Addams Family Steddie Part 4
Part One | Part Two | Part Three
As always, if you see a typo, no you didn't. Enjoy reading!
After nearly a year of knowing Eddie, Steve would say he's got his fiance-to-be's personality down pat. He has a general idea of how Eddie will react to things, what he prefers for a midnight snack (chocolate-covered wasp wings), and the music he likes listening to when they're making out (KISS, but he'll put on Fall Out Boy if Steve bats his eyes just right).
He also knows Eddie is not the most patient man in the world; he's rather impulsive, in fact. He'll get an idea and run with it, not pausing to consider the potential consequences, especially if he thinks it'll make Steve smile. He's even jumped head-first into a ball pit after Dustin and Steve, despite how off-putting he found the colors, just to make Steve laugh.
Clearly, Steve knows Eddie. Very well.
So, he's having a hard time understanding why Eddie hasn't proposed yet. It's been three months since they became engaged-to-be-engaged. Not to the minute, but to the day. Steve had expected Eddie to climb through his window at exactly 12:01 AM to propose. He had even laid a carefully planned trap (it involved a net, exactly three knives, Hulyet, and impressive knotwork) if only because he knew Eddie would find that romantic and would love to propose while hanging from the ceiling.
Steve had even been thinking up snappy one-liners for when he turned on the lights to see Eddie trapped. He could say, "Finders keepers, which means you're mine," or maybe, "I guess I should find a good taxidermist now. Do you think El knows of one?" or even, "I can't wait to tell Dustin I caught breakfast." The first one is probably a bust when he really thinks about it, but those other two could work.
So, Steve isn't expecting to sleep through the night, only waking up because the sun is shining through his window. He even lays in bed for an hour, scrolling through social media on his phone in case Eddie is running behind. He wasn't, and the only thing saving Eddie from getting utterly maimed and tortured (not the fun kind) is that he sent a good morning text.
That good morning text doesn't answer any of Steve's questions, though, and he spends another hour carefully cleaning the trap he'd carefully placed. At least Hulyet is reassuringly predictable, resting on his shoulder and nuzzling his neck as he cleans.
An entire day passes without Steve even seeing Eddie's shadow. He literally watches the sun set below the horizon after dinner, his disappointment morphing into annoyance and frustration that he takes out on the dishes he's scrubbing. He's annoyed with Eddie for not even swinging by when he usually can't stay away, but he's also frustrated with himself for his annoyance and for the tiny voice in the back of his brain wondering if maybe Eddie doesn't want to be together as badly as Steve.
"Could you please stop brooding? I'm trying to balance chemical equations," Dustin says, throwing a pen at Steve's head from the kitchen island. "Besides, you're fucking murdering our plates."
Steve sighs, glancing at the pen now resting pitifully on the floor. He rinses off the plate he's holding, places it in the drying rack, and picks up the pen. "Can I ask you something?"
"You just did, but what's up?"
"Is there a non-romantic way to murder Eddie?"
Dustin is silent for a few moments before letting out a put-upon sigh. "Probably not," he says, resting his chin in his palm. "Why?"
"He was supposed to propose today."
"...It's like you lose all your brain cells when Eddie is involved. How do you know he was supposed to propose?"
"I told him to wait three months exactly three months ago," Steve explains, leaning against the counter and crossing his arms over his stomach.
"And you want him to propose? Like, you want to marry him? It's barely been a year of knowing the guy."
Steve doesn't even have to think before saying, "Yes." Because he does want to marry Eddie. He wants to feel even closer than they already are; he wants to have a wedding ring that he can show off; he wants to be able to introduce Eddie as his husband.
Well, now that he thinks about it, why does he care so much about Eddie being the one to propose? He could do it himself! Steve could go buy a fucking obsidian ring with ruby accents, passive-aggressively get down on one knee, and shove the ring onto Eddie's left ring finger. It doesn't exactly sound romantic, but Eddie lost that privilege when he didn't sneak into Steve's room at 12:01 this morning.
"If you're that desperate to get married, just kidnap him for a shotgun wedding or something and have a ceremony later. Why wait on him? It's the era of feminism, dude."
As mean as Dustin's tone is, Steve has to admit he has a point. Steve doesn't have to wait on Eddie, and he's not going to. Fuck it. He'll go propose himself. "You good on your own for a while?" Steve asks, returning his attention to Dustin.
"Yeah, I'm good. Go get hitched. Take a picture with your Elvis impersonator for me," Dustin says, waving his hand dismissively at Steve as he focuses back on his worksheet.
Steve rolls his eyes, ruffling Dustin's hair as he passes him. "I'll probably be back in a few hours," he says, waiting for Dustin to smack his hand away before heading to the front door and pulling on his sneakers.
----
Eddie's bedroom is on the second floor, and his window is on the side of the house. The first time he climbed to Eddie's window, he'd nearly impaled himself on the spikes in the flowerbeds along the house. Thankfully, Steve has discovered the ability to use both the tree by the house and the drainage pipe for the gutters to climb up.
Now, Steve can reach Eddie's window in his sleep. He pulls himself up the tree, leaning dangerously far from the trunk and using the drainage pipe to steady himself with one hand. He tugs Eddie's window with the other, getting it mostly open before launching himself through. When his waist catches on the sill, he wiggles until he falls to the floor just under the window.
Steve huffs, pushing his hair out of his eyes as he sits up and looks at the bed. Eddie is watching him with an amused smile, leaning back against the pillows with a guitar in his lap. "You're especially beautiful when you're wiggling through my window, sweetheart," he says.
"Shut up," Steve mutters, pulling himself up off the floor. He climbs onto the bed, taking Eddie's guitar and carefully setting it aside before climbing into his lap. "I'm upset."
Eddie blinks, his smile immediately replaced by a concerned frown as he places his hands on Steve's hips. "What's wrong, Stevie? Who upset you? Are we having a murder date night?" he asks.
Steve doesn't answer for a few seconds before sighing and hugging Eddie, unable to hold onto any annoyance or frustration when he's offering murder dates so sincerely. "You didn't propose today," he whispers, tugging on a lock of Eddie's hair with a frown. "It's been three months."
"Stevie, baby, sweetheart, beloved, my darkest night after a blistering day," Eddie says, his voice soft and dripping with love, and Steve snorts at the cheesy names.
"Get to the point already."
"Tomorrow is three months, sweetheart."
Steve blinks, pulling back slightly to look down at Eddie. He has a soft smile, one that's a little goofy and utterly comfortable with how much love it reveals. "Are you sure?" Steve asks.
Eddie grins and grabs his phone from the nightstand, pulls up his calendar, and shows Steve a notification that's set for exactly 12:01 AM and reads "PROPOSE TO STEVE" with several ring emojis.
"Are you sure it's right?" Steve asks, looking from the notification to Eddie.
"Stevie, do you really think I'd wait a single second longer than necessary to propose? I spent three hours making sure this was exactly three months."
Yeah, all of that is exactly what Steve had been expecting that morning. He feels relieved, actually, because Eddie is just as impatient as he is and just as unwilling to wait a second more than necessary. "Well," Steve says, drawing the word out as he takes Eddie's phone and places it on the nightstand, "I am already here."
It takes two seconds for Eddie to catch up, his eyes lighting up when he does. "Seriously?" he asks.
"I might change my mind if you take too long," Steve says, his sentence barely finished when Eddie pulls a ring box out of absolutely nowhere.
And Steve would wonder how he did that, but he's too focused on Eddie opening the box to reveal a pitch-black ring with an obsidian main stone and ruby accent stones. It looks exactly like the kind of ring Steve was ready to hunt down not an hour ago. He glances up at Eddie, unable to help an excited grin.
"So, I had a lot of different speeches prepared for this," Eddie says, carefully taking out the ring and tossing the box aside. "But now that we're here, none of it feels genuine enough. I love you so much that it literally hurts. My heart aches when you're not around, and I can't get enough air into my lungs if I can't see you. I spent this entire day preparing a dinner date and romantic gestures, and it was pure torture because I was too busy to hold your hand or kiss you. I would embrace death with you by my side, but I would truly die if we were apart. And I hope we never have to be, so please marry me, Stevie."
It takes everything in Steve to not interrupt Eddie with a kiss, but he somehow stays strong until the end. "Yes, of course, absolutely, now kiss me already," Steve says, grabbing Eddie's collar and yanking him close. He hears a surprised noise and almost apologizes when Eddie bites Steve's bottom lip and pushes a hand into his hair. Steve sighs softly, leaning fully onto Eddie and tasting the remnants of his toothpaste.
When Steve is just about to push Eddie down on the bed, he breaks the kiss and flashes a huge grin, his sharp canines in full view, and Steve has to stop himself from starting another kiss so he can drag his tongue against them. "I still have to put the ring on," Eddie says.
"Well, be quick about it. I wasn't done kissing you," Steve says, holding his left hand out and feeling inexplicably grounded when Eddie slips the ring onto his finger.

One more idea: the party realizing that Steddie is their role model for a healthy relationship due to how they interact with each other & the party. Like maybe they have a fight and the makeup & communication happens in front of Max. & Lucas sees Eddie joining Steve with his hobbies and Steve joining Eddie for his hobbies. Dustin seeing Eddie showcasing Steve's intelligence in a way he never would never have seen in any other way/situation. Mike & Will having a queer couple in love and functionally healthy.
EVERY TIME I SEE YOUR NAME FOR A REQUEST I'M CRACKING MY KNUCKLES AND GETTING READY TO GOOOOO! This was cute and fun and let me write short little bursts within one bigger thing which comes across as a nice quick read for people. I love things that just flow without being completely one thing? I don't know if that makes sense. I rarely do. Hopefully this does though! - Mickala ❤️
----------------------------------------------------
“You never clean up after, Eds. I’m just asking for you to do the dishes after Hellfire!”
“I’m tired after so I leave them in the sink to do in the morning, it’s not my fault you wake up before me and wash them!”
Steve and Eddie had been arguing for about five minutes now, not even noticing that Max had walked into the room when she’d heard them bickering.
“It’s part of having people over. You have to clean up after them.”
“I know and I would if you would just let me do it in the morning!”
Max watched as they both got more visibly frustrated, Steve’s face turning red and Eddie’s fists clenched at his sides.
She was half expecting one of them to storm out or Eddie to throw his fist through the wall.
He’d never hurt Steve, but sometimes anger flies in any direction it can.
Sometimes that direction is a person’s face. Sometimes it’s a wall.
Max was familiar with both.
But they just kept staring at each other, and Max kept staring at them, waiting.
Then, Steve let out a small laugh, and Eddie let out a small laugh.
Max felt her jaw drop.
What the hell was happening?
“I get up so early. Why do I do that?” Steve asked as Eddie crowded closer to him.
“I can’t tell ya, especially when you leave me alone in bed, cold, afraid, crying for attention.”
Steve snorted at Eddie’s theatrics, wrapping his arms around Eddie’s waist so he could run his hands up and down his back.
“You could just get up with me sometimes. We could clean up together.”
“Can’t we do it at a reasonable hour?”
Max was so confused. They went from arguing to seconds away from making out, and they were joking about it?
