1.) She is frequently put down in the og 80s comics due to being more expressive and open with her emotions, and ever since the og she has frequently been painted as just eyecandy (ignoring her sexual trauma) when her character is so incredibly complex. Special mention goes to red hood and the outlaws (2011) (written by a sexual harasser) for just terrible stand out awful reasons which will be seen in the below photos and her 2015 solo for combining her vapid portrayal there with her cartoon quirkiness to culminate in a trash comic that is just her basically being the born sexy yesterday trope.
2.) 2011 reboot, in RHATO she was turned into a walking fetish by retconning most parts of her character and erasing all personality displayed in the past 30 years of comics. in that iteration she is only interested in sex and is dehumanised and ‘exotic’. she ‘forgot’ all her past relationships because she doesn’t care about them only sex. her only purpose in that book is as a powerhouse and a sex/love interest for one of the male characters who view her as a trophy because she used to date someone he dislikes (in this continuity) let’s also not forget that she was first created just to be a love interest and although she did grow into a hood character at some point, she is treated horribly time and time again by writers because of conflicting ships. she’s written as a ‘vixen’ as opposed to another ‘good girl’ female character who is shipped with the same guy in canon
3.) Her original characterization was fairly decent, however it still had her stuck in relationships with men that weren't very good for her and had overtones of racism with how she was written. Post that her characterization was slowly chipped away at, some writers with harder sledgehammers than others, culminating in current writing where she's dismissed as "just a fling" to her original counterpart (Dick Grayson) to prop up a different ship (Dick Grayson/Barbara Gordon) and frequently has been used as eye candy in other comics. Simply open the first comic of Red Hood and the Outlaws, which obliterated her personality to make her associate/be subservient to the Red Hood, and you'll find plenty of panels of her appearing simply for eye candy in the boobs and butt pose for absolutely no reason. This is not the only time she's been used to cater to the male gaze (I'd argue even in her original context that was part of her appeal) but in this comic she essentially has no personality beyond "i want sex" as her memory of all past events has been erased. She's essentially just a tool for her male counterparts in the comic to bounce off of, and eye candy to bring more male readers in. She does eventually get more storylines later on, but that doesn't excuse the bad writing she was put through. Her own solo series also cashes in on her sex appeal, by infantilizing at the same time as drawing her in skimpy outfits + more boobs and butt poses galore to go for the "born sexy yesterday" misogynistic trope.
NYA SMITHA (LEGO NINJAGO)
1.) it would take way too long to talk abt all of it but like… in the series colors are very important for characters and everyone has their own color but from episode one for the next 8 seasons her colors were specifically tied to her brother.. and then when she finally got her own ninja outfit she wasnt given her own color the colors were specifically red for her brother and blue for her boyfriend. shes constantly diminished to just the men who are closest to her. also every time she meets someone they Must become a love interest (including the man who was significantly older than her and trained her to use her powers. and also she was kidnapped and forced to marry a thousand year old djinn (when she was like SIXTEEN) because she looked a little bit like his dead wife. weird as hell.)
2.) she was given NOWHERE NEAR as much development as the guys (except for the bullshit love triangle!!!) despite being at the time leagues more competent than her brother in their debut, was damsel’d so he had to Save The Girl. again, the Bullshit Love Triangle. even after she got her own “thing” she was just boiled down to “oh look it’s the girlboss!! she’s just as good as the guys!!” while still getting sidelined. as time went on and flanderization increased she pretty much just became The Team Girl, and she was ALREADY The Team Girl!!! they left her behind with the fuckin grandpa!!!
3.) Left behind to take care of the kid simply because “she’s the girl” for the first season and a half, is fairly blatantly excluded from the team, is believed to be unable to protect herself or others by antagonists throughout the series, and repeatedly dehumanized and referred to exclusively as “girl.” When the ninja are public figures in season 6 she is shown dealing with misogyny from the press in several ways, and in her focus season (Seabound) she speaks out against how she’s been treated as an object rather than a person. All around a girlboss who deserves better

ALSO the rumors are true. i am in fact a jun oda hater.
