LJS Ship Lore: Jigen x Queen Malta

The moment you create a ship so unknown in the fandom it doesnt even have FANART

Yep, say hello to one of the ships in my Lavender Jacket Series AND my Fantasy AU.

As Ive stated before Jigens Gravestone is canon in my Ljs series because it's premise is suppose to stick as the final trust exercise between Jigen and Lupin after their reunion in the Pyramid to cement their partnership to the highest form it could be. The final nail in the coffin so to speak, solidifying their old and new partnership so to speak. Putting each others life and trust in one another where uncertainty grows.

However, in the background of Gravestone, a small relationship had been growing

You see, the Malta x Jigen ship is canon for both RoA. . . .

(Ill explain their relationship in RoA on my other blog @roads-of-arkael)

. . . .and LJS, however sadly in LJS she still dies following Gravestones plot line.

However, in the time frame of Gravestone, loosing Malta actually did bother Jigen greatly

After the shit that Cicciolina had pulled on him, Malta was essentially breath of fresh air compared to the people he knew from the past.

Dedicated, headstrong, maybe not as fearless as he may have been, but dutiful, loving, caring, all things Jigen forgot people could be.

As a result, the two had surprisingly become friends in a way quite quickly, both seeing eye-to-eye about how they each believed the world worked and coming to an understand each other's points of view on it. And it wasn't any surprise why the two ended up hooking up, far out of the spotlight, their relationship kept private from prying camera's and peeping paparazzi.

But no amount of tip toeing and hush-hush could have ever prepared Jigen for the night of her death

Loosing Malta absolutely fucking sucked for Jigen, because she was one of the few, besides Lupin to show him people could be selfless, caring without motive other then the good for the people they cared about.

Jigen loved few people, Malta loved a whole country and thought unity was the best thing and she got killed for it cause other's didn't support the view.

He never did move on from her death. It still stung even years later. Which is why for one of the head canons i have for LJS, one of the things Jigen has left to remember her by is her music. What she was famous for. What she hoped would bring the two countries together.

He ended up buying the CD's she produced shortly after her death, and once in a while you might actually catch him listening to them when he's relaxing. Both because he likes the music, but also because its the remembrance

He's thrilled to find out his sister likes her music too because she has records and albums he hasn't been lucky enough to find,

They're constantly playing in the apartment when Jigen's alone. . . .

He doesn't talk about her much. Preferring instead to keep the memories he has of her private and close-kept. Just little memories he can keep that he doesn't have to share.

Just like how their relationship was kept secret. . .all to themselves. . .nobody else. . .

Rotten by Missouri Surf Club gives me extremely specific Jigen vibes. Namely TWCFM!Jigen, freshly traumatized by the Cicciolina Incident, completely apathetic toward Lupin's affection, waiting for him to realize he's already dead inside and there's nothing left of him to love.

Koike's art style is gorgeous but man! is it hard to imitate. His shading is a NIGHTMARE.

LIII RoA Reunion (Mirrors PT3)

It wasn't his fault what happened on Earth, he did try to make amends for it, and in many ways he did, but it never did stop bothering him. . .

So when the pull refuses to go away, and he finds himself more drawn to her, Jigen begins to figure. . .that if he could save this one. . .maybe the guilt would go away

Thinking about Jigen and Malta’s “reunion” in RoA

try not to think about Jigen losing his breath upon seeing Malta again

the whole fact he's staring at this woman like he's seen a ghost

Her staring at him too

Because there's that that little sense of familiarity none of them can get rid of

It draws them close no matter how much Jigen wants to pull away because he can't believe that of everything on this godforsaken planet that Malta would be the one thing here to truly shock and surprise him

But he can't help the pulling

it's like how it was back on earth

But Malta's position is higher now, she's more than a singer, she's in a position where he could get into big trouble or even killed if he's caught by her side

but oh. . .sweet Malta. . .even as a mirror she's resourceful. She has Jigen placed as her guard

and Jigens morbid sense of Deja vu kicks him in the gut

Malta wants to know more about this strange man who feels so familiar

Jigen just wants to get his head on straight

She wants to learn more, Jigen want's to keep as much distance between them as possible cause no he can't do this again

He avoids her questions. He pretends he doesn't know who she is. And for a moment in time maybe he finally convinces her.

Until one day he slips up

because he heard her singing

Poor Jigen's so drawn to it like a moth to a flame

Jigen had slipped up and ended up using the old nickname he had for her earth counterpart

Jigen called Malta Songbird by mistake because he overheard her singing and it was basically like muscle memory reflex.

Don't think about how breathless he sounds when he says it, like it's new on the tongue. Because it might as well have been, he hasn't mentioned that pet name in a long time.

