⚔️ *:･ﾟ✧┆HEADCANON : RE/MIND SECRET EPISODE ( PART TWO )

WOW, it’s been a hot minute but I’m FINALLY happy with this. This is PART TWO of a THREE PART SERIES of HEADCANONS based around the secret episode and endings from RE/MIND. The first part ( which you can read HERE ) focuses on the CONTENT and LORE implied by the secret episode. This part focuses solely on his FIGHTING STYLE as per the boss battle at the end of the episode, whilst the third will focus more on Yozora’s CHARACTERISATION.

This HEADCANON is an amalgamation of what we can GLEAN from the Re:Mind boss battle itself, but ALSO includes a few of my own personal headcanons around Yozora’s FIGHTING STYLE AND ABILITIES, that aren’t directly EVIDENCED in the boss fight.

( WARNING: LONG POST + SPOILERS FOR RE:MIND BELOW THE CUT, INCLUDING SCREENSHOTS )

ONE. ┆ THE ORIGIN OF THE KING’S ABILITIES

It’s no secret that Yozora is equipped with a motley of abilities, most inhuman-- be it technological, or simply arcane. All of Yozora’s powers can be attributed to his astral core: the mechanical heart transplant tethered to the ichor of the stars. His standard abilities, such as basic combat skills, were obtained from his time under Gigas Corporation, training as a weapon of war whilst being primed to become the king of humanity. Some were even ‘coded’ into him, as part of his core’s programming.

His more ethereal abilities however, came at two costs. One, his own lifeforce: imbuing his crossbow and sword with his core’s astral energy. And two, his allegiance with the Watchmen of Fate, and consequent ascension as the god of death: granting him access to the Realm of the Dead along with other divine powers.

TWO. ┆ YOZORA’S FIGHTING STYLE & WEAPONS

Yozora is a considerably all-rounded fighter, with an equal balance of both melee attacks with his plasma sword, and ranged attacks with his crossbow. He excels at speed and evasion, and is particularly acrobatic. Making keen use of his surroundings, Yozora particularly likes to use setups/traps from a distance to snare his opponents, such as through his forcefields and vortexes, before launching himself into close combat. His ‘default’ strategy is playing defensive, keeping a hawkish eye on his opponent’s openings, before switching to a more violent offence.

Yozora primarily uses two forms of weapon: a crossbow and a plasma sword. Yozora uses his plasma sword for melee / close-quarters combat, whilst Yozora uses his crossbow as a mode of casting magic, similar to a mage’s staff. Lasers rarely shoot directly from the crossbow itself; rather, Yozora casts sigils with his trigger, which in turn summons lasers and forcefields.

In the absence of his weapons ( such as being too low on astral energy, rendering him unable to summon his weapons from the void ), Yozora isn’t averse to using hand-to-hand combat. This is often a last resort however, and whilst ruthless in fist-fighting, Yozora would prefer to retreat and recoup his strength.

THREE. ┆ GIGAS INHERITED POWERS / ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING

Yozora shares many abilities with the Gigas units, in particular, the Power ( red ) and Speed ( blue ) classes. The following abilities were inherited from Gigas Corporation, as a part of his military training and programming obtained from his astral core:

✧ LASERS Standard laser technology from Gigas Corporation. Being equipped with Power and Speed Gigas unit programming, Yozora wields red lasers ( Power class ) and blue lasers ( Speed class ). Red lasers are standard, whilst blue lasers are unblockable; using his blue powers expends a greater amount of his astral energy, and thus Yozora will only resort to blue lasers when he has the losing hand-- hence why Yozora primarily uses blue lasers in the second stage of his boss battle. Originally programmed to shoot directly from his crossbow, Yozora can now shoot lasers from the spiritual realm, thanks to tethering his crossbow to his astral core. The arcane nature of these lasers can be gleaned from the sigils that appear before and during their summoning. ( seen above )

✧ DANGER DASHING Like Gigas units, Yozora is able to ‘Danger Dash’ ( phase ) in short bursts, expending his astral energy to do so. Pre-ascension, Yozora could only dash without phasing completely - i.e. he is still in the physical realm, and can still be seen and hit. After ascending as the god of death, Yozora is able to phase completely into the spiritual realm, preventing him from being hit ( more details of this in the section below ).