i do NOT get why he has the fanbase that he has. sure, he has a special relationship with tachibana, and this is a source about organized crime so ofc youre gonna end up liking characters that are evil but i feel like a lot of people are overexaggerating those fact to completely gloss over what. he did. and i find that a bit gross! but maybe im misunderstanding/misinterpreting something idk
NO YOU'RE SO RIGHT I'm someone who very much doesn't mind what type of characters people are into especially bc if I did that'd be. Really hypocritical of me honestly just look at my f/o list, but I draw the line at sexual pr//dators and characters who enable that type of shit. I very rarely want fans of a certain character to dni but Oda fans make me SO fucking uncomfortable bc they ALWAYS gloss over what he did to Makoto, they ALWAYS baby him and they ALWAYS act like Tachibana would forgive him for what he did and it drives me INSANE /neg
Full offense but if Oda hadn't been shot Tachibana would have beat him to a bloody pulp after finding out what he did to his sister there is NO WAY people logically think differently without yaoi-ifying the two idc idc

Sad vibes when I just casually remember that the painful muscle contractions I have when I am having a particularly intense flashback are just body memories of multiple successive orgasms caused by the abuse I endured...like I don't even know how to articulate how awful it is just being aware that..that is what those are.
For years I thought they were just convulsions that I couldn't control and *happened* to coincide with the flashbacks. I thought I was like, seizing or something.
But..no. that's what they are. That abuse was so baked into my bones that my body can not and will not ever forget it.
ANYWAYS

Pantha
1.) Pantha was introduced in new titans #73 as one of the many experiments the wildebeest society was performing. She joined the titans basically right after being introduced.
With her personal subplot in the book having to do with figuring out who she is, both finding her past and building her future. sadly the former wasn't resolved before she left the titans and fell into obscurity (if that was the end I'd've been so happy)
until Geoff motherfucking Johns comes into the picture. In infinite crisis Superboy prime really wants to murder the current superboy. The only thing standing in the way of that are all the previous members of the titans. Pantha's the first one to jump in and within 2 panels of her showing up in the fucking event her head's been punched off. With more attention's given to how sad her murderer is about having to kill her. SBP goes on to kill 2 more titans including Pantha's son but that's not relevant to her mistreatment. and after 3 titans have been slayed it turns out that this was for nothing as Flash pops out of the speedforce and takes SBP away. later in the event Pantha's former team leader Dick Grayson calls her (along with the titans killed and maimed in the fight against SPB) ""titans no one will remember"".
And do you wanna know why Geoff Johns decided to kill of a titan of 3 years? To make the story of her boyfriend more interesting. First of all that's textbook fridging and I shouldn't need to tell you how bad that is and secondly the way he decided to make Leonid a more interesting character is to make him a depressed jackbooted militant Russian bootlicker.
After Pantha brutal fridging another writer decides to pick up her plot.
in Booster Gold #7 (yes. Booster Gold. you know that member of the JLI who's never interacted with any titans at any time before this. this'll become a theme in the short time she's here) we're introduced to an alternate timeline Pantha who's part of the freedom fighters.
when Booster asks what their deals are Pantha tries to explain why she wants to kill Maxwell Lord; a character she previously had zero connections to, before Green Arrow, Oliver fucking Queen interjects to tell her backstory for her. so not only was her backstory given to a Pantha who might have a completely different story to ours, given in a book she had zero connections to but fucking mansplained to us by a blonde bimbo who rightfully shouldn't fucking know who she is. Only to be fucking gunned down by a mind controlled Wild Dog not 11 pages later.
Her final appearance isn't much to note. her corpse is defiled and resurrected by a black lantern ring, she fights some of her old teammates (just not her boyfriend who was shown still being depressed at the start of blackest night: titans) only to be disintegrated by the original Dove coming down from the heavens to save the second one. I like Hawk and Dove but that's one final spit in the face for Pantha.
to explain why I've spent over 500 words trying to explain why Pantha's a victim of misogyny rather a character people'll know or like. Pantha's my favorite superhero of all time no ifs, ands or buts, hands down cards on the table favorite. Pantha's been dead for longer than I've been alive and every time she's brought back it isn't her and she's only there to die again.
in February 2021 a tie in to the event that went on at the time was released where superboy-prime was redeemed. SBP was redeemed before Pantha was allowed to see the panel again. And if that doesn't make your fucking blood boil then I've failed as a propagandist.

3.) Kory’s oversexualization and the dehumanization associated with it is especially egregious in the context of her backstory as a survivor of sexual trafficking AND her black/indigenous coding— both demographics who are at especially increased at risk for experiencing sexual abuse in real life. Especially when it’s done in service of the narrative of a white man (Jason Todd) and in parallel with the similar character assassination of a Navajo man (Roy Harper). It’s so fucking bad, free my girl.

