Stay calm, prepared & put on gloves. . 4. Re-check the vein, Feel rather than look. . 5. Clean the patients skin with the alcohol wipe. . 6. Use an appropriate cannula size. . 7. Remove the needle cover. . 8. Flashback of blood is seen in the hub. . 9. Advance the rest of the cannula into the vein. . 10. Remove the needle. . 11. Dispose of your gloves & equipment in the clinical waste bin, ensure the patient is comfortable. . 12. Smile and tell them it’s your first time doing this!! Note in the 2nd photo profession is listed as “trade” or “Calling” Anastasia Roche was also a native of Gundagai. Anastasia travelled to Egypt and served with Eleanor Perry at the same hospitals during WWI. Anastasia was also awarded the 1st Class Military (Red Cross) Cross for “conspicuous service”. Due to the high volume of casualties, patients were also cared for on hospital ships. Anastasia and Eleanor truly experienced nursing in the trenches and were denied respite, assistance and acknowledgment of their service on their return. Top 30 Instagram Accounts Every Nurse Should Follow

Instagram has quickly become one of the go-to social media apps for nurses across the globe. Thanks in large part to its simplicity and image-only format, it is perfectly designed to lend itself to all nurses, regardless of age, gender or location. It can be a quick relief during a short lunch break, or provide a much-needed escape after a long shift. However it’s used, it’s easy to understand why so many nurses continue to turn to Instagram to get their social media fix.

While Facebook is still hailed as the king of social media, some might be surprised to see that Instagram – not twitter, Google+, or LinkedIn –boast the second largest number of monthly users out of the major social media platforms.

This growing member base naturally led to more valuable content being shared on a daily basis due simply to the increase in more reputable accounts. Unfortunately, the growing number of not-so-reputable accounts has made it difficult to sift through the crowd and determine which accounts are truly worth following.

Thankfully for nurses, we went ahead and did the sifting for you. How many of you all are Diabetic? Well, here’s my facial expression when Im hypoglycemic my fellow nurses. How many of you check your glucose in the morning? . Let's re-up this afternoon with some pathophysoliogy of Diabetes Mellitus knowledge. In a nutshell, Diabetes is Insulin deficiency. In other words, Your body is unable to receive glucose uptake as energy from the cells, so your brain and other vital organs are looking for other sources of energy, which it oxidizes all of your fats and all of your proteins leading to increase fatty acid & amino acid release. Hence (diabetic ketoacidosis). . Guess what else your body accumulates as it's searching for energy? Yes, More sugar!!!! Therefore, glucose continues to accumulate in your bloodstream because your insulin from your pancreas is unable to pull the glucose from your blood as energy. . This is why you are always hungry and thirsty. The 3 P's polyphagia (Hungry) polydipsia (Thirsty) and polyuria (urination). People with diabetes type1 or type2 need to manage their disease to stay healthy because if you don't keep your blood sugar in check then it can take a toll on nearly every organ affecting your heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and other organs. . Now according to “The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma” recommends conducting a primary survey on all injured patients in order to identify all life-threatening injuries. The survey includes “ABCDE” which stands for? 1. Airway, Blood pressure, Cardiac performance, Disease, Excretion. . 2. Anxiety, Bones, Confusion, Dementia, Emotional status. . 3. Arterial pressure, Brain, Cardiac performance, Delirium, Electrolyte balance. . 4. Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure. . 😷Lacerations to the foot caused by a boat propeller! Able to utilize a tourniquet which was placed on the patient’s upper thigh which stopped the bleeding until the patient could be taken to a trauma center. . 😷Motorboat propeller injuries can be extensive due to severe mechanical damage and contamination with uncommon marine organisms. Blood loss and contamination may be underestimated at time of admission. . 😷Therapeutic triple antibiotic management and frequent irrigation and debridement are recommended. . 👶🏽🩺🫀TAG THAT L&D, NICU & PEDS REGISTERED NURSE😷🍼 . “It Takes a Believer To Know” and being a special person to become a nurse, but that's even more true for those who go on to become Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) @CardiacStrong nurses. . 😷These dedicated professionals care for the most fragile patients there are–sick & premature newborns like this baby who was born prematurly at 27 weeks gestation weighing only 1.5 pounds (700g). . 😷Since this newborn was premature, his lungs weren't fully developed which he suffered from a neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, & this occurs almost exclusively in premature infants. . 😷It is characterized by insufficient production of surfactant, which normally helps in keeping the lungs inflated and prevents the collapse of the alveoli. . . 😷He required 3 doses of pulmonary surfactant for his lungs and had just completed antibiotic treatment for a possible early sepsis and the good news was he was still in stable condition! . Greetings my fellow nurses with today’s Surgical Saturday and don’t forget to swipe right. . This patient was an industrial worker who got their arm stuck in a machine for shaping & cutting metal & wood. The machine grabbed their arm and the patient almost suffered a complete amputation. . The forearm begins at the ulna and radius, attached to the distal end of the humerus. The wrist and finger flexors are located on the anterior side of the forearm . The median nerve, an important nerve of thumb opposition which runs over the pronator teres at the elbow and dives between the flexor digitorum superficialis and profudus before entering the wrist at the carpal tunnel. Now remember your anatomy my fellow @NURSEpiration Nurses.🙌🏽 . In cases of severe wrist or forearm lacerations, the median nerve can often be damaged, causing atrophy of the thenar (thumb) muscles. The posterior side of the wrist contains many wrist and finger extensors, and contains the ulnar nerve, which is important for hand sensation and extension. So hopefully this is bringing back your nursing school memory lane of anatomy & physiology. . Without an intricate combination of many small and large muscles in the forearm, a wide array of fine motor skills would be impossible.