✧ MAG ASSEMBLE A standard ability of all Gigas units, Yozora can ‘Mag Assemble’, or move things with gravitational force. This Gigas technology is attributed to the cosmic nature of the astral core, which harnesses a similar gravitational pull to stars and black holes. Yozora casts this with his crossbow. With Mag Assemble, Yozora is able to move objects considerably larger than him, such as a whole Gigas unit, as seen in the Verum Rex trailer.

✧ CHARGE STRIKE Yozora can charge his plasma blade for a short period of time, to invoke a more powerful attack. He directly imbues it with the astral energy of his Gigas core, hence why engine whirrs can be heard, and why he remains stationary during the charging. Post ascension, Yozora pairs this with Danger Dashing / phasing-- to rapidly close the distance and throw his enemies off-guard-- and steal lifeforce with each slash.

FOUR. ┆ POWERS & ABILITIES OBTAINED POST ASCENSION

Many of Yozora’s existing abilities have been enhanced, and new abilities discovered, after Yozora’s decision to ascend as the real Verum Rex-- aka the god of death. Most of these abilities and enhancements are linked to the spiritual realm, aka the Realm of the Dead, which Yozora is now able to access. The following abilities were obtained as a result of his divine ascension:

✧ ACROBATICS & ARCANE WEAPONRY Much as Yozora can Mag Assemble, Yozora isn’t completely bound to gravity himself due to his astral core-- he is able to harness or reject gravity at will-- hence why he is so weightless in his moves. He can somersault, backflip and jump with minimal exertion. However, post-ascension, he is in full synchronisation with the cosmos, and is able to float at will. Yozora can also command his weapons to float, such as his plasma blade, summoning them directly from the spiritual realm. When he is out of combat, Yozora ‘stores’ his crossbow and blade in the Realm of the Dead.

✧ PHANTOM PHASING Whilst Yozora was previously only able to phase in the physical realm, post-ascension, Yozora can phase in and out of the Realm of the Dead, creating crimson spectres in his wake. He primarily uses this as an evasive manoeuvre, pairing this with summoning lasers and unexpected assaults to really throw off his opponent.

When he phases into the spiritual plane, he cannot be hit by melee attacks or most magic. However, Thunder magic can ‘shock’ him out of the spiritual plane, as his ability to phase is linked directly to his astral core: a mechanical heart. Thunder magic essentially ‘short circuits’ the core long enough to bring Yozora back to the physical realm.

✧ OF TETRAHEDRONS & ECLIPSES - FORCEFIELDS & TRAPS Yozora has a range of traps at his disposal. One of these traps is a tetrahedron of phantom blades, which ensnares his opponent in a pyramid of plasma, before unleashing a series of lasers at them. Thunder magic can also disarm & shatter this trap, as the phantom blades are projected from his Gigas core. The other is a spherical forcefield, summoned directly from his crossbow. This is often combined with Mag Assemble to manoeuvre or freeze his opponent.

✧ “ASTRAL PROJECTION”, ANTI-GRAVITY CHAMBER What I endearingly call Yozora’s ‘disco ball’, this is the mechanical sphere Yozora summons during his DM ( desperation move ) in his boss battle. It is in fact, a projection of Yozora’s Gigas core-- and it holds exactly the same properties as his actual core, just on a grander scale.

Thanks to Gigas core’s cosmological properties ( note how it forms a galaxy within the chamber! ), the astral projection is capable of manipulating gravity to Yozora’s will. Within the chamber, Yozora can enforce anti-gravity, and suspend it just as immediately. ( When it does this, the chamber and astral projection pulse purple - the colour of karma! )

The projection also has access to the battle data stored in Yozora’s core, as a part of the standard Gigas technology. Because of this, Yozora can summon ‘creations’ of himself and the Gigas units, as seen in the boss battle. Note that Yozora can only ever summon large creations within the chamber; this is because they are all projected by the sphere. Yozora can only project creations of himself or Gigas units, as he has the most knowledge of their battle data.

Eventually, Yozora collapses the chamber and the astral projection, which in turn, collapses all the gravity inside it, creating a vortex that pulls everything in. He can also summon this vortex without his astral projection, as seen in the Verum Rex trailer: pulling all the Gigas units in to strike them down.