genuine question: how exactly did astarion manage to lure so many people to cazador's palace specifically? i mean, yes, he seduced and slept with them, but how did he like... get them to that secondary location without it being suspicious. like, when he was hanging around taverns pretending to be an elven noble, maybe it could've worked; he could've pretended to be a relation or servant of cazador's who of course would have a room in his palace (one of the "pleasure chambers" he mentions after the confrontation with araj), but he also says he picked up victims from brothels and alleyways and like... wouldn't it kind of set off alarm bells or at least seem deeply weird if a prostitute was like, "let's find somewhere more private" and brought you to some grand nobleman's palace? or was he taking them to a tertiary location where cazador would pick them up?
thoughts?

The Black Hand
Tumblr media
It is believed that the Italian Mafia died out in those last days of the country known as the United States of America. It was commonly believed that organized crime no longer existed in Panem especially under the iron fist of President Coriolanus Snow.
Luca Changretta, leader of the Black Hand and the owner of the Capitol’s most luxurious gambling dens, was a clear sign that even if Sicily and America didn’t exist anymore, the Mafia lived, no, thrived underneath the colorful and glittering façade of the Capitol.
Until Snow found himself a better hitman, Luca would be given his pick of the victors as a reward for his loyalty.

Sunless Lives Part 8: I Shouldn’t Have Pried

~~~
Matthew picked at his breakfast - eggs and toast - and let his mind run wild with theories. Theories about Simon.
Here’s what he knew - or thought he knew - for sure:
Simon had been a field agent. He was young, so some kind of prodigy who got into the academy early. Multiple vampires had it out for him. At some point, for a decent amount of time, he’d been used for blood; direct bites, not blood draws. Victim protection wasn’t sufficient to keep him safe.
Those last two indicated preybonding.
Preybonding occurs when a vampire feeds from the same victim multiple times without killing them. The vampire then becomes possessive, and protective, of the human; they become reluctant to kill them, and have a hard time sharing their prey with other vampires. It’s the closest thing a vampire can get to feeling love, although it’s much closer to obsession. When a vampire is separated from the human they’ve preybonded with, they will go through great lengths to get them back.
This poses a high threat to those humans desperate enough to sell their blood to vampires. If they can’t afford the equipment to draw blood and must be fed from directly - as most in that situation must - they need to be careful not to let the same vampire feed from them too many times, and to not engage in any… bond-inducing behavior.
Like intimacy.
Like sex.
Which many desperate people, eager to make double the money, do anyway. Such situations made up the majority of the human rescues that the VIU accomplished: human sex and blood workers, kidnapped by a vampire who preybonded to them. As long as the vampire is captured, the human is safe; if not, you hope the vampire is grade C or lower and put the human in victim protection.
It felt almost wrong to think back on it, but Matthew recalled the previous morning when they found Simon. His ripped-open shirt. The blood smeared on his lips, matching Finch’s. Isles asking if he had all his clothes. And then there was Finch, and his odd behavior: first, he had surrendered a fight he still had a chance of winning - right after hearing Simon’s voice on the radio. Then they’d unknowingly put him in a cell he could easily break free of. He could have escaped the entire facility and been on his merry way but instead he went to Simon, as if compelled, and was recaptured for it. The only possible explanation was preybonding.
But there was another issue. Even after Finch was safely captured and long gone to wherever the VIU was sending vampires these days, Isles insisted Simon would still be in danger if he left the VIU building. Would still be in danger, even in victim protection. Which implied… At least one more preybonded vampire.
Matthew had always assumed the vampires after Simon were so dangerous because they were high-grade and held a grudge for some near-miss with Simon during his field agent days. Now, preybonding made more sense - and yet, still made very little sense at all. Multiple vampires bonding to the same victim was rare, and dangerous. It would likely lead to a fight between the vampires over the bondee. So how could there be multiple vampires preybonded to Simon? A vampire would never willingly give up a bondee, nor would they share - unless they both had easy access to the human that didn’t overlap, but that would require -
Matthew stood up from the couch so fast he almost toppled over. He stumbled across the carpet-less square on the floor and slammed his plate down on the kitchen counter, then dove for the laptop bags Gina had stacked on the treadmill behind the couch. Gina herself, who had been sitting next to him, watched him, utterly bewildered.
“What’s lit a fire under your ass?” she asked.
Matthew looked up at her, wild-eyed, his laptop clutched in his hands.
“Lara Everett,” he hissed.
“Who -” she frowned at first, before her face melted into recognition, “That’s that crazy case we had to read about!”
Matthew sat back down next to her, flinging the computer open. He typed in his credentials at lightning speed, and jiggled his knee as the interface loaded.
“Come on, come on…”
“You don’t think Simon…” Gina started, leaning in to look at his screen.
“I don’t know, I don’t know!” Matthew frantically pulled up the VIU database and typed in the name. He found the case. Lara Everett. John Doe.