But whoops here he goes letting it slip and now she knows he knows her. . .well knew her. . .what she was on earth. Because in saying the name, it had triggered her cross-memory and mirroring, she remembers someone calling her that almost like in a dream, and now she knows who it was saying that

Well basically cat's out of the bag now, she knows he knows who she is, who she was.

And because the city around them is basically falling apart, it's rare for them to get a moment of solitude and peace especially when Jigens out trying to help clean up some messes, but she doesn't care right now because that pull is strong now, stronger than it's ever been and she must do something about it before it drives her mad.

So basically the pair find some secluded room to hold up in and automatically Malta notices the look in Jigens eyes

he's hurting

Something is really bothering him and she's noticed the look before in glances he's given her, but now the look is far more prominent, like every emotion is building up in this mans skinny body and she cant help but feel like she knows why

So as softly as she can

she asks him

"You knew me. . .didn't you"

The harsh breath Jigen lets out when she asks him.

Tears almost look like they're forming in his eye

He answers her question accidentally

"You know about the mirrors. . ."

It's not the answer she want's, but she'll take it.

"Yes. . "

She explains to him things, how her country knows a lot more than the rest of the world when it comes to realmwalkers and mirrors because while superstitious as they may be about things, their part of the country embraced the unknown while others shied away. While many places like Arkael found realmwalkers and the concept of mirrors to be bad omens, the people of East and West Doroan embraced them and that's why their so much more advanced than other places because they actively accepted Realmwalkers into their land and used what they knew to advance their own country.

She tells him she knows about the mirrors, has always since she was a little girl. How it always felt like she was a part of two separate planes of existence and how every time she slept she would dream of her other life and rejoice over it despite finding that their hardships were both the same.

She also tells him. . .that sometime ago, the dreams had stopped. How one night, she had gone off to sleep and had awoken to the most terrible pain she had ever experienced in her life.

Like fire had taken over the inside of her head.

and how after that, she never dreamt of the other her again.

She turns back to Jigen, having been lost in thought. And says softly to him again

"I remembered your voice when you first spoke to me. . .Like when I was dreaming. . .I remember that feeling. . .You knew me didn't you. . .the other me? Something happened to her didn't it. . .that's why I haven't seen her anymore"

"You knew m-"

Yes. . .

She's startled for just a moment, she never expected the man in front of her. The one who has shown no fear since ending up in this crazy country to sound so broken. The "yes" he emits sounds so breathy, so loose, like he's finally done hiding what he knows and a big weight has been taken off his shoulders, but at the same time the weight had done its damage. He's still breaking, she can see it in his face

"You know what happened. . ."

"Yes. . . I do"

But no matter how hard he tries he can't seem to tell her what became of the old Malta, the other one. The words feel like acid, like their burning him from the inside out. . .

so it only comes out the only way it can before the damn finally breaks

"I'm sorry. . .Im so sorry. . .It was all my fault"

And that's when Jigen finally starts crying.

Just uncontrollable tears, and heaving in his chest he can't stop.

He just keeps on repeating i'm sorry to her. But maybe it's not her he's actually apologizing too.

But it doesn't matter.

It breaks her heart

This Malta is smaller than he is, just like her mirror was back on earth. But her hands feel the same. They must, especially for the amount of warmth that suddenly envelopes the side of his face when she brings a hand up to cup at his cheek and jaw bone. Her well kept nails dragging softly against his sideburn.

The crying tapers off as he stares at her. Her look is soft. . .so familiar, he's missed that look so much.

He doesn't know what he's doing anymore, but all of a sudden, he takes the hand against his face and puts it to his lips. One small kiss, that's all he does, as he presses the hand to his face once more relishing the feel of her skin against his

Suddenly he doesn't care if this isn't the same Malta he knew on earth. In many ways she was the same. For no woman had ever been so kind to him, so trusting of him as she was, as far as he was concerned. .

And after the tears are wiped clean, and the emotions run high but the adrenaline runs even higher, and he finds himself taking her by the hand to find a small spot where they can be together, if just for one night.

He realizes that deep down, she knew he was hers as well.

Especially after, when everything had died down, and the pair were sweaty and satisfied and their breathing evened out in sync, she had crawled up on his chest and whispered in his ear just before the dredges of sleep pulled him down,

that she was more in love with the man from her dreams, then she had ever been and ever would be, with the man she had called her husband.

Last year, the Lupin III brainworms hit me full force (thanks to @jeananasartblog 's DELICATE PUSH...), and I made a small zine after watching "Jigen's Gravestone" (20-30% of the movie is absolutely TERRIBLE - for those who've seen it, guess which part I'm talking about... - but the rest is pretty neat).