✧ “EVENT HORIZON” - LIFE DRAINING VACUUM Inspired by this tweet, noting the similarity between this particular move and scientific diagrams of black holes. Yozora can summon a vacuum with his crossbow, which draws in anything that comes into contact with it, much like how a black hole consumes all light in its peripheral. A black hole reduces all matter atom by atom, and Yozora does exactly this when anything enters his vacuum. As the god of death, it is Yozora’s role to sever body from soul to reincarnate you-- Yozora literally reduces your corporeal form in an effort to reap your soul.

As per the ‘anatomy’ of a black hole ( as shown in the diagram above ), Yozora is the ‘singularity’, and the mouth of the vacuum is the ‘event horizon’ - aka, the point of no return. Sora reached the point of no return after abusing the power of waking, and Yozora is the singularity which meets him at the end of it. The event horizon is the Final World, which is quite literally an endless horizon. This move is not only representative of Yozora’s role in the universe, but the purpose he was built for. Much like a black hole, he was created to the the endless void to consume the Verum Regina’s endless light. Yozora has two variations of this ability: a quicker vacuum done within close-quarters ( seen below ), or slower more powerful vacuum done at range ( seen above ).

Through this move, Yozora drains Sora’s lifeforce, but also steals his healing items. Because of the necrotic nature of his role, Yozora only knows how to harm and not to heal-- in other words, he has no independent means of restoring life, including to himself. Yozora drains life from others, and resorts to using their healing potions and Kupo coins as the only means of recovering himself.

✧ THE KEYBLADE THIEF - SOUL ABSORPTION Perhaps the most interesting ability of all, Yozora has the ability to absorb Sora’s keyblade-- and all of its powers-- and merge it with his plasma blade. Note that he is physically taking Sora’s keyblade, and not merely replicating it, as Sora is unable to summon his keyblade when Yozora is in possession of it. Yozora can only do this for a limited amount of time, as he is literally binding the keyblade-- i.e. extension of Sora’s heart-- with his own life force. Yozora cannot absorb regular weapons, as keyblades are bound and powered by the heart, much like his own crossbow and sword. He is essentially, as the god of death, stealing a part of Sora’s soul and using it for himself.

With Sora’s keyblade, Yozora has access to abilities he would not otherwise have in his regular form, such as the use of elemental magic. Upon releasing Sora’s keyblade, Yozora summons phantoms of it from the spiritual realm in a barrage of heavy attacks.

1. Alec Lightwood. This one should be obvious if you know me. What I love the most about Alec is that he's so straightforward in everything he does. He protects without holding back, he fights without holding back, he self-sacrifices without holding back. He's intent to do the right thing, always, no matter the cost.He's honest to a fault. He owns up to his mistakes and apologizes for them. He's still learning and more importantly, he's willing to learn and improve.He's very vulnerable, never puts himself first and doesn't know his own worth. He holds himself to inhuman standards and he'd tear himself apart for the people he loves. He's a secret softie and a dork.And also, unlike some other Shadowhunters I know, he thinks before he acts, extensively, pondering every possible angle. That's a very big plus ;)

2. Magnus Bane. This, too, is probably no surprise at all. The thing I admire most about him is how he's experienced so much pain and hardships, had to fight tooth and nail for everything he has, and yet when faced with life's cruelty he still chooses to be kind and patient and tenderhearted. He's forgiving, maybe more than he should be, because he believes everyone deserves a second chance.His power doesn't corrupt him. He's vicious when he needs to be, but never when it's undeserved. He's a force to be reckoned with, smart and inventive and deadly.He feels so very deeply. Sometimes his emotions take over and he acts on them without thinking and that's something I can relate to very much. I also adore his passive-aggressive side. Petty Magnus is the best.And lastly: He's just fabulous. From the way he moves to the way he dresses. Like, I have not a single fashion-y bone in my body but wow. Just look at him.