And a list of vampires a mile long.
It was a case that they had both learned about shortly after it had happened, a little over two years ago. Gina was in her last year at the VIU academy, and Matthew was a year behind her. Everyone, regardless of their level, had gotten the rundown. A human, Lara Everett, had been selling the blood and body of one John Doe to at least two dozen different vampires - possibly more. Through a combination of high security, air-tight contracts, and personal wealth, she had been able to manage multiple preybonded vampires and their contact with John Doe. It was an impossibility; an extraordinary anomaly. She got away with it for years.
Until the John Doe killed her.
And then himself.
Matthew clicked onto the John Doe’s profile. It had a birthday that would make him 23 at the time and 25 now, and little else. No photos. No fingerprints. Not even a death date, or the specific cause of death. In fact, nothing in his profile or the case write-up indicated he was dead at all - that’s just what everyone said back then, and Matthew had believed it.
“There’s no way that’s him,” Gina breathed.
“What if it is,” whispered Matthew, the horror of the idea closing up his throat, “At the very least, the John Doe’s not dead…”
Gina lunged forward and slammed the laptop shut. Matthew had to jerk his hands away to avoid getting his fingers squashed.
“What the hell?” he exclaimed.
“If that is Simon, it’s not our business to go digging it up!” she hissed, “If he wanted us to know, he’d tell us.”
Matthew opened his mouth to argue, but found that Gina’s words rang true. He flopped back on the couch.
“Then what do we do?” he whined.
“Nothing! We just have to wait.”
“Morning,” came a voice, “Wait for what?”
Matthew and Gina both nearly jumped out of their skins. They looked up to see Simon standing in the hallway, steadying himself against the wall with one hand and holding his empty water glass in the other.
“We were just,” Matthew stammered, “Uhh, waiting for… Amber! Waiting for her to get here. Later today.”
Simon lifted a skeptical eyebrow, walking carefully over to the kitchen and refilling his glass at the sink.
“You’re a terrible liar,” he turned around to lean against the sink, watching them as he took a sip, “What’s going on?”
Matthew and Gina looked at each other. Gina shook her head, but Matthew couldn't resist.
“Simon, who’s Lara?” he asked.
Emotions flickered over Simon’s face. For a moment he looked scared, then his eyebrows knit and he cast his gaze away from them.
“I just woke up, can we not do this?” he said faintly.
“I'm really sorry, Simon,” said Matthew, setting the laptop aside and standing up, “Gina said you called her Lara, and I just remembered the Lara Everett case and I got scared.”
“You got scared?” Simon questioned, his voice shaky. Matthew suddenly realized he had Simon cornered in the kitchen, and he backed up.
“Simon, I’m so sorry,” he said, “Can we…”
But Simon darted past him, hand trailing along the wall as he escaped to his bedroom. Matthew’s shoulders sagged.
“Fuuuuck,” Gina breathed, putting her head down in her hands.
Matthew stared at Simon’s door for a long time.
Just how badly had he screwed up?
Got told I deserved to be human trafficked because I got victim blamed by a mutual and didn’t like it. It’s hard to believe some of these people are actually human.
I was sexually abused for 12 years of my life and you say i deserve it for believing in a god while being separate from the church and condemning the church. Not to mention saying I want to drown babies when I don’t even think kids should be involved in religion because they are kids and it’s very obvious that environment isn’t safe for them.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they found and shared the “content” of me out there. The world is full of monster and I don’t want to be in it.
BUMBLE (WARRIOR CATS) (CW: Domestic Abuse)
1.) Back with another Warriors submission, I bet you’ll be getting a lot from other people too LMAO. Bumble is a kittypet (housecat) who befriends the male protagonist Gray Wing’s girlfriend, Turtle Tail, and lets her stay in her house. This gets Gray Wing all pissy because he’s controlling of Turtle Tail and shares most of the wild/clan cat’s proclivity for looking down upon kittypets. Turtle Tail gets pregnant by another kittypet, Tom, who tries to control her by hiding the fact that humans take away kittens after they’re born. Eventually Bumble comes clean about it so Turtle Tail returns to the forest. Some time later, Bumble is found in the forest seeking refuge because Tom has been physically abusing her, scratching her where the humans can’t see. So, she’s CANONICALLY ACKNOWLEDGED as a domestic abuse victim (unlike Squirrelflight who meets all the textbook signs but the narrative and authors deny it). How do you think our good guy protagonists, i.e. Gray Wing “The Wise” and Turtle Tail, respond to an abuse victim seeking refuge? They tell Bumble to go home, thinking to themselves that she’s fat and soft and therefore would be useless in their group. Bumble stands up for herself and asks to speak with the leaders of the group. One of them asks if Bumble could just get along with Tom better (bro???) and when Bumble says it’s not within her control, the leader suggests being nicer to the humans instead. Another rival leader butts in and verbally abuses Bumble again by ripping into how fat and lazy and useless she would be. Despite Turtle Tail having been friends with Bumble and Bumble had helped her through her own hard times, to Gray Wing’s approval Turtle Tail chooses not to intervene as Bumble is forcibly escorted back to her abuser. But that’s not all. Later Bumble is found in the forest maimed and dying, and it seems likely that Gray Wing’s brother Clear Sky, a male with a long history of violence, is the culprit. Rather than mourn the dying innocent cat, Gray Wing’s primary concern is how other cats might be mean to Clear Sky if they think he’s a murderer, and reassures himself that refusing to help Bumble in her time of need was still the right decision.