“How about on the mornings after Hellfire I sleep in 30 minutes, and we get up to do the dishes together?”
“I wash, you dry?”
“Deal.”
Steve gave him a quick peck on the lips, but Eddie deepened it, pulling him against him and smiling into the kiss.
Max decided she’d seen enough, confusion causing her to turn from the room and join the rest of the party again.
Will noticed she seemed out of it when she sat down, nudging her shoulder and raising his brows in question.
“Just saw Steve and Eddie arguing. I think. I’m pretty sure?”
“Arguing? Did they break up?”
“No, not at all. They argued for a few minutes and then kissed and talked about it? I dunno, kinda weird.”
Will snorted.
“You mean kinda how people are supposed to solve things?”
Max pushed his shoulder and scowled.
“Yeah, I guess.”
“They’re pretty good together, I think.”
Max rolled her eyes, but gave him a small smile.
“Yeah, they are.
—--------
“Okay, so this is rich coming from me and all, but you gotta plant your feet more. It’ll help you keep a centered balance before you make the throw.”
Steve had been practicing with Lucas for almost an hour now, sweat pouring off of them both as the summer sun beat down on their skin.
Lucas tried again.
“Better! Let’s run the drill again, you come up the side, I’ll toss the ball while you run, then you shoot. If you keep your feet planted, it’ll go in.”
Lucas nodded and ran to the spot where Steve told him, which happened to be where Eddie was sitting, reading a book with Steve’s sunglasses on.
“Is he making you do it again? Jesus Christ.” Eddie pushed the sunglasses down and yelled to Steve. “What did Lucas do to piss you off?”
“Nothing! Just read your book!”
“I just don’t understand the sportsball thing. Practice is important, duh, but like, this is the same drill for an hour. How can this actually be helping?”
“Do you not rehearse songs over and over before performing them?”
“Speaking of rehearsing, I have to be doing that in the next 40 minutes. You promised you’d come today!”
Eddie slipped the sunglasses back on as Steve rolled his eyes, but smiled at where Eddie was lounging.
Lucas saw it all happen.
Eddie hated basketball. He hated all sports, actually.
But he was always out here with them when Steve was practicing with Lucas, and he always sat with Steve at Lucas’ games during the school year. He almost always sat on the couch with him when it was March Madness time, most of the kids not having the patience for it, but Wayne finding his way to Steve’s house often and smirking at his nephew suddenly taking an interest in a sport he never bothered to watch before.
And Steve.
Steve was always with Eddie for his band rehearsals, even the ones that were just messing around. He went to every show, even the ones that were in Indy. He even wore his own Metallica and Dio shirts so he could fit in a bit more, even though he much preferred the popular hits on the radio.
Lucas saw how they showed up for each other.
He saw that they did it because they loved each other, supported each other in everything.
He thought about how his dad would always watch his mom’s favorite movies on date nights, how his mom would go to baseball games with his dad.
He thought about Max learning how to play D&D because she wanted to spend more time with Lucas and how he learned how to skateboard so he could go to the park with her. He couldn’t keep up with her, but he could still try.
He smiled to himself as Steve yelled for him to start.
—--------
Dustin was trying to be patient.
It’s just that his brain worked so much faster than a lot of people’s and it was frustrating being the first one to arrive at a solution to a problem.
They were playing a mini-campaign at Eddie’s insistence, introducing Steve to D&D slowly.
This campaign was kind of a joke, but Dustin let it slide because he was so happy that Steve was joining.
But it was getting kind of ridiculous how easy some of the traps were, how little they really had to think about what to do.
Lucas and Max joined in, but none of the rest of Hellfire was here. Eddie didn’t want to intimidate Steve too much on his first try.
But this was supposed to be the Big Bad. And they were trying to leave it up to Steve to make a decision on how they’d all proceed, let him kind of get the idea of what works and what doesn’t.
It was easy. Dustin saw the clear way through. He knew Lucas and Max could too.
Eddie was just waiting patiently for Steve.
“So we can’t go around the rocks because there’s nowhere to step outside of the poisonous lake. And we can’t jump because there’s low hanging vines that can sense when they’re touched.”
Eddie nodded, proud that Steve was catching up.
Dustin was losing his patience.
“Is there a reason we can’t just take the bad guy with us?”
What?
“What?”
Eddie’s brows furrowed for a moment.
“How would you do that?”
He can’t be serious.
“You can’t be serious.”
“Dustin, shut up for a minute.”
“Well, it just seems that all he wants is a part of the diamond treasure, right? He doesn’t want to kill us or hurt us, he just doesn’t want to lose his prize because of us.”
“Go on.”
Dustin was blinking at Eddie. No way could he really be letting Steve think like this.
“So since my charm is so high, I could just convince him to come with us, give him some of the diamonds, and send him on his way.”
“And what if he decides when you get there that he wants them all?”
“Isn’t there a diamond sword there?”
“That’s the legend, yes.”
“Then we could use the diamond sword to kill him. It can kill anything.”
Dustin snapped his mouth shut.
Hm.
Okay.
“What if the sword isn’t there?”
“Lucas still has his potion that makes anyone who drinks it fall asleep. If he turns on us, we offer him a drink before we go, slip the potion in, and he falls asleep so we can escape with the diamonds.”
Well.
Color Dustin surprised.
Steve had thought of everything. He’d come up with a plan, a backup plan, and a backup to the backup plan in only a couple of minutes.
Eddie beamed at Steve.
“Roll for charisma, my liege.”
Steve rolled his eyes, but rolled as Eddie asked.
“16! Plus 10 means 26. Is that good?”
Dustin was bouncing in his seat.
“That’s awesome! There’s no way he won’t be charmed to come with us.”
“Dustin’s correct!”
As Eddie continued with the campaign, Lucas nudged Dustin.
“Hey, Steve’s pretty good. You think he’d play a real campaign?”
“I hope so. None of us would have thought to charm him. Or remembered the diamond sword.”
He hated to admit it, but Steve had shown that he was incredibly smart, had paid attention from the beginning, and remembered everything Eddie had thrown at them.
He wouldn’t doubt Steve ever again, even if it took him a little longer to get there.
—--------
Mike stormed into the trailer, Will following behind him with tears in his eyes.
“Mike, wait!”
“No! You told me we didn’t have to tell anyone yet, and now you want to tell the whole party? No!”
Eddie walked in his living room from his bedroom, hair a mess from, well, activities.
“Uh. What’s going on?”
Mike turned to Eddie, face red, hair windblown like he’d run here.
“Will is pressuring me to come out!”
“No I’m not! I was just asking if he thought he would be ready to tell a few people soon! It’s okay if he says no.”
Will was about five seconds from crying and Eddie could not handle it if Will cried.
“Steve! I need backup! Now!” He yelled towards the bedroom, hoping Steve had enough common sense to get fully dressed before coming to see what was going on.
When he came down the hall, Eddie let out a breath of relief.
“What’s wrong?”
He looked at Will and Mike, how they weren’t facing each other but clearly wanted to.
“Apparently, Will asked if Mike was ready to come out to a select group of people and Mike thought he was pressuring him.”
“Ah. Been there.”
Mike and Will’s heads snapped to Steve.
“You have?”
“When?”
Eddie laughed.
“You think I wanted to keep it quiet that I managed to land the King of Hawkins High? No way in hell. I wanted to tell everyone immediately. All of you, all of my friends in the band, Wayne. Stevie here was against it though. Said he didn’t want to come out until he ‘got a read on everyone’.”
Steve shook his head.
“Yeah, yeah. I took my time. But I started to feel bad that Eddie was waiting on me. I loved him and he loved me, and I knew anyone he wanted to tell loved us.”
“So you gave in?”
Steve tilted his hand back and forth.
“A little. We told Wayne first as a test run. Eddie had been out to him for years, so he knew he would take it okay. After he did, we told the guys in the band.”
“And then you told us.”
“Actually! Steve didn’t want to tell any of you.”
“What?”
Steve and Eddie couldn’t help but notice the way Will and Mike were crowding closer together as they all spoke.
“Yeah, I kinda just didn’t want to have to do a big reveal. Figured it would be easier to just let you all figure it out.”
“I told him how much of a very bad idea that was. How hurt you all would be if you found out we were hiding anything.”
“Oh,” Mike said, looking down at the floor. “But it was to protect yourselves.”
“Yeah. And maybe it was the right call. But really we have the most supportive bunch of assholes around, his worry was kind of silly.”
“But what if they tell?”
“Well, that is risky. But they haven’t told anyone about us that didn’t already know, right?”
Mike looked at Will.
“Right.”
“Listen, the world sucks for people like us. It’s not easy having to have date nights as a group so no one gets suspicious or stay home so we can hold hands. It sucks,” Steve said as he grabbed Eddie’s hand. “But we know we can be ourselves around everyone in the party. And that makes things a lot easier.”
Mike was quiet as Will smiled over at Steve and Eddie.
“I didn’t mean to rush you, Mike. I just really want to be able to hold your hand at movie nights. Like we do when it’s just us, ya know?”
“Yeah.” Then Mike seemed to grow a bit more confident, puffing his chest out a bit and nodding. “Yeah, let’s tell them.”
He started to walk out of the trailer and Will’s eyes widened.
“Wait, now?”
“Yes, let’s go!”
“Uh.” Will turned to throw a wave at Steve and Eddie. “Thank you?”
“Anytime, Will the Wise,” Eddie said as Will left the trailer.
He turned to Steve and smirked at him, wrapping one arm around his waist to pull him closer.
“It’s really hot how you parent the kids.”
“Oh yeah? How hot?”
“I might need to tell you in the bed.”
“Ohhhh.” Eddie picked Steve up and walked him to their bedroom.
They didn’t bat an eye when they went to the next movie night and saw Will and Mike holding hands on the couch.

Tattooed Steve, pt. 2
Part 1 here
Soooo I ended up writing more tattooed Steve. I couldn’t resist. I also realized that Eddie would be the first person to find out but like…other than Robin. But I didn’t count her because Steve and Robin are the same person honestly at this point. Anyway I hope you like it! Pt. 1 is linked above.
—-
It’s two weeks after Vecna when he gets his first one. It’s unexpected, impulsive even, but Steve needs to feel something. He has just spent the past week and half waiting for Eddie to wake up, staring at his pale form, wishing away the anxiety with every beep, beep, beep that comes from the heart monitor. Begging for this stupid, stupid man to wake up.
He isn’t really sure why he wanted Eddie to wake up. Sure the ruggrats love him, and there is the general sense of not wanting any innocent person to die on his watch, but Steve knows deep down it’s about something else. Or more like the potential of something else. He tries not to think about it too hard.
So during that first week and half of watching a comatose Eddie, Steve takes his time studying the man. Learning every curve, and every scar. And eventually, every visible tattoo he can see. They are interesting, not all of them good, but all very Eddie. It somehow makes them better. Some of them are messed up from the bat bites (ironically the bat tattoos remain untouched), but they add to his aesthetic if Steve is being honest with himself.
When Eddie wakes up after that week and a half, groggy and confused (especially towards the fact that Harrington is practically holding vigil at his bedside), the first thing Steve says to him is “Oh thank god you’re awake.” The second is “What the hell were you thinking?” Before Eddie proceeds to pass out again.