3. Jace Wayland. I had a rocky start with that one though I think I can be forgiven for that, given how inconsiderate, stupidly impulsive and self-righteous Jace was in season one. And while I always understood why he acted that way that didn't change how much he annoyed me then.But with time he really grew on me. He's a fragile soul full of abandoment issues and angst, and he's scared and lonely which he very rarely shows. Despite this he opens his heart to the people he loves and trusts them and makes himself vulnerable to them. He cares, even if he sometimes tries to hide it.He's egoistical in a child-like way and he might be harsh occasionally, but he wants what's best for his loved ones and would follow them to the end of the world, morality be damned.He's the kind of guy who'd rush into a hopeless battle with a stupid one-liner and a wink, and still somehow manage to come out on top. I respect that energy.

4. Isabelle Lightwood. She's whip-smart (see what I did there ;D) ambitious and self-confident without being arrogant. She's the best fighter of the bunch and only lets Jace win because she knows he needs the limelight more than she does.She's passionate and wild. She doesn't take no for an answer, sometimes against reason and she'd break any rule if she thought it was unjust.She loves fiercely. She's as self-sacrificing as Alec, but in an understated way that tends to get overlooked. Her emotional intelligence allows her to take care of her brothers in a way they never could themselves.And finally: I'm a dress enthusiast and Izzy Delivers *hearteyes*(I'm still high-key frustrated that all Izzy-centered arcs sucked (got addicted to a drug, got addicted to a different drug, dated a stupid mundane for no reason at all). It's so unfair.)

5. Asmodeus. He is the perfect villain. He's elegant, he's charismatic, he's extremely powerful but doesn't get his own hands dirty because that's beneath him. He knows exactly how to play people so they'll do what he wants them to do. He's cruel, he's eloquent, he's the exact right amount of dramatic. He doesn't care about collateral damage. He knows how to twiste the knife for maximum effect and he'll do it with a sharp smile. He's perfect.

Red as blood

Warnings: blood, mentions of killing and death

Redcap: They are known to be bloodlust goblin like creatures that can run really fast, have minor magic and gain their powers from dipping their red caps into the blood of their victims (some even say, they die when the blood on their caps dries). In other folklores they are the spirits of those who have been killed in the battles in the woods between England and Scotland. I decided to adapt them a little.

Taking a walk in the woods to calm your mind a little had seemed like a good idea at noon. Leaving the path to follow a little squirrel deeper into the woods also had seemed like a good idea in the afternoon. But getting lost in said woods wasn’t a good thing when the sun began to set. Its rays barely made it through the leaves of the trees above you, littering the ground in moving shadows when the wind blew through them. You had been in this forest countless of times. Yet you never had been this lost. It seemed like you were going in circles even though you used all your knowledge to make sure you kept going north to where your hometown should be.

You tied your jacket tighter around your body. Without the sun’s warmth the little autumn breeze made a shiver run down your back. In the quiet of the forest it almost sounded as if someone was whispering sweet nothings in a language you didn’t understand. Taking a deep breath and listening to the sounds around you, it did indeed sound like whispering. Turning to see where the voice was coming from, you saw a little light moving in the distance. Was there someone else lost? Or maybe they knew their way out.

When the light seemed to die down, you hastily moved towards the light source. But every time you seemed to come closer to the light, it dimmed down and flickered back to live a couple of metres in front of you. Cursing you picked up your speed and ran towards the light when it stilled between two large tree trunks. Just when you reached the trees making an opening onto a small clearing, your feet were ripped from below you, making you topple to the ground with a loud scream. Struggling to get to your feet again, you found your feet and legs bound, numbness spreading through your body, so even moving your lips to form a shout for help was costing way too much energy. The only thing that didn’t seem affected was your heat, which was beating so furiously that it might jump out from your chest.

“You should not be here,” you suddenly heard a voice saying, naked feet moving into your field of vision. Your heart was beating even faster now. The words sounded weirdly foreign to you even though the voice had spoken in your mother tongue. Muttering under their breath, the person freed your tangled feet from the trap, the edge of a cold knife pressed into your skin before it tore through the ropes.

When you turned around to face your saviour, your breath got stuck in your throat. The man who had saved you had bright, wet looking red hair and was watching you with the gaze a predator would watch their pray through almost fox like red eyes. A shiver ran down your back and you felt goosebumps along you skin. In his hand he held a jarred blade which was stained with dark red spots, his long fingers with black claw like nails curled tight around the handle. Apparently amused by the terrified look in your eyes, his lips spread into a crooked grin, exposing a row of sharp teeth.

