Throwback Thursday.
You are minding your own business, walking around Paris and with just a look thru a gallery window you are transported back to Singapore in a flash.
Bruno Catalano is a French sculptor, most renown for creating sculptures of figures with substantial sections missing: Les Voyageurs (Travelers)
A few of his “hollow” sculptures are in Singapore. In my opinion his work is at its best when displayed in nature where the surrounding elements shine through.
The colorful piece by David Gerstein, on the back left wall, also reminded me of a gallery I walked by often in Singapore.
The problem with having lived in (or even visited) so many places is that any little things you see can trigger a walk down memories lane but I’m not complaining.

Researchers reveal a map to study novel form of cell-to-cell communication
“Ribonucleic acid or RNA is one type of genetic material that is present inside all living cells. It is mostly known to act as a messenger carrying instructions encoded in the DNA for the synthesis of proteins,” said co-corresponding author, Dr. Aleksandar Milosavljevic, professor and Henry and Emma Meyer Chair in Molecular Genetics at Baylor. He also is the director of the Graduate Program in Quantitative & Computational Biosciences and a member of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor. The Milosavljevic Lab is the host of the exRNA Atlas, the data management and resource repository of the Extracellular RNA Communication Consortium, an NIH Common Fund project exploring the biology of exRNA. In recent years research has shown that RNA not only exists inside cells, but also is exported from cells as extracellular RNA and plays a role in cell-to-cell communication. “ExRNAs exist in bodily fluids outside of cells where they can associate with a variety of carriers including RNA binding proteins (RBPs), but the cargo and distribution of RBPs across biofluids is largely unknown,” said coauthor Robert Fullem, a graduate student in the Milosavljevic lab. “Our goal in this study was to fill that gap. This major gap in knowledge limited our understanding of the role of RBPs as carriers of exRNA in human bodily fluids. Our findings open a new road toward understanding exRNA biology and provide new opportunities for the development of exRBP/exRNA liquid biopsy biomarkers.” The researchers applied computational analyses to identify exRBPs in plasma, serum, saliva, urine and cerebrospinal fluid. The computational predictions were validated experimentally at about 80% in both plasma and cell cultures in the lab, suggesting high specificity for the computational method. “With this information, we developed a map of candidate exRBPs and their exRNA cargo in bodily fluids expanding the landscape of potential biomarkers that can now be studied in liquid biopsies and used to track normal and disease processes,” Milosavljevic said. “We present this map as a resource available at no cost to the scientific community.” Other contributors to this work include co-first authors Emily L. LaPlante and Alessandra Stürchler, David Chen, Anne C. Starner, Emmanuel Esquivel, Eric Alsop, Andrew R. Jackson, Ionita Ghiran, Getulio Pereira, Joel Rozowsky, Justin Chang, Mark Gerstein, Roger P. Alexander, Matthew E. Roth, Jeffrey Franklin, Robert Coffey, Robert L. Raffai, Isabelle M. Mansuy, Stavros Stavrakis, Andrew deMello, Louise C. Laurent, Yi-Ting Wang, Chia-Feng Tsai, Tao Liu, Jennifer Jones, Kendall Van Keuren-Jensen and Eric Van Nostrand.  This publication was supported in part by the NIH Common Fund (1UG3TR002881-01, 1U54DA036134-01,1U54DA049098-01, 1U54DA049098-01S1, 1UH3TR002881, OT2OD030547-01S1 and 5UG3TR002881-02). David Gerstein, an Israeli artist, created the metal sculptures which are hanging on light poles in front of the Uptown shopping center. Originally, these figures were at the town center in Windsor Heights. But some of them have found their to Uptown. Fiddling Around
2 in 83 of Mickey Mouse (1930s) animated short film history Director: Walt Disney Country: USA Released: Mar. 14th, 1930
In this short––also known as Just Mickey––Mickey performs Robert Schumann’s Traumerei, the finale to the William Tell Overture, and a Hungarian dance in a solo violin performance.
This was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon not animated by Ub Iwerks.
An issue concerning this cartoon is whether the title is Fiddling Around or Just Mickey. The former was copyrighted as such and was seen on the original theatrical poster. In 2009, animation historian David Gerstein uncovered an original 1930 release print that shows the title as Fiddling Around, implying that Just Mickey was a working title.”

Another strong volume. Yet another really strong Barks volume. I had thought we would have gotten to Barks' 1958-59 creative burn-out (where the stories got a bit boring for a while) by now, but no. This book has some of the funniest ten-pager stories that I remember vividly from my childhood. Go to Amazon
Another Spectacular Collection I always enjoy the Carl Barks comics but this latest volume, in particular, struck my fancy. The Donald Duck stories generally come in three varieties; the 20+ page adventures, the 10 page stories and the single page gags. I consider the 10 pagers to be the sweet spot and that’s almost all that is presented here. ‘Secret of Hondorica’ is the only long adventure and it’s one of my favorites adventures but the 10 pagers are what I love the most. They generally take place in Duckburg and feature Donald and the boys in some kind of short misadventure. Go to Amazon