Later, when all of the doctors and family and friends have had their time with him, the third thing Steve says to Eddie is, “Tell me about your tattoos.”
And despite the fact half of them are mangled, Steve doesn’t think he has ever seen anyone light up that bright in his life. And when Eddie starts waving his hands in excitement, Steve can’t help but think that he’s never been so close to the sun before.
So, two weeks after Vecna, Steve makes a decision. Or again, if he’s being honest, an impulse. He finds old books in the library about tattoos (which aren’t very helpful), and finds zines hidden between the pages (much more helpful) on stick and pokes.
Steve shows up with supplies from Melvad’s (for a probably very dangerous tattoo kit) at Robin’s doorstep. “Robs, I need you to give me a tattoo.” Then she proceeds to spit all of her morning tea on him.
After a lot of shouting “Did you hit your head again dingus? Oh my god did you get into another fight? Are you having a break down? SPEAK STEVE.”
And a lot of convincing, “Robin I’m fine. No I’m not having a breakdown. Robs, Robbie, Birdie, I swear nothing happen. I just want to do it.”
The end up on Robin’s bathroom floor (because of course all important things happen on the bathroom floor), with a look of deep concentration on her face. “I can’t believe you’re letting me do this, with only twenty minutes from a zine you smuggled out of Hawkins Library. I can’t believe they even have zines.”
“I don’t think they were aware of it honestly.” Steve snorts. His shirt was off, a patch hair already shaved off right where is heart is placed.
“Do you know what you want?” Robin asks, head tilted.
“No, not really. I was hoping you would help.”
Robin hums, like she’s resisting the urge to point out how impulsive he’s being. Like she knows he needs to do this. “Tell me what made you decide to want one.”
So Steve does. He tell her about waiting for Eddie to wake up. Wondering why Eddie got them. Wanting to own himself again, to actually like something new on his body. Put something there he had control of. His curiosity of if it were painful. His interest behind the stories of Eddies tattoos. How Eddie lit up so bright when asked. Wanting to feel like that. Wanting to be close to the sun again.
Robin mercifully didn’t look too deeply (or at least didn’t push on it) about the interest in Eddie himself. “Okay, I think I got it. Just…hold still.”
Twenty minutes later, after three passes with pen ink and a needle, Robin disinfects his tattoo. Before she covers up, she asks “Do you want to see it?”
Steve nods his head eagerly. The tattoo had painful, more painful than he expected, but he found it sort of grounding. Something to keep him aware of himself, almost as if he was able to grasp parts of himself he wasn’t conscious of before.
When Steve stands up to look in the mirror, there he sees off center on his chest, a wonky little sun. It was something a preschooler could have drawn, but it was one of the most beautiful things Steve had ever seen, and it was made by one of the most important people in his life.
Robin says shyly at Steve’s speechless state, “You said you wanted to be close to the sun again.”
Steve scoops Robin up in an instant, ignoring the stinging both on the outside and inside of his chest. “Thank you Birdie.” Which translates, you are the only person I ever need etched in me forever.
“Always, Stevie.” Which means, you’re never getting rid of me anyway.
They pull away with tearful smiles, and silent promises. Steve can start to feel maybe not much like his old self, but somewhere on the way to who he truly is.
Then Robin says, “Okay, me next.”
————
okay I wasn’t sure if really anyone wanted more, or if I was going to do it but I actually really enjoyed where this ended up. Also I apologize for any tense changes. I quite literally type this on my phone and say screw it, without looking it over. Let me know if you want more maybe? Send me prompts even. Thanks for reading :)

💗 Slow Kiss / Gentle Kiss / Inevitable / Soft
(Ahh thank you for the practice! I hope you enjoy 😊)
Steve wakes slowly, registering the feeling of warm sunlight on his face and Eddie pressed along the line of his back. He's holding Steve still, neither have moved since the night before, a novelty when it comes to Eddie.
He feels the arms around his chest tighten slightly, one hand traces down to squeeze Steve's hip as lips caress the back of his neck.
"Good morning," Eddie says softly in his ear.
Steve rolls onto his back as Eddie lifts himself up onto his elbow. There are pillow creases on his face and residual sleep in the corners of his eyes, but he's beautiful.
"Morning," Steve breathes out, reaching up to brush a wayward curl behind Eddie's ear, "you stayed".
Steve winces, acknowledging the unspoken thing was the fastest way to having it all disappear in his experience, and Eddie would be the first person to tell you he was a runner. It would only be a matter of time now until he left, thanking Steve for the experience, telling him they'd have to do it again sometime, and that would be that.
Because that was how it always went.
Right?
Instead, Eddie smiles gently, a small sad frown gathers between his eyes as he looks at Steve.
"Of course I did, sunshine," he says, leaning down to press his lips to Steve's own.
It's unhurried, lacking the fervor of the night before, the clash of teeth and tongue and bruising grip as though he would disappear.
Eddie breathes out through his nose and tilts his head, lifting his free hand to cup Steve's jaw as he brushes their lips together again and again.
Steve tries to speed things up, to open his mouth, to bring things back to where they had been mere hours ago only for Eddie to pull back and pepper his face with more soft kisses.
His eye lids, the tip of Steve's nose, his cheekbones, his chin.
Steve feels something dangerous bloom in his chest as Eddie lifts himself up again to look down at him.
Something he hasn't let himself hope for since Nancy.
But as Eddie dips down to nuzzle his nose into Steve's until they're both giggling in the morning sun, Steve can't help but feel that maybe this time things would be different.
Maybe this time, he would hope.

morning sun (and warm cotton sheets)
Rating: M | WC: 9k | Steve/Eddie Established Relationship, Morning After, Kissing
Eddie drifted into waking slowly, sleepily, by the warmth of the sun starting to stream through the crack in the curtain. It took the chill out of the room, the light of it hitting his bare back. It was nice — there was no blaring of his alarm dragging him out of sleep, no cold of winter forcing him to retreat under the comforters.
Instead it was warm, and calm, and still early, so Eddie let himself shut his eyes again. Rolling out the stiffness in his back as he snuggled down further into bed.
The sheets were soft — impossibly soft — as they were fancy ones Steve said they should splurge on because ‘just trust me, Baby’. And he was right, of course. He also grew up a rich kid, but whatever. The sheets were soft, and felt nice, and they made Steve give out his happy smile when Eddie said he loved them, actually. They hung loose around Eddie’s waist, gently brushing his bare skin, and he made no move to pull them up.
Sue him, he was comfortable. And if the sheets slipped down — exposing his pale ass, the hickeys littering his thighs —  then no harm done. The only person around to see is Steve, and Eddie didn’t think he’d mind, considering he gave them to him.
Eddie blinked, letting the light slowly flood his vision, turning head towards Steve’s side of the bed. It’s empty, sheets rumpled, still warm. It’s not a surprise, and Eddie’s not worried. His boyfriend has always been an insufferable morning person.
He reaches out to Steve’s side of the bed, instinctually, automatically, and pulls himself over to the warm spot Steve left behind. If he inhales, presses his nose to the sheets, Eddie swears he can still smell Steve. His cologne, his sweat, him. Eddie shuffles into a more comfortable position, snuggling down into Steve’s pillows and the dent he’s left in the mattress.
Curling his arms around his head, resting them there, using them to prop himself up slightly — Eddie turns his head to look at their now open bedroom door. He’s still lying stomach down in bed, sheets now tangled around his legs and slung low over his waist. If he moves, stretches — and he knows this for a fact — he’ll start to feel the ache in his back, his thighs, his ass; from his time with Steve last night. So he doesn’t move. Lets himself get enveloped by the warmth of the room, the soft sheets, and peers through his folded arms for any signs of his boyfriend.
The hallway light is on, the bathroom door propped open, so he knows Steve is still home. Good. Eddie likes to say goodbye to him before he leaves the house, no matter how early it is, no matter how late they stayed up last night. Likes the confirmation of his presence, that he’s been there, that he’ll be back. He was the same with Wayne, back in Hawkins. The two Munsons were always leaving each other notes and knocking on doors to say goodbye to the other.
Of course it didn’t go away with Steve. And Steve was always so nice about it, understanding. He had his own hang ups of course, so he got it. So whenever Steve had to leave the apartment, he’d find Eddie and say goodbye, cradle his cheek and give him a kiss. Leave him a note if he wanted to let Eddie sleep.
Today, Eddie can’t see Steve, but he can hear him, ever so faintly. The sound echoing out of the open bathroom door. The sound of rushing water, Steve’s voice starting to rise over the sound of the shower. He’s starting to sing, ever so faintly. Eddie can’t quite tell what it is, but it makes him smile.
He sounds happy, content, letting himself sing in the shower. So Eddie lets himself doze off again, tendrils of sleep wrapping around hid mind and drifting him back down again, listening to sounds of Steve’s singing. It’s the sweet, lazy sort of domesticity that Eddie thought he’d never get. Lazy mornings where he doesn’t have to rush off to work, or a deal, or run errands because something broke again. He can sleep in, can wake up and choose not to get out of bed, soothed by the sweet sounds of his boyfriend singing in the shower.

in the EMTTS, does Diane ever find out about the death threat letters to Steve? if her daughter watches Eddie’s tiktok she would’ve seen the videos about it so did she tell her mom? how would Diane react? would her reaction annoy Steve or would he actually find it sweet?
Oh man, her daughter would show her Eddie’s TikTok and Diane’s response would be the same one she has for a death in the family and divorces: desserts and being a pleasant presence in their lives.
Steve doesn’t immediately put two and two together because he kinda assumes that Eddie told their friends about it and that’s why people knew, not that he posted about it on the internet. He honestly just thinks that Diane is being her usual annoying self and thus, following the rules of upper-middle class etiquette, keeps having to bake for her.
She stops by one evening and brings them a plate of macaroons and spends an hour standing on their front porch talking about the neighborhood watch. They gained three new members. Steve interprets this as dig about his sleepwalking and then spends the rest of the evening hate-baking her a pie.
Steve is sitting outside waiting for his carpool one morning and she accosts him to have him try this new doughnut recipe she’s trying out. They’re begrudgingly delicious, but her interrupting the only peace and quiet he’ll get all day to talk about the neighborhood watch again is unforgivable. Steve makes her brownies.
Steve is laying with his back flat against the deck in the backyard, listening to Eddie chase Ozzy around the yard. His eyes are shut but he can feel the sun shining on him, and it’s the first time in a long time that he doesn’t feel like complete shit. So, of course.
“Yoohoo, boys,” Steve hears called over the fence and when he cracks his eyes open, he can see her waving at them. She has a tin of cookies with her and is already handing a homemade dog treat to Eddie, and Steve just sighs so deep within himself that he can feel it in his toes.
When he peels himself off the deck and drags himself over to have a pointless conversation by the fence, he can hear her talking about the neighborhood watch. Again. She is saying something about Suzanne down the street seeing a car circle the block a few time this week with their lights off, and Steve’s just had enough.
He doesn’t have it in him to bake another fucking pie.