“Are you scared, girl?” He asked, crouching down next to you and raking his hand through his hair which had fallen into his eyes. To your surprise his hand was tinted the same red colour when he did so and a metallic smell spread through the air. Grinning even wider when you tried to scoot backwards, he let his tongue dart out between his dark, chapped lips and licked at his palm before wiping it on his ripped and torn pants.

“Is... Is that blood?” You stuttered, still panting heavily. “What if it was?” He answered, crawling closer to you, the metallic smell becoming stronger. With inhuman speed he clasped his clawed hand over your mouth before the scream of terror that had formed in your chest could leave your lips. “You would not want to scream in a situation like this. Who knows what murderous creatures might hear you,” he said while slowly retreating his hand, his sharp eyes studying your every move. “Murderous creatures like you?” You dared to ask which made something close to a laugh slip the lips of the man. It sounded so wrong as if he wasn’t supposed to laugh, as if his vocal cords didn’t know how to form the sound.

“You flatter me, girl.” “What are you?” You had never heard of or seen a creature like him. Your grandma used to tell you all kinds of stories of witches, banshees, werewolves or dwarfs but he didn’t seem to fit into any of the categories even though now that he was close to you, he seemed rather small. “Your kind has different names for us. But the one closest to what we are called in our mother tongue would be Redcap.” You gasped and scooted back from him until your back hit the trunk of a tree, the pain almost went unnoticed with the amount of adrenaline coursing through your body, stuck in a place between fight and flight. Showing his canines in a grin, he chuckled dark and deep in his chest. “So you have heard of us?” “I... You... You don’t look like what I had imagined them,” you stuttered, looking up at him with terrified eyes. He chuckled again and slowly walked towards you again. “I have just replenished my strength, human. I am not allowed to kill again this soon,” he stated and secured his blade on his hip. Not that he would need it to harm you. From what you knew about Redcaps they were gifted with inhuman strength and speed and were able to do minor magic.

Slowly rising to your feet, you tapped off the leaves stuck to you. When you looked up, a yelp escaped your lips. The Redcap had moved way closer to you than you had thought and stared at you with his bright red eyes. “Someone is scared really easily for being as deep in the forest as they are,” he grinned. “I... I didn’t mean to end up here. I got lost and-“ “And then you thought following a Will-o’-the-wisp into a trap was a good idea to get out of here?” “I didn’t think it was a Will-o’-the-wisp,” you whispered embarrassed of yourself. “Well, get out of here, human. There are many more murderous creatures near the heart of the forest,” the Redcap said, turning his back to you.

“I don’t know where I am, how am I supposed to just get out of here?” You blurted out, grabbing his wrist. Before you could even recognize what was happening, the Redcap had twirled around and pressed you against a tree, one of his clawed hands tight around your neck. His teeth were bared and an inhuman hissing sound left his throat. Your senses were filled with the putrid smell of blood radiating off of him, but beneath that laid a deep earthy smell like he was the forest himself.

“Careful, human. I might just disrespect my master’s wishes and slowly tear you apart piece by piece, bathing in the sound of your screams and your pleas to make me stop until I wrap my hands around your pretty throat and squeeze until I hold your soul in my hands,” he hissed through bared teeth, dangerously close to the skin of your throat, his hot breath causing you to shiver. You knew that he was talking about killing you but somehow his voice and the proximity made it sound like something way more sensual and you couldn’t help yourself, leaning your head back and baring your throat for him. You felt his breath hitch, his eyes going wide as he looked up at you as if he couldn’t believe that you were willingly exposing yourself like this, putting your life in his hands.

He retreated from you, shaking his head in disbelief, making a couple of red droplets fall from his hair and chuckling quietly. “Have you lost your mind, human?” You shook your head, not able to speak; afraid your voice might break and give away how much the Redcap was affecting you. “Follow me, girl,” he spoke slowly, his eyes staying fixated on you when he made his way to the edge of the small clearing. “Where are you taking me?” You asked, following him on shaky legs. “Out of these woods, you do not belong here, human. The creatures of the night will be waking soon and they will not hesitate to do everything to you, they want to do to your body and your soul.” Dark images of Unseelies and other creatures doing unspeakable things blew up your mind and you couldn’t hold the whimper that escaped your lips. Walking close to the Redcap, you couldn’t stop looking into the shadows that suddenly seemed so much darker now that you had left the clearing.