2.) I have no idea how she managed to be written so horrifically from an abuse victim and woman (/she-cat I guess) standpoint but here we are. Okay so my memory is a bit fuzzy but basically Bumble was a character in Dawn of the Clans and a close friend to Turtle Tail, a major character, as well as a character who lived close to Tom, an abusive dickhead of a cat. Bumble was largely depicted as just a really sweet cat. Turtle Tail was very briefly the mate of Turtle Tail, but once she got pregnant, he became super violent towards both her and our gal Bumble. Tom actively hid the fact that, once her kits were old enough, Turtle Tail’s kits would probably be taken from her, and made Bumble keep quiet about this too, but Bumble eventually told Turtle Tail the truth, Turtle Tail left and Tom became extremely violent towards Bumble because of this, and was extremely abusive towards her. Eventually, Bumble ran away from him to where Turtle Tail and co were and begged to stay, since the wilderness as a whole was genuinely more safe than being around Tom was. Naturally, this meant kitty xenophobia from cats who had only arrived in that area recently, because everybody was insistent than, since she was a kittypet/house cat, things wouldn’t work out, and even her friend Turtle Tail denied her on this, insisted she was too soft to live in the wild and only sent her towards a cat Bumble wanted to convince because she was absolutely certain she’d be denied. Also our good old protagonist Gray Wing got to spend this scene being all upset about this soft cat wanting to join them to escape an abuser and was all bitter about the fact that Turtle Tail lived with her for a short period of time, and he also got to have a sweet romantic moment with Turtle Tail after denying an abuse victim an escape from her abuser. Also as much as I like Tall Shadow usually she sucked ass in the following scene because she was essentially telling Bumble to go find a way to make peace with Tom as if she was not the one being abused (Bumble pointed out that Tom was the one who would need to make peace for it to happen, not her) and that she should just make life better by going back to being a housecat and being spoiled despite the fact that she was actively at risk with her owners because of Tom. Then she leaves after being threatened by several cats there and is called soft on the way out. The next time she appears she is literally dying, and her death is just a plot device to create a stupid little mystery which is solved in a very stupid way. Also her abuser does continue to be a shithead and for some reason is fully permitted to kidnap his own children but he also gets a heroic death and the only reason I will not rant more about him is because this is too long already. Long story short Bumble deserves the world and everybody who decided not to let her escape her abuser just because they thought she was soft sucks
3.) Is nice to the group of starving, feral wild cats that left the mountains so their friends and family could have more food to eat and befriends one of them to the point of opening her home to her after she leaves the group because the guy she likes is too dumb to notice she likes him and keeps falling for his brother’s love interests.
Unfortunately, because Bumble is a house cat who lives in a house with people and not a Wild and Free cat, this is a grave and horrible crime (luring a wild cat into the safety and comforts of domesticity) and is villainized for the rest of the arc, including for things wildly out of her control
I.E.
Her owners taking in an aggressive male cat that bullies and abuses the two female cats already living there
When Bumble’s friend leaves and goes back to the wild cats, Bumble leaves her home (as the abuse as has gotten worse) to see if she could either get help or have her friend return so the abuse isn’t as bad again)
Bumble eventually dies in the wild because the feral cats all hate her for ‘stealing’ their friend and tricking her into becoming a kittypet for awhile and refuse to help Bumble adjust to wild life or even teaching her how to hunt.
They are littl e to no hard feelings at her death beyond ‘good riddance’ but the aggressive tomcat that chased her out of her home is later regarded with good feelings and regret at such a ‘good, heroic cat’ passing when he dies despite him literally never doing a good or kind thing in his life and actually causing trouble for the wild cats right before dying