He cuts off her rambling about being bad at guessing the make and model of cars with some barely concealed frustration, “That’s Ryan and Jackie’s kid. The one that just got a permit. He and his friends take their car out and joyride it around the neighborhood because Ryan refuses to teach him to drive.”
“We live in a cul-de-sac,” Steve adds because he thinks that she’s being a little ridiculous. He says it like he was no longer a person that had trouble leaving the house, that could open the mail without their hands shaking, that wasn’t in their backyard instead of on a run because they’re afraid – Wait.
Steve’s eyes flicker over to Eddie and then to Diane, and everything slots into place like the most obvious puzzle. Of course, she knows. Everybody probably knows. That’s why the neighborhood watch is suddenly so popular, and yeah.
Later when Steve can think about it all more rationally, it is sweet that their neighborhood is looking out for them and that they’re concerned. But in the moment, Steve feels like he’s been hit with a tidal wave of pity, and he gets frustrated. He gets angry.
He barely registers that he drops the cookie tin on the ground or hears Eddie’s blasé response about Steve’s clumsiness. He knows that he’s about to get mean and he doesn’t want to, so he just turns around and goes inside.
Eddie follows him a few minutes later, asking questions and says that it’s not a big deal that people know. He says that it’s actually better because it means there are more people looking out for him. Steve tells him that he’s not talking about it and goes to bed early.
He wakes up early too. He puts on his shoes and he goes across the street, and he tells Diane when she opens her door, “This needs to stop.”
“Oh good, you’re awake. When I saw you on the porch, I thought you might be…” She trails off, making a twirling gesture at her temple and then frowns. “Oh, that’s not correct, is it? April is always trying to teach me these new rules. I mean nothing by it, dear.”
“I’m not – I’m not broken,” Steve says. “I’m not sick, or weak, or – and I don’t need you to bake things for my husband or form a neighborhood watch for me. I need-“
“Dear, that’s simply not true,” She says, voice dropping into something serious. This might be the first time that Steve has ever seen her not smiling. “I heard about those awful letters you got sent to your door and you may not like it, but at times like these. You need people. You may not like that it’s me, sweetie, but that’s what you got.”
Steve hates how he feels like he’s ten years old and making up excuses for why his parents didn’t pick him up, “I can look after myself.”
“I’m sure you can, but do a girl a favor and let us look after you too,” She says. She must see that he’s not thrilled with that statement because she tells him about a sorority sister she had and the anonymous notes she used to find, and how they buried her two years after graduating.
So, she takes his hand and gives it a squeeze, “Let me do this. For me.”
Steve doesn’t pull his hand away and admits maybe for the first time, “I’m so scared all the time.”

two
eddie groans as he feels someone tugging on his hair. he tries to keep his eyes closed, hoping that it’s all in his head.
“daddy?!”
eddie opens his eyes and looks to see his only son. his big brown eyes staring right back into eddie’s.
“what’s wrong, peanut?”
aster sniffles. “bad dream, daddy. sleep with you and mommy?”
eddie could never say no to his kids. he lifts his baby boy up and puts him between him and yn. aster cuddles up to his father.
“wanna talk about it, peanut?” eddie asked.
the little boy shakes his head as he puts his thumb in his mouth and falls asleep. eddie and yn are trying to get him to break the habit, but the little boy just looks so innocent and adorable, they’d allow him to get away with murder if they could.
eddie kisses the top of his sons head. he slowly falls back to sleep soon after.
when the sun rises the house becomes hectic! every morning is the same routine. the eldest kids came walking into their parents room, waking both eddie and yn, begging for breakfast, while the youngest starts welling, most likely hungry just as much.
when it’s just yn, wayne and her father come to help the best they can—or eleven depending if she has school or not—when eddie is home, he’d take care of the older kids, making breakfast, while yn takes care of the newborn babies, breast feeding them in the privacy of their room.
“daddy! daddy! daddy! are we having cakes?!” jasmine would scream at the top of her lungs. she has eddie’s personality through and through! she’s loud, adventurous, and playful. she got her mothers looks though—if you ask yn she’d say she’s eddie’s twin—eddie loves his daughter spunk. sometimes they’d get complaints from neighbors, but eddie couldn’t care less!
if his baby girl wanted to loud and obnoxious, goddammit he’s gonna let her be!
“yes, baby!”
jasmine cheers. pancakes are her favorite because she believes it’s actually cake. neither eddie nor yn would correct her. if it got her eating it, it’s a win for the young parents.
eddie chuckles at his daughter. he soon hears someone blabbering as he turns to spot yn holding the twins.
they’re six months today. eddie made a joke about them going to college the other night and yn lost it, tears spilling her eyes over and over. eddie had to comfort her and hold back a laugh.
“how are my favorite twins?” eddie kisses the top of their heads.
poppy and azalea just babble happily. eddie chuckles as he goes back to making breakfast.
when he finished he set the table while him and yn made plates for their kids. yn sets the twins in their bin before the rest of the family sit and eat together.
Tumblr media
during the weekend, yn and eddie normally take the kids to the park! with their oldest two, they’ve both got use to going out and playing due to being in preschool and kindergarten.
eddie chases his eldest daughter while yn sits with the younger kids and kept an eye on the others.
aster currently playing in the sandbox, while lunaria and lily play with their toys near yn, and the twins babbles in their stroller.
“mama, daddy caught me!” jasmine yells.
“he did?!” yn pretends to be shocked.
eddie chuckles as he walks closer to you. jasmine sits on your lap and kisses your cheek. she’s always been affectionate! eddie and yn both coo at her.
“you tired, baby?” yn runs her hands through her hair. she’s got eddie curls for sure!
“no.” she yawns soon after.
“we need to head home anyway, dear. uncle stevie and uncle dusty are coming over!”
jasmine loves her uncle steve and dustin! mostly because they give her treats every time they come around.
“really?!”
“yep! so, let’s get your brother and head out, yeah?”
“yeah, mommy! aster, uncle dusty and stevie coming! gotta go home!” jasmine yells to her brother. yn and eddie laugh at how excited she is.
“kay.” aster walks over to his parents. eddie grabs his hand before picking him up.
“wat we havin’ daddy?” aster curious on what’s for dinner as always.
“don’t know, ask mama!”
aster turns to his mom. “hmm, im thinking spaghetti and meatballs!”
“yum, mommy. love spesgettie.” aster states.
“i know you do, baby. come on, let’s get you all in you car seats.”
Tumblr media
when they get home, yn starts on dinner. eddie goes outside to take a business call. now that the twins were born, eddie is getting back into focusing on the band!
yn is very excited for what’s to come with corroded coffin! especially the money coming in. yn and eddie did alright, they had to with six kids!
eddie still getting money from the band here and there, but corroded coffin still had a little ways to go before they make big money!
yn was also getting money from her agency. she also gets paid every time she post on instagram. but again, it’s not big money!
yn and eddie are still staying in a three bedroom trailer house. they want to be able to get a bigger home so their kids won’t have to split up to share a room.
plus eddie wants yn to have her dream wedding! it’s what she deserves. the big white princess dress, flowers everywhere, all their friends and family, her perfect wedding!
yn tells him time and time again that didn’t matter. she lets him know she’d marry him near a dumpster if she gets to spend the rest of her life with him! but eddie wants his family to have it all!
yn knows it’s because of how he was raised—before wayne took him in and raised him to be the man he is today—
little eddie suffered so much. with his abusive father and his mom leaving him for dry, he didn’t want his family to suffer like he did! he’d be damned if he didn’t show his kids just how much they meant to him.
yn constantly letting him know he’s nothing like his father! their babies are loved and cared for like no other.
when eddie comes back inside the house, steve and dustin are right behind them.
“uncle stevie!” aster being the first one to spot them.
“aster! how’s my favorite little dude doing?!” steve picks him up.
“had bad dream, uncle stevie.” he pouts.
steve frowns. “oh, no! what happened?”
aster shakes his head as he rest it on steve’s shoulder. steve knew he didn’t wanna talk about it. instead he wanted to be coddled. steve would never deny him cuddles.
“daddy, uncle dusty gave me candy!” jasmine yells
eddie glares at dustin. he told him no candy for them until after dinner. “did he now?”
dustin gives his a cheeky smile. “can daddy see?”
jasmine shows her father the small handful of candy dustin gave her. he grabs them before kissing her forehead. “you know the rules, baby?”
“mhm, din first, then candy!”
eddie hums. “good! dinners almost ready. why don’t we all go wash up, yeah?”
“kay!” steve, eddie, and dustin help the kids wash their hands while yn sets the table. soon everyone sits at the table and enjoy dinner.
Tumblr media
eddie and yn put their kids to bed while steve and dustin sit in the living room waiting for them patiently.
when eddie comes back he heads for the fridge, grabs two beers, and one soda. eddie hands one beer to steve and the soda to dustin.
he sits on the couch and turns on the tv. yn comes in view and sits right next to her fiancé. eddie wraps his arms on the back of the couch as yn cuddles up to eddie.
“so, when’s the next big gig man?” steve asked eddie.
“next tuesday! headed to new york city.”
“dude, the big apple? you’re really making it, huh?”
eddie hums as he takes a sip of his beer. yn smiles at him lovingly. “before you know it, corroded coffin will be selling out tickets worldwide!”
eddie laughs. “lets not get ahead of ourselves, baby!”
“you, kiddin’ eds? you’re gonna be a legend! top of the world, dude! bigger than metallica.”
“okay, dustin, now you’re getting ahead of yourself!”
dustin shakes his head. “naw, eds! you’re a star!”
eddie smiles. truth is, he knows the bands making a name of themselves! sooner rather than later they’d have many streams on spotify, apple music, and many buying their cds and more! eddie is one hundred percent prepared for his life to do a complete one eighty.
and everyone else in this god forsaken town could kiss his ass! they all doubted him the moment he came out of the womb. he’s proven them wrong on many things!
they all thought he’d be a criminal, he a good citizen! they all said no one would love him, the smartest most prettiest woman fell for him! they claimed he’d be a shitty father just like his old man, he loves and cherishes all his kids! and they all say he’d stay white trailer trash who’ll amount to nothing, eddie is signed to one of the greatest rock legends out there!
eddie continues to prove everyone who doubts him wrong!
“when you make it big eddie, better not forget us!” steve states.
“oh harrington, i could never forget mister hair himself!” eddie smirks.

💕—————💕
They laid in the quiet dark stillness of their Chicago bedroom. For once, it seemed like the bustling neighborhoods of the city were silent. As if the world slowed just for the two of them.
Eddie’s laying on his back. Steve’s wrapped around his right side, cheek squished to his shoulder, arm thrown over his waist, legs tangled, breathing slow and easy between them. He traces his right index finger down Steve’s spine, loving the way goosebumps mingle with his moles. He’s never been more in love in his life.
There’s a brand new silver band on Steve’s left finger. Purchased a week after his impromptu proposal. And he’s never been more sated in his life. He wakes up in the early morning, craving a hot cup of coffee, wandering into the kitchen. He comes around the corner to see Steve at their dining table, orange peeled and slices laid out, his hands wrapped around his mug. That ring shiny, so beautiful on his hand. Belonging. Not permanent, Eddie knows that, but it signifies the permeance he’s willing to share with Steve—and he doesn’t have to put up much of a fight to be loved and desired. Which is apparent in the way he sits across from Steve every morning, a freshly peeled orange set out for him and his own steaming mug of coffee waiting for him.
