Hip Hop turned 50 today, I want to thank every MC/DJ that’s blessed my ears and helped change the world. They said it was a fad and it would never last, now it runs the universe! To you millennials and gen Z‘s PLEASE do your homework and study the greats and their influence’s. Please don’t fall into the dumb hole of ageism, if The Rolling Stones can still tour than RUN DMC and our Godfathers should be able to do the same thing! Support the pioneers, and actually GO BUY THE MUSIC (especially if you know they own their masters and publishing) These record labels aren’t paying artists for their work with streaming. So support the art and PLEASE make new art and PLEASE try to incorporate the foundations that started the art. I won’t be around when it turns 100, so to generation Z…. Please pay homage and honor the greats AND the lesser known artists that ALL helped shape the culture. Finally… STOP THE VIOLENCE!, SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE AND GIVE BACK AND LETS BUILD! DJ Kool Herc & The Birth of Hip Hop.

DJ Kool Herc & The Birth of Hip Hop ist eine Online-Auktion in New York des legendären DJs und weltweit anerkannten Vaters des Hip Hop. Die Auktion, der eine historische Ausstellung in den Galerien von Christie's im Rockefeller Center vorausging, umfasst mehr als 150 Lose von Original-Vinylplatten, die Herc in den 1970er Jahren auflegte, ikonische Plattenspieler, Lautsprecher und Stereoanlagen, Kleidung, einen der umfangreichsten Bestände an Hip-Hop-Flyern und -Postern in Privatbesitz sowie Dutzende von Polaroids von Partys, Menschen und Ereignissen bei der Entstehung einer kulturellen Bewegung, die die Welt verändert hat.

Zu den Highlights der Auktion gehören die Lautsprechertürme, die sogenannten Herculoids, die mit ihrer Höhe das Herzstück des Soundsystems der legendären Party vom 11. August 1973 im Aufenthaltsraum in der 1520 Sedgwick Ave. in der Bronx bildeten. Auf dieser Party zeigte Herc eine Plattentellertechnik, die als Merry-Go-Round-Technik bezeichnet wird, bei der er zwei Platten desselben Albums auflegte, wobei er nahtlos von Breakbeat zu Breakbeat überging und den Moment verlängerte, in dem alle auf die Tanzfläche kamen. Manch einer wird jetzt denken, dass all diese schönen und für die Kultur wichtigen Stücke z.B. im neuen HipHop Museum von New York zu sehen sein un ndicht verkauft werden sollten, aber wer in den letzten Jahren mitbekommen hat, wie krank Kool Herc war und wie dringend er jeden Dollar benötigte, um seine Rechnungen zu bezahlen, der wird verstehen, dass ich ihm natürlich wünsche, dass dieser Verkauf für ihn gut abläuft.    

  Wer weiß, vielleicht kauft ja einer der heute erfolgreichen Rapper, deren Karriere nur möglich war, weil Herc und seine Schwester Cindy irgendwann in der Bronx auf der Straße Party gemacht haben, Teile der Angebote und stiften sie dem New Yorker HipHop Museum.