Noticing your change in behaviour, the Redcap snorted. “You are not afraid of me but of the mere stories you know of the creatures coming out at night?” “I... I don’t know how much of those stories of the Unseelies and their powers is true,” you whispered, your voice trembling with fear. “Humans tend to exaggerate. And you have already met an Unseelie that did not meet the image you had of them, girl.” His try to reassure you did nothing but only to place another fear inside you: Of course he was part of the dark creatures calling themselves Unseelie. It took him a couple of steps to realize that you had stopped dead in your tracks, noticing your mistake in easily trusting him. He turned around and raised his eyebrows in a silent question.

“You just bound me to you by doing me a favour,” you breathed out. The Redcaps eyes widened at your statement, the corners of his mouth turning upwards in a sly grin. “You are not as naïve, as I thought you were, human. But Redcaps are not like the dark fairies, lulling you in and then showing their true colours. We are simple creatures. No need to hide our true nature and our intentions. But I might have been in their company far too long,” he chuckled again, stretching his clawed hand out to you. “You do not owe me anything, girl. It brought me enough joy that the one, who set up the trap you ran into, will find it empty, just your sweet scent lingering, knowing that I found you before it did.” For some heartbeats you just looked at each other. Your human eyes finding his piercing red gaze. It might have been his magic or just your sheer fascination with him, but you took the hand he held out for you to grab. The last thing you saw before the world around you went blurry was the bright colour of his hair.

The next thing you realized were the stars above you, shining in all their glory. “I thought it would be faster like this,” the Redcap’s voice tore through the silence, not bothering to explain further how he had managed to bring you back to the road in front of the woods that would lead you back home. He stood next to you, his breath coming out in little huffs of air like he had just run a race. When you stayed silent and just stared at his chest moving with his breaths, he bowed before you mockingly. “What a pleasure it has been to be of your service, mortal,” he said just as mockingly, walking slowly backwards into the shadows of the trees.

“Wait, do you have a name?” You asked him when he turned his back to you and took a step into the woods again. “Why would you want to know my name, human?” The Redcap asked, turning his head over his shoulder, his gaze sharp and piercing, eyes glowing unnaturally in the dark. “You cannot banish or bind Redcaps with the use of their name.” Taken aback by the venom in his voice, you stayed silent and just looked at him with big eyes, none of that had been your intention. But you should have known that the magic folk always was a bit special about their names. “When I was born into this world, I was not given a name your tongue could possibly pronounce,” he said, tuning his body around to face you again. “But my first human master gave me a name when he bound me to him.” Looking at you with knitted brows through the too long hair of his fringe, he cocked his head to the side as if he was trying to figure out if he could trust you with his name.

“You will not see me again, mortal. What use has my name for you?” “I can call you something else than Redcap in my memories,” you said, a sting in your chest at his harsh words. Of course it would only be rational to never see him again. He had only let you live because his master had not allowed him to kill again so soon and he was violent and murderous by nature. But he also was a fascinating creature and even seemed so much more human despite the way he looked and talked. You would not last a day in my world.” “I didn’t ask for forever. Just take me away for some time,” you begged the Redcap, grabbing onto the fabric of his shirt which must have been white at some point. “You are out of your mind,” he said but there was no real pressure behind the words, sounding more confused than anything. “I’ve never met anyone like you before,” you whispered. “Me neither, girl.” He gently took your chin between his fingers, careful not to scratch your skin, dark eyes scanning your face curiously. “You may call me Kihyun, human. Do not use my name unwisely, as I can feel the pull if you do use it,” he whispered and dragged his sharp nail over your bottom lip, drawing blood this time. You flinched but his grip on you was too strong, so you couldn’t move back. Chuckling at your reaction he let his tongue dart out and lick up the few drops of blood he drew. It wasn’t quite a kiss but it somehow felt like one.

“Now, do not start calling my name in your sleep, or I might just appear,” Kihyun breathed and before you could respond, he was gone. You thought you could see his bright hair flashing between the trees but it might just have been wishful thinking.