He splays his palm over Steve’s back, squeezing him in closer with his arm, dropping a chaste kiss to his head of unstyled and silky hair. Adoration surges through him at the realization that he’s the only one who gets to see Steve this way. Soft and sleepy and syrupy slow.
“I can’t wait to marry you,” Eddie whispers, gently tapping on the glass of their silence.
Steve hums on his shoulder, turning his head, kissing the bare skin there. He sighs into the hold. “Me too,” he murmurs, “I just wish we could have a whole wedding. Have it be real.”
“Weddings don’t make a marriage real,” he says in turn. “They just mark an anniversary, sweet thing. Our love is real. That’s enough for me.”
“Yeah, but—“ He sighs again, something a little sad. “Don’t you ever think about having a wedding? About wearing a nice tuxedo? Like…I could imagine you wearing a maroon one and I’d have a black one or something.” Steve nuzzles Eddie’s bare shoulder, squeezing his waist, bringing his hand up to trace at the edge of one of his nastier scars. When Eddie looks down, Steve is peering at his hand.
Eddie drags his hand up to Steve’s scalp, dully scratching the way he knows he likes. “Okay, I’ll indulge,” he mutters. “If we could have a wedding, what would you want it to look like?”
The smile to his bare shoulder is enough to know that it was a good question.
“The tuxedos would be the same, I think,” Steve starts. “And we’d have all of our friends and family from Hawkins. Nobody from Chicago. They don’t know us as deep, as intimately.” He hums, thinking. “The chairs would be classy wedding white, decorated with fluffy pink roses on the back. And it would all be outside. So that we could get married under the sun and dance under the moon.
“It doesn’t matter to me what kind of food we have. Or how big the cake is. Or who walks down the aisle. Just that my best man is Robin and Dustin officiates.”
“Why would Dustin officiate? I feel like Hopper would be the best person for the job,” Eddie states.
“Because he like—“ Steve’s hand leaves Eddie’s torso, instead fluttering up in the air. Landing down softly on his skin when the words come to him. “Dustin is really good at remembering things! He’d be able to remember the whole ‘do you take so and so to be your lawfully…’ Whatever it is, I can’t even remember.” He sighs and relaxes. Almost boneless in their embrace, definitely getting sleepy enough to fall asleep. “The words don’t even have to be the same. I just want to say ‘I do’ and kiss you and then slow dance with you. That’s really all I want,” Steve breathes.
“One day we’ll have that wedding, Steve,” Eddie promises. “We will and you’ll be so happy.” He squeezes at Steve’s own bare shoulders, dragging his hand down his spine again, lulling him closer to sleep. “One question I have is, what would our wedding song be?”
“I think,” Steve whispers. “Think I like ‘Just the Way You Are’ by Billy Joel. Doesn’t it match us?”
Eddie nods against his pillow. “Wayne has that record somewhere,” he mutters. “You think Robin works tomorrow?”
“No, why?”
“Just remembered something that I need to ask her. Has to do with Vickie, but she won’t be home tomorrow. Go to sleep, baby. I’ll call her tomorrow.”
Steve’s snores against his skin is like white noise to his ear.
This wedding is going to happen, whether it be legal or not.
——— “So, we have tuxedos to wear…for a simple dinner at the local Mexican place?” Steve asks, a confused scrunch to his eyebrows, holding up a black suit in the mirror. “I don’t see why—“
“Steve, just put it on, you goofball.” Eddie saunters out from their bathroom. Chest to Steve’s back. Hands on his hips. He presses a kiss to his cheek. “Just do this silly thing with me, it’ll be worth it.” Steve hums, giving in. “Oh, no margaritas while we’re there. I’ve got plans with you afterwards and you can’t be tipsy for them,” he whispers.
“Oh come on,” Steve whines. “But that’s like my favorite part of that place. You can’t get them that cheap like anywhere!” He eyes Eddie in the mirror, but sinks further into the hold. “Fine,” he grumbles. “I’ll put on the suit and we’ll get orange soda with our nachos. And I’ll see it through.”
“Thank you,” Eddie sings into his ear. “Gotta do my hair, meet me in the car when you’re done jazzing yourself up.”
Operation Steve in Suit is successful. Eddie sees himself to their bathroom once more, tying up his hair, curling his bangs slightly with Steve’s flat iron. Sprays on some cologne and rushes down to the car. Just in time to put in the new tape he picked up. The Stranger by Billy Joel. He is hoping with everything inside of him that Steve is oblivious today. That he doesn’t catch on immediately.
The plan is that Robin and Vickie are coming over to their apartment. They’re going to cut up some roses, take all their supplies, sneak back out to their place, and wait for everybody else. Eddie paid for chairs, the arch. Got Joyce and Hopper and Claudia from out of town, they’ll be there with Argyle to cater some of the food; barbecue and pizza. Dustin will be there with Suzy to practice officiating. Max and Lucas have the rings. Erica and El will throw some flower petals. Will’s painting them saying I do. And Mike is getting all the music equipment set up.
Wayne’s going to walk Steve down the aisle, give him away. Because Steve’s parents won’t be there, but good riddance. And of course, Robin is Steve’s best man. In her own matching black suit. Nancy is Eddie’s best man, also in a beautiful maroon get up.
It may not all go according to plan, but the vague outline and steps are there. And if he can just get Steve to not go detective mode on him, then Eddie’s going to get away with this dream. He’s gonna make this come true, determined to in fact.
——— The other night, Eddie asked Steve to draft up vows.
“Why?” Steve asked skeptically.
Eddie had shrugged. “Well, gives us practice? I don’t know. I began writing mine.”
“You—What?!” Steve shouted. “You started writing vows? But we can’t even—“
“Doesn’t matter,” Eddie said simply. “It’ll be something we could share later.”
And he had watched as Steve sat at their dining table. Five different sheets of paper scattered about the surface. His tongue poking out between his lips in concentration. Scratching and scribbling and furiously writing things down. Some lines earned a lovesick grin on his face, others brought tears to his eyes.
When he was finished, he slipped the final draft between the pages of his intro to education textbook. He wasn’t very sneaky about it. Almost like he wanted Eddie to find them, but he held off.
Until today.
——— Nachos were exceptional. And Steve half-heartedly grumbled at not having his usual meal. But he was satisfied with a Fanta and his greasy chips. Turns out he can still pack it away without the alcohol. And he’ll offer up the last chip if there isn’t a slice of jalapeño on it. Eddie takes the chip from Steve’s fingers, lets it be fed to him, and gazes at his soon-to-be husband as his eyes go soft and endearing with the swallow.
“I feel like it’s always better coming from your hands rather than mine,” Eddie lowly whispered. “Lots of things are better with your hands, come to think of it.” He reached across the table and tangled his hand with Steve’s left. His mood ring clinking with Steve’s silver band. God, he can’t wait to replace that thing. “Like my hand is better with your hand in it.”
Steve’s face flushed pink. “You’re a sap,” he murmured. “What’s gotten into you today?”
Eddie shrugged. “Something must be changing, sweetheart. Maybe I’ve gone Grinch on you. Maybe your heart made mine three times bigger.”
“Maybe,” Steve whispered. “But I think you’re up to something.”
“Who said I was up to something?”
“Aha!” Steve exclaimed, before quickly covering his mouth with his hand. A few sets of eyes turned to him, but went back to their food almost immediately. He snickered. “Aha,” he whispered, “Knew you were doing something. Come on, what’s your plan? Why are we wearing suits? How come your hair is up and sleek? What are we doing, babe?”
“Not saying a word,” Eddie dragged. He pulled back and slipped his hand away, stuffing them into his pocket to pay for their check. With the card in his hand, keys in the other, he stood. “Come on, baby doll, we’ve got somewhere to be.”
And with his excitement levels through the roof, Steve bounced up onto his feet, wiggling in place, following like a happy dog on Eddie’s heels.
——— “Keep your eyes closed,” Eddie whispered in Steve’s ear. His hands were already pressed into his eyes, but he couldn’t risk a goddamn thing. They already struggled getting him up the few steps leading to Robin’s front door. All they need to do now is finish walking through her house, through the back door, and wait for Wayne to hook his arm with Steve’s.
That’s all they need to do.
“Smells like Robin in here,” Steve murmurs. “Like…Lavender and chamomile and…Saffron? Is that the other spice she uses in her tea? I can’t—Are we at Robin’s, Eds?”
Eddie chuckled. “Stop asking so many questions. Just focus on moving your feet.”
They took three more small steps before he spoke up again. “Your hands are sweaty,” Steve whispered. “Why are you so sweaty?”
“Baby,” Eddie sighed. “Just move your feet. It’s warm, I’m warm, so I’m sweating.”
Steve hummed, a little unsatisfied. His voice shook, a little nervous, “Nothing is going to jump out at me, right? You know how I get about stuff like that.”
He pressed a kiss to Steve’s temple. “I promise I wouldn’t do that to you, sweetheart. What we’re doing is completely safe, you’re completely safe. I wouldn’t do this if it put you or I in danger, sweet thing.”
Finally, they moved in silence. Steve moving sluggishly, but efficiently enough. And eventually, Eddie’s hand drifted to the back door, sliding it open, stepping out onto the porch. He nodded towards Wayne, his arm slowly wrapping with Steve’s as Eddie’s hands fell away. Quickly, Eddie sidestepped the both of them, walked by all their friends in their cute little seats, and stood at the makeshift archway. He cupped his palms over his mouth and shouted, “Open your eyes, sweetheart!”
In real time, Steve’s cheeks lit up bright pink, his eyes going misty and shiny and stunning. His lips wobbled minutely before stretching into the most glistening, brightest, sunshine like smile Eddie’s ever seen. He mentally pats himself on the back. Good job, Ed, Wayne’s voice echoes in his brain, Made a damn good choice.
Steve giggles. “What is all this? When did—How did—Everybody’s here!”
Beside Eddie, a little radio began to play. The cheesy, classic “Bridal Chorus”. He can’t stop the smile that plasters itself to his face. The pride surging through him. His warmth, his hard beating heart, the satisfaction washing over him in waves. “Come over here, baby, Wayne’ll guide you.”
The first few steps Steve takes are slow and curious and hesitant. But as he strides past the smiling faces of all the people who love him, the people who matter, he grows confident. Goes excited and wonderful. And with no time lost, he’s standing in front of Eddie. A dry kiss pressed to his cheek, pressed to Eddie’s from Wayne. And then they take each other’s hands.
“Said you wanted a wedding,” Eddie says, “So here’s Dustin to officiate it.”
It’s a lot of Dustin stuttering over his words, parsing through pages in his hands, confusion muddling part of his sentences. But the content gaze on Steve’s face is all that matters. Dustin could be reading pig latin and Steve would still be smiling.
Though, when it comes to their vows, Steve’s smile falters. “But I don’t have mine,” he murmurs, a bit sad and a lot defeated.
