Dodie And Miss Heed aka Cecelia Amanda Kelly Are The Same Type Of Person
Tumblr media
Although these two come from two totally different genres of shows, I really think Miss Heed and Dodie are the same type of person: insecure girls who are willing to throw their friends overboard to be popular. In the case of Miss Heed, she got farther than Dodie by becoming a superhero and very popular (even without the formula at first). Dodie for a while was having popularity as new announcer at her middle school until she doxed people who had lice and Ginger put a stop to it. I have an inkling that Miss Heed was like Dodie in high school and even before she abandoned Flug she did small stuff that was always striving to be popular and noticed. In fact, both series had an episode about learning to love yourself or you will always rely on others opinions to validate you. Although that episode focused more on her mother, it really does come into play that both are bad friend’s whose shitty treatment of the main characters comes from their ambition to be popular.

I can’t believe it but 3x04 has me empathizing with Dodie a little. I get what it’s like when you have a friend who is surgically attached to their boyfriend and the guy is nice, but he’s also everywhere. It’s hard because you want them to be happy, but also it’s like, Jesus do I have to practically be dating him because you are too?

You know "Wicked Game" suddenly makes a hell of a lot more sense if we take out Darren and put in Courtney. Ginger is dating Darren and suddenly Miranda and Mipsy want to break them up to...take her down a peg?
youtube
Yes, Miranda runs on spite and snake venom, but why should she give two shits if Ginger dates Darren? Miranda's whole thing is keeping Ginger away from Courtney. Hmmm, it's almost like this was originally written about someone else.
As for the other Three Stooges, Mipsy, plus Dodie and Macie, I can see it playing out a few different ways. Maybe the motive for Wingo and Dingo remains "What if we lose Ginger as a friend?" Weak. Or it could go in a darker direction.
"If Ginger dates a girl she could get kicked out of school/never go to college/wind up living under a bridge fighting a rat for the last scrap of cheese on a burger wrapper/NEVER BE POPULAR!!! We have to break them up for Ginger's own good!"
As for Mipsy, she's a bitch who loves messy drama. Maybe homophobic, maybe not. Probably. She is a nasty piece of work after all.
In the end, Darren blows the whistle, not Courtney.
There's a reason "Wicked Game" didn't work and why it was so despised. Because the players and their motivations made no sense. But one little tweak and you've got one of the darkest episodes Nick didn't have the balls to put out.

Do you have any book recs / poems about unrequited love, failed crushes? I am in the dumps right now and I would love to read someone more articulate than me
Oh, I do. Also, for whatever it's worth, I have been there... and arguably will be there, in some way, for the rest of my life. (As Olivia Colman, as Queen Anne, unforgettably says in The Favourite: Some wounds do not close... One just walks around with them and sometimes one can feel them filling with blood.)
"One Art," Elizabeth Bishop, is a poem that can be recited between clenched teeth.
I Capture the Castle, Dodie Smith, is (among other things) an exquisite exploration of unrequited love and failed crushes. In my mid-30s, I find it difficult to reread because of its youthful optimism. But it is lovely.
Embers, Sándor Márai, is about love and loyalty and sorrow and how all of these can outlast and overcome betrayal. It's an absolutely gorgeous novel set at the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, not incidentally. Márai is really good on this sort of thing; I also recommend his Portraits of a Marriage and Casanova in Bolzano for exploring how disastrously, how redemptively, how irrevocably we love.
The End of the Affair, Graham Greene, may or may not be what you're looking for. But it is what its brilliant, bitter, disabled narrator calls "a chronicle of hate" and it is also a chronicle of what happens when the person you love more than anyone else in the world turns out to be, in some fundamental way, unknown to you, and chooses to distance themselves from you because of this unknown, unbearable strangeness. It is also, I think, a beautiful love story.
Kenilworth, Sir Walter Scott, is a strange and sprawling historical novel, but it is also a novel about how to live well when unhappy in love. And everyone is unhappy in love: foolish Amy, who married ambitiously and has found herself isolated; Elizabeth, who is queen and knows exactly what this means for her private passions; Tressilian, pale and thin and miserable with impossible love and determined to live a good life anyway (obviously, I love him.)
Cyrano de Bergerac, Edmond Rostand, is arguably the exploration of this, and personally, I read it as a remarkable assertion of Cyrano's indomitable sense of self, and sense of integrity, surviving the lifelong grief of love (Oui, vous m'arrachez tout, le laurier et la rose! / Arrachez! Il y a malgré vous quelque chose / Que j'emporte...).
I hope that some of these help things feel easier to you.
