patrizio that he would not marry Cressida and that the couple could live together. But over time, Cressida realized that while she enjoyed spending time with Patrizio, he wasn't the one she saw herself marrying. Consort then imposed itself as a rational decision for her, as her family decided. And then Cressida and Consort had much more in common.
Then Consort’s parents and Cressida’s mother died, so the two became much closer. And Cressida decided it was time to end her relationship with Patrizio. He had a lot of resentment towards Consort and felt betrayed to see his sweetheart leave him to go in the arms of his best friend. The friendship between the three of them took a hit.
Isabella then spent a lot of time with her friend Patrizio to cheer him up. She even offered him a job at his parents' company in Monte Vista to change his mind. Both became very talented chefs in the Pantalones' family restaurant. And then they decided to open their own restaurant in Veronaville. But all they shared was more than friendship by now. Both felt a strong bond between them. They eventually married, and their restaurant became their new family business.
It was shortly after that their children Claudio, Antonio and Bianca Monty were born. The couple then created a loving home to raise them, forgetting Patrizio's resentment towards his former friends Consort and Cressida. He reconnected with them, missing what they shared back then.
When Claudio became an adult, he married the love of his life, Olivia Dottore. They then continued to look after the family restaurant with Isabella and Patrizio. Together they had three children, Mercutio, Romeo and Viola; and their mother Olivia were pregnant with their last little sister, Sebastiana. Romeo had even fallen in love with Consort's granddaughter, Juliet Capp. They started dating.
Since the third generation of Monty and Capp have reconciled, it was not uncommon to meet the formerly rival family in Olivia and Claudio's restaurant. It was even there that Consort's son, Caliban, and his wife Cordelia decided to celebrate their wedding anniversary. But everything did not go as well as the couple had hoped. A fire broke out in the restaurant and took several lives, including Caliban and Cordelia—leaving their children Tybalt, Juliette and Hermia orphaned. Consort and Camilla were furious with the Monty family. Although it was a tragic accident that Claudio and Olivia could not have avoided.
It was said all over Veronaville that the Monty family was responsible for the tragedy that stroke the Capp. The restaurant had been closed for a long time, first to let the police investigate, then because of the necessary repairs. However, Claudio did not want to return to work. He was so anxious about all the Capp accusations running all over town, that he didn't even believe the police and firefighters who determined that the fire was accidental. He wanted to make his parents proud, blamed himself for the collapse of the family business they had founded. And he also felt guilty towards his son Romeo because he couldn’t see Juliette anymore; and for her, deprived of her parents. She was now raised by Consort and Cressida.
Claudio Monty then came to neglect his health, even his most important needs. He died of starvation and exhaustion just one month after the tragedy. His wife Olivia, overwhelmed by sadness, could not put her pregnancy to term. She died of complications a few days after her husband. No one thought the feud between Monty and Capp could be worse than it was then. And yet it got even worse, taking Claudio's sister-in-law, Heroisa Monty’s life. Antonio's wife was so overwhelmed by what was happening that the depression she was fighting had finally won over her. She let herself drown in the pool recently built by her family. Antonio had now to raise his two children alone, Benny and Beatrice.
Although everyone would disapprove of Romeo and Juliet's relationship in Veronaville, that didn't stop them to see each other. Juliette wanted to honor the memory of her mother, who wanted her daughter a happy marriage with the one she had chosen. And this one happened to be Romeo. Cordelia wanted her daughter to be free of the Capp’s tradition, unlike his grandmother Cressida and his aunt Goneril who had to marry out of interest because they were the heiresses of the Capp family—even though Cressida was now blessed.
In this feud, there were still some relatives of the Monty and Capp families who longed for appeasement. Many members of the new generation wanted to be freed from the traditions that obscured their futures. They wanted the feud between Patrizio and Consort Capp to end.
But this was not the case of Tybalt, Juliet's older brother. Since the death of his parents, he could no longer bear to meet the children of those they believed responsible for the fire at school. He hated Monty, and often fought with the Mercutio brothers and Romeo. So when he found out that his sister Juliette was dating one of them... His blood has only made one turn. He immediately came to confront Romeo. After that, he informed Consort of this relationship. Of course, the eldest of the family categorically refused to let his granddaughter date a Monty. But this was not the case with Cressida. Before dying of old age, the matriarch gave her blessing to Juliet, supporting her in her choice just as Cordelia had done before.