“Don’t worry, I got you,” Eddie whispers. He stuffs his hand inside his blazer, pulling out two folded, loose leaf notebook pages. He hands one off to Steve. A confused glance thrown at him. “You don’t hide things very well. Practically begging for me to read them. Which, I didn’t! That’s your job.” He unfolds his own and then gazes back. “You wanna read yours first?”
Steve grips his paper tighter. Hesitantly nodding, flushing darker on his cheeks. “Uh—I, they aren’t very good. Probably inadequate, honestly.” Though, he brings them closer to his face to read:
“Eddie Munson, you have been and continue to be the reason I believe in things like love and desire. Which, that sounds cheesy, I know. But you know me better than I seem to know myself most days. Every morning, you de-pulp my orange. And you press a sticky kiss to my cheek and tell me how proud you are of me.
“You’ve believed in me even when I thought I was doomed. You have been the reason I refuse to give up on myself. Because you show me, everyday, that I am worth the time. That I am worth the cause. And that I am worthy to follow what my heart needs, desires.
“I can say, confidently, that you are what my heart desires. Everything I do has a little bit of you in it. In fact, on the morning I’m writing this, I listened to a Black Sabbath tape in my car on my way to school. And headbanged the entire time—It hurt my neck, but I understood why you do it. There’s something satisfying about it all. About the way you express your emotions, how you soften your hands when you touch me, how you fill a space both with energy and language.
“It’s funny, I think, that some almost ten years ago, I was jealous of you. Because you were encroaching on my friendships and being braver than I could ever be. But everyday, I realize that all I can do is envy you. Respect you. For being yourself, for teaching me how to be myself. For showing me what it’s like to truly be alive.
“And I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life, alive in your space and your memories and your words. Filled to the brim with your love and then some. I love you more than I thought I could every single day. You are a reason to keep moving, Eddie Munson, and I am dancing.”
When Steve pries his eyes away from his paper, he’s glistening like a diamond in the rough. One in a million. The beacon of light in Eddie’s shadows. They’re crying, but they’re smiling. And it’s all so wonderful, so darling. He didn’t think he’d get this.
“Shit, Steve,” Eddie wetly chuckles. “You’re a poet, ain’t you? No wonder your going to school for literature.” He giggles again. Lets Steve cup his cheek to wipe his tears. Snorts back a disgusting bubble of snot that threatens to leave him. Takes a few grounding breaths and brings his own paper up. “I don’t know if mine will be good, but here we go.” He clears his throat and reads:
“Steve Harrington, where do I even begin with the likes of you?
“You are sunshine. Golden, warm, beautiful. You bring life to things around you. I find myself in your orbit even when your body isn’t there. My clothes often smell like your cologne. And my hair is soft from your haircare skills. My head is filled with pop lyrics and a new sports statistic that I may hear in passing. Sometimes, when you aren’t home, I find myself reading each and every single one of your baseball cards. Just to know you impossibly more.
“Despite some of those silly things, the mundane in it all, I am so glad to be living the simple life with you. To even be alive because of you. Because we haven’t talked about it, I know, but that’s the case. Your hands started my heart, quite literally. You breathed air back into my lungs, also quite literally. But my heart beats the syllables of your name, my lungs inhale your words like oxygen. Every moment with you makes me feel more alive than ever. In every slow morning, waking up to your snores muffled in my shoulder, hair tickling my jaw, your limbs tight around my torso. I am reminded in every morning, having you by my side, that I am alive.
“Because of you. Your determination. Your strength and fortitude. I have you to thank for my life and liveliness. I have you to thank for showing me that there is more than prejudice and bias. I have you to thank for every aspect of who I am as a person.
“Where I would be without you, I don’t even want to know. I am so elated to live the rest of our long, long lives with you by my side. With your warmth in every corner. And your laugh like music to my ears. Your touch like honey on my hands, sticky and somehow always there, but for that I will be thankful.
“In my darkest hours, you are my light. In my brightest hours, you are the shade that protects my skin. And in every hour of every morning, you are the love that surges through my soul.
“I love you, Steve Harrington, and I am determined to show you in all the moments of forever what that means to me.”
Enamored is one way to describe Steve’s face when he looks up. Absolutely lost in the space between them. His hand is on his cheek once more, wiping away tears. His lips pursed to coo. Eyes soft, so damn soft, every ache in Eddie’s body dissipates.
The kiss they share to seal it all, it may not be any different from every single one they’ve shared. But the way their breaths mingle, they breathe forever between pulls of lip.
Eddie’s never been one to think of himself as a married man, but the beginnings of this wedded life—not much different than how he’s already been living—tastes good. He gets to brag about a spouse, that’s something new. Oh, the bragging rights he’s privy to now. What a wonderful, wonderful thing.
——— Steve’s not a good dancer still, Eddie realizes. He steps in time to their song. But he more so just sways in place while Eddie leads. His eyes are soft still like a glowing candle’s flame. Eddie’s chest is lit by a passionate fire.
“Stevie, baby,” he whispers. “Is this basically everything you hoped it would be?” He nuzzles his nose into Steve’s, kisses his cheek, and pulls back to gaze.
“This is everything I wanted and more,” he murmurs. “I can’t even tell you how happy I am. Like all I want to do is just jump in place or something. There’s no words to say.” He drops his forehead to Eddie’s shoulder, his hair silky against his neck. “You even got the pink roses for the backs of every chair, how’d you do that?”
Eddie shrugs. “Talk to Robin and Vickie about that one. They’re the creative geniuses here.”
“I still can’t believe you got everybody to come out here for us,” he whispers.
“Are you kidding, Stevie? When I called Robin to say that I wanted to have a backyard wedding, she screeched her excitement into my ear. She could’a blown up my eardrum,” he chuckles. “Everybody else was easy. Just called them and said we were having a wedding, that it was a surprise, and they were on board.”
A barely there kiss is pressed into his neck, Steve’s breath ghosting. “I love you so much, Eds. Thank you.”
“I love you, too.” He pulls Steve back a little as their song dies down. The last of Billy Joel serenading between them. “How about we go slice some cake? Hear some stories. We’ve got a honeymoon to go on.”
The way Steve bounds away from him, jumping on the balls of his feet, hands fluttering at his sides by the cake stand fills Eddie with glee.
Good job, his own voice echoes inside him, you made your husband really happy.
He didn’t think he’d ever get this. But by the side of the person who saved him, quite literally and metaphorically, he realizes he has the chance to have everything. Steve is everything.
Every word in the language of the universe and that still wouldn’t be enough to describe the love he carries. Love was a fleeting thing before. Before somebody like Steve Harrington.
💕—————💕 I had so much fun writing for nearly every prompt, sans the very first day. I hope this is a satisfying last fic to round off my writings for steddielovemonth. Thank you for all the support on every fic. Sorry if I made you cry, but I hope this soothes. Eventually, I'll have a whole folder where my fics are in chronological order. It's home. He's home and its late and its dark. he knows he should have been home hours ago, wishes he could have been but work finished late and then one deal ran into another and before he knew it he was an hour and a half from home at 1 in the morning. After the last deal was done Eddie made his way back in his van, eyes red and itchy with the overhwleming desire to close but painfully aware of the distance he had to drive. After a lot of cut corners and questionable driving he was finally pulling up to the trailer.
All he wants to do is sleep but even in his tired state he clocks the light on in the window. Knowing that lights don't just get 'left on' when there are bills to pay and mouths to feed Eddie enters the trailer quietly, hoping that its not an ominous sign. Hoping as well that this isn't the precursor to getting yelled at for being out late and not telling anyone…again.
As silently as he can Eddie pulls the door open and steps in side. So far so good, nobody has started shouting yet but as he turns he sees the lamp glowing beside the couch and can hear the radio on low. Comforting sounds of Eddie's younger years playing Credence Clearwater Revival. It is at this point Eddie catches the figures waiting in the dim light. Wayne at the end of the couch, hot mug of something in his hand. His expression is one Eddie is well used to, concentrated and contemplative, measuring the words he says and actions he takes. He's in his pyjammas but far from sleep. He's angled towards the figure on the couch next to him. The person, only translated into Eddie's head as 'human' after he deciphered half of the mass as blankets and hair, sits hunched over themselves and hugs their own mug in close.
Eddie takes a step forward, makes to sit down as Wayne talks slow and gentle 'Your boy had a bit of a fright son. Thought I'd break out the big guns and show him what we used to do when you first came home'
He doesn't say the rest, doesn't need to. When Eddie came to stay with Wayne the nights were endless. He'd wake himself up in tears, too scared to go find comfort incase he got pushed away but somehow Wayne always knew. Eddie would never be alone in the dark long before the hall light went on and Wayne was knocking at his door, offering hot milk and a distraction. Eventually the routine turned into going over old photo albums of Wayne's 'glory days' and then, the new additions after Eddie's arrival. It quickly became a fail safe for the both of them when the dark nights and silence were too much.
Which is how Eddie ends up here, sat close to the mass, Steve, a hand crept under the blanket that was quickly latched on to. A photo album is sat across Steve's lap and Wayne talks him through the story of his own high school band and then quickly moves on to the photo of Eddie knee deep in mud and arms out stretched ready to pull the photo taker into the mess with him, devious smile on his 10 year old face, a hint of the dungeon master yet to come.
The stories continue, ranging from photos of a young Eddie in rubber boots and a sun dress to Wayne in denim shorts and an awful sunburn as he points a spatula at the camera in a rustic looking kitchen. This ritual calms them all between the quiet laughter and tired gasps of surprise, eventually Steve's shoulders relax and Wayne's voice becomes somehow even more subdued. Eddie is fully leaning into Steve's space and the warmth between the three of them somehow heats the whole trailer.
They are all close to sleep when Eddie takes the album off Steve's lap and manages to force himself to stand, pulling Steve up with him and still swaddled in his blanket. Eddie makes to guide Steveto their bedroom when he's met with resistance. Steve pulls the blanket tighter to himself but shifts his shoulders back, almost as if to brace for a fight when he tilts his head towards Wayne ' Thank you. I- I've never...Just thank you' he's got his back to Eddie but Eddie can hear the crack in his voice, the battle to keep the emotion down, can see the slight tremour in the blanket as Steve works to keep himself together. Its all for nothing when Wayne stands and places a hand on his shoulder before bringing him into a forceful hug 'Son, you never have to thank me'.
Its a moment that Eddie knows will be seared into his heart until the day it stops beating. The two men holding on, however briefly, to each other, both understanding the other person that little bit more and sharing more of their soul in the process.
There's a pause as they separate and Eddie takes Steve's hand tugs him forward and lets him lead the way to the bedroom. Before he turns to follow Eddie catches Wayne's eye and they share a somber smile. Eddie's heart feels like its going to collapse on itself when he thinks about how Wayne doesn't understand the traumas these boys have been through but how that hasn't stopped him from being there for them.
It doesn't go unspoken, this feeling between Eddie and his Uncle. They find time, they always do, where they put their music on and talk in that unhurried way about what they've been doing, catching each other up on their lives and knowing the love is there.
For now, Wayne tilts his head up 'that's a good one you've got there son.' All the endorsement Eddie could ever want, caught in a few words 'now go to him and let me get my bed' its a grumbled statement that has more meaning than can be explained. Eddie gives a mock salute, knowing that the nightmares and stories will be re-hashed when the time is right. But for now the urgency has been tamed and the fire burns low in their hearts.
