Imagine you are on a night out in the city and decide to go wild in a pricey night club, suffering an svt episode due to doing copious amounts of cocaine and alcohol and your friend drives you to the hospital. There they do an ablation... declaring it as an emergency surgery but it destroys your heart's conductive system instead. You end up with burned valves and a stunned right ventricle.... "Their rhythm is always fucked up when they come out of surgery. That's why keep them here with us in the CVICU." But why are you so pale? Why does your pulse throb all odd, a meek irregular pulsing instead of a strong regular one?

I would wake up terrified out of my mind as my heart barely beats. Perhaps a doctor in the CVICU takes an interest in this poor, battered heart of mine

I just switched to pediatric cvicu from adult cvicu and the amount of baby cuddles is just 🥹 like a lot of our kids are tinys still and have open chests but when they get extubated they just wanna be held so I’ll just hold them and chart it’s the best part of my day. I like have to keep myself on track sometimes because I just wanna hold them and comfort them lmao

Hey, sweet tumblr friends and followers!

I was debating on sharing this publicly, but then I realized I wanted to keep people I interact with in the know.

Life has a funny way of getting your attention; for me, it was waking up in pain, and within a few short hours, I was admitted into the CVICU. Gah, that sounds so dramatic, and sure, in the moment, it was a very scary experience. But please know: I am fine, I am getting stronger every day, and the best news, my heart is strong (I was just stressing it out a bit).

I don't tell you all of this to make anyone worry or to seek some kind of weird attention. I wanted to share this info for 2 reasons:

1. Eep! Please forgive me! I can already hear some of y'all saying, "don't be sorry!", but seriously: I am so very behind on reblogs, responding to DMs and Asks. I'm asking if y'all can please be patient and gracious as I attempt to catch up (and it's quite possible that I won't). If I have overlooked you, please know it was not intentional.

2. I'm back! I know, I know... it really hasn't been that long, but it's been a long 2 weeks for your girl. 😜 I'm finally feeling like myself again, and I even opened up my docs yesterday, so my hope is to start interacting with y'all again this week.

I love and miss y'all dearly! Thank you so much for your understanding! 🖤

out of all adult intensive care units i think i like being in CVICU the best, specifically because there is So Much Shit Happening in CVICU always. i really enjoy the more chaotic atmosphere

So real quick, the best way y’all can improve yoir IV skills is by: . 1. Introducing yourself to the patient. . 2. Sanitise your hands using alcohol cleanser. . 3. Stay calm, prepared & put on gloves. . 4. Re-check the vein, Feel rather than look. . 5. Clean the patients skin with the alcohol wipe. . 6. Use an appropriate cannula size. . 7. Remove the needle cover. . 8. Flashback of blood is seen in the hub. . 9. Advance the rest of the cannula into the vein. . 10. Remove the needle. . 11. Dispose of your gloves & equipment in the clinical waste bin, ensure the patient is comfortable. . 12. Smile and tell them it’s your first time doing this!! Night 1 I had a balloon pump 1:1 and I fucking hated it and night 2 I had 2 patients that had both been taken off ecmo that same day and it was better. I am truly a micu nurse stop trying to make me be a cvicu nurse

Love going to visit family because my grandfather is finally out of CVICU and immediately hitting hit with "Did you get a haircut recently? It's not all the same length. That's going to drive me crazy haha! Makes me want to cut it!" from my grandma. Makes me feel great. :( /sarc

Exciting news I wanted to share since you’re a NICU rn :) I accepted a new job in a very prestigious CVPICU ppl fly from all over the world to have their heart operated on there!!! (It’s mostly babies and some kids waiting for new hearts! I was feeling so drained being in adult CVICU and now I feel so excited and like a new nurse again I start in a few weeks ! Plus I get to wear any color scrubs I want I’m thinking pink 🤣Any tips for transitioning to caring for babies? Hope you have a happy weekend!!!

So I’ve been a new nurse like and grand total of 4mos. I’m on a cardiac step down unit, but I was in the cvicu for about month but decided to downgrade to pcu cuz my facility’s icu was very intense and too much for a new grad. Anyway, the more I’m on the floor, the more I realize that I don’t care to have long term relationships with my patients and I’m thinking of doing cath lab at some point. The only thing that concerns me is being on call cuz I live like 40 - 50 min away from my job depending on how heavy traffic is and I being called and then having to work your scheduled shift can be a doozy.

I’m coming up on a year of being new surgical tech and I totally feel you on trying to figure out the areas that fit you and also just what you’re willing and able to do and give. It’s so good to have an early idea of those things like what level of patient interaction and care do you want to have, the level of intensity for where you’re at, your hours, all of that yep!

A lot of the OR nurses I work with have said they went from working on the floor to going to cath lab and stuck with it for a long time and liked it so it probably would be a good fit for you. Being on call does make things kinda iffy sometimes I totally get why you have worries about it, I live a good 25 minutes away from the hospital I work at and I really do be cutting that 30 minute call back time soooo close sometimes

And yes being called and then having to work your shift after can be rough, that’s happening to me only once and I did get a few hours knocked off my shift so I could rest and then come back in just later but I was still like ~recovering~ lol so I absolutely understand the hesitation. Depending on how often you’d even have to be on call and whether you’d be taking evening call or overnight call there may be some flexibility though so you never know! It. may be doable if you feel it’s right, rooting for you whatever the outcome is!