“Kihyun,” you tried rolling his name on your tongue and you could swear the wind carried the sound of his chuckle.

I was messing around with a Gemsona generator and i got some ideas for a new group of OCs

bare in mind that the original picture i got off the generator is a starting point; owing to its limitations, the monstery/more inhuman traits i like can’t be represented, and I will probably change these designs as I mess around with their concepts more.

here is the original pic i am using as a starting point:

basic concept: they are aberrant, mutant Gems (and one sidekick who has the One Braincell) created by Autobot researchers attempting to find a workaround the destructive method Gems reproduce. Ultimately the project didn’t have results they wanted, but these gals were born from it. They have since become a group of intersteallar superheroes who go around as a band of muisciians playing rock music, doing beloved concerts on thousands of worlds and fighting villains and solving mysteries off the clock. imagine a combination of scooby-doo and Teen Titans, but doing music for a living, and you got the idea

as a result of them not being normal Gems, they exist outside the usual Gem caste boundaires and do not have the functions or purpose of regular Gems. Thus, they look very diferent from other Gems of their type, and have entirely different abilities. Energon was a vital component in their creation, and its mutagenic effects have created unusual effects.

From left to right:

Volcanic Obsidian: the main character, in a sense, and the Big Mom of the group. The gem trio are all Mom Tier personalities and superheroines, but she is the most powerful and the most obvious example. She is absolutely massive, having absorbed enormous amounts of materials to grow itno a far larger gem than expected. Is NOT a fusion, she’s just unusually big. Is rather gloomy and introspective, and takes all the burdens on her own shoulders. (in proper art, would be super thicc.) Probably has mild monstery traits. When she gets fired up, she can create lava from her body and manipulate in various ways, and she cries lava as well, though it is only dangerous to things she wants to harm. Compassionate, sweet (though she’s usually too mellow to make it obvious), she’s a natural leader even though she thinks little of herself. Very affectionate to smaller beings!

Emerald: She knows she’s hot shit, and she’s damn sure YOU will know how damn awesome she is. Just look at that grin, she knows what’s up. A badass lady, showboat and born to totally own the stage, she has a very punkish ‘SCREW YOU, COME AT ME!!!’ sense of bravado. VERY intelligent and good at pretty much anything she does, she has a sense of purpose as the team’s technician. Tends to propose the schemes, and they’re usually kinda bonkers! Very supportive, in her own shouty way. (Her proper design should probably be pretty bottom heavy.) Can convert her magical energies into a liquid form she can shape into various constructs, at the cost of weakening herself overall.

Shpalerite: She is the smallest one but she is still VERY wide for her size, not so much overcooked as heavily compressed, and she’s actually a heavier hitter than anyone but Volcanic Obsidian. She’s quite extroverted, in a strange mixture of ‘peppy’ and ‘boisterous bruiser’; she kicks ass, tosses cars around, and then flexes, blowing smooches at any bystanders. She’s cheerfully a meathead, and charges headlong with a confident smile. She has a LOT of self-image based around being a hero, and has opinions on proper heroic behavior. She can absorb magic into her body and make herself even stronger, with an armored form that resembles shaped crystal; however this form is very heavy and difficult to move, so she flows in an out of it for different attacks.

Squishy: Not actually a human; she was originally intended as a size comparison placeholder, but has become a permanent member. In her proper concept, she is a slime/ooze alien, able to shapeshift in a variety of wyas (though she cannot change her substance). Open-hearted and idolizing them, she is a recent member of the group and looks up to them all, and serves as a stabilizing influence. Despite her relative lack of power, she keeps them grounded and is the only one with real common sense. Her powres are based around raw biomass; the more she has, the stronger she is, but she burns through it whenever she transforms herself, typically by compressing her body to make armor or defense-breaking attacks. In her default state, her body is fluid but very firm, hence her nickname!

Squishy: The baseline to compare them from. At a human height, at 5′7.

Sphalerite: 5′0. smoll but wide!

Emerald: 7 ft-ish.