Before he gets to the kitchen there's a final 'and I need my sleep boy so don't get any ideas' from the couch. 'wouldn't dream of it old man'

liam! it's your birthday! I'm so so so grateful for our friendship and I absolutely adore you! hope this little bit of fluff makes you smile! ilysm! @withacapitalp
Steve wakes up on the morning of his 20th birthday to find a warm beam of sunlight creeping in between the shades, rose gold and transparent against his skin. It slices him on a diagonal and smolders from the left side of his bare stomach to the right side of his forehead. He’s always loved the heat, and he can’t help but think that perhaps the sun was doing its best to signal the beginning of a good year— a Vecna-free year, a funeral-free year, an apocalypse-free year. Of course, he’s made this same wish on the morning of his last two birthdays too, but he staves off the pessimism in favor of hope. It’s a dangerous thing, hope, but Steve’s made a few dangerous decisions of late, so what’s one more?
The covers shift between his legs as he rolls to the side and untangles himself from the rogue sheet wrapped around his ankle. Dangerous, he thinks, as he drags himself into the bathroom and through his morning routine. Telling his friends he’s not as straight as they’d all thought might not have been dangerous in and of itself, but telling Eddie? Well, that feels dangerous. It feels like tiptoeing too close to a landmine, like packing up his heart into a convenient knapsack and walking out onto a tightrope. It feels like almost telling his crush he likes him, probably because he almost has no less than a dozen times.
Lather forms as he massages shampoo into his scalp in small circles before rinsing and going back in with conditioner— twice, like always, as he thinks about the party tonight. Since it’s been out there, since Steve learned Eddie likes men and Eddie learned Steve likes men, Steve’s nearly blurted it out high, drunk, and sober alike and that is definitely dangerous. Well, okay, maybe risky is a better word, but it’s all semantics anyways.
When they took the kids to the arcade the other day, he’d almost blurted it out at the skee-ball lane after watching Eddie help Max sink it right into the 50. When they sat around his pool the week before that, passing a joint back and forth as the stars twinkled above them, Steve’s brain had almost been cloudy enough to reach out and close the distance– to play with the curls that dipped into the crook of Eddie’s collarbone, or God, to hold his hand. When they sat around nearly a month ago, watching some terrible slasher movie Eddie chose called Return to Horror High, Steve’s dad’s whiskey was almost strong enough to let him invade Eddie’s personal space. Almost, again.
So many almost’s, and not nearly enough finally’s, he thinks to himself as he dries off, gets dressed, and trudges into the kitchen.
Maybe tonight could be a finally.

i love you prompts: 98 w/ romantic steddie? 😌
lou!! thank you for sending this in!! ooh this is a good one!!
98. "Take a deep breath"
It’s late when the credits finally start to roll onscreen.
Steve guesses it’s sometime close to midnight, or maybe a little after, but he’d taken his watch off earlier before he’d gotten elbow deep in dirty dish water, cleaning up after the mess they somehow managed to make whipping up a simple dinner of grilled cheese and tomato soup. It sits on the kitchen counter, all the way across the room, and the nearest clock in the Munson trailer hangs beside the phone, too far away for Steve to see from his spot on the couch.
He can’t exactly twist in his place to try and catch a better glimpse of it, or get up to fetch his watch either. Not while Eddie leans up against his side, arms crossed over his chest and neck bent awkwardly so his head can rest against Steve’s shoulder, fast asleep.
When they first put the movie on, the two of them had started off on opposite ends of the already pretty small couch, but as it progressed, they’d gradually shifted closer and closer — in the name of sharing popcorn easier, to whisper their movie commentary directly into each other’s ears rather than speak over the film, and, eventually, so it seems, so that Eddie could use Steve as a pillow.
Not that Steve minded or anything. He liked it, in fact — likes it. Likes having Eddie so close, likes feeling the warmth of his body pressing up against his own, likes the fact that Eddie is comfortable enough with him to let his guard down like this.
Eddie hasn’t been sleeping all that well as of late, so when his head tipped onto Steve’s shoulder a little over half an hour ago, Steve just slouched a little lower to ease the angle of his neck and reached for the remote to turn down the volume. It had been a little hard for him to hear it after that, but he hadn’t really paid it much attention after that point anyways.
Now, though, the movie is over, and it’s late enough that Steve’s verging on overstaying his welcome. He knows he should probably wake Eddie so he can let him know that he’s going and say his goodbyes and head out.
But Eddie just looks way too peaceful. Steve doesn’t want to wake him.
Instead, he decides that he can just leave a note. In case Eddie does wake up to find him gone. He’ll know nothing bad happened to Steve, just that he went home for the night and that they’ll see each other tomorrow — because chances are they will. They hardly went a day without spinning into each other’s orbits now.
Except, Steve doesn’t want to just leave Eddie on the couch either. He knows from personal experience that the Munson’s sofa is not exactly the most comfortable thing ever. Every time he falls asleep on it, he wakes up with a crick in his neck and an ache in his back. He doesn’t want that for Eddie.
His bedroom isn’t far, just down the hall, and Steve will feel a lot better if he gets Eddie to his bed before he leaves. So, he does his best to maneuver out from beneath Eddie, cradling his head as he removes it from his shoulder and lowers it to the cushion instead.
Steve takes a second to roll out his shoulders, then he slips one arm under Eddie’s back and the other behind his knees, which are curled to his side. As carefully as he can, he lifts Eddie from the couch.
Eddie stirs, but he doesn’t wake, thank god. He just smacks his mouth a little and buries his nose into the collar of Steve’s sweater, and Steve lets out the breath he didn’t even realize he was holding.
Eddie’s lighter than he looks, but still pretty heavy, and Steve doesn’t want to drop him, so he takes it slow as he follows the path towards Eddie’s door at the end of the hall. It’s, thankfully, already open, so all he has to do is kick out a foot to push it wide enough to fit through.
The blinds in Eddie’s room are still fucked up — broken enough that the slats droop down in a way that gives the morning sun the perfect opening to shine right in and wake him up before it’s time. Eddie complains about it constantly, but he hasn’t made any sort of attempt to fix them yet, and right now, Steveis grateful for that. The glow of the moon is bright enough to seep in through the gap, providing just enough gentle light that Steve can see where he’s going.
He makes it to the side of Eddie’s bed without issue, and delicately deposits Eddie onto his mattress. Again, Eddie shifts, rolling slightly onto his side, but he still doesn’t rouse.
The blankets are shoved to the end of Eddie’s bed, and Steve stifles a snort at that as he reaches for them and starts to pull them up and over Eddie’s body. He knows Eddie runs cold, so he takes a moment to tuck the corners in and add an extra blanket to the top so that he’s nice and cozy.
Then, unable to help himself, Steve brushes Eddie’s bangs to the side and leans down to leave a soft ghost of a kiss to his forehead.
He’s just starting to straighten up and pull his hand back when quick fingers dart out to curl around his wrist, trapping him there.
Steve freezes, eyes snapping back open to find Eddie, awake, blinking hazily back up at him.
“Steve?” Eddie asks, groggy, still somewhere halfway in between awake and asleep.
“Hey, yeah, it’s me,” Steve whispers. “You fell asleep, I just brought you to your room so you’d be comfortable,” he tells him.
Eddie smiles then, this sleepy, goopy sort of thing that makes something warm settle in Steve’s chest, and he tugs on Steve’s wrist. “C’mere,” he mumbles, and Steve thinks maybe he has something he wants to tell him.
So he leans in closer.
And closer.
And closer.
Eddie tips his chin up, and Steve thinks he’s going for his ear, so he can whisper his sleepsoft secret. Only, his mouth doesn’t go anywhere near Steve’s ear. Instead, it lands against his own in a—
In a kiss.
It’s chaste, tender, just the sweet press of lips against lips. It catches Steve off guard at first, but the surprise settles, and Steve is about to let himself melt into it.
Then the moment shatters.
Eddie jerks back, bolting upright as he scrambles far enough back in his bed that he hits the headboard. His eyes are wide open now, fully alert and not a single trace of sleepiness anywhere on his face as he stares at Steve. His hand, the one he’d had around Steve’s wrist just seconds ago, hovers over his own mouth, like he can’t quite believe what it has just done.
“Oh, oh, fuck,” Eddie chokes out. “Shit, shit, shit, I’m so— I didn’t mean to— fuck, you have to— please don’t—”
“Woah, hey, it’s… it’s alright, Eddie,” Steve says, holding his hands out in what he hopes is a placating gesture. He doesn’t come closer, doesn’t want to frighten Eddie further, but he wants Eddie to know that there’s no reason for him to be so scared. He’s not… he’s not mad. Or upset. Or anything that Eddie probably thinks he is right now. Not even close.
Eddie’s words start to fail him as his breathing begins to hitch, and Steve can see the rapidfire rise and fall of his chest. His eyes are on Steve, but he’s not looking at him. He’s looking through him, like he’s somewhere else right now. Like he’s spiraling into every single bad place his mind can take him right now.
Steve recognizes it for what it is — a panic attack.
“Eddie,” Steve tries, forgetting politeness as he moves to the edge of Eddie’s bed and kneels against the mattress. He reaches out to rest his hand on Eddie’s shoulder — to give him a point of contact, something to focus on. Something to ground him. It’s what usually helps Steve whenever he’s having a panic attack, finding an anchor, to bring him back down.
Eddie’s hand flies out to grasp at Steve’s wrist, and Steve lets him pull it from his shoulder so that he can curl his fingers around Steve’s palm instead. His grip is tight, nails biting into Steve’s skin, but Steve doesn’t care.
“You’re safe,” Steve reassures. “You’re safe and I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.”
Eddie nods, but Steve isn’t so sure his words have reached him. Not when he still looks so panicked, and his breathing is still coming out too fast.
“Hey,” Steve says softly, rubbing his thumb over the back of Eddie’s hand. “Take a deep breath,” he instructs.
Eddie’s eyes settle onto Steve’s face, still hazy but doing better at focusing. Steve smiles at him, nods encouragingly. “Come on, do it with me, deep breath in.”
Steve makes a show of inhaling again, holding up his fingers to count to three before he starts to let it all back out in an exhale. He goes through it twice before Eddie catches on and starts to mirror him.
They follow the pattern until finally Eddie’s breathing returns to normal and the panic seems to subside.
“Are you okay?” Steve asks, once Eddie’s shoulders slump and his head drops forward, his hair hanging like a curtain around his face. Steve hasn’t let go of Eddie’s hand yet, and he doesn’t plan to.
Eddie lets out a humorless laugh, but he doesn’t look up. “Depends,” he starts. “Are you going to… to fucking… hit me or shout at me or something?”
Steve’s face screws up, mouth tugging down into a hard frown. “What?” He asks. “Why would I do that? Because you had a panic attack?”
Eddie snorts. “No,” he replies, like he can’t believe that’s what Steve thinks this is about. He stays quiet for a second, two, three. Like he can’t quite bring himself to say it. “Because I— because I kissed you,” he finally breathes.
“Oh,” Steve says softly. He watches Eddie for a moment, doesn’t like that he can’t see his face. He wants to see his face. So, with careful fingers, he reaches out to brush Eddie’s hair back, to tuck it behind his ear.
Eddie’s breath catches as he does, and his gaze flickers up to Steve’s, briefly, before fixing firmly on his lap again.
“Eddie,” Steve starts, “I’m not mad that you kissed me.”
It takes a second for his words to sink in.
When they do, Eddie’s head snaps up. His eyes land on Steve’s, wide and surprised and searching. “You’re not?”
Steve shakes his head. Lets a little smile grace his lips. “Nope,” he confirms. “Not one single bit.”
And, well, in for a penny, in for a pound, right? He shuffles a little closer on his knees, presses further into Eddie’s space. “In fact…” he trails off. Does a little searching of his own. “I wouldn’t mind if you did it again,” Steve finishes after he’s sure that Eddie isn’t going to push him away.
Eddie’s eyebrows lift this time, the pull together. Steve wants to smooth out the little wrinkle that forms between them.
“Are you… you’re serious?” Eddie asks.
“Serious as a heart attack,” Steve replies.
The corner of Eddie’s mouth twitches, then a smile breaks out across his face. “Holy shit, you’re serious,” he says, followed by a breathless little laugh.
Steve can’t help but laugh too, and he nods and starts to tug at Eddie’s hand to pull him in this time. “Yeah,” he says. “Now that that’s been established, you think I could get another one?”
Eddie looks at him like he’s won the lottery. “Jesus christ, yes, yes please,” he says, and the hand not caught in Steve’s comes up to bunch into the front of his sweater as he meets him halfway.
It’s a little offcentered, a little overeager on both of their parts, but it’s perfect.
When they break apart, Eddie presses his forehead against Steves. “Were you leaving?” He asks.
“I was,” Steve answers. “I don’t want to now,” he admits.
Eddie chuckles and lets go of Steve only just long enough to peel back the covers Steve had so lovingly tucked around him not too long ago.
“So stay,” Eddie says.
With his welcome so graciously extended like that, who is Steve to say no?
So he stays.
100 ways to say i love you prompts

steve has always been a morning person. he likes waking up and hearing the birds waking up alongside him, the first hints of daylight filtering through his blinds as he stretches in his bed. he's warm, he's cozy, he's content.
the first thing he does after waking up is go downstairs to make a cup of coffee with a splash of milk and a bagel slathered in cream cheese. the second thing he does is take his breakfast outside to the back porch, wiping off dew from his favorite chair, taking in deep breaths of fresh morning air. the third thing he does is tell the sun about eddie munson.
he thinks they're similar, eddie and the sun. bright and warm, full of an uncontainable energy that could somehow be too much for people. the sun's a star and so is eddie. the sun is too much to look at unfiltered and so is eddie. steve will find himself drawn to him like a vine growing under the suns rays in the long summer months, twisting and turning to reach him faster.
it's impossible to look at eddie and not smile, preening under the warmth that he expels, the blanketing comfort that he gives away willingly. days without eddie and his sunshine are few and far between which makes the days eddie's sun doesn't shine feel like winter, the sun rising and setting too close together. he's happiness in a bottle, he's where to turn if you're trying to find your way back home, he's proof that steve's alive.
eddie, on the other hand, has always been a night owl. he likes the pinks and orange that dust the sky as the sun sets, the way the stars peek out of a mystical sky, the frogs and crickets and cicades waking up along with them. he's transfixed, he's calm, he's content.
night means that eddie can crawl up to the trailer roof with a blanket, a few pbrs and a pack of camels. he has wayne yelling at him to be safe as he gets in his truck to head to work for the night shift. he'll make a trip back down to lug up his boombox that's loaded with a mixtape for a certain ex-king before settling in and making himself all nice and comfy. then he'll tell the moon about steve harrington.
he thinks they're similar, steve and the moon. a constant in the night sky and a constant in their little crew, a rock that keeps them all together but gets overlooked by the bright and shiny stars around him. he has phases but he's there, ever changing as he may be. steve is someone that people yearn to travel to, something seemingly out of reach, but once you've landed, you've made your mark. the space race may have well as been about steve harrington because who wouldn't want to have the honor to get to him first?
steve is the moon how he draws eddie to him, controlling the tides of his heart to have him coming back to him every time. he's the bright light in an inky blue night sky that gives him a path through the darkness. eddie charts his path across the sky as diligently as he tracks him on earth, following behind steve in a moondust trail to go wherever he'll allow him.
the two spend dawn and dusk together, wrapped up around each other as the sun and moon tell tales about them to one another. something about a boy who can look at the sun and not be blinded and a boy who will chase the moon anywhere.

Everybody thinks Steve is a morning person but he really isn’t. It’s just that when they see him in the morning…the truth is he has been up for hours. He actually never went to sleep. With school no longer confiding him he can just sleep in the middle of the day (when he’s not working) like the night owl he is. When he works opening shifts? He’s the biggest bitch on the planet. When he actually does go to bed at a normal hour and wakes up with the sun? Well everyone just thinks he’s being a dick because he’s Steve Harrington, he’s up earlier than any of us he must just be in a bad mood. Not even Robin has picked up on the why in regards to his mood pattern.
It isn’t until Steve becomes friends with Eddie Munson after the Upside Down that someone figures out. Eddie finds Steve doing a jog around Loch Nora at 2 am when he goes for a drive because he can’t sleep. He almost crashes the car seeing Steve shirtless.
Steve is embarrassed at first, feeling like he did something wrong being up so late. Eddie doesn’t mind it though, takes the opportunity to spend more time with Steve. It’s nice that Eddie gets to see a side of Steve no one else does. And Steve learns he doesn’t mind the company of Eddie Munson.
Steve gets a late night buddy after all.

I haven't caught up on all of your writing, so I'm not sure if you've already done your own take on this:
Prompt: Eddie wakes up in the hospital (after the demo-bats of course) really, really loopy on painkillers and the first person he sees is Steve...
This was exactly the fluff fest I needed to break up all the angst I've been in the middle of :') Thank you!!
He really just had one thing to say to all the soccer moms and televangelists who always said people like Eddie were going to hell–
Suck it.
Eddie absolutely was not in hell, thank you very much. Sure, for some reason his sides hurt like a bitch occasionally. And he couldn’t really talk super well since there was what seemed like an entire roll of tape and gauze on the side of his face. And maybe he couldn’t move his left leg around much, but who cares about those things?
In the grand scheme of things, he was living a fucking dream.
Heaven, if you ask him. Take that, Pastor Davies, you wrinkled prick.
Honestly, he’d kind of always thought stereotypical heaven was overrated. With the way the stuffy religious folk always talked about it, it seemed like a total drag. Just prayer and eternal…boringness.
This heaven was way better.
It was mostly just floaty. Things blurred. Time moved strangely. Minutes stretched out forever, and yet he would blink sometimes and all of a sudden the morning sun in the window would be gone. The lamp beside his bed would be on, instead. He loved those times because usually a voice accompanied it, saying words that Eddie knew he recognized, but just couldn’t give enough effort to understand. It was nice, though.
The voice sounded kind. It stumbled over words sometimes, like maybe it was reading off of something aloud, but it was familiar and the cadence lulled Eddie back into those peaceful, floaty times where he didn’t have to think about anything at all.
Whenever he was hungry, food was just there. Eddie could have sworn he’d thought about pudding once and then bam pudding was in front of him. Like magic. Several times he’d come to consciousness with a mouth drier than a motherfucker, and there were always hands that reached over to supply him sips of water.
The hands were so nice. Big. Gentle. He’d felt them combing through his hair before, he’d thought.
Best of all, though? The angel.
God, his angel.
Prettiest goddamn face he’d ever seen. At first the angel looked sad, red-rimmed eyes and a deep set frown, and that had simply not been okay. No way. A fuckin’ masterpiece of a face like that being upset was criminal. Just…not allowed. Eddie had said as much, mumbled and probably slurred to hell, but it made those pretty lips lift at the corners a bit.
He’d made it his mission, then, to make the literal celestial being in front of him smile every time he could focus his brain power enough to make words.
His most recent swim up to consciousness had him coming to with fingers in his hair and a light pressure felt to the immobilized side of his face. His eyes met with his angel’s and he couldn’t help his dopey smile. Angel’s lips moved, that kind voice breaking through the haze.
“...to wake you. Sorry, your bandage was peeling back. It looked uncomfortable,” Eddie’s pretty angel smiled down at him, seeming slightly nervous all of a sudden. Like he’d been caught doing something he shouldn’t have.
It took him a try or two to push his own voice out, rough from disuse.
“Don’ say sorry, ‘s fine. You c’n touch me anytime, angel.” Eddie giggled when the angel’s cheeks flushed an adorable pink and his hands fluttered around like he didn’t know where to put them.
“Oh, come on, man, don’t–hey, stop that. Quit grinning so wide, you’ll pop your stitches!”
Eddie batted at the hand that came up to grab the non-patchwork side of his face, pushing at his lips like if the angel could physically hold it down he could stop the smile from growing any larger. Silly angel. Eddie took the opportunity to seize one of those hands in his. He shook it around loosely, celebrating. Hah! Caught him.
It gave Eddie the chance to get a closer look at his fingers. Nice fingers, long. Eddie would smack a kiss on every one of them if he could. (There’s a possibility he may have said that part out loud, if the choked sound from the angel was any judge.)
No ring on the hand though. His angel wasn’t married. Could angels even get married? Was it against the rules in heaven or something?
Eddie leveled a very serious look to the other man, clutching the captured hand to his chest fiercely. Or, as fiercely as he was capable, seeing as the soft, floaty feeling was starting to take over again.
“I would marry you a’nyway. Okay? Don’t care what the rules are.”
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Steve spent the last several nights getting well acquainted with the scratchy vinyl of his hospital chair and the fourth floor’s only vending machine. There were only so many power naps and snickers bars a man could take.
His back ached from slumping over onto the hospital bed to accommodate Eddie’s hold on him. It was hard to care about that, though, when the hand clutched in his twitched slightly in sleep before tightening back again. He’d been able to relax the older boy back into rest earlier, smiley and malleable.
Eddie only agreed to it after insisting Steve didn’t “fly away without him” whatever that meant.
Those crazy strong drugs the doctors had pumped him with were doing the work to keep him comfortable, despite making him say things he never would have had he been more aware.
Steve didn’t have the heart to pull away. He should. He should put some space between them. He shouldn’t take anything Eddie says or does to heart at all–he’s high as hell on painkillers. That would make any guy a little loopy. Make him say things he doesn’t mean.
Eddie adjusted in his sleep, smiling a bit, body angled towards Steve. His hand was warm, and if Steve moved his fingers up just a bit to his wrist, he could feel the steady thump there.
In the quiet of the sterile hospital room, Steve thought he maybe could indulge just a bit. No harm in the comfort of two people, just happy to be alive.
Robin let herself into the room quietly, a paper coffee cup in one hand that Steve knew would be made perfectly to how he liked it.
It took her barely a beat, taking in the two boys curled in towards each other.
“So, how many marriage proposals were there today?”