Volcanic Obsidian: 13ft and up. she big.

ok this could have been a fun essay if i had actually ever finished it or gone in depth with any of it or really Made it an essay rather than an opinion piece.

but it’s so old that that’s unlikely to happen at this point, and i did mean to post it eventually, so here it is, under a cut. it’s just sith triumvirate feelings.

i really enjoy the sort of ?not villain decay, i think that’s a different thing, but something in the same like, order of concepts? we get with sion after nihilus is introduced

like, sion is introduced with essentially a survival horror scenario where no one knows what the fuck is going on, as “a perversion of the dark side” more than e.g. malak ever was, “if that’s the new dark lord we should all be scared” kind of deal?

he’s got his own brand of horror, and remains genuinely very threatening in his own right even to the very end, but there’s pretty much always an option to try to talk him down or argue, in a way that there really isn’t with nihilus--he’s fucked up and threatening, yeah, very much not a Nice Person or probably remotely sympathetic to normal people, and also can be argued to fall into the “lovecraftian abomination sith lord” category himself (there’s a good post about that i don’t have the energy to go looking for right now). but relative to darth nihilus, and the amount of cosmic horror shit going on THERE, he’s still fundamentally just a guy with yeah some fucked up supernatural shit going on, but still fairly comprehensible human motivations. say what you will about the morality of things like “revenge” and “trying to prove yourself via murder” or his issues about traya, none of those are wildly outside what most people could plausibly come up with, it’s more about the methods and the supernatural shit being thrown in (i would say that how i interpreted his ideas about the force and his own existence is weird and, yeah, probably outside the realm of what most people would come up with, but it makes sense to me from a mental illness perspective, so, again, not inhuman by any means)

but nihilus? even visas’s take on nihilus (and i think there’s probably some argument to be had about whether that description is actually reflective of any kind of ideology on his part or if she’s reading what he showed her like that in an attempt to make some kind of sense of it and his Actual motivations are really no more than hunger), that sort of “the world is so ugly and chaotic it should be destroyed, and i am doing a good thing by wiping everything out completely” what i call omnicidal depression occasionally, is NOT within the purview of normal human motivation. in my experience even most of the people irl who talk about wanting the end of the world, if they really mean that, just mean because of humanity or have some misguided ideas equating capitalism to human nature. visas’s description of what was up with nihilus didn’t sound like that, it sounded like the issue was life itself. that’s already getting into “lovecraftian abomination” rather than “nasty human villain” territory, and the fact that he actually has the power to go through with it...

like, of course the sith are scary already, even with only the Standard Set of Force Powers, they’re supposed to be a real threat, and sion’s got his own weird creepy shit, but adding that kind of eldritch abomination factor just raises the stakes so much that by comparison the guy who’s literally too angry to die, whose main motivation is the destruction of the entire jedi order at all costs, who doesn’t care about power or glory or not getting hurt, only about Death and Carnage and Revenge, seems perfectly reasonable to like, argue with, even try to talk to your side

and the deleted scene where they fight, if it can be called that, reinforces that difference in power level/stakes even more--that even sion who wants to fight Everyone most of the time, and generally believes himself capable of it, doesn’t really want to start shit with nihilus unnecessarily, that even with all the drama and “jesus christ what the fuck how are you not dead” around him nihilus is a lot stronger, enough to not even bother with a lightsaber

and then also the fact that sion has multiple lines that are either obviously referential to vader or just identical to vader lines? i don’t think that’s a coincidence (would be difficult) or purely to point out that this is Star Wars Media™. star wars does have a Tendency to reuse lines, but i think there generally is some actual significance to which ones get copied where

like, that’s got to be deliberate, making him into some sort of parallel to vader--the terrifying Openly Sith face of the empire, but who eventually was redeemed, who chose his son in the end--and of course sion doesn’t get a redemption arc per se, and i’m honestly glad for it, but weren’t there a couple throwaway dialogue options where you could have the exile Want to go in that direction or something? i need to replay this

and even without that--i think even the comparison sets him up as more i guess human? i can’t words this right sorry, in contrast to nihilus, who is utterly beyond comprehension, beyond being reasoned with, for whom even the faintest suggestion of redemption would be impossible, even absurd--the tragic side of what the dark side can do to people, as much as the fear

where nihilus has no OT parallel imagery, he’s just his own thing

there really isn’t any point to this, no thesis or argument or anything, it’s just a feeling i had more than a year ago cleaned up a little bit
